Plenty of DNA studies have been conducted on Brazil, and having 25% of non-euro DNA classifies people as pardo, not white.

Just as an example of how big european influence is here, and how DNA alone is a bad measure, even our blacks have on average 30% european DNA. The black guy in my pic has 67,1% european DNA, for example.

Colonization in Brazil took place in the late 16th century and since the late 18th immigration took over.

Since Brazil never had apartheid laws or something like that, having the biggest African population of the Americas, people just started mixing early on.

Through the years those who managed to breed with whites eventually whitened their genes and phenotype.

Hopefully I can convey this idea in a suitable way:
Slavs, jews, light skinned arabs, southern italians, maybe even if the person has one of the parents being black, are considered white. The cause for that is because we separate and treat others based on a simple white/mixed/black/native/asian five-way classification. What the population here might consider white, you might not.
Also, the blacks here have already mixed with mulattos and caucasians, so even if you have a black parent, you might not necessarily be black, also, recent African diaspora is easy to pick apart bevause of their more pronounced racial traits, while our blacks had time to mix their genomes up.
