The Mensheviks were more tolerant in terms of cooperating with other political factions. Orwell left Spain thoroughly disillusioned with basically every political faction on the Peninsula. Religion varied from being openly oppressed to just taboo in the Soviet Union over the course of the 20th century.

Compared to the Russian Christian Orthodox though, the Jews got off comparatively lightly because they weren't associated with the Old Regime (quite the opposite, in fact) and there really wasn't enough of them to constitute an existential threat in the same way that existed for Christianity or Islam.
