Are aio liquid coolers better than aircoolers?
>>
>>61089014
yes, but not by much assuming higher tier aircooler
there are also drawbacks
- pump noise
- pump will break and you can toss it out
- danger of puncturing/leaking

air cooler is a block of metal that will work forever as long as you can mount it, and when fans die, you buy new one for $10 and go on..

I've just unbricked my router via telnet failsafe using md -r erase rootfs_data. Which I assume resets it.
Should I reflash the firmware? just to be safe or is it fine.

depends on how your bricked it
if you bricked it by puting some new firmware then yes
if you bricked it by playing with some settings then no

I want to try out bitcoin, just for experimentation really. Seems to be all the rage. Figured I'd get a premium account at a DDL host I use alot.

So I got my wallet, and I was told to buy coins from coinbase. I set up an account and whatever and they want my bank information? Isn't this supposed to be anonymous?
>>
>>61089489
nothing about bitcoins is anonnymous
every single transaction is public record...
you need to get bitcoins from anonymous source
to get some level of anonymity

though I believe there are services that for fee anonymize your bitcoins
you put in bitcoins, they mix it with other bitcoins and then send them to some address your give them
then nothing ties you to that address that got all those bitcoins

So I'm sitting with a PrestaShop database and need to JOIN three columns with SQL. I get the right results when I only run one LEFT/RIGHT join, but I need them to join (I.E the other columns not being NULL)

Running this only gives me ps_product_lang.name and the others NULL
SELECT ps_product_lang.name, ps_product.id_product, ps_product.reference
FROM ps_product_lang
LEFT OUTER JOIN ps_product ON name = ps_product.reference
UNION
SELECT ps_product_lang.name, ps_product.id_product, ps_product.reference
FROM ps_product_lang
RIGHT OUTER JOIN ps_product ON name = ps_product.reference

Am I missing something here? I have a feeling it's something obvious, but I'm not experienced with SQL queries. Already tried UNION ALL and putting parentheses around the queries.

I want to install some distros in a virtual machine. My laptop has a Pentium B960 CPU. I googled it and it said that its architecture is x86-64 (that's the same as AMD64, right?). >>
>>61089942
>I understand that a VM can't do anything about the CPU architecture.
i'll take that as a "no, i have no idea what a VM is"

VM stands for "virtual machine", and it is essentially an emulated PC, as such, the cpu this "machine" uses can be different from the host's real cpu
in this case, your VM has been configured with a 32bit "virtual" cpu, which your guest OS doesn't support

>>
>>61089900

you have a 64 bit capable cpu with, presumably, a 64bit os

when you configured your virtual machine you explicitly gave it (or rather ignored the defaults) a 32bit cpu

so when you try to install a 64bit iso on your virtual machine configured with *a virtual 32-bit cpu* the iso booted from the *virtual machine* only sees the *virtual* 32bit cpu with a *virtual* 32bit instruction set

either use a 32bit iso or reconfigure your virtual machine to emulate a 64bit cpu

(and as a note the cpu isn't technically emulated but when you configure the virtual machine with a 32bit cpu it's only using 32bit instruction sets regardless if the host cpu is capable of providing 64bit instruction sets)

>>61090107

why are you even trying to install linux on a virtual machine on a 6 year old laptop, just bare metal that shit

if you want to get this working just get a 32bit/i686 iso and expect slightly worse performance because you will be emulating everything rather than having some instructions run natively
>>
>>61090107
last i checked, virtualbox can only software emulate a 32bit cpu, and for 64bit support, it needs hardware accelleration, which is often an option that can be turned on and off in your system firmware (bios/uefi)
why it's not always on, i don't know, in fact, i've seen it off by default more often

just go into your bios/uefi and look for "virtualization", "vt-d", "vm", etc
>>
>>61090130
>slightly worse performance
more like immensely worse performance
the fact that 64bit isn't showing up means he has accelleration turned off

>>61090131
>>61090107
OK NEVERMIND
i double checked, and your cpu DOES NOT SUPPORT VM accelleration
seriously intel? a 2011 cpu with no VM accelleration? what the fuck.

>>61090107

so I actually just googled your cpu and it doesn't support vt-x, what vt-x does is allow virtual machines to run cpu instructions natively instead of having them be emulated

what this means to you is that virtual machines can only ever emulate a cpu, and in the case of virtualbox you cannot emulate a 64bit cpu (other virtual machine software *might* be able to but I wouldn't recommend it unless you *absolutely* need a 64bit vm)

basically, you're stuck with 32bit virtual machines if using virtualbox

>>61090131
>why it's not always on, i don't know, in fact, i've seen it off by default more often

there is some slight security risks to leaving it enabled if you're not using it but in practice it's nothing to worry about

it's mostly just because bios firmware manufacturers tend to go for more failsafe defaults especially on lower end boards (being a pentium cpu it's most certainly the lowest end motherboard)

>just go into your bios/uefi and look for "virtualization", "vt-d", "vm", etc

it's almost always going to be listed under "virtualization" and/or "vt-x", if the cpu and motherboard do support vt-d it either comes under the virtualisation option or has an option of its own next to vt-x, I've had a bios update which puts it under its own option where previously it was only under the regular virtualisation option

>>61090156

oh you motherfucker you beat me to it

but yeah the speed is going to be shit, never actually tried running virtual machines with vt-x disabled before
>>
>>61090250
>but yeah the speed is going to be shit, never actually tried running virtual machines with vt-x disabled before
unless he was planning on using 20 year old software, he really doesn't want to software emulate his cpu
>>
>>61090250
and yea, i got vt-d and vt-x mixed around, not used to modern intel stuff
and while virtualbox doesn't support software 64bit cpu emulation, there's no technical reason for it, you can emulate a 64bit cpu with other software, such as QEMU

1. Requires setting up a server on Metal, i don't have extra metal, just shitty NUCs and two Cisco's.

2. same as 1, IP range blocking isn't consistent and tends to break.

3. still requires more metal that is capable of processing all this, but i like the idea, seems simple, establish a connection, you know who the destination is, then all traffic is encrypted.

Can't be help i think, i need more good Metal?

i'm having trouble with GPU drivers in my arch. First time (seriously) attempting to switch to linux tho.
I have tried to install drivers with the "antergos" arch installer first. Didn't work so reinstalled arch then went to the wiki to see how to install proprietary nvidia drivers, did the installation, ran the configuration file generator command then revised, everything seemed OK, restarted and this time the initialization just froze (literally 1 line saying "[...] XXX blocks loaded"), waited for 1 hour and installed arch for the third time.

Any ideas on how could I get my graphics card drivers to work? Also in case I get a black screen / freezes booting up again how do I go to a previous system image (or equivalent, just revert the fuckup so I can log in again so I don't have to reinstall again)?

My graphics card is an nvidia GTX960M (laptop)

Okay so TL;DR
I need a laptop or tablet that I can use for uni. I won't be doing any gaming as I have a computer for that already, and am willing to spend up to $1000 AUD and am willing to buy "used" (1-2 years old max), but I want something that will last me at least 4-5 years because I'm pretty poor

Any recommendations?

I got on Youtube today and received the umpteenth Google window who says I can't use their services if I don't agree with the policy blah blah. Since it's getting annoying I tried to block it. I managed to remove it from CSS with these rules:
div.yt-dialog-base {display:none}
#yt-dialog-bg {display:none}
However I still can't scroll the page normally because the scrollbar is gone. Probably a js issue since blocking them doesn't cause it to disappear. Is there any way to force the scrollbar to come back? I'm using Firefox.
>>
>>61094281
It should be as simple as pacman -S nvidia
But if you don't know what you're doing, you probably shouldn't use arch.

>how do I go to a previous system image
Snapshots. Btrfs / ZFS are the best options, but LVM works too.
Or just use backups.
>>
>>61094293
afaik the best option for ps2 video output is with the component cable, some games have an optional, sometimes hidden progressive output mode, and others can be forced into progressive mode with GS mode selector

don't really have suggestions on component>HDMI converters, i prefer to use a CRT

I just realized it's a laptop. You probably don't want to use nvidia as your main gpu. Laptops usually use integrated to save power and dedicated only for games. You'll want to look into bumblebee for that.
>>
So a friend came over the other day with his laptop so we could play some vidya together. He said he'd done a factory reset earlier that morning because it was acting sluggish however when he brought the laptop and turned it on it was also slow as fuck. Like some programs would take *minutes* to start and even if they started faster they'd be completely unresponsive but after like 10-15 minutes of this bullshitery they'd start working normal.
I've been wondering, what could be the cause?

I ruled out malware because of the factory reset from recovery partition.
That couldn't be startup bloat either because the recovery partition basically puts a fresh version of Win on it with a few drivers.
I don't think that's a case of dying HDD with slow R/W either because it gets back to normal after a while.

Any ideas? I'm really curious.
>>
>>61094596
well as I sad, archer C50, or if you got that extra budget archer C7
though if you are in house and not appartment, I would rather take two lower tier routers over single powerful, but all depends on what coverage you want

they are plenty configurable
and if you ever feel like playing with more you can put openwrt or lede on them, for even more control

>>
>>61094920
yes, you can do that
be sure to select the fallback initramfs if your distro does that, as your normal one might only include drivers for your host machine (you can regenerate it, but i wouldn't bother, as you'll then have to regenerate it again when on metal)

just be certain you do not rw mount any volume in both the VM and on the host at the same time, doing so will seriously fuck things up
also, be careful with VM savestates, it's possible to use them safely, but don't do so unless you understand what you're doing, in your case also for security reasons, as such a state may contain your decryption key

s/iowait/uninterruptible sleep/
more specifically
as the name suggests, a program waiting on IO can't be interrupted, meaning it won't respond to being killed

Why do I feel pain when I press on the area between my dick and waistline? specifically about an inch to the right of the middle of that area looking downward.

Could it be from jerking off 14 times the previous week? Feels like there may be a bump there, hard to tell
>>
>>61099391
i don't feel pain pressing anywhere around there, go ask a doctor or something
>>

If you just browse web and listen to music get linux, if not get windows
>>
>>61099359
7 if you don't mind a little extra work, 10 if you need the windows store for anything. Otherwise 8. Installing windows before linux is the correct way, btw.

Because your cable wire can only transfer and recieve certain amount of data. Otherwise everyone would be downloading at 100mb's

I plan to use it for programming and web-browsing(agressive google engine and multiple tabs)

Not really, but they get the good ones thrown in, plus you get thumbnails for newer filetypes. There's no harm in using the klite version.

Pointless. Notebooks should only be used for light activity

Could you elaborate that?
And yes, I have plenty of free time in hands atmo,

Nice. But it also depends on the gear outside your home. The one that is owned by your provider

I don't have much experience with linux desu, I've used it for something about 2 months Ubuntu, I liked it but softwares sucked.
Do you have a good reccomendation for an user like me?

>>61099521
Thanks. But I found weird because last time I used Windows 7, it was consuming more CPU than Windows 10, both being "semi-fresh installed, so I don't have a good impression about it.

Google spent about a year planting fibre in the neighboorhood.Google is the last mile
>>
>>61099566
Before you finish installing the initial updates win7 doesn't know how to handle the changes microsoft servers have made the last couple of years. It basically goes on an endless loop consuming resources when it tries to update. The updates themselves fix that.
>>
>>61099581
You should contact your provider then. Sorry for such shallow answer but i know that my area is bottlenecked to certain degree
>>
>>61099607
i hear they fixed that such that you don't need to manually intervene anymore, but i'm not 100% sure
>>
>>61099566
That's microsoft trying to dissuade people from using 7. Do the shit in the link and that will go away. Hell, you'll have less update fuckups than with 10. They break something or other for most people every couple months.
>>
>>61099544
what competitive intel chips? Their 8 core chips are 140W

If apple's next line of products don't contain Ryzen in the desktops and laptops they're truly lost, it's good for them in every possible way.
>>
>>61099629
I highly doubt it. Microsoft put a pretty big gap in where the initial updates are trouble. But once you've got those the rest is easy.
>>
>>61099566
It dosent matter really. All operating systems are pretty much the same but windows have much better compatibilty with opengl and directx, so if updates are an issue or you are working with graphics deveplopment. It more comes down to ease of use and security

Let us say I decide to travel really long term, and stay 6 to 12 months away. Now let's say I leave my computer at home. And by computer I mean a three monitor beast that I love like I would love a son. What would be the consequences of this be. I mean, if it stays literally untouched for six to twelve months. What kinds of precautions should I take and so on.

For P2P you can use basic shit like PIA. For privacy you want to look for something outside your own country. There's no harm in finding something that claims not to log, but there's minimal reason to trust those claims.

I want to switch back to Windows 7 from 10 but I've heard there is multi-monitor functionality that I would miss.

For example 10 lets you scroll in a window on a 2nd monitor simply by hovering your mouse over that window.

Can this be replicated through software?

Which reasons could be behind the MinGW Distro from nuwen.net generating a 2.50 MB executable (when I get ~50 KB using the MinGW downloaded directly from the MinGW-w64 site)? What causes this?
