Rate my newest purchase: the logitech G413 with the Romer-G switches.

I've always loved the mechanical switch design BUT i never liked the old IBM/Win98 keyboard caps design with narrow mini surfaces. I used to own pic related and loved the typing surface and travel distance/actuation of the scissors but absolutely hate the reliability.

Question is simple, is there something that features large typing surface but instead of scissors key it's a mech ? Billion thanks in advance. Using a MS sculpt mobile now and i love the flat surface but it's bt based connection.

I've got the G810 with the Romer switches and I love it. The keys feels nice to press, there's very little gamer stuff and the RGB stuff is pretty nice to tune and fuck around with. Only thing I don't like is the lack of a wrist rest, am still trying to find a comfortable position for my wrists when typing with it.

That being said I tried a Corsair K70 the other week with Cherry Reds and really liked it to the point where I was on the verge of getting one but I just can't see the point if I already enjoy using my G810

>unreplacable
But they are replaceable.
I got a whole pack of replacement caps with my G413 along with a little tool for removing them.

As for the ABS plastic thing, I'm coming from a Model M which is PBT, and the feel is very similar to me.
The feel of the keys was one of the first things I noticed.
Logitech's ABS keys feel nothing like the rubber-dome keyboards I have laying around.

Maybe this is just a coating that will wear off, but as you can tell from pic, the caps are very simple in construction, so I'm sure custom caps will come along at some point.
Right?
>>
>>61790810
Actually newer to mechanical keyboards myself, I've always been rough on keyboards and eventually wear down the rubber domes constantly. I was wondering how well they last, and which switchtype to invest in?
>>
>>61802445
The beauty of mechanical switches is that they tend to last forever. Notice how many people in this community use IBM boards from decades ago.

I suggest Gateron Brown switches.
>>
How hard is it to desolder a board and do I need any special equipment?

I want to get a Minila Air, but red switches are all that's available here and I wanna swap them for silent blacks since it's gonna be portable and all.
>>
>>61802103
>Right?
Wrong. The market of people who both buy logitech keyboards AND buy aftermarket keycaps is small enough that nobody will ever bother.

The construction isn't revolutionary in its simplicity, compared to e.g. cherry caps, and molds cost dozens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.
>>
>>61802103
Alps caps are just as simple and do you see them anywhere?

People make Cherry caps mostly because that's where the money is (Which prompts more people to buy Cherry-stem keyboards, which feeds demand for Cherry-stem keycaps, etc, etc).

Is this enjoypbt or kdbfans?

So what's the fun of those smol keyboars like Happy Hacking, tada68 or KBD75? I can understand the mobility but for permanent use wouldn't it be better if you didn't have to press a modifier to access omitted keys?..

Most of the omitted keys are ones which I rarely use, and the Tada is programmable anyway so I was able to swap out a few of the lost ones in place of things like pgup/dwn, the right ctrl, etc.

I think you'll have to indicate it with some arrows or something, but here's the whole thing. The red drawers are mostly screws, bottom right is random ICs and other random components. The stuff in the middle is a shitton of random stuff. There's motors that run straight off 230v AC, lenses, various connectors and I don't know what.
Bottom left is a bunch of resistors and the stuff I already mentioned.

>>61803833
The stuff in the drawers, about two hours, though there was also a lot of other stuff that's not in those that I collected at the time. How long it took the guy to whom it previously belonged to to collect all that stuff, I have no idea, presumably most of his career.

All the other stuff on and under my desk has piled up over the past two and a half years or so. The top of the desk is just the tip of the iceberg really, there's a ridiculous amount of trash under the desk.

I post keyboard in keyboard thread. How varied of motivation could I be? Why does anyone post a keyboard in a keyboard thread? Pride or critical solicitation.

Why don't people complain about any other individual who posts the same keyboard more than once ever? I've seen about 1/4 the keyboards in this thread before and greater than 3/4 of the ones in the last thread. Is there something about my images that makes them more memorable or recognizable? Seems a bit unfair to single me out imo.

Making a quasi-frame and stand for that monitor on the left, so that I can mount it in a vertical position and use it as my secondary once I move out. Other than that, a desk, larger than my current desk and with a rack of shelves so I can store all those drawers and whatever other tools I'll end up with. Furthermore, finishing that variable voltage power supply (accidentally got the wrong value potentiometer, now I have to wait for a 20k pot from china to arrive), and finding out what's wrong with that HDMI switch (it works fine, but gets powered from the connected devices rather than through the power cable, so that needs fixing). A motorized camera slider for a friend, and a really basic delay circuit for another friend.
My multimeter got fried recently (see that PCB with a battery attached to it), so I can't do much with electronics until I get a new one.

Also going to make a miniature groupbuy for really cheap numpads that I'll manufacture myself, but that's on hold for now as I'm too busy with all of the aforementioned.

No one is forced to view or reply to any of my on topic posts. In fact, since people keep saying I post the same keyboard on the same desk every time, it should be eminently obvious from the thumbnail which posts are mine and therefore easier than most to ignore. I cut the PCB of the magicforce to shreds with a dremel, then I handwired the whole thing. Also turned an AEK II into a 60% with a case that I made from a solid block of wood. And I made a numpad to go with my tada68. My latest attempts in keyboard diy was 3D printing a whole keyboard (e.g. case and plate), which worked fine more or less, but the project is currently stuck in "I'll get to that when I'm done with all these other projects that I've been drowning myself in" limbo.

What a strange Japanese keyboard layout. While some characters are in the correct position, others are not. In Japan, they use ISO keyboards and hiragana is laid out differently. Also, the position of +, -, | etc and corresponding hiragana are all "wrong."

Just looked up the source, enjoypbt, and it looks like something that someone came up to distribute hiragana onto an ANSI board.

What's funny is that once you learn japanese, you don't even use kana input. But the legends do look nice.

Anyway, an interesting keyboad layout.

My desoldering pump wasn't working properly, and I ended up with some pads getting ripped off. I could've probably fixed it just by checking how the PCB is layed out and with some wires, but I didn't have the experience I have now, not to mention I wanted to desolder all the switches, which would've probably resulted in more fucked pads. So I took a blade that spins at 35K RPM and did what I had to do.

The Pi needs around 2A though, and the HHKB already tortures 500mA USB ports. You'd be forced to use it only with high current ports.
>>
>>61808588
why does the hhkb use so much current, is it a capacitive thing?
>>
>>61808762
Capacitive boards are more power hungry than contact types (like 200mA for the HHKB vs 10mA for a Poker). A lot of the draw from the HHKB is caused by the hub in it, though. If you stick it on a high current port it'll draw upwards of 800mA.

Yeah it's actually easier to use romaji input on an English-language keyboard. There's quite literally zero reason for a dedicated physical Japanese layout.

I'm guessing that's an ironic post considering the fuck-huge collection of guns you have. Seriously though, if you're so into mechanical keyboards that you incessantly post on /mkg/, then there's a whole world out there to explore, just like with guns. Just take the fucking leap, you faggot.

That said it's always the same pics so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a ton of people pretending to be the same guy to shit up the general

Why did I fall for the SA meme? Sure, they may look pretty and feel sturdy when you first put your fingers on them, but the high curve means that any wobble will be amplified by an off-center keypress. They also just feel... slick. I'm not usually a greasy person but damn.

Gave them a week grace period but still not used to it. Keep your eye on mechmarket if you still want a set, or maybe I could hold on to them and see if the price goes up?
>>
>>61815392
>Why did I fall for the SA meme?
Because spherical keycaps are very aesthetically pleasing.
>>
The gateron switches are just as good as cherry right?

Gateron Brown is widely considered miles better than MX Brown.
The rest is more debatable, especially the Gateron Blue, though most people appreciate the extra smoothness.
