I need some help

Someone on here told me that my Model F77 doesn't have a function key row but I just help down function key and pressed number 5 and it activated F5. I specifically bought this keyboard because I was told it didn't have a function row but actually it DOES.

Fuck you /g/ why would you do this to me.
>>
Does anyone have any idea whether Realforce 55g TKL keyboards will ever be available anywhere but eBay ever again? EliteKeyboards sits has said that stock was supposed to be arriving in "April/May 2017" for months and they still haven't gotten SHIET.
>>
>>61295306
Ah, I think I see the problem here. You see, you actually pressed a number key - except that by also pressing a modifier, you changed layers, making F5 come out.

So your keyboard does not, in fact, have a function row, and there's no need to worry.
>>
If I make a single switch keyboard that can send any keycode a fullsize keyboard can by counting how many seconds it's held down for, is that a fullsize keyboard?
>>
>>61295339
If it didn't have a function key row it wouldn't have actuated F5. You screwed me anon.
>>
>>61295351
Apparently it will have all the keys (not just the one), but still won't be fullsize. It's obvious dude.
>>
>>61295367
You are a dumb piece of shit that is incapable of reading. I stated you'd need a 60% minimum with two layers to get the functionality of a 100% but continue samefagging like the autistic cunt you are.

Reported for being underage.
>>
>>61295361
That's where you're wrong. Almost no keyboard has, e.g., a * key - instead, to make a * come out, you press a modifier and then the 8 key.
Same situation here - you only have a number row, and no function rows, but you can change what keys your number row sends. In fact, since it's a fully programmable keyboard, you could make the number row send any scancode you want! It's a very useful number row, you see?
>>
>>61295406
So what you're saying is, I do indeed have a function key row! Awesome.
>>
>>61295256
hot damn what keyboard is that
>>
>>61295434
It's the glorious IBM Model F 77 key keyboard. It has a rwo in one number row which also couples as a function key row thanks to keyboard layers!

It's quite remarkable.
>>
>>61295390
Uh could you please explain why, exactly, a 60% with two layers? So for instance a Plank can't have the functionality of a fullsize? I don't follow.

Also, a VERY KEY word you said is that a 60% with two layers can have the FUNCTIONALITY of a fullsize. It won't BE a fullsize. Similarly, by mapping function keys to a non-primary layer you can have the FUNCTIONALITY of an F-row. You won't actually HAVE an F-row, and the keys which have F functionality on the secondary layers WON'T actually BE F-keys.

Farewell /mkg/ I am off to go play with the function row on my Model F77!

Good night :)
>>
>>61294429

One board uses recycled trash and the other is a fairly decent keyboard that's been widely used for a while now. I wouldn't recommend either and instead wait a couple days for the CM MasterKeys PBT instead.
>>
Guys you shouldn't have let me make the OP
>>
Tips to get a Terminal Model F on ebay?
What are the part bumbers, nicknames, etc?
>>
Im sure theres a market for replicas because that thing looks so good when new
>>
>>61295471
104 key full size
1 key with 2 functions
you'd need at least 60% minimum to cover all missing keys

Hope you understand dumbass :)

Good night!
>>

Why not 1 key 3 functions?

I'm just tired of having to search through the catalog every time. This thread in particular is really bad at linking new threads in old ones.

So if nobody can create a competent op before the old thread falls off page 10, then I'll make my half-assed one and link it properly, and maybe that will motivate people who can actually make good OPs to get moving before I do.

It should, as long as it can interpret the scancodes, since the onboard processor handles the actual mappings

PBT keycaps, full size or TKL, similar colorscheme, decent build quality (non flexing).

Ducky One keyboards have a steel plate to prevent flexing since the case is made of plastic, and the keycaps are nice and thicc dye-sub PBT. How cheap do you want to go? Cause you can get something like a used model M for 40-50 bucks which will blow almost any modern keyboard out of the water with its build quality.
>>
>>61296394
I'm okay with going for the Ducky One, I was just asking if I can get something as decent without the ARM processor at a lower price.
Since I don't need all those "features", it would be a waste to pay for them if I don't have to.

>used model M for 40-50 bucks
I'll consider it, but I'd rather have an unused keyboard.
Model F would be nice if it wasn't so expensive.
>>
>>61296394

Where? Every time I check to see if there are any reasonably priced model m keyboards, the ones that are 40-50 bucks are beat to shit and/or not working.

recommend some /aesthetic/ keycaps for my DS3 TKL that show the LEDs but not super obviously, they are too bright with the stock keys even on lowest setting but I still want to see them just not have them be as obvious
>>
What are my options for wireless mechanical keyboards? I'm looking to get a setup for occasional use with my Steam Link. My ideal is a TKL with a standard layout, not a compact one, with something tactile/clicky, LEDs that I can toggle from the board itself without software, and slightly inset keys(versus those cases that basically have no sides), but I'd settle for basically anything wireless.

If I wanted to spend more like $300 Canadian I could definitely get something better from the US somewhere but it's a pain in the ass and you can get a nasty surprise on the duty, shipping and tax compared to buying from Canadian stores, and a much bigger hassle if you need to return.

>>61299933
I'm been using a ducky shine 3 TKL with browns for about a year, was my first experience with mechs, I don't mind them but I think I would like reds from what I read about them.. hard to know until you actually use them for a while and get used to them though, I don't think I would even be able to tell from a switch tester and there's nowhere locally here to try them so I figure the vengeance is a fairly cheap way to give reds a try and if I hate it I could probably even sell it locally for the 90 bucks it's on sale for now.

Quality is good, he's very happy overall, all leds work, gateron browns are VERY nice compared to cherry browns. Only bad thing is they dun goofed with the two rubber feet, one is way thinner than the other so he gonna have to remove/replace both. Also the manual is in chinkrunes only.

Probably some gunk got in under the barrel plate when you were cleaning it after you removed the keys. Let it dry another few days without using it. If it keeps it up after that, time to spend a few bucks on some bolt-modding supplies.

They've been discontinued.
Besides microcenter has topre keyboards now, and honestly they don't feel all that great

Don't bother. It sounds like you're a retard. Stick with rubber domes. Mechanical keyboards are too complicated for you.
>>
>>61302230
Since no one recommended you a keyboard, I'll just recommend you look at the Tada68 and get it in any switch variant but blue or green.
>>

Just got a Rantopad MXX that I'm very happy with, comes with gaterons which are very nice linear switches
I got RGB but if I'm not mistaken there's an option for white/no leds on Amazon
Also 80$

I have autism, is this corporate-speak for "we will keep your advice on file", i.e. "don't expect anything"? Also should I reply, emphasizing that "very slow and lost" is just fine for a $2-3 keycap, or just let them do their thing?

Sometime I feel like I should just start posting on /r9k/

i interpret it as they'll talk to the factory and see if they can make extra spacebars so kbdfans can sell them separately. and just let them do their thing with the shipping

I spilt water on my ducky one being a drunken retard and now the bottom left keys are fucked, I was going to get a lolita spyder replacement as I've heard enough good things about them but found this cheaper with a backlight

UK layout mechanicals with backlights are all "gamer" branded with an inflated price, anyone heard of this keyboard before, opinions?

Looking for a cheap backlit mechanical keyboard (red or brown switches).
I'm looking at these two right now:

https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlight-Switches/dp/B0727QLY2F/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499724937&sr=8-1&keywords=patriot+viper+v730

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010M53SLU/ref=s9u_simh_gw_i16?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pd_rd_i=B010M53SLU&pd_rd_r=PFE9BP3Q4R1EZJ41J3B1&pd_rd_w=qeSWf&pd_rd_wg=xQ55o&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=PZ06F5F5XA8JCX9PZAYZ&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=781f4767-b4d4-466b-8c26-2639359664eb&pf_rd_i=desktop&th=1

Which would /g/ prefer?
Or is there a better option in that price range altogether?

Prime day starts in a couple hours. Any deals you guys are waiting for. I hope the magicforces with gaterons go on sale again cause I need a small 60-65% keyboard for 40 bucks. I know massdrop has them, but I'm not waiting till october to get them.

I'm doing a test fit before I solder all the switches into my custom board.
For some reason, my stabilized keys are taller than the rest of my keys. Anyone know what gives? I'm using DSA keycaps if that helps.

that is indeed strange, DSA should be more or less uniform. Lets have more info about the board, chasis, caps, etc.

Anyone thinking about the whitefox kickstarter or is it just a meme? I've wanted one since I first saw them, and now they are coming back. I'm not too sure about the new funky switches, although I do want to go back to linear.

Thing is though, I've also been wanting both function and arrow keys. Currently have a 60% which is fine, but I miss the arrow and function keys more than I expected. Whitefox has arrow keys, but no function keys.

What do you guys think? What are some good 75% keyboards I could look at instead?

Just finished soldering my first keyboard, holy shit I can't solder at all. Thankfully every key works seemingly enough.
>>61311923
I probably wasn't pushing them onto the keyswitches hard enough. I rebuilt the keyboard and now they're fine.
>>
>>61314087

something i've found helpful is to have a big flat rectangle of Styrofoam lying around. I can press whatever I'm soldering down into it while I put pressure on the PCB. helping hands clips are nice too but not as nice for stuff down flat.
