Don't know if this is a good place to post this, but I'm thinking about moving to Japan.

Probably not permanently, but I want to get out there and travel while I'm still young (23). I am looking into a program to learn Japanese for a semester in Japan, and after that I don't really know what I would do from there.

My question is, is Japan worth living in for a US citizen? I have lived in the same state, the same part of the state really, my entire life and want to leave so I can come back with a new perspective. I hear mixed results from people; studies and numbers say it's depressing, but real people anecdotally claim it's great.

What do you anon think? Memes and anime aside, is Japan a depressing corporate hell hole, a wonderful paradise, or somewhere in between?

I don't understand who you're talking about or who the subjects of these studies were. If they are saying that many Japanese people commit suicide or are unhappy, whether or not that is true, it does not provide a good basis upon which to assess how much you will enjoy living in the country.
