hey /gd/, i'm working on a logo for someone who does film related stuff and I'm trying to turn this C into a film reel with film spinning around it, but I can't seem to get it right. Any ideas?

Do people still make movies with film?

Not really, outside of weird experimental shit anyway, but film reels/cameras are still recognizable by most people and make for effective iconography.

Of course they still shoot on film.
The new Star Wars was shot on film for example:

>find some references (way better if you can actually take the photos)
>edit pics on PS bring them to AI for the logo illustration
>work only with black and white (useful to see the negative space)
>maybe try using a grid (try different fonts)
>work on the x-height
>work the kerning try:

-pic related (i know, looks like crap but its the first one i find on google)

bad things about your design:
the font is shit.
bad proportions/balance
the first letter doesn't make sense
bad color choise

Of course they do. The majority of movies are just shot on digital so you either don't notice the movies shot on film.
A lot of Directors have been fighting to keep film alive and have saved Kodak from ending production on their film. I think they're doing very well this year too.
It's pretty much the mainstream directors who use film since it's so damn expensive which is why many people don't use it.

I think what you're trying to do is too far of a push. If you can't get it to work, it's time to go back to the drawing board
