Designated shitting streets is actually a very clever idea. When you have a population of over 1 billion people, setting up sewage systems can be very expensive and takes a lot of effort to maintain. With designated shitting streets, they're able to achieve the same end result whilst severely reducing the amount they need to spend. The only downside is that the street smells like poo, but if everyone knows which streets are designated shitting streets they can simply plan their route and avoid them.
