It's one bit creeepy and one bit serendipitous that the moment you learned about the CM MasterKeys Pro M and seriously considered getting one, people in the last thread also started talking about it and other "compact" with-numpad boards like the Leopold FC980M.

And so: Is the MasterKeys Pro M a good buy? This would be my first time buying from this brand.

I spilled some sody pop on my HHKB many years ago and even though I tore it all the way down and cleaned everything out the left shift still feels a bit... off? do I need to oil it or something? Not sure what's causing it. haven't used the keyboard in a few years

best thing about how HHKB2 Pro is how the keys feels. They're absolutely perfect.
The profile and the plastic itself is just amazing. It's like sex for your fingertips. It's always textured and does't get smooth. The keys themselves don't have any raised edges like lastered legend keys do so it's all just perfect to the touch.
I got it last week and I just keep my fingers on it since it feels so damn good.

10/10 keyboard all around. would buy again.

Top looks like fucking puke. The white and beige do not go well with dark grey - if the modifiers were light grey or darker beige, it would work as a retro scheme. Right now it just looks out of place and horrible

I love mine. I'd like to buy the second one so I can use it at work.

there's no need for Al cases. cases they come in are nice and the steel plate is heavy.

after trying so many keyboards, I still come back to it.

>second day of using mixed switches
>already want to order more
welp, looks like I'm converting my first mechanical keyboard in some kind of frankenstein that'll look like a switch-tester bracket. Thinking about getting clears for the 2nd row and a hand full of meme switches for the far right column.
>>
>>62262659
>I am really happy with my $150 purchase, I have never touched another topre board in my life but trust me this one is great.
Before the novatouch got discontinued there were more people buying them to put the sliders in their hhkb than to actually use the board.
>>
>>62262785
I have an HHKB2. I miss arrow keys and the layout is shit.
Anyway, you sound like an idiot who's never even tried good boards. You just speak of 'other people'.
>>
>>62262689
Are the kailh golds decent quality? I'm intrigued but wary, still chink shit and all.
>>
so I ordered this with colemak layout and monochrome modifiers
>>
>>62261978
I wish I could justify getting the aluminum case for it, but it's more expensive than what I paid for the actual keyboard.
>>
What's the cheapest board with clears I can get, up to a TKL? Already own all of the 3 lighter switches, but I can't find any of the medium weight ones apart from blacks, and I'd like to try out clears considering Gateron browns are one of my favorites. Don't really care about the size, as long as it isn't full-size.
>>
>>62263050
They feel more solid than the gaterons, less wobble, the click isn't as high pitched
That said the kailhs are new, the gaterons are a year old
>>
>>62262864
>I miss arrow keys and the layout is shit.
Why did you buy it then ? The Layout is one of the best things about it.
>>
The 1800 layout has ruined small keyboards for me, I used to love 60 and 65% boards but now when I use one I just keep missing my numpad and the extra keys above it. The only thing better about the 60/65 is having the esc key on the numrow making it easy to reach without having to shift my whole hand.
>>
>>62263079
Just so you know, you won't get it until 2019, there's a good chance Massdrop will cancel your order and they also might accidentally ship your caps to someone else and only offer you a refund

>>

>That Scitex version
God damn. Does this layout exist anymore? Leopold FC980 is pretty close but their switch selection is kinda minimal.
>>
>>62259979
The 980M is a better deal.
>>
>>62259979
>Is the MasterKeys Pro M a good buy?
Depends on what you're caring the most about: that keyboard comes with shit keycaps and cherry mx switches, but admittedly has a great form factor and layout.
The Leopold FC980M has better keycaps, and an arguably better layout, that manages to retain some more keys, especially the arrows, with only an extremely minimal increase in size.

They both come with a limited selection of cherry mx switches, that for some might be a deal breaker, although it is also true that you either build your own keyboard at unearthly costs, or come down to heavy compromises in terms of layout and/or build quality in the case of a pre-built one, if you want non-mainstream switches mechanical keyboard in general.

I have no idea where you got 90% of the stuff you're implying, but regardless.
The older set cost about $30 on Massdrop, and you can probably attribute some of that to shipping. Also wouldn't call it "unofficial Chinese sources". Tmall is more strict than Taobao, the seller is well reviewed and it has a shit ton of reviews with pictures. Worst case scenario I paid $20 for shit caps, so who cares. Just thought it was funny to see this stuff so widely available in China for so cheap.

For anyone considering buying the Drevo Gramr keep in mind that you can't turn off all the leds on the keyboard.

Even if you turn the light setting to the lowest the leds on F12, PrtSc, Pause and Caps Lock will always be on.

It's obviously not the biggest problem but sucks that such a basic thing isn't included in the keyboard settings.

Then OK I guess. Note that the shine actually changes the texture, even if you keep it perfectly clean it will feel oily. In my opinion that's disgusting.

You could always go for yellowed plastic, faded legends, etc. I get where you're coming from, I would consider pad-printed legends just so I could fade then to get a retro look. But I would never type on a shiny ABS keyboard.

You do you, man. But PBT is objectively better quality. If you like the way ABS deteriorates, and are willing to put up with all the hassle, good, but it doesn't change that it's deteriorating where PBT would still be good as new.

In order, from worst to best:
>tactile MX switch with O-rings
By that I mean mostly browns or clears. The easiest choice, but not exactly silent (though definitely quieter than undampened blues), and unless you find yourself liking that particular setup (which does sometimes happen) it will feel like shit (which is the more common opinion by far).

>silenced reds/blacks
These are properly silenced, but they're also linear, so they're definitely not for everyone.

>topre
You have two options: silenced topre, or normal topre with kbdfans silencing rings. Topre in general is pretty quiet, so when silenced it really isn't loud. But again, the switch itself means this isn't for everyone.

>Matias Quiet Click
Matias/alps switches in general are much more tactile than MX switches - some consider them almost on par with buckling springs. Matias's quiet switch is, again, properly silenced, so it's really very quiet, while barely sacrificing any tactility. The downside is that right now it's very difficult to find PBT keycaps, so you'll likely have to settle for ABS until Matias starts making their own PBT sometime next year.

Light linear switches (cherry mx red) are often marketed towards gamers, since you're going to bottom them out anyway while gaming thus having a switch that doesn't oppose any resistance reduces the time it takes to activate the switch. This in theory. Practically it doesn't really matter the kind of switch you choose for gaming except, maybe, cherry mx blue because activation and deactivation points are located at different points in the key travel; moreover you don't want any click sound so you'll want to avoid these. You will also find that cherry mx brown, so called "tactile" switches, are marketed as jack of all trades, good for both gaming and typing; most people here consider them just bad because they're not good for nothing, except feeling like dirt got between the switch plunger and the shaft inside which it rides.

The best silent tactile switches might currently be matias quiet click, or some chink knockoff of the cherry design, but they're just impossible to find in pre-built cheap keyboards, so your choice is either cherry mx red, black (the difference is in the weight), or brown, since these are the mainstream ones.

If you have the chance go in a brick and mortar store, find a mechanical keyboard and try the switches out.
>>

Go to a store and try out switches if you can. all switches are "removable" by desoldering them afaik - and if you are confident enough to solder on your own switches you'll also be able to convert any keyboard to have a detachable cable, it's pretty easy and you can look up guides.

I have the full size version from the other video. Mainly I got it to mess with the RGB lighting and to test out the switches. The micro usb cable port underneath doesn't feel like it really fits snug and you can kinda see it in the video but there are two plastic protrusions that sit on the sides of the usb plug that can prevent you from using wider micro usb cables with the keyboard. It sometimes seems to disconnect if you pick up the keyboard but the keyboard itself is built very solid it's pretty heavy and the rubberized feet prevent it from moving by itself so it's not really a huge problem for me personally. It really doesn't feel cheap but the keys are loud as shit and the font choice is just crap.

I was interested in the 75% version because it had the dedicated F-keys and still had arrow keys despite removing most of that cluster.
I'm pretty close to getting meme'd into buying a Saber 68, but the number row is the only row I can't blind-poke accurately, so trying to FN it for F-keys is a worry. The separations between the F-key clusters really help, so other 75% with F-keys right above the number row don't alleviate the problem.
>>
>>62282196
I just discovered a glitch in this keyboard's firmware. Apparently if you set it to rainbow fade and then switch to one of the game mode presets it changes the colors of the presets. If you do it correctly you can get colors that are not typically selectable like dark green, pink, or orange. Apparently changing the brightness reverts it back to the normal colors though.

UK and US had the best newspapers of the 1700s and 1800s
why can't we just be friends

Filco. Are they good. Gonna get majestouch2 or the Bluetooth one. Brown switches. Thoughts?

Thinking about sending back my vortex race 3 w/ mx clears and trying out a realforce 87u. What should I do?

This is factually inaccurate guy. Lookup silicon valley buddy, you're welcome for all of the world's greatest tech innovations you piece of shit.

Did you just cuck yourself you fucking retard? You know when our lord and saviour Terry Davis screams CIA nigger right? He screams at people like you.

Anyway SV wasnt shit before ~1970... The keyboard was made in the 1700's buy some britbong... Get your facts straight ameritard.

>keyboard in 1700s

Ever heard of Remington or any other typewriter? Or maybe you're to much of a manchild to accept that kind of tech?
>>
>>62287375
remington makes guns you pleb. read a book for me one time?
>>
>>62287462
fucking gook...

E. Remington and Sons (1816–1896) was a manufacturer of firearms and typewriters. Founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington in Ilion, New York, on March 1, 1873 it became known for manufacturing the first commercial typewriter.

Remington, LLC is an American manufacturer of firearms and ammunition in the United States. It was founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington in Ilion, New York, as E. Remington and Sons. Remington is America's oldest gun maker and "It's America's oldest factory that still makes its original product-guns."

I thought you said the keyboard was made in 1700s? If you're saying remington is responsible then credit to the U.S.A.

ANSI is better for programing then ISO, so it's no surprise that people who use computers to program prefer to use it.
>>
>>62287577
The british fag is still upset about getting cucked in the revolution and can't deal with the fact that his country hasn't done shit for decades
>>
>>62280918
Didn't you already ask this?

Also Magicforce with rainbow/Taihao Miami caps.

Does keycap thickness really matter if you use o-rings or don't bottom out when you type?
I know about PBT and their durability and texture over ABS, but I noticed a hardly ever bottom out while I type. Would the cap thickness even really matter in that instance? There's no sound or feel of the cap hitting the board and that's what I mostly see changes with thickness.
>>
>>62287577
ANSI enter is better but ISO left shift is superior. Life is suffering.
>>
>>62287612
Not true. They decided to become the biggest cucks in the world, and that takes skill.
>>
>>62287670
Yeah look at what happened to the british in world war 2 before we got involved. RAN OUT OF EUROPE. Sad! Always winning when the USA is involved
>>
How do you not bottom out? It is physically impossible to not bottom out unless i type extremely slow
>>
>>62287736
Excercise and lose weight. Or get a heavier switch.

Use heavier switches. My MX-Clears don't bottom out unless I use an exceptional amount of force that wouldn't be practical to type with to begin with.
>>
We need a new thread. This one hit the bump limit.
>>
>>62287957
You know you can make one right?
>>
>>62287955
Atreus or Preonic?
>>
Get the ninja version of the MJ2 if you want a keycap remover. Normal MJ2 doesn't come wi th one. I had to order one from Japan and it will take 30 days to get here. The keycaps I ordered didn't come with one either!
>>
Quick question, I know that cherry greens are pretty much just blues but stronger. Is there a switch that is basically blues but slightly weaker actuation force?

Both are memes, why do you want either?
>>
>>62288129
I want an ultra-portable meme, and I also feel like I will like the ortholinear meme.
>>
>>62288084
Buckling springs are only 10g heavier then blacks. Get a stronger switch like clears or grey
>>
>>62286802
get leopold.
>>
>>62286897
Sure, but get silence rings with it.

Just get a Planck then?
>>
>>62288288
The number row barely adds to the size, but the plank costs a lot more unless I wait for another drop which can take months or years.

Preonic is on assdrop right now, I can get it for $200 with matias switches
>>
>>62287654
ISO with big ass enter and focus layouting of the slash is the true patrician layout
>>
>>62288149
lets split, at least when you get bored of it they double as macropads.

>>62288329
If you're sure you can get used to otholinear, then I think the metal case and more keys make the Preonic a better option from a functional standpoint

>>62288417
Sure
>>
>>62288461
Quick question before I meme myself: is it possible to efficiently switch between ortholinear and traditional, or is it like switching to Colemak and will fuck up your typing on normal keyboards?

>>62288343
Is it possible to get them at a reasonable price and effort with a good case and matias switches? Though either way, in this particular case I'd prefer non-split as it makes it easier to carry around, and I want it to be portable.

American here. Having lived in the UK, I can understand why you would think that.
