No. You only get housing money no questions asked (406e/month, unless you live in some tiny shithole village not even enough for a 1 room apartment), the unemployment benefits (around 500? 600? per month) require you to actively apply for jobs and to prove it (sometimes even that is not enough, I for one would only get those benefits if I actually went to work without pay for some company), and sometimes take part in rehabilitation courses.

not true, the guy from the job centre gives you a list with companys to apply at and they call in to check if you did. usually it's enough to make some subtle Typos in the appliance to fuck it up tho.
They also love to put people into useless courses. a m8 of mine was sent into a crochet course for a week. when he complained the trainer told him that they will cut his dole for a month if he leaves

Retraining after the age of 40 is near impossible so the only chance of ever switching professions is by going self employed which carries a higher risk, and if you're unsuccessful it's extremely hard to return.
