Posting again from the other thread:

Guys, I'm thinking about buying the Super Pose book or maybe the Hyperangle. Could anyone red pill me on those books? Are they really good?

Any good books that teaches how to render materials in Photoshop?

idk if the super pose book is in the OP but the hyperangle one is if I'm not mistaken. I'd say just download it and look through it, if you like it then go ahead and buy it. If not go for the other one. I've heard both of them are good.

I just skimmed through them to check. Those really big flat ones are Copic wides. I'm not sure about the smaller ones and didn't happen to see him actually use them, but I doubt the brand really matters. He recommends Staedtler pens but uses Faber Castell PITT pens in most of his videos.

Thanks for replying!

Would you suggest anything else in the sense of animating special effects, dynamics, smoke, lights, magic, ect. The closest thing I have to that is the art of Akira.

The Japanese book I saw was all in Japanese text and had photos of manga like buildings. All I remember is that it was in a large mega link named book 11.

I'll be sure to check out, looks like it's good reads

elemental Magic is the closest it seems

being someone with some experience on both 2d/3d animation i get my references on things like explosions usually from videos (clips on youtube or the net in general); if not from there, i get them from books of anime with keyframes of their series (like groundwork of gurren lagann/evangelion/etc.etc; can find alot of them in sadpanda)

If you're talking about effects in a post-production manner though, i'm afraid im out of touch there

haven't seen the japanese book with manga like buildings; should've cloned the book11 mega archive when i had the chance

>>
>>2866406
The anon that made that fucked up a perfectly good pasta to show off his books. Reposting my reply to the anon yet again. I guess the only way this will stick is if I make a damned macro out of it:

I'm pretty sure the original copypasta is:

>1: Read Perspective Made Easy and do all the exercises.
>2: Read How to Draw by Scott Robertson and do all the exercises and watch the videos.
>3: Read Figure Drawing by Andrew Loomis and/or Michael Hampton and do all the exercises.
>4: Read Drawing the Head and Hands by Loomis and do all the exercises.
>5: Read Force by Michael Mattesi.
>6: Read How to Render by Scott Robertson and do all the exercises.
>7: Read Color and Light by James Gurney and do all the exercises.

>There you go, with 4 hours of focused practice a day (don't check your smartphone every 30 seconds) this training will last a whole year or a bit more. Also you need money to buy the books and a cintiq or intuos pro and ellipse templates etc.

>After you complete that just do what you want for a while, explore styles, what you like to paint and such. THEN make a list of the things you are not good at and you want to learn and get to it.

I question the validity of adding Framed Ink before learning figure drawing, and also adding 2 more figure drawing books. The 4 books you added aren't bad, but they're not necessary and a little redundant. If you felt like adding something, an introduction to digital painting like Ctrl+Paint would be more useful to most people. It's still a nice book collection, OP.
>>
>>2866424
Funny thing is even if they didn't do the exercises, but just drew for 4 hours a day, they would still be good. It's really just a trick to get you drawing.
>>
>>2866429
>Funny thing is even if they didn't do the exercises, but just drew for 4 hours a day, they would still be good.
Someone who has an idea of what to study will do better than someone who tries to figure everything out on their own. "Just draw" is shit advice when someone is specifically asking for a curriculum to follow.
>It's really just a trick to get you drawing.
Adding unnecessary books to a curriculum that covers the basics and passing it off as "The Fastest Way to Improve" doesn't help anyone.

Okay I'm gonna sound like a complete baka but is there something on rendering techniques to make stuff look pretty? Like step-by-step stuff that tells you specifically to, for example, lower opacity of your brush to achieve this or that effect. Looking at how other artists work is great but i lose track of what is going on halfway through and figuring out how somebody did something from a finished piece feels hopeless at my level.

Please help thanks, have a Link for your troubles.

Out of curiosity, for those of you that have taken photos of a book and uploaded the pictures (as opposed to tearing out the pages and scanning them), how do you do it? Do you just get a DSLR in a well-lit room and fire away or is there a better way to do it?

It might seem like a weird question but I have a few books I'd like to document digitally (and possibly upload).
>>
>>2878647
I did that once. Opened the book up as flat as I could on a table in a sun room so there was a lot of ambient light, and just took a dslr and snapped a pic of every page. The results were alright but not as nice as taking it apart and scanning. I also had a pretty sore back from standing over it awkwardly for so long to snap all the photos, so try to get a setup where that doesn't happen.

I have this, but I'm not gonna tear it up to do scans.

DESU it's very, very mediocre. I learned a lot more from studying all of bridgman's work and then going to life drawing once a week for a few years.

This "Reilly Method" isn't much of a method at all. Construction is a method, sight-size is a method. What JF covers is like planes flowing over the face/body, but it's just surface-level stuff.

I heard all this buzz about the Reilly method, so I bought the book, but after having spent a good deal of time studying gesture, bridgman and hampton, there's pretty much nothing in there that's really helpful- and i'm only intermediate level.

Even for a beginner, it's meh. It's kind of just your average "how to draw people", but with less cohesion than the more structure-oriented books.

The Reilly method *is* a thing I hear, or at least it was, but you had to be in the classes to really *get* it. no one ever properly captured it in a book.

Judging by Faragasso's book, the Reilly Method mainly just identifies common gesture rhythms. It seems like a good supplement to Villpu's book to help bridge the gap between gesture and construction.

Use megadownloader, stream the link (Streaming>Watch online), copy the stream link, download it with a IDm or manager of choice.
To active the stream feature, go to options, configurations, streaming, check "use streaming server".

Well shit, the last time I tried to find something on the pirate bay was over a year ago and I gave up after the shitty proxy site kept trying to send me pop-ups. Now the .org is back and it took like 10 seconds to get this book. Thanks.

Lol i own this on paper; its pretty good but honestly nothing special. Basic face proportions that all books show, basic boob and but tutorials youll find on pinterest, standard 7/8/9 head proportions.

Anyone have this awesome pencil brush set?

Oh, I own it too. It's just like 4 pages of those proportions, then a bunch of pen and brush techniques and theory,
There are honestly better books on drawin women.
I also got the pdf,

It's pretty old actually, and not a meme. Just a chart some guy put together that he didn't maintain very well

It's a good list and all but really it's nothing too helpful a few days of lurking and browsing these threads won't get you. Loomis, Robertson, figures, it's the usual. And not in any kind of /mu/ flowchart kind of thing either.
