How do I stop worrying about my JLPT results? I'm an overly sensitive faggot who hates failing and just the thought that I might have made enough stupid mistakes to make me fail makes my stomach churn. I keep questoning whether I coloured the answers properly and if I coloured some answers on the wrong line etc. I can't calm down. I know I didn't have any major problems in any of the sections, but the possibility of failure is still there.

I don't think it makes sense to force yourself to love 2D over 3D. I'm sure you've seen this coming. The newly created /djt/ on /jp/, which also claims to be part of the /djt/ lineage, is currently the centre of attention and catching a lot of flak.
What I don't understand is, there's two of you. The /djt/ over there claims you suck. Some of them say you suck less than /jp/djt. There also have been anecdotes regarding some kind of schism between you two. There's an upheaval and lots of people are swept away by the meido.
Please do not misunderstand. I'm not here to cause trouble; I just want to understand the reason for these things happening.
There's a chance I'm making a fool out of myself trying to resolve this, and given the environment, I'd say that chance is quite high. So I'd like to ask you explicitly to answer me in earnest.

I think two DJT threads is fine. I don't get why people are pushing for one or the other when there are clearly people who are now either associating with /int/ or associating with /a/+/jp/.

Be honest, a lot of you guys are enjoying being able to blog and shitpost here, am I not right? Had this problem. I've tried learning several times and each time I burn out on vocab because I'm trying to learn meaningless strings of phonics that I can't use. Come back after a while and it just seems a bit easier this time. Also focusing on grammar this time and letting myself learn vocab more naturally at a slower pace. It's simple. All the verbs you used there are intransitive. Verbs are divided into two types: transitive and intransitive. The former are ones that do something to something, thus can take を to indicate the object. Maybe it's easier to think of them as being passive. If you listen to something, you're not doing something to what you're listening to, you're just passively taking in the sound waves.

An example of the same thing in English could be "rise" vs "raise". You can't "rise a price", but you can "raise a price". Something I failed to add: Japanese always (perhaps with some exceptions, but I can't think of any) makes that distinction.

Also, some useful stuff:
- If it ends with す, it's transitive. (治す, 返す, 壊す)
- They often come in pairs. (整う - 整える, 変わる - 変える)

An example of a pair used to hopefully make it easier to understand:
値段が変わる - The price will change.
値段を変える - [subject] will change the price.

In the first one, 値段 has been made the subject by means of が. There is no object because 変わる doesn't take one in the first place.

In the second one, 値段 is the object by means of を. The subject is unknown.

Your sentence is also technically correct. なぜ is an adverb and as long as it's before the verb, it's fine. However, it can sound really off when not placed where you'd expect it to. Now, where and why you should place and adverb somewhere to make it sound natural is something I honestly have no idea, but instead is something you just get by exposure. Uh, yeah, you're right. I messed up there. I also realized later my example about the listening is pretty bad as well, since you could say the same thing about seeing, and that's transitive in both languages.

I'm not sure what goes on with [someone]に聞く, since it's just a pattern I've learned and never thought much about it, but yeah, when 聞く is used to listen (and not to ask), you use を just like any other transitive verb.

Do you guys recommend doing any accompanying study with anki?

I just downloaded Core6K but I'm somewhat skeptical that flashcards (and grammar study) alone will let me learn to read a language.
Should I not be writing new terms out 10 times on a piece of paper, or trying to use it in a sentence, or something?

I'm pretty autistic, my greatest motivation is total number of kanjis learned. My motivation comes from knowing by the time I finish Core10k, I will have almost all Joyo kanji under my belt.

I never felt comfortable reading when I didn't know kanji, even though I could look stuff up. Now I can dabble into it and make a blurred meaning out of things, and that gives me some actual satisfaction.

Bear in mind I don't 100% know each word I've studied in Core - I just know their general meaning.
I've learned about 20 different words for "meeting", another 20 for "angry", lots for "rules", etc.

But knowing the approximate idea of a word in English is enough that when I encounter the word in a written text, I can deduce its exact nuance and, by keeping those encounters coming, I will better adapt to what words use in which situations.

No use getting a word rock-solid and then find out only old people use it in ceremonies. Especially since you seem busy with real life - it takes me around 1 hour a day to do my reps because I don't linger too much on each word. I do write all of them on paper, though, which makes a 30~40 minute review last 60.

Honestly, that would probably be my approach for Mandarin.
But Japanese has so many deviant readings and meanings I felt like studying vocabulary was a better approach to it.

My mining deck at the end of Core10k will be focused on finishing the joyo list, though. Not really going for frequency there, more likely to fish a bunch of obscure words from a dictionary.

I'm just saying that if you're taking so much time studying words without reading then you might as well learn how to write. It just takes a few months at best and will help your retention and understanding of Kanji. It's never been a question of doing one or the other, it was about doing both.

Though you might be too deep into it by now anyway, so there's no point starting anymore probably. All that's left for you is to read. Myself I waited too long to read because autism and it's only after pushing and getting myself comfortable to read that I realized how much time I had probably wasted by putting off reading for so long. If I could redo everything from scratch I'd make myself read from day one, even if it'd just be one page of manga a day, I would read, read and read. Also worth mentioning how I ended up regretting doing core10k and how little it helped compared to my mining deck.

You are procrastinating because you are a coward, thinking you need to get "everything right before taking the jump", thing is you'll never get anything done with that mentality. Read.

Kanji aren't really as complicated as people make them out to be.
Sure, there are kanji with a shit ton of readings, but what are they? They're shit like 生 or 上 or 下. These are not hard to remember. They appear a hundred times in any given work.

Anyway, aside from that Anki is probably the absolute worst way to learn vocab. It's nice for memorizing kanji, but you simply cannot load a word into Anki. A word is ten times the amount of information something like Core integrates. What you're doing is memorizing the reading and some loose definition that will maybe be enough 50% of the time. Knowing the kanji in a word well will actually give you both the reading and often a more accurate definition than what you find on Core cards.
If you had spent twelve months studying kanji and reading in your free time instead there's a good chance you would have been better off than I am now, since I only ever spent half that time at most on my kanji deck before dropping it. But without any exposure you're pretty much an invalid.

Care to elaborate? I do write out kanji and I know a bunch of radicals.

I still mix up a lot of similar kanji, and writing from memory is pretty tough, but when I see one I have no problems copying it or pinpointing radicals.

I don't think doing RTK would have helped with the writing part, and I'm triggered by mnemonic studying.

That's actually my approach to everything in life. That's why I have never excelled at anything, but never failed either. Believe me - doing Anki every day in this chaotic, bruteforce way is a huge break from my clear-cut rule-oriented little world. And, as I've already stated, I'm doing some reading these last weeks.

As I said above, getting a premade deck and just gobbling it up made me break the superficial tension of learning that always hindered me back.

I learn French in parallel to Japanese and that's a language where I feel really at ease to just dive and soak myself into a pool of unknown words, structures and whatever. But it simply doesn't work for me with Japango.

What I'm trying to convey is pretty straightforward : you said you've spent more than a year doing only anki, from there it's easy to understand why one would tell you "you could've added learning how to write in there". Kanji aren't just random symbols, they are formed the way they are for a reason.

But if you don't have problems and have learned radicals then it's fine I suppose.

From someone who've done and tried pretty much all the learning methods out there I can assert that RTK is objectively the best way to learn how to write Kanji. If you don't like mnemonics to the point where it really makes you feel uncomfortable then perhaps not for you though.

I must have missed that. Keep it up then. I recommend setting yourself a schedule (although you probably have one considering how you described yourself) and forcing yourself to read a certain amount of Japanese materials every day (i.e. x chapters; x volumes; ...).

Cards from premade decks aren't perfect by far, the closest you can get using English are definitions from rikaisama because they entail more than one or two definitions per word - and to have access to this you need to mine, and to mine you need to read.

That too will be a sad realization you'll need to accept in the near future.
