I made a clean installation of Windows 7 Embebbed Starter on another 500GB hard disk of mine, but I can't boot on it alone directly. I'm greeted by the "BOOTMGR is missing" message thing instead.

I can boot it only if I first select the main hard disk I use since the beginning, then select the desired new OS I have installed recently.

It may seems obvious on what to do, but still, I'm not sure on what to do. Any suggestions over getting rid of the bootmgr error, please?

I have a Windows and Linux dual boot on 1tb harddrive. The Windows partition is 800gb and the Linux partition is 200gb but I also have a 250gb SSD that only has some games on it. Should I just give Windows and Linux each their own drives by moving Linux to the 250 SSD and expanding the Windows partition to the full 1tb harddrive with the games? And would this be an easy task or no?
Thanks

Was 144 Hz a mistake? Should I have waited for a 240 Hz monitor?

It was fine for a while, then all of a sudden I'm playing Overwatch and feel like I'm at 100 or 120 Hz, like maybe I changed the setting by accident, but nope, it's at 144 Hz even with the strobing on so it's as smooth-looking as it will get. Maybe I'm just hyper alert/focused today but a few months ago it used to look super smooth. Now I'm starting to notice every stutter and screentear that it's starting to irritate me. At this point 60 Hz is probably unplayable. I don't even like 100 or 120 Hz for gaming either.

glossing over the specs on wikipedia, it looks like you'd probably be better off transcoding the dumps
they use I-frame-only video, interlaced, and uncompressed audio
compressing the audio with flac is free savings, since it's lossless

interlaced video isn't very wieldy these days, even televisions are all progressive scan these days
i would suggest deinterlacing them with QTGMC (avisynth or vapoursynth), and encoding them to low-CRF x264/x265, this will result in a nice 50/60fps progressive output

clip related, it's from an analog Hi8 tape, but deinterlaced with QTGMC, 25fps interlaced > 50fps progressive

2x GTX 670 for $160 AUD
1x GTX 680 for $200 AUD
Which is the better choice? I know SLI is kinda shit, so if I were to get the 670's, and SLI ruins performance in any tasks, could just try to resell for a profit.
In the real world, the 680 would be better since it's straight 4GB as opposed to the 2GB of the SLI 670's, correct?
I know, it's probably better to go for a new card, but the 1050 Ti is $250+shipping, and the theoretical performance of, say, the 680 beats the 1050 Ti.
The 660-680 is about where I've been looking because I've noticed they're consistently cheap. I've got the R7 360, so there are a lot of cards that perform better than mine.

Nope. "else if" is for checking for another condition if the first "if" fails. In this case "else" will be run if the first "if" fails no matter what so it doesn't have to check another conditional.

>>
>>62346274
I understand that, but if that was the case then shouldn't there be no condition check if they actually wanted to use an 'else'?

and in the c# one theres a condition check as part of the 'do this' bit

so it would be like this

            if (RadioButton1.IsChecked == true)
{
MessageBox.Show("Hello!");
}
else if (RadioButton2.IsChecked == true)
{
MessageBox.Show("Goodbye loser!");
}
else
{
MessageBox.Show("Forgot the option dummy");
}

Since boolean expressions (in vs) are either only used during check (ifs and so on) and assignments (usually) take place outside checks there's no ambiguity from the compiler's perspective. So you can use a single = for both. It's a bit language depended since some allow assignments in boolean checks (generally a bad thing), I assume VS doesn't, at least not using standard syntax.

With that said, it's awkward as hell for people to read.

if (Boolean == true) should probably be (Boolean) and ((not/!) Boolean) in order to reduce ambiguity and fuckups.

when you say multiples, does it matter which one I pick? i.e., is there a difference between setting one with a refresh of 24/1.001, 48/1.001, or 72/1.001? If my monitor is only 60hz, will 72/1.001 still work?
>>

>>
>>62349076
>does it matter which one I pick?
not for an LCD with an always-on backlight (aka, a normal one), as the picture doesn't change no matter how many times you draw the same frame
for CRTs, or "lightboost" backlights, it can make a difference, 72/1.001 (3x) is probably a minimum you'd want though, 2x flickers noticably, and 1x will be unwatchably flickery

>If my monitor is only 60hz, will 72/1.001 still work?
probably, my monitor is only officially "60Hz", and i've used this same mode in a couple other basic "60Hz" monitors without trouble
>>
>>62349076
>>62349144
ps. i picked 72/1.001 because it's the only multiple my monitor can handle, it refuses any mode outside of the vertical refresh ranges of 50-76, which is not uncommon

I can vouch for thinkpad. Even for very cheap you can get a decent laptop that even though is a bit outdated, is pretty solid (it will probably never break, and if it does, it is VERY easy to find separate pieces for it for very cheap). I am using a x200 with 4gb of RAM and core2duo, what I do is browse 4chan and other websites, programming, watching movies etc, and the thing never failed me, never froze, etc.

with a x200, for instance, my hardware is outdated but I have the benefit of having a top-tier built quality (for a stupid low price), so if there is no need for heavy computing (games, etc) thinkpad is GOAT.

(only game I ever played on this thing is cs 1.6 with few friends, but now I am only using gnu/linux)

if he is only starting, depending on his age, if he is a bit young, codeacademy can be good, because it is very interactive so its very stimulating, hard to lose interest as you can instantly see the results as you learn, unlike studying through a textbook.

If he is a bit older, I'd suggest harvard's free CS50 lectures, it is a great course and uses for the most part of the course the C programming language, which is a great way to start programming. There is also python in this course, which is also a decent language to learn, so the kid can kind of choose which route he wants. This course is very good and focus on practice, so can be a bit hard, every week there is 1 assignment, but it is very rewarding.

I believe these 2 are great resources to start.

will it help? no
but if the cost isn't a problem, then you should anyway, as it will make it easier to switch to AC fully later on

I installed lcmark using luarocks install --local
https://github.com/jgm/lcmark

When trying to include it in my application, lua complains:
/Applications/ZeroBraneStudio.app/Contents/ZeroBraneStudio/bin/lua.app/Contents/MacOS/lua: error loading module 'cmark' from file '/Users/nn/.luarocks/lib/lua/5.2/cmark.so':
dlopen(/Users/nn/.luarocks/lib/lua/5.2/cmark.so, 6): no suitable image found. Did find:
/Users/nn/.luarocks/lib/lua/5.2/cmark.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture
/Users/nn/.luarocks/lib/lua/5.2/cmark.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture

Shouldn't luarocks have compiled this correctly for me?

Why is that when I leave my laptop turned off for a long time (like when I sleep) when I try to turn it on it just won't? Sometimes it does power on but lasts a few seconds. I even bought a new battery but that doesn't seem to be the issue ;_;.

spend hours on the internet searching for a solution and only getting snarky responses to your questions.

eventually you will have to type incredibly long and esoteric commands into that command prompt to get the system to boot, then you will search for a few more hours trying to discover how to reinstall grub but you will only find instructions for an obsolete version of grub and you will only get errors.

eventually you will give up and go back to Windows.

I'm on Portugal and using Manjaro, but I've had this issue with Ubuntu as well, I can't find a fix anywhere on the web
>>
>>62350811
I can't find any and I wouldn't know how to install them if I even had them
>>
>>62350915
You're definitely not the first person to have this problem.
How much have you looked around for a solution? There has to be one out there.
>>
>>62350956
All of the ones I've read assume I have an internet connection which I don't.

I'm trying to figure out how I can use another device to find the driver and transfer it, but I have no idea how I go about installing it from USB.

I bought a ps4 pro and when I connected it to my monitor I found out that the HDMI port is dead.

I am looking for a 32" new screen, should I buy 1440p (not really works with PS4 pro) or 2160p one (my meme'970 is not good enough for it)?

I work a lot with CAD and I am not entirely sure if 32 inch 1080p screen will work good in that case.
>>

32 inches is big as fuck if you're actually using it up close as a computer screen. Minimum 1440p. That's like the one instance I'd consider seeking 4k as a feature.

Looks like libxss1 is not in that steampowered repo.

Where did you download that discord.deb? And did you read the instructions that came with it? Why the hell didnt you just install discord with apt-get?

Also why are you using precise repos? Precise Pangolin came out in 2012. There have been 10 new releases since then. Even the long term support version of precise has reached end of life.

Update your shit.
