No I haven't seen it, I didn't know it existed but I'll probably dl it soon now
The pic I posted is from the South West but one of my grand mother used to have a house in Normandie and I went there often as kid, is pretty rural and beautiful, nothing impressive but just lovely
>>
>>53506684
the guy who made it is the same as the one who made Taken, Luc Besson

God France just looks so great. I remember from watching The French Connection 2 when I was young that I thought it just looked like such a great place to live. You guys get a lot of shit in the US at least for seeming arrogant but to me you have the right to act like that
>>
>>53506740
>Luc Besson
Oh yes him I know, he's pretty famous in France and abroad for several years now

I agree with you. Well the "we have the right to brag" thing is up to debate, but seriously I love this country for real, in pretty much every aspect
Don't feel bad tho the USA is has another kind of greatness, its sheer size and majestuous landscapes is something. No medieval towns, typical castles, cheap baguettes but I dream of doing something like the Appalachian Trail or the Pacific Crest Trail someday

I'm lucky to be in a rather wealthy family here (my dad is a lawyer and mom is a college professor) so my life has been pretty good but everything here is just so modern

I think it might partially be a grass is greener on the other side but my parents have never taken me on a vacation with them outside of the US (they go to Europe all the time) so I have no real way of knowing yet

my dad wants to retire to France or Greece so maybe then I will get to see it as I have always wanted to

>I think it might partially be a grass is greener on the other side

Probably, but partially, if you like old things and History and its remnants I understand why you'd prefer Europe. So you've never been to France or not to Europe at all ? Maybe you could travel on your own ?
>>
>>53507241
That's the plan in the near future.

It's difficult though because just to fly it'll be around $1300, not to mention hotels and the like and I'm just a college student (my parents wouldn't help pay for it at all)
>>
>>53507335
>It's difficult though because just to fly it'll be around $1300

Do you live on the west coast ? I friend of mine lives in Québec and pays about 400 euros for his plane from Paris to Montréal
Other than that there are solutions to be smart and spend little money once in France. It depends on the kind of travel you want to make, from the expensive tour operator to just you and a sleeping bag walking the country
>>
>>53507392
Yes I live in Portland

I've looked into the backpack option but I'd be concerned since I don't speak French and I've heard some things about low English speaking rates in rural France

I think summer 2017 I will go, I have an internship this summer that pays around $40k for the whole summer which should be good to cover an extended stay

Take care man, I gotta go to a meeting
>>
>>53507491
>I've heard some things about low English speaking rates in rural France

Kek I can't deny this one
Maybe angry Parisians would refuse to speak English but our countryside dwellers actually don't speak it most of the time

> that pays around $40k for the whole summer
Holy shit lad yeah that should be enough drop by when you want and bring all the cash
Well have a good work

People living here are born in Alsace-Lorraine and not Elsaß-Lothringen so despite all that the Germans have left they feel French from the start.
I guess they are quiet nationalist because they're region has a strong identity, it's the same in Corsica and Brittany (well Brittany is full of jwn leftists anti nationalist tho), it's more about their region than about "true" French nationalism

But seriously only the people over 40 speak the german dialects (Alsatian and Lorraine Franconian).I can understand it but I don't speak it. Everybody speaks french, with a terrible accent.

I was there one day last summer with some mates from Karlsruhe. We ate at a nice restaurant and the food was delicious. When we asked to pay a split tab the garcon said, "This isn't Germany". One day across the Rhein and all of my stereotypes of the French were confirmed. Like going to the United States everyone is morbidly obese with a handgun.

Most of them are ethnically German and speak a fair amount of it. I only spoke in German while I was there. The city I was in, Straßburg, has a German name.

The Dutch controlled the harbor for less than a decade before the Anglos and had no significant Dutch population in the area.

>>53518530
It was German all the way until the 17th century. The name is German and the city itself looks German.

We have a scholar in the thread.
Btw what does this has to do with alsacians not liking germans so much?
