Nothing strange about Poland having composers (and very good ones in fact). Slavs, in contrast to the /int/ meme, actually have a very sensitive, well-developed talent for artistic expression. They made great music, literature and later cinema.

The countries with a catholic background, which include the Romance countries, are also well developed in this sense, but when it comes to classical music, the countries with a protestant background (but not Germany, at least Southern Germany) lack in this manner. England too, next to Händel, an imported German, and Britten there aren't many great composers compared to the size of their Empire back then.

In classical music, the most noteworthy countries/peoples delivering the goods are: Italy, Germany, Austria and Russia followed by France, Hungary,Poland and the Czechs.
