Okay so a few days ago it was super hot and my PC crashed, not blue screen but actual black screen with horrible repeating sounds crashed. When it restarted it went to a black screen after "Starting windows". So I decided it was time to reinstall windows 7 anyway and I reinstalled from scratch, formatted my drive and everything.

She started up okay and I got into windows, started installing my drivers. The graphics driver needed a restart so I restarted and I got a black screen again.

So I reinstalled again, installed my ethernet drivers, restarted, it was fine, restarted again for shits, it was fine. Reinstalled my graphics driver. Black screen again.

So TODAY I stole my dad's graphics card, put that in, windows starts okay. Install the graphics drivers, restart it, Windows is okay and will even do all the fancy aero bits. Put my card back in, fucking nothing again.

Is my card fucked?

So just why DID Intel name their Core series of processors "i3/i5/i7" anyway?
>>
>>61010725
>Is my card fucked?
Clearly
>>
>>61010778
They're naming schemes, i3 is more low end, i5 is mid range, and i7 is high end. It would be easier to remember i3 than the specific processor codename.

Right, I get that bit, but why choose those particular numbers? Aren't these for 4/6/8-core procs?
>>
>>61010884
iFor, iSex, and iAte were already trademarked by Apple. Intel just didn't want the hassle of fighting in the courts.
>>
>>61010884
>Aren't these for 4/6/8-core procs?
Nope. 6 and 8 core are reserved for HEDT(at least until coffee lake). There are even dual-core i7s if you include mobile chips.
>>
>>61010917
KEK, ok that was a good one!
>>
>>61010921
Which would mean they're all 4-core, I guess. Thus the number in the name is... just a brand? That'd make some kind of sense, if I was a marketing faggot.
>>
>>61010948

Sometimes when I click on an image or something on 4chan, and then go to post something, the previous image i clicked on shows up.

I have tried to duplicate the problem, but it seems pretty intermittent.

What is causing this?
>>
>>61010948
For desktop, i3s are dualcores with HT, i5s are quadcores without HT and i7s are quadcores with HT and up(at least until SkylakeX and i9s). This will(probably) change with coffee lake, which is supposed to include hexacores in the mainstream lineup. For mobile they're all dualcores unless the name has Q in it.

I am trying to use Source Filmmaker. It has a hard memory cap of 3GB, because it is a 32 bit program. This would be fine, if it weren't for the fact that whenever I browse models to add to my scene, each model I click on gets loaded and rendered by SFM in a small preview box. The problem is that the memory used for this rendering seems to never /go away/, thus causing memory usage to go up and up until the program crashes if I browse too many models without restarting the program.

I really have no idea where to turn but here, /sqt/. Does ANYONE know how to unload models you browsed but aren't using?

p-states get set by gpu utilization, so no, you cant force p-states. bios handles that.
however you can make custom frequency shortcuts with nvidiainspector. just use that before you open the program then reset after exiting.
if you wanna do it hassle free write a simple batch script to do it for you.

I understand why you can't realistically edit an existing block in a cryptocurrency blockchain to insert a fake transaction, but why can't I run a mining node and insert a fake transaction in the current block? Obviously I have no way of predicting how long it'd take until I'm the "winner" of a block, but if I have a sufficiently powerful rig and I just keep mining away inserting my fake transaction with every attempt, I'll eventually solve the block first and then wouldn't my fake transaction enter the blockchain?

>>
>>61013273
>Now if you got 500 inserts of that tainted block,it may take in the blockchain.

I don't think that's how it works, at least with ethereum. You mine by randomly trying different nonce values in the block until it hashes equal to or below a given value based on the block's assigned difficulty. First miner to get lucky solves the block. In the case of multiple solutions being discovered, the block with the lowest hash wins.

I'm not seeing anything about a consensus on the validity of the transactions in the winning block.

you sure the original battery is only 6600mAh with 9 cells? that's only 733mAh per cell, which is pretty low

but yea, higher mAh cells should get you more time, though how much more depends on a few things, probably most importantly is the discharge curve of the cell you're getting, and the minimum voltage needed by the device
notice in the picture that the voltage level steadily drops the longer they discharge, if the laptop needs a high voltage to operate, you might not make the most of the cells

Hi, W10 broke amidst of an update (Good thing I have dualboot with Linux eh, Microsoft? :^) ) and I want to install W7 in the same partition where 10 used to be, but I have some questions before doing so and I think this is the right place to ask them.

>What's the best Linux software to make a bootable USB?

>There are three partitions "behind" of the broken W10 partition:
>>The first is tagged as "system" (1 GiB)
>>The second who's name is "EFI SP" (100 MiB)
>>And the third who's name's just "Ba" (as every other Windows partition except for EFI) (128 MiB, I think this is what's called the "MSR Partition")
>>AFAIK these three are important to Windows and must not be removed, however; now that I'm going to install W7 should I remove them? The new install will modify them? Should I care at all?

>Will the new Windows install break the multiboot boot loader? (GNU GRUB)

>Should I erase the W10 partition before installing 7 or it doesn't matter?

It shouldn't matter but I'd do it anyway just in case the Windows installer tries to do something funky with it

Basically, that's not computable. i.e. it's impossible to know what is going to happen at runtime.

Nope, they should all work fine, just be sure you have the right power plug and that your PSU voltage is set to what it's supposed to be.
>>
>>61013080
Yes, for the most part. They have to be the same chemisty (Li-ion vs. Li-Po)

Also the same voltage. They're usually 3.7v so if you take your battery's rated voltage and divide it by the number of cells you get the individual cell rating. Ex. I tore apart an old netbook battery for the cells which had no meanignful identifiers on them. The pack itself was rated for 10.8v and it had 3 cells.

10.8/3=3.6v, thoughI don't know if they make 3.6v so we'll go eith 3.7v cells.

The battery was also 2.2A (2200mAh), so the cells capacities were 2200/3 = 7.33333, so we'll say 750mAh per cell.

I think that's mostly right. I've never actually replaced the cells in a battery yet since decent cells are not super affordable for what I want to do, and I'm hesitant to solder the cells themselves and have't been able to find ones with the bus bars already on.

>>
>>61016952

Of course, it's right after I post this that I found the problem, although it makes no sense to me.

I went to the Windows 10 "Display settings" and turned "HDR and advanced color" OFF, and then it restored the nice, vivid colors again.

Which seems like the opposite of what I would need to do, but maybe that's just Windows being stupid.

Hope the vividness won't go away again now, and this will fix the restart issues.

Walk into any warehouse or corporate office, and they will usually have a mesh network.

Prosumer-level of mesh networks as nice if you have a large spread out or multi-story property. But if you have a medium-sized or smaller home, just get one decent wireless router and use repeaters for dead spots. If you have to use more than one or two repeaters, considering getting mesh.

My disks seems to be dead shells now after Fucking up and using an old cable between the psu and the ssd. Not the biggest loss, but it still sucks ofc. I suppose I can't do anything to fix them? Everything else seems fine in bios. I think atleast...

One of the appeals of being psudo anonymous is you arent limited by what you can say or do.
If everything you say is linked back to you, censorship is at hand.

That's pretty cool, I was just wondering if there was functional reasons to use it.

How come so many guides tell me to reinstall windows, though?
>>
>>61021916
because they're dumb windows users who don't know better

that said, modern windows can't just be drag/dropped, due to it being full of hardlinks, which explorer can't handle properly
but you can use ntfsclone instead, which does the trick
file level copies are still possible, just not as simple as it should be

You would need to clone the actual partitions, including some invisible ones on your OS drive. You also need to make sure the sectors line up ideally for the SSD, or you'll take a pretty big hit in performance. You can use macrium reflect and it will handle everything pretty much automatically. Then make sure to set the SSD as first in the boot order. If it boots up ok with the HDD completely removed, you're good to wipe the HDD.
>>
>>61022001
Can almost confirm. Recycled a HDD of an old laptop with windows on it to use as an external drive. If I set BIOS to boot on USB it will attempt to boot the windows on the hard drive.

Be advised though, if you have OEM stuff on it (like my laptop obviously does) it will stay on a self-repair loop and will not boot
>>
>>61022001
for modern windows, the simplest way is to just;
a. sysprep /generalize
b. clone all the partitions
>>
>>61022061

People have the impression that dynamic typing saves time for small programs and becomes a hassle as it scales up. While I'd agree that it's a hassle when scaled up I don't think dynamic typing actually saves time with small programs. There's a few languages that get very zealous about marking up your types that'd make it slightly problematic but you can make a statically typed programming language without those problems easily. Go would be an example of how you do that.

Also >>>/dpt/ are better at this than /sqt/
>>
>>61013538
It's normal unless your game suddenly slows down.
If you were on Intel the usage would be pretty fucking high in comparison.
>>
>>61022080
i think most of the time they just aren't aware of sysprep
it's a critical step to moving windows to new hardware, which barely anyone seems to know about

keep in mind, moving windows to new hardware without generalizing it first is /unsupported/ by microsoft
>>
Hey /g/, could websites (without refreshing) be constantly aware of which IP address you're connecting them with?

E.G. I'm connected to a website with X IP, but then my internet resets and I have Y IP. Can any website connected then see that I have Y IP or do I need to refresh the page and connect with that new IP for them to see it?
>>
>>61022145
sites that rely on user-specific persistence between pages (such as being "logged in"), typically use cookies to keep track of who's who
so changing IP part way through a session won't break anything, the server will know that you're the same person because of the cookie
>>
>>61022061
>>61022108

Sysprep sometimes runs into problems, and it can fuck with your windows activation and occasionally deactivate some programs. It's really overkill when you're just swapping out drives.
>>
>>61022218
>it can fuck with your windows activation
it's supposed to, it's for moving windows to a new computer (or multiple computers)

>It's really overkill when you're just swapping out drives.
sure, though that's not something people say to reinstall for
... do they?
>>
>>61022253
>it's for moving windows to a new computer
...which he's not

>that's not something people say to reinstall for ... do they?
Usually. Most people will tell you to do a clean install when upgrading to an SSD. Which totally isn't necessary if you've got a program handling the details for you. It's a pain in the ass from within linux though. Also it's not a bad idea to do a clean install of windows every few years, and a drive upgrade makes a good excuse. No reason you have to though. And I'd ditch any recovery partition during the cloning, as long as you can boot without it.

just keep it stock with your old playlists for those nostalgic feels (4g owner here)

my iphone 6s has twice the storage and the DAC is insanely better (10 years of DSP advancements)

if you want fun get an app called canopener and play some 24bit 48khz flac through it... you will be amazed

24bit audio on iphone 6s + kz zs5 headphones is the best audio you will get.... trust me... i have a high end hifi shop with megabuck astel and kerns around the corner... its all the law of diminishing returns...

ayo /g/ my nigga

i was curious about stacking CPU dies on top of each other using layered substrates that have liquid cooling lanes inbetween them. is this in any way possible? i ask because i'm interested in giving a system a shitload of cores but on a single motherboard. basically it'd be like a giant cube of CPU dies, and they would all be connected by a matrix of rigid fiber optic ports.
