Idk about Netflix, but with Spotify the company actual went to music torrenters with a few lifetimes of music and asked "What *don't* you have? What would you be willing to pay for?"

And they found that while pirates had a fuckton of music, they couldn't bring it all with them every day. Even if you take the time to switch the music on your phone/ iPod everyday (a pain in the ass btw) you're still only bringing a small fraction of it with you at any given time.

Im a 27 year old comp sci grad with 10 TB of pirated shit. That's ~5 TB of HD movies/ TV shows, 2 TB of FLAC music, and 3 GB of software, ebooks, manuals and porn on 5 internal drives with backup drives for RAID 0. I know how to pirate, but I still pay for netflix because I can literally watch it anywhere.

There is literally no way for me to take a that shit with me for less than $10 a month. I watch movies and TV in HD when I'm at home, but if I'm not at my desktop I use netflix. I don't use spotify because it isn't good enough for my patrician ears
