This is one if the best I've seen, but while it takes into account how diverse and somewhat unique CA is or the 4 corners area, it fails to realize how different CT and Ohio are or even NYC and upstate NY, or Northern New England (ME, NH, VT) and MA, RU, and CT.

Good rule of thumb, the East is much older and even more mixed up than the west.

tried land-locking as little as possible, the Southwest still ended up landlocked, all the irrelevant states in Louisiana would be nightmare levels of impoverished/wartorn if they became independent landlocked states. Besides, I figure giving Louisiana the states from the purchase would still barely put it onpar with Texas.
Idaho is there because it wasn't part of the Louisiana purchase, the Southwest (besides maybe Utah) wouldn't want it, and independent it would be on-par with Zambia. It would also help balance out Cascadia's politics past the "Coast wins every election" dynamic.

What we'd do depends on what our neighbords did, could try to join PA or Appalachia at large, or maybe going with New England or even independent could work if we could get arrangements to use the St. Lawrence freely.
