In my experience, the main trait the Spanish have (and the Portuguese too, for that matter), is that they are extremely materialistic and envious people.
That doesn't mean that everyone from there is like that, but I would say the majority of them are.
I don't know exactly why this happens but it's true.
For the Spanish and Portuguese seeing other people have success is a terrible thing, they would rather see everyone fail.
Also, they value material things way more than people itself.
I guess it may have something to do with hardships experienced in the past by both of this countries.
