I know that jews, gypsies, ukranians, basically ANYONE who are considered different were persecuted and taken to concentration camps. But how were BLACKS treated by the Nazi regime? Were they treated equally like the whites or where they too persecuted? Cause i heard some were treated fairly and there are even accounts of blacks in the Wehrmacht.
The population was too small for the Nazis to bother formulating any real policy on.
Blacks were excluded from marrying Aryans by the Nuremberg laws.
The "Rhineland Bastards" - children of black French soldiers and German women from the occupation of the Rhineland were strerilised.
Thats the biograsphy of a black child in germany during the nazi-era. It was hard and oppression existed, often he had luck. It was way better than beeing a jew tho.
Thats stupid on so many levels. Sure it existed, as mentioned above, but that was also the hatred on the french playing in there.
Considering the far worse choices you could end up being gay, jewish, russian pow or other stuff, being black was a minor problem.
I think it's partially because the Nazis still saw Blacks as a good work force, especially considering the use and experience with Askaris in the ww1 african theater.
Germans had experience in colonization and outright genocide before the Holocaust, it's important to note this man's cousin of a powerful Vai family >>608089 wrote of Germans telling her she and her family would be important for Germany's future colonial endeavors.
Germany was actively racist and discriminatory in Namibia, they actively insulted the Baster community who was arguably their closest thing to an ally foe being mixed race and actively made laws to oppose intermarriage.
Individuals may have had advantageous relationships with powerful trading women like the grandfather of Liberia's president or intermarried into prominent families like in Haiti and Samoa but these were exceptional.
During the 1930s, there was not enough blacks in Germany to be much of a concern for this average citizen or Nazi. They did not think of blacks as African-Americans (which I think is what the modern world thinks of blacks in 2016), but as peoples from Africa, which of course some Nazis undoubtedly had respect for, as did most people at the time, but for the most part, the peoples of Africa were seen as primitive, maybe even something of an enigma or mystery that common people had no clue about, and in desperate need of European rule.
Its important to remember that Nazis killed every one of every race, even ethnic Germans who disagreed with their politics
Africa and the African peoples were a distant thought in the minds of the Nazis, something they really didn't care about
modern world thinks any creature with two legs living onto USA are Americans ethnic even an American ostrich.
>they actively insulted the Baster community who was arguably their closest thing to an ally foe being mixed race and actively made laws to oppose intermarriage.
Yeah right the Krauss hated the Batters hard. For all extents and purposes to Germans Basters were a mutt nigger race who spoke crude dutch and were backwards with some Euro aspects
Basically the number of black Germans at the time was so vanishingly small that we basically just have anecdotes, like the one another poster referenced (which demonstrated the difficulty of being black under the Nazi regime). There aren't, as far as I know, any big works on "blackness" in Nazi Germany.
However, what I can tell you is that at least one demographic of "black Germans" was victimized by the Nazis and the German state - the children produced by French colonial troops who assisted in the occupation of the Ruhr in 1928 and German women. They were all sterilized and, in some cases, killed.
The Ukrainians were considered to be at least partly Germanic based upon a nazi understanding of history. There were some legit east germanic language speakers there until 1945 when that particular clade of languages went extinct and the Kiev is where the norse colonists landed and Russia was born. Look at the Azov battalion. They have a fucking black sun in their unit insignia.
what about the askaris
they fought to the last day in WW1, pretty much undefeated
Yeah, the only people who were regarded as unambiguously subhuman were sub-Saharan Africans - as I recall, they were the only group regarded by nazi anthropologists as "cultural destroyers", whereas slavs, natives, asians, etc were "cultural carriers". The Aryans, of course, were "cultural creators".
I'd like to point out that there was also not one but two Muslim SS divisions. The Free Hindustan and Free Arab volunteer legions were inducted into the SS at the end of the war as well IIRC
Honestly, the nazis were way less racist than people generally think. Sure, their antisemitism was overboard, but hardly anything beyond it.
Poles were also treated pretty shittily, but that was because of their refusal to join the anti-commintern pact. In early 1930s Hitler praised them for defeating the Soviets, but it soon changed. In the end however they were the ONLY conquered nation without their collaborationist government or military force.
Also the treatment of Russians and Ukrainians was pretty irrational, seeing how many Russians and most Ukrainians initially saw the Germans as liberators from the Soviets.
While stuff like the Hindus fighting alongside Wehrmacht is pretty cool, the Germans were massively abusive of both the conquered nations and even their allies as well, from the big ones like Italy to the small like Hungary. It was anything but rational desu. Weirdly I think only Croatians and Slovaks weren't mistreated that badly.
I think the Polish stuff is a good example of nazi pragmatism, how they went from "these guys are a potential ally" to "they need to be curbed down". The Serbs were treated similarly if I recall correctly.
About Ukrainians, well they were treated quite well initially after their territory was conquered, then the massive Soviet partisan operations began, so the Germans employed pretty aggressive methods of dealing with it, disregarding all the innocent lives that got caught up in it.
I remember reeading the memories of some Slovak (?) commander stationed in Ukraine, about how his company was getting along with the locals, until a few of his soldiers were found with slit throats, then the rest of the company went mad and just shot up the nearby village. So I think it was a combination of emotional response and savage pragmatism rather than ideological zeal.
This is bullshit. Scientific racism and volkisch racial theory were part and parcel of Nazi ideology. They were the entire foundation for lebensraum and the whole bizarre blood and soil nonsense - you cannot have Nazism without extreme racism, applied pretty much universally outside of the small group of "genuine" aryans.
That being said, I think that what people don't understand is that the German state applied racial theory when it suited them, for the most part, and so there are a multitude of counterexamples where the Nazis/Wehrmacht somehow contradicted their professed racist views.
However, that wasn't the rule. The death squads of the eastern front had no practical value and were literally the material realization of nazi ideology
In Belarus where the atrocities were the heaviest, the Dirlewanger division (pretty much a penal brigade consisting of convicted criminals) was deployed only after partisans started fucking shit up. It was kind of like what the Americans did in Vietnam, just because an atrocity happened it doesn't mean there is an ideological rather than pragmatic motive.
No, it doesn't mean there is an ideological motive, but you'd be nuts to pretend there wasn't in the case of eastern front atrocities. Heck, I'd argue there's an ideology implicit in American murders in Vietnam too, albeit a less thoroughly articulated one.
>basically ANYONE who are considered different were persecuted and taken to concentration camps
nigga, fucking persian jews were spared from the camps cause they were considered protected under Cyrus the Great's protocol
They were pragmatic when it came to manpower. Lots of Soviet deaths can be attributed to HiWis, both POW and voluntary.
Using this as evidence of a "tolerant" Nazi Germany is just absurd, though. Nazi Germany was first and foremost for Germans.
Read up on Jesse Owens, the black Olympic runner who won in Berlin 1936. Tl;dr, he was better treated by Hitler than Roosevelt - he got a signed picture, and allegedly (though there are contradictory accounts) a meeting with Hitler, while Roosevelt ignored him altogether. Also in the Olympic village there was no racial segregation, while in the US he had to stay in a separate building altogether.
Of course, his victory was massively political either way, but Hitler at least had some decency to show him due respect.
It will be interesting if they show any of this side of the story in the new movie about it they're making. From what I saw of it it looks to be a cashgrab off of the BLMfags who they expect to eat it up, but showing literally Hitler treating blacks better than America would probably fit the message they're trying to exploit perfectly.
He would've overstayed his welcome if he decided to stay in Germany to live there and face great discrimination in discrimination in employment, welfare, and housing, and were also barred from pursuing a higher education.
