Sorry, I'm on mobile so I can't see very well but:
The nose and the mouth seems drawn on her face, don't know if it's because it's unfinished, but the "tip of the nose" seems too low, also try not to draw the construction lines but only shade the nose.
Same thing for the man heads, the nose seems flat and go "straight down" on the face.
Also the left arms seems of different lenght, but I might be wrong.
One last thing, next time try to enhance contrast if you can.

Face proportions are located at the right places, but they look flat.

Imagine the mouth to wrap around like on a cylinder, there's supposed to be a bit of foreshortening on the mouth, it has to be wider on the angle facing you and shorter on the angle going away.

And the eyeball is a sphere that overlaps part of the face and where the eyelids wrap around, your eyes are flat. I can't tell the exact angle of your head, but the left eye (her right eye) might actually overlap the skin behind it or part of the eyelid would do so.

The nose is very flat, the nostrils have skin around them.

The fear of doing something wrong holds you back. You can only get better if you try something new and that means the risk of failing horribly. Otherwise you only reinforce your existing strengths and never develop new strengths and worse you reinforce you weaknesses.

Whatever you feel most uncomfortable drawing is the thing you have to draw the most.

You can adjust global pressure strength on both krita and wacom. My interface is in german but you should be able to find it. When adjusting individual brushes make sure to overwrite the preexisting setting after changing them. And make certain to not accidentally overwrite the icon for the pen which can happen very easily in Krita when changing brushes. But I would rather temper with the global pressure settings, Kritas brushes are very, very good just as they are.

The fact is that I don't feel uncomfortable about drawing hair or etc, but I do feel uncomfortable about drawing faces and heads from any complex angle such as 3/4, or 7/8, or... well, you get the drill; and that's why I'm practicing them.

Thoughts on my recent drawing?
>>
>>2888036
>The fact is that I don't feel uncomfortable about drawing hair

Weird, considering it looks absolutely horrible. Making it very detailed with lots of fine brush strokes does not make it good, only detailed. These two are different.

>>2888036
>Muuuuch more. And for that reason I refrain to do it until I grasp the facial features.

Good. Don't waste time on unnecessary details. But 3d eyes and nose are not unnecessary details, they are the most important aspect of the human face and should consume most of your time. They should also be the most detailed, hair should be very broad and instead of indicating single strains of hair it's more important to indicate proper lightning and shape which your hair entirely lacked.

>>2888036
>Since nobody has said anything even about the left Myon's face (which seems retarded to me, honestly)

They possibly thought that was a sketch, not a finished image that deserves to be painted. Just a template for the actual drawing.

And to get good at drawing is not to do the *exact* same thing over and over again and repeating the same mistakes again and again, but to get a 3d grasp of what it is you draw. Otherwise you are just mastering symbol drawing from a different angle.

Is that all you ever want to draw? A head from a ~3/4 view?
>>
>>2888045

do you also have over 300 confirmed commissions and are the top artist of wizards of the coast, and furthermore you know more than 500 ways to shade a head and that is with just a pencil?
>>
>>2888053
>>2888036
>Is that all you ever want to draw? A head from a ~3/4 view?

To add on that, you might think that mastering the 3/4 view and then doing other angles would be a good approach, but it's not. You would most likely horribly fail from even a slightly different angle.

But once you understand the 3d dimensional shape of the head you can draw it from any angle and you should train to understand that shape, not train to perfect lines that indicate a shape you do not understand.

If you were to sculpt a head in real life you could most likely draw a really good one despite the fact that you have not specifically trained drawing. Mastering to draw a line is not hard, that's just a mechanical skill you best train by actually drawing lines and curves.

The hard part is understanding the subject you draw to the degree you could easily sculpt it. That is what you have and should practice. And you can and should do that from any angle.
>>
>>2888048
you wasted time to draw details on something that was doomed from the start. Don't waste time on details, don't confuse a detailed drawing with a good drawing, spent time on the fundamentals. Like that fucking hand, neck and head. They are all horrible. How is that wispy neck supposed to hold that baseball head?
>>
>>2888059
no, i put my ideas and struggle on paper and render it after on cintiq. tthat's all.

always have a sketchbook with me too.

i'll repeat, i (shitly) drew from observation at 12. always drew.

and i just line draw 40 heads a day as a warmup. because it takes me 2min to draw one.

and i don't do commissions sorry, my work doesn't belong to be, i work in a small studio.

harshness here is a meme, but take it right, because you drawing deserve it.

Well, good for you. Maybe even necessary, if you're a professional as having a Cintiq implies. I simply want to have a refreshing hobby to have an outlet for my creativity. And I don't like that you can't erase a line drawn on paper just as easily and accurately as with a digital medium. Not my thing, sorry.

>>2888053
>> Is that all you ever want to draw? A head from a ~3/4 view?
I only want to draw incredible looking Yuuka, incredibly looking backgrounds and incredibly looking things. Not professionally, but for my own enjoyment. And I want to share this enjoyment with the viewers (and that's where I usually fail for the time being, 'cause I'm just a n00b; although I have yet to see a negative comment about any of my backgrounds). Everything else is just a way to this goal. For now, I have a pretty good understanding of the shape of legs and hands (because I see them so often, obviously; it also applies to other inanimate and animate (let's just agree that plants are animate) objects which I'm used to seeing) and can make some textures (patterns) look very convincing. I'm not used to seeing humans without clothes, so I'm challenging that lack of knowledge by drawing them naked. So as not to let the garment hide my lack of anatomy knowledge forever, so that I may learn on my mistakes.

(Continuation of the previous post.)

>> They possibly thought that was a sketch, not a finished image that deserves to be painted. Just a template for the actual drawing.
If the face looked too unnatural, some guys would eagerly tear me a new one in a matter of hours. Well, either that or they just thought that the left one is supposed to be for shaming myself, because the right one looks okay.

For the 3d head shape, I've been intensely studying this reference:
https://sketchfab.com/models/a1c0dec2a8564e80a62e607bb16db2e7
And looked at some tutorial pictures too. Judging by everyone's reactions, the reference study has proved helpful.

I actually thought to make some heads in a 3d editor like SketchUp or ZBrush, but my lack of knowledge about 3d editors requires to spend a lot of time simply learning it. The only thing I ever sculpted IRL is a small and unrealistic clay dinosaur of the Brachiosaurus species. He still stands on the shelf right behind me, even though more than a decade has passed.

It is important to draw what you enjoy. I dropped loomis because I didn't like drawing potatomen or 1950s comic book people. Vilppu is great for gestures, bridgman and bammes are good for anatomy, scott robertson is really good for technical drawings of vehicles and buildings, the book "the art of drawing animals" is great for animals.

>>2888095
Oh, and by the way, today I remembered about a trick which I thought up after drawing a frontal portrait poorly but not seeing my fault even after mirroring it in every possible way. It could help some other guys too.
Basically, if you're drawing a portrait and can't see anything wrong with it after mirroring it or squinting or looking at it from afar, first align the chin horizontally, then copy the side of the face that's facing the viewer (or do it for both, if you're drawing a frontal view) up to the line where the center of your face is supposed to be. Flip the copy horizontally and move it to that line, so you'd get a face in frontal view. Basically, if the result is close to what a normal human face should look, then you did alright. And if there are glaring errors which you can't notice because of your lack of experience, you'll most likely see them right away.

Her torso is way too big. The crotch is at roughly half the body. Head, torso and pelvis together are 4 heads in size. In dynamic poses this can be a bit off because of perspective and pose, but keep these proportions in mind. If shes not supposed to have human proportions ignore me. If she is, memorize basic proportions.

Yes, once you internalized proportions and perspective and instinctively know when something is off.

I would advise against measuring everything accurately with a ruler etc. if thats what you mean but you need to study proportions.
>>
>>2888231
for curves i mean across the shoulders they're like straight lines, also arms/legs etc. its kind of curvy instead "straight"
better to study it the right way, also for construction lines, I generally draw very lightly, then on top of that make a quick sketch. you wont have to make a new layer really for that
You should really try drawing from 3D models, you'll learn a shitton about anatomy

your lines are too scratchy, force yourself to make fewer lines. General proportions are correct. Arm looks a bit too bended. It's flesh wrapping around a bone - the muscles are curvy but the arm itself is not.

I'll try to do another perspective in due time, trying to first master a couple simple perspective like the 3/4 portrait and others.

You don't need rulers to git gud, if that's what you're asking. You don't need any measuring tools at all, besides your eye and your pencil. But you have much more pressing issues than measurement problems. Aside from the giant head, there is just no basic understanding of construction or form.

If you're worried about measuring with rulers then it looks like you haven't taken the intro to drawing /ic/ course yet. Go do that first via the sticky so that you can go improve a bunch.

If you take the course again, you'll be able to draw like a competent person in a month. 6 months would already seem like someone who's actually learning to draw and has experience. Of course, there's no guarantees, it's still up to you to put in the work and understand the material yourself.
>>
>>2888363
The problem is that my motivation to put serious attention into learning is fleeting. I get in moods where I want to sit down and spend time studying proportions and minor differences in intricacies of facial features , but if I'm not in one of those moods the most I can do is spend an hour doing some quick sketches. I have no discipline for drawing.

You don't need the virtruvian man of all things to study proportions. Studying doesn't have to be so complicated. That's why the sticky is there. It's a guide to show you were to start and how to progress to make it simple for you.

>The body I did was just a quick sketch not really shooting for accuracy.
That's fine and you don't need to shoot for accuracy. But you are on a drawing critique thread asking for whether you need a ruler or not, which is a glaring red light that you haven't tried the basics yet.

I know the vitruvian man is great and all, but how bout some Loomis instead?

Remilia Scarlet from Touhou. What is she supposed to look like... well, duh, she has blue hair, red eyes, bat wings (of varying shape, size, and point of origin), vampire fangs, and that's about all that is ever common in her many depictions. She is also generally considered to have a DFC or small breasts, and sharp claws too. Finally, it is generally agreed that she has a petite or at least slender body. You can see it all for yourself if you google her name or type it in danbooru search field.

If she has less fat you would notice the pelvis bones poking through even more. Theres no muscle above the edges of the pelvis, they instead attach on these edges. Thus it's always visible unless in seriously overweight people.

You would only see the ribcage like that without any muscle structure above it if she is as skinny as pic related. If shes meant to be somewhat muscular like her abs indicate then you would see the saw and oblique muscles attaching to the rib cage.

Wow. You know, I am a guy with a large ribcage, slightly triangular torso, wide shoulders, and legs longer than the torso. Forgot how do you call that body type. Endomorph or something like that?
I used to be fat when I was a kid. During the last school years, I got my act together and started training a lot. Endurance runs, dumbbells, push-ups and all that shit. So you see, some time later I was like 20 kg less, and everybody started noticing that I look much more slender. I have a little beer belly, but my ribs are clearly visible under my skin sometimes, and I can always count them easily. The girls whom I saw in swimsuits or naked IRL had pretty visible ribs too. So I thought it's only natural when your ribs show like that.

Okay, I'll note that about her pelvis and muscles. The body doesn't look too thin, does it?
>>
>>2888617
i have no clue what really the point of drawing like that is, but if i were you, i'd start drawing from reference, and when you draw, make sure you analyze EVERY SINGLE feature of the face and only draw shadows, no lines or anything. This will give you a kind of feel what the "shadows" really mean, for example if there is a hollow piece on the face or somthing, you'll learn alot that way instead of symbol drawing (which you were doing)
>>
>>2888619

But it shouldn't be visible all the way if you train a lot, instead you would see the lower edge of the ribcage and the muscles attaching to it, the oblique and saw muscle, producing a zig-zag like pattern at the sides.

Instead of spending days doing small fixes do a single drawing I would advice you learn stuff like anatomy and redo multiple drawings.

I wouldn't use a male bodybuilder type to understand the form of a woman...the muscles are the same yes, but the proportions and sizes are very different. Google "fit girl" images and study those.
>>
>>2888734
True, but it's his job to learn anatomy. He's been trying to fix the same drawing for days based on what anons tell him instead of bothering to learn it properly, it's depressing to watch.
>>
>>2888739
It's motivating to watch. So dedicated to his work, it's just so bad, but he wants it to be better. It's so hard for us to help him and it's so hard for him to fix it. I hope he doesn't give up and finishes it.
>>
>>2888708
arms don't seem quite right; length and muscle placement. Otherwise you're probably good. The gray on gray is hard to read though.
>>
>>2888383
i draw weird-ass fetish shit while jacking off but i keep that separate from my serious studies and artistic nudity. lots of these fuckers are too autistic to corral their dick for half a second to draw boobies without getting a bonner.
>>
>>2888383
It's not everyone, but a lot of people probably want to because no one else is doing drawings of what they have envisioned. Like imagine if you really liked a character but no one is drawing anything of her. You could do it, but you suck, so you decide to give it a shot and come to /ic/ for help.
>>
>>2888748
Yeah, I wondered that as well, left arm doesn't seem really "right". Tried fixing it meanwhile but it still looks off, maybe if I try bending it a bit in a > shape
Also the gray on gray is mainly because drawing on plain white really hurts my eyes alot when im focusing. What kind of background do you draw with?
>>
>>2888741
>I hope he doesn't give up and finishes it.

I hope he realizes that drawing requires skill and knowledge and instead attempts to actually learn it, make 100s of bad drawings and then draw her again with proper construction and anatomy.

Linework for which lines? That much chickensscratch means you're unsure about his form. Draw his body only using boxes, cylinders, and spheres. Then from that try to draw the rounded forms. I'm not the best at this but here you can see the Red lines are the boxy forms...and the Blue lines are the more natural lines i built off of the Red. If you have trouble seeing between the two just open it in your painting program and switch the Hue slider back and forth.

it's easier to copy from an artist's work because they already processed the model's information and gave a simplified/clearer version.

both, you want to make sure you assess all body types. i would imagine books mostly cover a "basic" figure without much variation

Her body is basically from the side viewpoint. I measured it out and shes right at 8 heads tall....which for Widowmaker is probably about right. I probably made her head a bit too small and that's why it looks off. If i make it a little bit bigger she would probably be at about 7.5 heads which is pretty standard. If i made her closer to actual in game WM proportions she'd have very very long legs and a relatively short torso, but i wanna make her a bit more realistic.

I just always give up on everything I do, because my mind is such a neighsayer. Of course it has flaws, but I won't be able to get any experience if I never practice and try to render a pic completely.

Pic related, someone else might take this sketch and make something really nice out of it, even if it wasn't perfect, you'd look at it for 8 seconds and be like, huh neat colors or something. The composition doesn't have to be perfect to get " huh nice" in the normies.

So I'm just stuck always making new things and don't want to finish the rest.

You'll have to stop thinking of the eyes as eyes since doing so reinforces symbol drawing. Think of them in their basic shapes just like the rest of the face. If you break down each facial feature to it's basic shape using boxes, spheres, cylinders, and cones you wont have to worry about making each eye the same as the other. Get the basic shapes right first...then add detail...meaning don't try to draw and shade an eye and then try to draw the other eye and rest of the face. Go big to small.
>>
>>2888847
>I just always give up on everything I do, because my mind is such a neighsayer.
You ever think about NOT doing that?
>>
>>2888828
Like i said in my previous post...i'm not trying to recreate her ridiculously unrealistic proportions where her torso is 20% shorter than it should be. I'll probably make her head a bit larger and see what shortening the torso a bit looks like, but it wont be as fucked as Jizzard made it.

Got it, I have a habit of completely shading and detailing an area then moving on to the next. I guess it is a mistake to not focus so much on shapes when I draw eyes compared to other things

This was the photo I used for reference, my facial proportions are legitimately wonky.
>>
>>2888840
When i first got my tablet i'd have to redraw a line sometimes nearly 50 or 60 times till i got it where i wanted it. Now it's maybe 10 if it's a complicated S or C curve. Usually if i can get it close enough i'll just use the transform tool on the line to move it where i want. Don't do short choppy strokes. Draw that line at least as long as the body part...something like elbow to wrist, hip to knee. You wont get confident making lines unless you do.
>>
>>2888858
>i'd have to redraw a line sometimes nearly 50 or 60 times till i got it where i wanted it

That's some crazy dedication. I give up after ten and just keep my shitty line as an act of luck.
>>
>>2888855
Part of the problem is that you seem to have you're camera too close to your face. This creates distortions. A 3/4 shot of the face from at least 4-5 feet away would be better than a straight on shot from 1 foot. In this pic you can see how this distortion happens. The top left is the camera from far away and zoomed in. The bottom right is the camera up close but zoomed out. One flattens the face, and the other distorts it...she probably in RL looks most like the 135mm one. Google "focal length".
>>
>>2888864
I'm familiar with focal length. Also dabble in photography. Didn't consider that my face would look different based on how close or far my camera was, that's pretty interesting. I don't know why I've never thought of using my camera to take my reference pictures instead of my phone's front camera.

This is what my eye looks like before detail, broken down into shapes then shaded. I already see how it seems better than going based off of
>start with a circle
tutorials.

That's great anon. From what you've got on screen, your lines are hairy - see how on the right most of the strokes are made in one motion; it's harder on a tablet, but you should try to make your lines like that' there's some great exercises you can pull from draw a box without actually going through the course.

Before you start on a face, for example, use a 2B pencil to define an homogeneus grey tone to the whole face (or face+chest in this case)
