I wish I could like the explorer but the new typeface for the numbers is strange to me. And 1016's are too high in price for what they are and would buy something like a JLC with that money.

I would like to get a Seiko SKX007 but I want to change the Hands and maybe the dial.
Is that complicated or can i do this without any experience?
>>
>>61728622
They really are.. I totally get that the movements are great and the finishing is great but they have no appeal to me whatsoever.
>>
>>61728767
You need tweezers and a toothpick and a hand puller and steady hands. But I wouldn't just open up iso certified dive watches for no reason....
>>

The reason is to change what the watch looks like

What i mean is You don't need to open it you just want to open it.. so why not just buy a cheaper seiko with a better movement? Get a 4r36 seiko 5 sport and change the dial and hands.. why the fuck would you specifically pay more for an iso certified dive watch open and possibly compromise its water resistance to change everything about it?

Got a new servicing job. A digital Sicura, prob. from the 70's. Despite Sicura being the current Breitling, this watch runs on a shitty pin-pallet Baumgartner (BFG) 866. Customer says he's okay with a daily rate of +/-1min
>>
>>61729140
Not going to lie, that looks pretty cool. Is the center hand running seconds?
>>
>>61729197
Yeah it is, and also the minute disk, while hour and day are jumping. The whole dial-side mechanism is probably similar to a Ruhla Digital.

It looks cool, and BFG were capable of almost Swiss lever-escapement quality pin-pallet movements, but the interior is still kinda shit.

My Helbros Invincible, a classic, quintessentially German piece of horological history. Apart from the Swiss AS 1931 movement, of course.

It's fucking hot as hell here, 30°C indoors, so no leather nor Casio plastic straps for a while now. Also I think I'm wearing it one hole too tight.

Eh boss has a samurai, didn't want to copy.

Big fan of the turtle and the PADI came first. I gave my dad my SKX007 and wanted a black on black turtle to replace it. While I'm glad my dad loves his first automatic watch, I miss my skx like crazy. The SRP777 is an inferior styled watch to the SKX007 imo.

It's probably bent, it used to be common to have the hands bend down a bit at the end to make it easier to read the time exactly, especially with domed crystals that can distort your view at an angle. Like the minute and second hands in pic related, which coincidentally has an even lower beatrate than my SARB and your SNK so it must be really shit.

I like how barebones basic early LCD watches are, it doesn't really show more than an analog three-hander. Even the F-91W can be considered analogous to something like a day-date Seiko 5.

Pic related, an other model I'd like to find, the F-15.

Just got an Orient Blue Ray I. I know the II is technically superior, but I liked the extra crown on the first version. Makes it less boring.
>>
>>61735407
Good man.

A lot of people do enjoy the I over the II for the same reason. Orient ditching the 2 o clock pusher was a mistake.
I mean, it's more practical to have the function of changing dates performed by the crown, rather than a separate pusher, but at the same time it does add a little something to the design to have it there.
>>
tfw want to get pic related but can't justify it in any way, I only swim in summer and only 2 meter deep maximum.

I didn't realize I had to spell it out for you. By name dropping a random shop I'm telling you that the claim they are $400 from a reputable shop only is ridiculous. Watch Unique is a reputable shop with a way lower price. I own one from there.

Why do you need an original? You realize that the ones from LongIslandWatch which do sell for $400 are not originals... Event though they are 19 zuan instead of 21 they are still remakes. The crown does not have a seagull logo and therefor is not actually made by seagull since they are long discontinued.

I suppose? They allow you to know the time if you're blind or if it's dark. There are also dumb repeaters (this isn't one) that vibrate the case but don't make any noise, to allow you to unobtrusively check the time. And do course, like a lot of watch complications these days, one of it's major purposes is to be a watch complication.

Where do I start? A little bit of story time.

So I've lurked a bit here because I'm slowly getting more into watches and shit. The thing is I've never actually owned one.
The first one I bought myself was a 20 bucks Casio watch from amazon but it looked terrible on my rather thick wrist so I ditched it (although looking at it every other day admiring the retro style).
The next one I got was the one from my grandpa who passed away earlier this year. Nothing expensive though, I think it's a 50 bucks Aldi or Lidl divers watch, no name basically. But I kept it for the emotional value and I wore it from time to time although it looks rather hideous because it's rather old and he didn't take too much care of it.

Then I was gifted a fossil which I thought looked actually rather neat but lurking hear taught me not to be a fashion brand influenced fuck.
(Still wearing it though because I got nothing else).

And here I am with basically nothing.
So then I lurked a bit more and was introduced to Seiko and I fell in love with the SKX007 and as I kept hearing it's supposed to be a great watch for the price. Since I don't want to spend thousands of bucks on my first few watches I thought it's a great deal for me.

However then I've read about all the different types and when to wear them to what occasion and cloth and I was a bit confused. Can't people just wear what they want when they want? I mean of course a g shock does look a bit odd in my taste and I wouldn't probably wear it on a tux.. but I don't know who am I to judge.

So yeah can you guys recommend me how to start, what should I know - all the essentials basically. For example how and when did you start?
Do you have watches for every occasion, what's the maximum ammount you would ever spend.
I know that's a lot of questions but I'm really starting to get interested in both watches in general and well.. you guys as a community as a whole

Generally asking.
Are you all wealthy and shit or do you have to consider saving money for a more expensive watch?
I mean right now as a student I could never imagine myself holding a Rolex in my hands.
But since I don't want to have kids anyways I wondered if instead of kids cloth I could buy me some neat watches instead.
I know it sounds a bit autistic but I'm a bit concerned about my future I don't know man
>>
>>61740242
The beauty of watches is that it attracts people of all levels of wealth. So don't feel outclassed or whatever by people showing off a nice Rolex, because you can still get a quality watch for not so much. But yeah if you're not going to have kids you'll probably have a lot more money to spend on watches and such.
>>
>>61740280
That's pretty comforting.
So are people generally less comparing about brands than about the quality or sheer interest in watches?
I mean I always had the rolex wearing Snob guy bragging about everything in mind.
I can't really believe he'd genuinely approve of my 200 Seiko watch from amazon
>>
>>61740302
Snobby people are in every hobby and it's best to ignore them. Any watch enthusiast should recognize Seiko as a quality brand with tons of offerings and spark up a conversation about it.
>>
>>61740302
I'm sure there are some jerks out there who might look down on you, but they aren't as much into watches as plain jerks. There are plenty of people who have Rolexs as well as Seikos and are happy to talk about both.
I'm also a student, and just from seeing a sarb017 or a tossit thickodate on another guy's wrist, we have gotten to know each other, mostly talking about watches.
I'll probably never be rich per say, but could definitely see myself working an extra year or two towards the end of my career just to buy a crazy Lange. I hope to pick up a Rolex during or after grad school, depending on when it makes financial sense.

This Straps Co. strap just came in and the white line is slightly off-center. Did they fuck up or is this some /fa/ meme?

How are Zulu/NATO straps manufactured?

We haven't even come to accept quartz watches yet, we're still good number of decades away from having a positive opinion on smart watches here.

What did Pebble do for you that current smartwatches don't, and why not just buy an old Pebble on eBay or whatever?

I'll just leave this here, when it comes to timing things,a digital chronograph is superior to a analog one.
Don't really understand why people get a analog chronograph when they need to time things for their work etc.

I like the combination of class and tool watch design in this, the dial makes it stand out from the crowd and the elegant case finishing solidifies the timepiece's position in the dress watch section. What a treat!

Sevenfriday P3/03 https://imgur.com/a/nO3wa

This is my third automatic watch after my old Seiko 5 and Sturmanskie Open Space (which I'll post about someday). There was a time when I really wanted a Sevenfriday, and it was a toss between P3/01 and P3/03.

I ended up with the P3/03 because I really liked the color scheme of white/gray/orange, and the strap looks so good. It even came with wrist size indicator to give it that industrial feel.

The dial seems a bit complicated at first, but after a while its not hard to tell the time quickly. I've had quite a number of curious people asking me how it works though.

It's not exactly cheap at USD1244 (website price), so it's not something I'd recommend for a first mechanical watch.

If you like a reliable mechanical watch that has that rugged industrial look, decent build quality and gets a lot of attention (without hurting your eyes), just give Sevenfriday a look.

Heck, even the packing box is wooden crate. Now that's industrial.

Like the watch would be closest to my hand and the miband next to it.
Or should I just wear the miband on my right wrist?

Probably. It's pretty bad actually, on mobile if you're on that site for more than a few minutes clicking around suddenly you're sent to some shady site that doesn't let you go back unless you close the entire tab.

It's been doing it for a long time. Happens to me on every mobile device I have used to browse their site, including tablets

Is the NH35A the same as a 6R15? Trying put a 6R15 in an skx013 and it might be easier for me to just buy an invicta for their movement.

he's talking about spron, which is Seiko's proprietary spring materials.

Seiko hasn't released spron610 information afaik, which is what they use in grand seiko and the like.

The clasp on the steel bracelet it came with kept opening while I was running or working on things, so I had it on some kind of rubber WalMart band for a while, but I didn't like the black band with the navy blue and stainless watch.
