Kind of figured this. Me and a friend are trying to write a story and Mexican military launching a coup against the Federal government is a sub-plot after a very blatant rigged presidential election puts a universally hated candidate in office. The US attempts to influence the military leadership, and ends up fucking things up and splintering the group starting a bunch of infighting between the army and navy.

It's pretty much just tourism and mid sized towns based around low level manufacturing there. The far west of the Yucatan peninsula has oil but that's actually the dumber area apparently.
