How can you be positive that some random app from google play or fdroid won't be programmed to download and install something malicious? I'm more worried about things from the play store really. Is everything there clean? No. Just did a quick search, there have been tons of cases of apps in the play store being malicious.

Isn't noise reduction just the fucking worst? The photos which my new Redmi Note 4X produce are significantly worse than my 3 year old 1+1, despite the 4X having a much newer and presumably more sophisticated 13MP sensor, because all the photos it produces are smeared to fuck with disgusting noise reduction, which is basically like taking the file to photoshop and defacing it with the smudge tool. On my 1+1 with Snapdragon Camera I could disable noise reduction but not here.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>61397745
Well newer phones have the 835, so don't know how the 820 is holding up nowadays (and if it will be good for Daydream)
I'm looking at it because you can unlock the bootloader, and after a year I can throw LineageOS on it.

Does anyone know more info on the DAC quality or if it has an amp?
>>
snapdragon 625 phones should have better DAC/amp quality than my old snapdragon 800 phone right?
>>
>>61398016
>>61398023
Don't be a retard and give apps permissions they don't need and you'll be safe from 99% of android malware. That setting isn't going to stop malicious apps because they don't need to install APKs to function.

A recent example:
https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3013599/leaklocker-android-ransomware-threatens-to-dox-victims-with-private-data

>McAfee uncovered the LeakerLocker threat, which it has found lurking in two apps in the Google Play Store, 'Wallpapers Blur HD' and 'Booster & Cleaner Pro', both of which have been well-rated and appear to have been downloaded thousands of times.

>LeakerLocker locks the home screen and accesses private information in the background thanks to its victims granting permissions at installation time

I've had "allow unknown sources" on literally every android phone I've owned since 2011 and I've never gotten malware on my phone. Is it because I've been lucky, or simply because I'm not a retard?
>>
>>61392491

>>61398210

>>
>>61398256
No, not every phone with an 820 has a DAC, only phones advertised with a "dedicated audio chip", or Hi-Fi sound have DACs, the LG G6 has an SD821 and the NA variants don't have a DAC, the G5 didn't have a DAC either

>>61398283
The phone would be incapable of outputting audio if it didn't have a DAC. I think what you mean to say is that unless explicitly advertised, a phone will only use Qualcomm's integrated DAC of middling quality rather than a third party DAC from a company like Cirrus Logic or Wolfson.

Is the "Samsung phones get laggy in a year or two" meme still true? Some anon in another thread said his S7 was lagging and stuttering badly.
My three year old Sony Z2 is still completely lag free and smooth, but the headphone jack and the earpiece stopped working so I'm looking to upgrade, but I don't want to buy Sony again, and the LG G6 is last gen with a pathetic 1/3" camera sensor.
>>
>>61403185
Yes. Even the s8 has some noticeable lagg. Although i believe that the s7 actually has official lineage os support. So this anon could try lineage os if he wants to. Why no Sony again? They still make good phones IMO. You could also look into HTC phones.

Nothing has changed

https://www.sammobile.com/2017/06/27/samsung-ui-fluidity-problem-needs-fixing

>Of all the current generation high-end phones that I have used (and I’ve used most of them), the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have the worst performance when it comes to scrolling and smoothness of UI. Even though the LG G6 and the Google Pixel have the previous-generation Snapdragon 821 processor, they fare better in this regard. Much cheaper phones from Xiaomi have a smoother UI as well.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/04/samsung-galaxy-s8-review-shiny-new-hardware-meets-old-software-habits/5/#h2

>Actual in-app performance on the Galaxy S8 is not great. The Google Pixel raised the bar for what smooth Android performance looks like, and the Galaxy S8 just can't keep up. In the above picture you see Android's built-in GPU profiler mode. Each vertical line is the time it takes to draw a single frame, with the horizontal green bar representing 60FPS. Bars under the green line rendered in time, resulting in smooth 60FPS scrolling. Bars that overshoot the line took too long to render, resulting in a stutter in the UI animation.

>Even in the lowest resolution possible—1480×720—the Galaxy S8 still drops a ton of frames when scrolling complicated apps like the Play Store. The highly optimized Google Pixel—at its full 2560×1440 resolution—is easily getting frames in on time. And even if things do slow down, there's a sizable amount of render time still.

>No matter what resolution you pick on the Galaxy S8, scrolling (especially scrolling slowly) has this weird stutter to it and a slight ghosting effect. Not everyone is sensitive to small performance issue like this, but if you are, you'll find the S8 a little unpleasant to use. I wish Samsung focused more on optimizing the whole display and GPU stack to hit 60FPS and run more smoothly, rather than adopting the raw benchmark focus the company seems to have now.

Not him, but for what I've seen >>61403803
the issue with the G6 is its processor being one generation older than basically any other flagship today. Also, it came out at the same time as the GS8, which has more eye catching features than the G6 (better screen, better CPU, better camera) beating it on every single strength point, especially the screen. Also, LG sold the good version of the G6, the one with good DAC, only on the Asian market. Moreover they used various versions of the gorilla glass in a very questionable way (GG3 on the screen, GG4 on the cameras, GG5 on the back), which is a weird corner cutting design choice. Combine all of the above and you can see why it isn't a very popular phone and why it will hardly be suggested.

Personally I find it an extremely interesting phone, and it's probably better than the S8 especially on the software and durability sides, but I feel that this whole generation of smartphone is the necessary flawed link between the old regular smartphones and the future all-screen ones.

By the way, at the end of August LG will release the LG Q6, which is basically a midrange LG G6: with the 400€ G6 street price, I suspect the Q6 will be a consumer bait made to boost the G6 sales, pretty much like the plastic iPhone (was it the 5c? Can't remember), however if I'm wrong, i.e. its retail price will be around 250€, the Q6 might be the next big thing of the industry.
>>
I use Lineage + Magisk and finally got SafetyNet to work for long enough to get Android Pay set up.
The problem is that ctsProfile mismatch happens sometimes, i.e. SafetyNet check doesn't always pass.

Am I going to have problems with Android Pay because of this? Or do they only check SafetyNet once during initial setup and then never again?

Android Pay hasn't given me any errors yet, but it would really suck if it does when I'm at checkout and without my card at hand.
>>

>>

>>
>>61404520
There's literally nothing wrong with the G6 or the SD821, the 821 in particular has not been matched performance wise by a mid-range SoC unlike the 810, and what difference does it make when the S8/+ can't even scroll through it's own menus without lagging even with the newest chipset? The G6 doesn't have that issue, and its a marvel especially being able to fit a 5.7" screen in the body of a phone that usually sports a 5.2" screen, and at least with a good IPS it won't suffer from burn-in like AMOLED phones

Also the Q6 lineup will be trash just like the K series lineup they offered from last year, LG makes shit mid-range devices and always have

My uncle which is a tech illiterate found a motog 4plus a couple of months ago and he just gave it to me.

>>
>>61404520
Q6 is cool with that screen tech at a budget price, but good fucking lord the 2017 hardware ecosystem is a wasteland. I can live without the fingerprint scanner. But at the 200-250 price range everyone and I mean EVERYONE needs to default to the 625-630 tier chipsets, the 430-435 is way too underpowered at that price for me considering what Xiaomi and Huawei are offering at the same price. And I lied, it needs a fingerprint scanner, what the hell LG even the shit tier K10 2017 has one.

I've been having a small dilemma between two phones.

I've been recommended the G5 in >>61395876
and the Nokia 6 in >>61395913. However, after seeing the online options, I've opted for the G5.

However, at the same time, I've come across the Samsung S6 which seems to be superior to the G5 in pretty much everything except its battery, but comes much cheaper at approximately 215 CAD. The G5 I've found rounds up to 270 CAD after shipping fees. Is there any reason I shouldn't go for the Samsung?

S6 I've found: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/UNLOCKED-Samsung-Galaxy-S6-G920-Fido-Bell-Rogers-Telus-Warranty-/332296029181?var=&hash=item4d5e6303fd:m:mzJGfXJ0w_j88f0-DYfT02g

>and what difference does it make when the S8/+ can't even scroll through it's own menus without lagging even with the newest chipset?
I share your opinion on the subject, however what I was trying to say is that those are the reasons why the G6 saw a very limited success on a commercial level. How good and light and usable is a software is rarely considered by the large public, how long the screen will be able to give the same day one performance isn't even remotely considered by your average Joe, because marketing wise screen, processor, and camera are the main sale points of a product.

On the Q6 I have some hopes, so I think that unless they fuck up completely the price, it will still be an interesting phone regardless of the processor. Nokia 6 has the same processor and everyone praises it.

>>61404870
Nokia 6 is in the same boat for me. Gorgeous piece of hardware with a lot of positives, and then it douses itself with gasoline and lights itself on fire with that SoC. I can run most games on my Honor 7 lite almost perfectly, it never heats up or slowsdown after extend periods of use and had excellent preformance all around for a sub 200 euro phone, the other brands should be on par, especially by Septmber their midrangers will have to go against a near 200 euro P10 Lite, which is an even better phone then the monster that was the P9 Lite.
>>
>>61405209
For me smartphones have lost all their gaming potential and appeal as mobile platforms, so I'm perfectly happy to trade power for design and build quality, since for average chatting and browsing SoC like the SD430/435 are perfectly capable of delivering the necessary performance, after all as Samsung has been showing for years now, you can have a Ford F150 Raptor, but if it has to tow the Empire State Building, it will be as slow as an hatchback towing a small caravan.
>>
>>61405047
They both have their pros

A3 has water resistance and a compact 4.7" AMOLED display, NFC and USB C.

G5 has stock Android, a removable battery, 1080p display and 1GB more RAM.
>>
>>61405340
Fair enough, I get that its the truth for most people, its just as an enthusiast it dissapoints me that this year its the defacto go to SoC after 2016 delivered with great value for money from everyone bar LG. At the very least the 2017 J7 is looking fantastic, and the Xiaomi Note 5 is going balls put ditching the X series mediatek SoCs from the start. Only issue is they opened a Greek branch and the mark up is gonna be stupidly high compared to other countries.

Looking at the Axon 7
The Axon 8 should be coming out soon, but it seems like the only difference is a better camera, and more storage. Essentially the same chip, screen, battery, and probably DAC.

Should I wait for it to be announced? I really want a new phone
>>
>>61406361
I would because it's all speculation at this point until ZTE does the full launch
>>
Guys, do the Redmi chinkphones last? They look great but I don't want a phone after a year will stop charging or lose signal or just die
>>
>>61406209
You need an account for that.
>>
My phone died. 200€ Spain. I only watch some videos and surf on internet so i don't need something spectacular. I've seen the Xiaomi Redmi 4X but i'm open to everything, i'm looking for opinions.
>>
>>61394417
id get the v20, throw a expanded battery on the back and you're good to go. I can't see the v30 having anything thats worth upgrading

Redmi Note 4 Global
>>
>>61406415
FUCK man I'm literally about to go buy this phone today.
What I'm telling myself is that the A7 already has a great dev community, that will for sure continue to grow. There could be a flaw or something in the Axon 8, or maybe the dev community doesn't pick up on it.
>>
Is there that much of a difference in the Snapdragon 821 and the 820?
>>
>>61407069
The V20 expanded batteries are absolute shit.
They work but none have a good design.
>>
>>61407070
Didn't see that, thanks

My note 4 just had a hammer dropped on it (literally) and now the screen and typing on it are shot. Best replacement under $200?

Shit forgot att and us btw

No, SD821 is basically a higher clocked SD820

They're durable, come up with decent OS updates and last a long time if you take care of it.

Mine is still working despite me dropping it until everything is cracked and bent,

Oh. So nothing serious. I was getting worried.
I ordered a OnePlus 5 as well. It ships on Thursday and should (hopefully) arrive on Friday. That's why I asked.

>g3 breaks

How did I do /spg/?

Everything is beautiful about it, except the fact that it's like $650.
>>
>>61410529
How do you like your V20 so far?
It's better than the s8+, and the V30 is going to suck dick, so good phone.
But it's only $400 online, unlocked right now, so buying it carrier was probably a more expensive decision

Not sure how it is in America but here in EU most often it's cheaper to get a prepaid and buy a phone separately.
You'd think a two year contract with a phone would be cheaper but it isn't.

I can't believe how bad post processing is on most phones.

This is out of a phone camera, RAW with only slight sharpening and white balancing done directly on the phone.

iPhone 7 Plus or Pixel XL

I've never owned an iPhone before but the fact they get supported for years interests me, it's just a shame any phone with a decent memory size costs a fortune.

The Pixel looks like one of the best android phones out at the minute, in my opinion. The only main flaw for me is that the price is massively overinflated to try and compete with the iPhone. If it wasn't so overpriced and priced sensibly I'd already own it. The prices for larger memory are also ridiculous like iPhones
>>
>>61410748
I like it a lot so far, good features, the amp is nice and the size is great. Battery life is plenty to get me through the day too using Bluetooth a bunch.

>>61410751
>>61410895
I'm still on the family plan with my mother so sprint is fine for me, since it's free. Just gotta send her the monthly payments.
>>
>>61411802
I have the S5 but I've also had it for almost 3 years at this point so it's a bit dated
