Is there anyone in history more deserving of the title of 'absolute madman', than Oda Nobunaga?
>>
From a military standpoint?

Hernan Cortez and Pizarro both come to mind. I'm sure there are others.

He actually fought and survived in Palestine during the establishment of Israel as well.

He was the first guy on the scene here.

why did Mitsuhide kill him?

Yes, gold is a very valuable commodity, therefore you are right and I must follow my Japanese instincts and bow before you.

P.S. I had no intentions of independence anyways.

>absolute madman

in terms of what?

George Lucas is quite the good candidate for the title.
>>
A lot of the stuff Hannibal pulled off was pretty insane. Well executed, but insane.

Pretty much all the Conquistadors were nuts.

Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot...

Sparticus. Especially when he decided to turn back south after defying all odds.

>Jack Churchill was second in command of No. 3 Commando in Operation Archery, a raid on the German garrison at Vågsoy, Norway, on 27 December 1941.[15] As the ramps fell on the first landing craft, Churchill leapt forward from his position playing "March of the Cameron Men"[16] on his bagpipes, before throwing a grenade and running into battle in the bay. For his actions at Dunkirk and Vågsoy, Churchill received the Military Cross and Bar.

Seconding.

Say what you will about Cracked.com, but by all accounts Andrew Jackson was indeed a bona fide off-his-rocker motherfucker, of the first and highest order.

Also, Aaron Burr was a goddamn madman in his own right, if we want to talk about duelists.

This

>Zhang Xun said before the fall, "We are out of strength, and can no longer defend the fortress. Although we have failed the emperor in life, we hope to keep killing enemies after death."

>Yin Ziqi asked,"I heard that every time you fight, you open your eyelids until they rip, and you bite your teeth until they crack. Why do you do that?" Zhang Xun answered, "I want to eat you traitors alive. The damages to my eyes and teeth are nothing." Yin Ziqi used a dagger to hold open Zhang Xun's mouth, and to his surprise, all but three of Zhang Xun's teeth were indeed cracked. Zhang Xun finally said, "I die for my emperor, so I will die in peace."

and then there was the whole cannibalism thing.

Madmen are often just people who think so radically from the norm that we can only see them as insane. I personally like to think of him as more the "necessary demon." Sure he was brutal and what not, but lets be honest, when it comes to the unification of Japan and the "unifiers" of Japan, he's a big name.

Also.

>Japan demonizes this guy
>Makes memorials/statues to him

Seriously make up your fucking mind.

>Digby led a bayonet charge against them wearing a bowler hat. He later disabled a German armoured car with his umbrella, incapacitating the driver by shoving the umbrella through the car's observational slit.[1]

>Digby then noticed the Padre pinned down by enemy fire while trying to cross the street to get to injured soldiers. Digby got to him and said "Don't worry about the bullets, I've got an umbrella". He then escorted the padre across the street under his umbrella. When he returned to the front line, one of his fellow officers said about his umbrella that "that thing won't do you any good", to which Digby replied "Oh my goodness Pat, but what if it rains?"

I always wonder - is the deal with guys like this just that for every one of them you hear about, there's ~99 who got their fool asses kilt? Possibly along with a whole bunch of others?
