Man, I hate art historians. look what this faggot, Kenneth Clarck, says about this work. He says that it "scarcely deserves its notoriety"
May I ask, why? Its a powerful and awe striking figure, so why it dosent deserve to be famous? Why are Michelangelo's slaves works of genius, but not this nightmare of a work?
Looking through these, I find it odd how modern sculptures seem to lack something. It might be the commercial aspects, but the vast majority of modern sculptures seem to have this cartoony, superficial element to them. They can be incredibly detailed and well made, but they lack the subtlety and beauty of the Greek, Roman and Renaissance sculptures.
I've seen this in a lot of CGI as well. Most creatures and models seem to based on the same, slightly cartoony style, both in looks and animation. Even the physics feel off.
This one seem pretty realistic and far from superficial.
Glad this thread was made, statues are great for learning, especially for values.
jesus tap dancing christ these are great. thanks anons
“Art is the process of evoking pity and terror, which is not abstract at all but very human. What the self-styled modern artists are doing is a sort of unemotional pseudointellectual masturbation . . . whereas creative art is more like intercourse, in which the artist must seduce -- render emotional -- his audience, each time.”
Here's a pretty recent one, and I see what you mean about it looking cartoony
/r/ the statue head in this picture
i can't remember the name of it
youare aretard , but we are all bad at some obvious thing and good at others that most people find hard
have fun, try to understand, simplify, get some inspiration and practice, it will go easily
Did a study of a statue just now. Felt like this was the most appropriate thread to post it in. Statues are great guys post some more
Can anyone tell me if this is genuine?
I fucked up, neck and the hip feels completely off :/
Knee distance to face is off, curveture of torso is off, angle on arm is off, angle of head is off, destance between the legs are off.
Think in shapes first. Negative space.
I've got about 100+ in my statue folder, might dump in a few days
in the mean time I'll post some good ones
There was a really good study of this one, but I for got to save it
Is it possible to get a 3d print of something like pic related these days? It'd be a great piece in the house
The purchase woman
bsaed off of the newest meme in da hood burchase.weebly.com
Imagine spending 3 years to do a kitschy sculpture of an idealized pornstar not even giving a fuck about the hair. Just imagine
The good thing is that it was probably done with a gypsum mold so at least he didn't waste his time
backside, strategic dog
this fucking shit right here out of a single block or marble muh dick
Il Disinganno, Francesco Queirolo
there are specific tools to make that effect, you 'just' do the shape of the cords and shave it off
like bernini's hairs for example in louis xiv, it was done with a specific tool
it doesn't take away any of the magic though. just think about it, they'd save months of work, get a more predictable result, and they avoided mistakes for the most part. imagine chiseling this the scrub way and ruining it
If you mean the famous michelangelo's one, then no it's not a study at all, it's proportions are all tweaked because it was supposed to be seen from below, atop a column, and it's a very unusual david, shown in the moment before the battle, thoughtfully holding the stone, rather than holding goliath's sword and severed head like all other renaissance davids, even in its time it was anything but mundane.
As opposed to satires and angels courting naked women, and gods abducting said women right?
I won't give you shit because that and almost everything he's posting is clearly meant to be porn, no better than hentai figurines, but human passion is imprinted in everything in this thread and all art at large.
You can't diss something simply for being erotic, instead, focus in how disgusting are the facial features in most of the shit he posted, I can bet they're both meant to "shock" in it's ugly depiction of reality, and were referenced from ratchet pornstars.
What are your favorite Greco-Roman flicks about artists?
I'll fookin reck ya goy i swer to jhw
Looks like Bruno Walpoth.
It says that that's the pose Zeus has in many other depictions, both pictorial and statuary, that a trident would have to be cartoonishly short or risk covering the face and Poseidon either holds or stabs with the trident doesn't throw it, and that people who call it poseidon only do so because it was found it in the sea, like many other statues of disparate subjects, it's not even an argument, more of a nickname.
A possibility exist but it is certainly not "most likely".
Were you sitting down when you drew this? It's good, but the lower section seems completely shrunk compared to the top section. Like, all you'd need to do is enlarge the bottom somehow
The hand is the least of your problems mate
In order I'd say
the entire lower half is cartoonishly small, shoulder and upper arm also small, head fucken giant like a toddler
didn't capture the shape of the lowered leg at all, and pretty much everything else could be better. Texture is too scribbly
chickenscratch as fuck
did you even try?
you ignored the statue and drew your own, come on what kind of study is that?
didn't even try
And only then the face and hand, which you just avoided.
Good job on those mad quads tho
