The Colonel sold KFC in the mid 60's I believe, but was still allowed to come into restaurants to test food and such things. In the mid 70's or so was when everything started changing. He would go into KFC's, taste the chicken, and toss whole trays of it onto the floor while chewing out the management it was so bad. He described it as nothing more than wallpaper paste. He sadly passed in 1980, after being forced to watch his dream get corrpted and ruined by corporate slimeballs.

He regretted selling the company until his final days.

I think the appeal to people is mainly that you don't have to be a big hulking guy to play it like handegg or 6'3 like apehoop, just athletic, so it means a broader range of kids are able to play it at an organized level or for HS teams. Other than y'all or ain't it depends on the state. There are tons of regional colloquialisms, for instance I have no idea what this "knee high to a grasshopper" business you're talking about is. Also little quirks like saying "I reckon" instead of "I think" and stuff like that. Appalachia has some different words for stuff too, like a mantelpiece for a fireplace is a "fireboard".

Also earlier ITT somebody posted something about how in a certain part of Mississippi "to porch" is the act of going out in sitting on the porch ("let's go outside and porch")
