Sweden has pretty much white washed its ancient finnish history, there is archeological evidence of ancient tomb stones and saunas in Stockholm(or should I say Tukholma) yet the swedish government claims it was founded first in the 13th century by some guy named Birger Jarl(which is obviously a fake name).

Most swedes are aware of their finnish heritage but we had such an inferiority complex that we instead made up stereotypes that finns are knife-wielding drunks.

I know you're joking but...it's closer to truth than false. Look up "Mälaren axes". Finno-Ugric axes were made in Stockholm before Swedes came there. I think it was just a backward province of the Finnic empire though no wonder we didn't bother defending it.
