I love going to UTS for this very reason.
Quick, post good-looking brutalist architecture
>>53463833
Looks kinda comfy. In a 2003 Windows XP George Bush + ambience of Hitman Blood Money kind of way. Know what I mean?
brutalism was much better than shitty "high modernist" architecture
if you hate """brutalism""" you probably hate "high modernist" shit
>>53463692
It only looks good when there is no other structures in the area
and the structure is really big
it looks dumb every other places
>>53463776
That's at my university. I sit in the basement and read art history while ditching classes.
Comfy/10
Forget what this building is but I'm pretty sure it's a college in the US.

Looks like an imperial base from Star Wars. Nice.

That sounds perfectly accurate honestly. I can't explain why.

BRUTALIST YOU ARE WORST SCUM. YOU SMELL OF CONCRETE, YOU SMELL OF CORTEN STEEL.
REMOVE BRUTALISM FROM PREMISES.
Interesting thread

>yfw you have acrophobia (height fear?) and probably cannot live in a room hanging in the air
life sucks man
You mix "brutalism", "constructivism" and "suprematism".
Post bank of Georgia, it's great.

Would you recommend UTS?
Whenever I look at a decent brutalist building (and that is rare in itself) I'm always disappointed because it would look exceptionally better in most other architectural styles.

Not quite sure, i guess there is some overlap. But i think constructivism is more a philosophical movement within art, while brutalism is more a style.

I disagree. Brutalism is efficiency, and a statement. Dont waste time on small decorations, but on form, if the decoration is the form, that is beautiful.
It is austere, cold, and stoic, when you look at it by itself, but the moment you put a crowd of people in it, the place springs to life and looks like a home.
Its no more depressing or institutional than a modern home.

>>53474503

>Its no more depressing or institutional than a modern home.
This, it's pretty much the same as modern architecture.
Only difference is that modern architecture uses more glass and different materials instead of just concrete.

>>53474466
I agree.
Just like how prison is beautiful
In prison, everything is left as necessary.
The food is slop.
There are no unnecessary electronics.
Just bare walls.
No flowers or decoration.
If you are lucky, you shit in the same room that you sleep in.
No curtains, perhaps not even a window.
You sleep on a hard bed.
No paintings.
THIS is real beauty. Anyone who isn't a pleb realises it.
I live in a completely bare flat. Just concrete. Unadorned concrete. No decorations whatsoever. I am sure you are the same as me, given our love for brutalism.
Yuck!
Look at all the decoration!
Such plebs.
If everyone had 140 IQ like me, brutalism would be all that there is. Unfortunately most plebs are too dumb to realise that beautiful things are not beautiful.

Do you have autism mate?
>tfw you look down a street and it is completely devoid of superior brutalist buildings
Disgusting.
When I go to Bavaria, do I want to see timber frame steep-roof architecture? No! I want a mass of unending, dark gray concrete.
WHen I visit Hungary, do I want Hungarian art nouveau? No, I want a mass of undecorated concrete.
When I visit Belgium, do I want Flemish baroque? No, I want a mass of mouldy concrete.
>>53474979

That traditionalist butthurt holy shit.
I think brutalism looks cool, would be boring visiting a city and everything is done in the same style.
>>53475293
Yes I totally agree.
What this row of buildings needs is a big plain concrete block. That'd make it so much prettier.
Build a gurdwara there, too, and a Chicago-style skyscraper, because, you know, that'd make it more exciting.
KILL IT.
>>53475073
If it's autism it's absolutely a positive autism tbH. Brutalist architecture should be illegal

What you said, but unironically. Look at those copy-pasted McHouses, fucking shit tier. At least when brutalist structures repeat the same pattern over and over again it's because it works.

Why don't they paint the concrete ? I think the shapes etc are great but that grey is depressing, plus all those sort of mould line things are ugly. I think white would look good.
>>53484977
>>53484930
A downgrade IMO. The old one had way more character. The now one is bland like all shit.
Anyway, a very good thread.
>>53485441
It would make them untrue with their form or whatever. It's called brutalism because it'd brutally true or whatever.
>>53463692
I love this library :)
