My take on this is that Akira was what brought anime into the Western mainstream. Some cyberpunk points are
- high tech, after all this is in Neo Tokyo
- dystopia with bike gangs made up of low life teenagers with no hope
- thus "high tech low life"
- a weak government, somehow the military seems to have had the larger part of the running power
- some cybernetic implants used on those in "storage"
>>
>>61945588
The point of darknets are to be full of content you can't find/host on clearnet.

Zeronet's UI is fresh, sleek, and tighter than the highschool girl I lost my virginity to, but it's go absolutely no fucking content worth mentioning.

If it gets adopted, that might change. But this shit's been up for years.

should I be running ntp on an embedded linux device which is going to act as a hardware firewall or should i just remove it with all the other bloat?

doesnt seem like a bad idea, having something to ensure the time is accurate, but it would also be the only listening network service on the device besides ssh
>>

no point running ntp unless your network is synching with it

good idea anyway since itll reduce duplicate logs if your times out

is there another option to ensure its clock is kept correct? My experience with other embedded devices is that they tend to have the clock become inaccurate after being left alone for so long.

waddup /cyb/lings.
Basic gestalt on Maltego pls.
Who uses it and does it bring anything to the table that other OSINT tools dont?
Is it worth paying for a licence?
Any good sources on local transforms?
(Main interest is on OSINT for social media and bug bountying retarded websites)
>>
>>61960557
Right now it looks like it only configures/creates linux vms. Given the reception, I think it is only a matter of time until you start to see other branches on Github and elsewhere.

I am not an expert on Open Source/Proprietary licensing, but I'd expect some version to pop up eventually that configures versions of Windows and other operating systems.

I want to build config scripts that automate user actions within a pentest lab. Much of what we do when attacking a network is based on creating capital from 's mistakes/ignorance.

This is especial;y relevant where exploitation via social engineering/client side vectors/exploits.

The OSCP lab configuration generates/simulates many variety of I/O and actions that could/would be common to users within an enterprise network.

I here Ravello cloud based pentest lab services offered by Oracle can do the same, but I have never used it.

I'm sure these actions could be scripted/programmed easy enough (by better programmers then myself)via scheduled tasks/cron jobs/scripting language variables, etc...

I think if someone combined a program like that with a program like SecGen (with some addition of WIndows boxes and other OS like BSD and Solaris) that it would be one hell of an achievement (which SecGen is all on its own in my opinion).

>>61961210
Glad you agree..I think this project has legs and is going to develop into some very interesting projects...especially when combined with a program like Proxmox which somewhat simplifies constructing a domain for lab use (though that simplification does blunt a potential learning opportunity somewhat).
>>
>>61961480
Maltego is a multifaceted tool...for example, it can be a great visualization tool for people just starting out who may not be familiar with things such as network topographies (though this is just scratching the surface of its use).

I have used it sometimes for external tests where I am looking to gain ingress. Maltego could be a valuable asset for planning social engineering for ingress.

Once you've gained entry, I might be concerned about the noise factor of it...this may be unfounded on my part, as I haven't looked at Maltego's traffic carefully in WIreshark while running all of it's configs/options, but it strikes me as being loud (though perhaps you could tunnel the traffic out or mask it).

Like any tool, it's how you develop efficiency/effectiveness in using the information. Data mining and data point collection/aggregation can be awesome, but you could also be presented with so much data that you loss sight of important clues/advantages.

I am not a huge fan of licenses for pentesting tools...my predecessor at my current job convinced the company to purchase tens of thousands of dollars worth of licenses...some of them are so stupidly expensive (like Nexpose) and all of them other than Burp and Nessus (which I need for certain projects due to number of IP, certification standards, etc).collecting dust because I do not like the level of automation many licenses provide...

I think much of hacking/pentesting is feeling your way home in the pitch black....if there is too much going on, you can't focus on the shapes and sounds of your environment to find your way.

Also, heavily automated tools tend to be extremely loud.
>>
>>61961791

Thnx anon,
yeah it is clearly very noisy as far as the Paterva transforms go and I haven't wiresharked it's traffic either. Local transforms look promising but I've only found 2 or 3 on Github so far.

It can do some lightning quick pivots through data - my hope was that there is a bit of a community out there cooking up fresh transforms regularly but desu it looks like its not getting much love or interest.
>>
>>61961480
Im interested in this too. I have not used maltego myself, because it never fucking runs on my box
>>
>>61961565
>Proxmox
Is this an esxi alternative?
>>
>>61962030
Shit anon...no, thank you.

When you mentioned the local transforms I went back to look at Maltego's current documentation.

Maltego has always been a beast where OSINT is concerned and invaluable for development of social engineering campaigns (especially in spearfishing campaigns), but there has been so many more added since I last looked...

I'm definitely going to keep up its documentation/development now though.
>>
>>61962338
Pretty much...maybe a little closer to vSphere, (since most of Proxmox's utility comes from easier creation/config/deployment of network resources).

Though admittedly I haven't really undertaken many network configuration projects with vmWare products because I prefer open source when possible.

I am new to Proxmox, but from what I see, I like so far (they state that their version of virtmanager is also opensource),]

https://www.proxmox.com/en/proxmox-ve
>>
>>61962480
Cool man I'll dig into it. Cheers, first I've heard of it eh
>>
>>61962346
>When you mentioned the local transforms I went back to look at Maltego's current documentation.

Yeah there are some good transforms, of course most of them need either paying for or signing up to API's so still not great from that angle.

I'm going to play around with it a bit more too, definitely staying with community edition for now.

Did you find any local transforms that are particularly interesting?

I think a good thing would be a local transform on some dumps (ashley madison, etc) it looks like they would be very easy to code up and bolt onto some social transforms?

Well, if we were to believe newspapers the pedos are the true technological overlords, capable of connecting to mysterious nets using a piece of string and some putty, sitting in badly lit basements wearing hoodies and shades and typing using mittens using a green on black terminal with rather limited capacity for displaying images.

Personally I prefer amber text on red background. This avoids sleep pattern disturbing blue components while avoiding excessive contrasts. Supposedly the red end of the spectrum is good for maintaining good night vision but it is a while since that was a primary consideration.

With age proteins aggregate in the lens of your eyes, causing preferential scattering of blue light which in turn reduces contrast and causes strain. Red/amber does not have this problem.

On a tangent: I have always wondered why wrist watches do not account for this aspect when they make wrist torches like pic. related. Also car makes dabbling in blue backlighting should be jailed along with the dieselgate dudes.

>CRISPR FANS DREAM OF A POPULIST FUTURE FOR GENE EDITING
https://www.wired.com/story/crispr-fans-dream-of-a-populist-future-for-gene-editing/
>On Wednesday and Thursday, the University of California, Berkeley welcomed about 300 people—scientists, CEOs, farmers, regulators, conservationists, and interested citizens—to its campus to take a hard look at the wünderenzyme known as Cas9.

Wired, being Wired, also has a lot of focus on
>an environmental justice warrior
and
>Shakir Cannon, founder of the Minority Coalition for Precision Medicine, pointed out the myriad ways doctors and researchers have exploited people of color in the name of scientific advancement, while neglecting diseases that hit underserved communities the hardest.

Preaching to the choir m80. I gotta do my job though and the aforementioned AV compliance requirements/RMO nazi make it what it is. I scheduled a call with a Sophos rep. Thanks!

I wonder the same.

Wired used to be pretty good, now they have descended into la-la-land. Quality has plummeted. Front page is a zoo of click bait headings. Articles are too often mind blowing obviousness dressed up as "interesting".

I think we are 2 or 3 anons posting /cyb/ news and I usually find BBC a batter source. The fact that they often link using DOI references indicates to me that they have in fact an idea about what they are writing about.

Anyone read 6-Commando?

I'd like your inputs if it can be included in the FAQ as military cyberpunk. The story starts out as military action drama but then our friend Mike appears, so to speak.

Every time you make something partisan, it loses quality.
Reporting should be as objective as possible, unless otherwise stipulated as an opinion piece.
>>
>>61968488
I quite agree. BBC is fairly objective though there are subtle details in the British way of speaking English. Here they are reporting on the backlash: http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-40974069

My mom was a newspaper editor, and her take was that reporters can never be truly subjective (in that worldview will always play some part in your creation of content)
She always strove to be as objective as possible and searched for news that reported with that objective in mind, but would also accept news organizations that were plain and up front about their bias
Her take was to get multiple perspectives on the same event/subject from contrasting worldviews and use your critical thinking skills to come to your own conclusion
Problem is that what we are witnessing is the blatant partisan bias by reporters introduced with the expectation it be accepted as objective; too much parroting of that bias by other organizations; and a complete removal of the idea of conversation/watering down of content due to there being SO MUCH of it and the desire for clicks over dedicated readership

I was planning to put in the FTP site but it appears the password is not valid. If it returns I'll upload it there too for easy viewing.

Nearly all pieces are in place, just minor editing and checking before it is good to go.

No, not at all.

The FTP site is not mine, it was introduced here in /g/ on a separate thread with a request to fill it up. So I made a Cyberpunk directory and loaded it up with a lot of stuff I have collected over the years.

If however you have a public rsynch server you wish to share I'd be happy to give it a spin.

science has fucking perfected the ideal chow diet for mice, rats, monkeys, you NAME it, the animals live a long healthy disease-free life, while humans struggle every day to find a balanced diet and still get a heart-attack or stroke at age 60. Half our species is overweight due to bad nutrition

I'm still fairly early in my career. In my spare time I'm doing a bit of everything, play with Linux as a server/Desktop, code for Android/iPhone (nothing serious yet).

Cyber Security sounds an interesting choice and I'm prepared to give it 18-24 months to try it out. If I don't enjoy it, the company is willing to let me change role if I discover something I'm more interested in.

I was wondering, is there a way to fool those ankle bracelets criminals wear? I'm sure putting a Faraday cage around it somehow would block the signals but if they got no signals they'd be suspicious.

>inb4 tyrone
>>
>>61973798
replicate the bracelets signal with a pi or some other machine then block your own as you turn the replica on.
>>
>>61973798
Reverse engineer the software, find what signal it's sending out, then do >>61973842

I'd recommend switching the signals programmatically so there's no blanks and doing it only when they'll think you should be at home/no mobile.

>An ankle monitor (also known as a tether, or ankle bracelet) is a homing device that defendants under house arrest or parole are required to wear. At all times, the ankle monitor sends a radio frequency signal containing location and other information to a receiver. If an offender moves outside of an allowed range, the police will be notified. Ankle monitors are designed to be tamper-resistant and can alert authorities to removal attempts, such as cutting the band causing a circuit break.

>The most common configuration is a radio-frequency transmitter unit that sends a signal to a fixed location receiving unit in the offender's residence. The residence unit uses either a land line or a cellular network to send information to a service center computer. If the offender is not at their residence at all times, an alert message is sent to the service center, and then sent to the supervising probation or parole officer. GPS units are similar in design, but the offender also carries a GPS cell phone unit that receives a signal from the ankle unit, or both functions may be combined into one ankle unit. Persons subject to a restraining order may also be subject to GPS monitoring.[1][2]

This is child's play. I was thinking if they had the budget they could do statistical analysis and cross-reference GPS signal with known contraband areas, but this is just a radio transponder.
