Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to improve specs or build quality or to lower price, etc

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

Reposting because I'm at a loss.
Every time I boot up my pc it goes straight to BIOS. Once I exit the bios everything runs fine. I've checked to make sure all my connections are secure, unplugged the keyboard to make sure it wasn't triggering the bios, and reset all the settings to default.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Motherboard is MSI b350 pc mate.

stupid question,
if rx 470/480/570/580 are selling like crazy, why don't we see manufacturers pumping out more stocks?

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B350-TOMAHAWK.html#down-manual

Download the manual.
Go to page 24. See the clear bios connector. Go to page 36 and read more about it. Make sure it is set to keep data.

>>
>>60878360
They are. But manufacturing limitation + winding down current cards to start production for Vega means the stocks are limited.

Have an HP 8300 mini tower (not SFF). Has a 320 watt power supply.

I want to run a GTX 1060 using a sata-to-6pin converter.
It has an ivy bridge i5 pulling 77w max. The 1060 is 120w max.
It has 4x2gb ram, a 2tb hdd, and two case fans. I've disconnected the disc drive.

I know it's going to be close, but will this thing power the 1060, or will I wind up needing an auxiliary PSU? I can't upgrade the existing PSU because HP uses some proprietary bullshit.
>>

>>
>>60878442
Get a PCIe slot powered 1050Ti. Better than risking a power fault
>>
>>60878497
Was thinking about exactly that, but the performance benefits of the 1060 are too tempting. I was thinking worst case scenario I get an Add2Psu adapter and wire up a second power supply
>>
>>60878442
get a cheap psu and put it outside of the case. Or is the 24 pin connector pinned different. If you undervolt the 1060 and limit PL to 90% you might be okay on what you have.
>>
>>60878512
Eh, it's not really that much more powerful. Ideally you'd want the 1060, but turning down a few settings will get you pretty damn good performance with the 1050Ti with almost no visual fidelity loss

Sell it. Mining is most likely not worth your time, and rumors are a new stock is coming in and now the time to gain profit is limited.

No, it's not. It's like 10% slower to 20% faster depending on game iirc. Only real benefit is perf/watt is a bit higher, and way higher if you undervolt slightly.
And for some dumb reason, AMD hasn't supported Radeon Chill on older cards. Maybe there is a legitimate technical reason for this, but I doubt it.

I am sucker for fixed seasonic PSUs being sold for cheap
after RMA is probably US term

in my current machine I have seasonic X 650 that I bought for 60€, gold modular,... at that time it was like 40% of the price of new one
it came in original box, with sealed cables and accessories, everything sparkling clean, great buy

That was like 6 years ago
now I am picking new GPU for someone and went to look in to "sales" section
behold, I see two gold rated seasonic PSUs, repaired, for ridiculously low price
I could not say no

took both of them, the message next day that 360W one was sold already
so today came 550W gold, no accessories, no original box, but what you gonna do...
its already humming in a different machine, but who the fuck cares when 40€

thats just some talk
if theres one thing worth buying "repaired" its high tier PSUs, humanity figured them out and its all about quality components and workmanship
Repair guy at seasonic will go through everything and fixes problems and you get probably PSU in more reliable state than brand new - unknown one. Though new has more decades in it I guess, as it never been run...
>>
>>60880759

psu and mobo are in charge of booting, if it wont boot you got some bullshit going on in one of them

>>
>>60880906
>>60880872
actually recommending 1050ti is bit stupid IMO
but depends on local prices
the thing is that difference between 1050 and 1050ti is too small
while price can be often 50%
1050 or 1060 3GB would be better decision making

but again, depends on local prices, 1050 might be much more expensive and jump to 1050ti might be far less

do you really that much power on a pc for music production?.what kind of music do you produce
>>
Alright /pcbg/ the past hour or so has been a rollercoster of emotion
I finally received my Noctua AM4 bracket for my NH-D15 that been sitting in my desk for a week now. So i put the computer to sleep and start unmounting the cooler. Bummer, it doesn't want to get out. I'm thinking it's because i didn't unscrew in an X shape the same way you screw it, so i screw it back and it was indeed why it wouldn't come off. one screw is still holding it as i remove it so as the cooler is held over the motherboard i unscrew the last screw and it comes out.
And then i notice something fairly strange: my socket is empty of CPU. I look under my cooler only to see my poor CPU glue'd onto the cooler by the thermal paste. The computer had been running for 10 hours beforehand, i guess i should've ran prime95 before removing it.
So i do the twist method and after some long seconds, it does come out. And then i notice something: fucking bent pins
So here i am with a CPU full of thermal paste, out of it's socket and with bent pins. I pain to remove the thermal paste (as i was trying to avoid bending any more pins) and after some long minutes i start attacking the unbending of pins. It takes a lot of time but i manage to get a fairly acceptable result, but it doesn't go in. So i spend more minutes unbending pins, making sure all of the pins are exactly orientated the same way. After some long time i can barely recognise the pins that were bent, and then as the CPU still doesn't want to go in the socket i notice that i forgot to unlock the CPU locking mechanism (that lever), and finally it goes in.
The Noctua guide is confusing as fuck though so i decided to put the D15 in there without any bracket or thermal paste (i can remove it just by lifting it up) and check some videos on youtube about how to do it, which is how i'm talking to you right now. It's fairly cool, sitting at 40°C idle which is pretty much teh same as what i had with the stock cooler.
I'm going at it now, see ya!

yes. Even overclocking won't help much just due to the low instructions per clock.

Two friends of mine are planning on building a PC, after some research I came up with https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TRv4VY
Im stuck between the Asrock ab350 Pro4 and the Gigabyte ab350 gaming 3. I checked the qvl for both and used a website called rymem.vraith.com to check which RAM modules worked. Now my problem is that the gigabyte mobo's qvl shows it works with CMK64GX4M8B3200C16, but my question is if it would work with CMK16GX4M2B3200C16, which is basically the same but a 8GBx2 kit instead of an 8GBx8 kit. Stupid question, but I dont want to spend 125 dollars and find out the kits dont work. Almost the same question with the asrock board, except that I got the info off of that website I found.

tl;dr Would that ram kit work with a gigabyte ab350 gaming 3 or should I go with an asrock pro4 and trust that website I found?

My old HDD is slowly dying. There are more than 3 TB of files on there and I have to move them somewhere else.
Are external HDDs any good? Or do I wait for SSDs to become cheaper?
>>
>>60884456
Just get an external HDD and get that shit off of the old hard drive.
>>
>>60884456
>Are external HDDs any good
They are exactly the same as internal desktop drives, just in a plastic housing with a cheap DC adapter and a USB-to-SATA controller. You can always shuck the drives out of their casing and stick them into your case if you feel like it (it will void your warranty, though). They tend to be much cheaper than their internal drive counterparts because "reasons"
>>
>>60884456

>>
>>60884611
>external HDDs are usually shitty slow 2,5"
No they are not. Buy a desktop external drive and it's a 3.5" that's 100% identical to their internal counterparts. Toshiba even includes 7200rpm drives in their Canvio models.
If anything, avoid the "portable" exterrnal drives, because WD and some other companies put proprietary connectors on their drives to prevent people from putting them into their laptops.

>they are considered of low reliability, far behind internals
You literally have 0 clue what you're talking about.
>>
>>60884657
>>they are considered of low reliability, far behind internals
>You literally have 0 clue what you're talking about.

go to any sysadmin and ask him how he feels about backups on external drivers
plus when faggot in here asks about portable HDD you know he will be eyed the chepest wd elements or some bullshit that dies inexplicably in 2,5 years
>>
>>60884701
I've been using external drives for years and have never had one fail that wasn't caused by me being a careless buffoon. The main cause of failure for external drive is either physical trauma (which is why my external drives are never leave my desk and why I secure all the USB+DC cables to the desk) or poor quality power adapters (find nonshit DC power bricks and you won't have this problem, or better yet, don't plug them into the fucking wall socket without a surge protector or UPS). Even if the SATA controller fails, I never had an issue popping them out of their case and mounting them on a different USB-to-SATA adapter, as long as your format them properly out of the box and run stress tests on them to weed out the defective drives before you store data on them.

If you're really that paranoid about heat death, then put a spare case fan on their vent, or use one of those laptop coolers to mount several external drives on top of the fans.

Again, you can always extract the drives from their case and controller after stressing them and reformatting them. Put them inside your PC, your NAS, or a better third-party external enclosure.
>>
>>60884456
Buy a regular 3,5" desktop drive, and a separate enclosure. Sure, it'll be sightly more expensive, but not only you get to choose the drive, you can later put it back into your desktop without losing warranty.

I have a WD red in a small metal enclosure with it's own power supply, it's running cool and silent.
>>
>>60884793
I was also thinking about doing this. What enclose are you using?

If you're not going to overclock you chose an unnecessary "premium" chipset. For gaming it doesn't, currently.

You could make the future proofing argument but it is far more likely that once you'll need to upgrade to 16GB it will be far cheaper to buy 8gigs now and 8gigs then than buying 16gigs now, keep in mind DDR4 is way overprice at this point in time.

USB 2.0 cable or port? You're gonna get like 50MB/s read write at best, probably even worse.

>>
>>60885924
It wouldn't work well because you need SATA power cables in addition to the USB adapter cables. You might as well put that inside your case to keep the cables safe from accidents.
Apart from losing 1Gbps in bandwidth, there is a ~10% bandwidth reduction due to USB-to-SATA overhead conversion, so a 190MB/s drive will peak out at around 160-170MB/s.

Also, some of the most common direct SATA-USB adapter cables require an additional SATA power connector or MOLEX just to power them, so there's little point in doing so.

It's a good time to buy CPUs thanks to the price drop on Ryzen (due to flagging sales in the desktop market) and Intel's X99 system (ironically also due to flagging sales, but from Ryzen's launch), but it's not a good time to buy any other components.
>GPU
The only sane option under $300 is the GTX 1060 since the RX 580 and 570 are being horded by the cryptocurrency miners
>memory
Price gouging due to a lack of NAND chips from all memory producers
>SSDs
See above
>motherboard
AM4 boards are returning to a steady supply again, but they're still priced too high compared to launch. LGA1151 boards are going to become obsolete next year (to make way for the LGA1151v2 socket), but they're at least dropping in price. LGA2011v3 is on a firesale right now to clear inventory for the upcoming LGA2066 boards, but the CPUs still costs far more than what they're worth.
>>60886062
>What's your opinion on USB 3.0 enclosures?
Be prepared to spend money on them or regret it a year later. A cheap $40 enclosure might seem like a good deal right now, but you'll have to throw it out a year later since the PCB and power components are made out of cheap parts.
Looks for a multi-bay enclosure with a fan on it, they normally have beefier parts to account for the additional drives.
>>
>>60885832
>I'm probably overpaying
Yes you are. There are cheaper 1060's that are just as good. Take a look at EVGA SC and Palit (Super) JetStream cards.
>Will my PSU be sufficient?
Yes but Corsair CX is generally shit.
>2400 RAM
You want faster RAM. Ryzen wants fast RAM, cheaping out on it is not a good idea. See if you can find Corsair LPX (3000 CL15) or G.Skill Ripjaws V (3200 CL16) or similar.
>BitFenix Nova
Absolutely shit case but if you don't mind it.. Do get at least one additional case fan, i think i only comes with one.
What i've learned is that buying a cheap case, even if on budget, will bite you in the ass at some point. If your budget allowd for it, spend like 40-50€ on something better.
>No SSD
If you don't already have one, you want one, don't ask, just buy.

Also, consider if you really want to go with the 1500X. The 1600 is only 20€ more and gives you two additional cores.
If you only play muh gaymes and don't want to OC the 1500X will probably be better, but other than that the 1600 is the way to go.

Read the reviews on those. I'm fairly certain all of them are rebranded and sold by other brands like Vantec and Startech, so check their reviews as well.
However, if they're RAID enclosures, make sure there is a physical switch on them that can enable or disable RAID/JBOD, since hardware RAID reliability on external enclosures suck shit through a straw. One tiny error can cause the entire array to become unusable and unrecoverable. Stick with the ones that lets you use each individual drives.

Ditch the intel and get an R5 1500x if gaming is the only cpu intensive thing you'll do. You can ditch the aftermarket cooler since ryzen's stock cooler is surprisingly good.

You don't need a Z270 motherboard if you're not planning on using multiple GPUs, which you aren't. Get a B350 mobo and a ryzen 1600 is you're planning on overclocking or a A320 mobo with a ryzen 1500x if you're not.

You really only need 8GB of RAM atm and since DDR4 memory is at a historically high price futureproofing makes no sense. Best case scenario go 8GB 3200mhz since ryzen really benefits from ram speed.

ffs why would you need a soundcard?

Pirate windows 10.

Do you really need an optical drive?

>Getting 300$ soon, perfect
>Start checking out new things, all of this shit is so terribly expensive to do anything reasonable
All I want is to like play the new shit like overwatch, pubg, and like everspace. Last time I bought a prebuilt and it has no PSU or GPU slots at all, and the CPU is a unique shape and can't be placed into normal boards. If I try to build one from scratch every parts shipping bumps the price up considerably than what you think it is. And prebuilts have that chance to be fucking terrible like the one I have now. I don't know what to do

Buy a prebuilt AMD system that has an A6-9500 or A8-9600. They have AM4 sockets, which you can swap out for a 65W TDP Ryzen CPU later on. Their iGPU can play Overwatch at 720p just fine, plus they have A320 or B350 chipsets in them.

>>60886429
GPU is intergraded and so is the psu, the CPU is not good and like I said, a weird shape. The only thing I could get out of upgrading would be the RAM. And that's really cheap. I feel like just starting from scratch would be better, but fucking shipping messes everything up. I guess I'm asking if it's REALLY worth it to build from nothing or to get an upgradable prebuilt and work from there
>>
>>60886429
I have no experience with prebuilts but heard their viability differs from country to country, so if you could tell us where you're based we could help you further.

Starting from scratch for 300$ is a little farfetched. You could build something starter for around 500-600$ assuming your keeping your peripherals.
>>
>>60886522
Oh, I am in the US, and sorry. I will be keeping my basic mouse, keyboard and monitor. I usually forget about those, sorry. I'm European based so I can't help you further with prebuilds.

I'm assuming you're not keeping your case as well.

For 350$ you could build a simple browsing/media pc but I'm fairly sceptical about building anything in Overwatch range for that money.

You could try searching some builds over Google and/or Youtube addressing your specific problem (Though note that a lot of content on tech is sponsored and doesn't provide you with accurate information, so crossreference different sources a lot)

>I believe my current mobo only supports 2133mhz memory anyway
All do. Those higher mem speeds are OC/XMP. You will have to config it in BIOS but it's worth it, especially since AGESA BIOS is already in beta and should soon be official.
>I'm considering the 1600 if I could cheap out elsewhere in the build, I'm already exceeding my 900euro budget by 50euros. (including an 150euro monitor)
Not really. You could go mATX which would save some a few bucks and get the cheapest non shit 1060 available, but other than that, there's not much room without compromising quality.
Imho buy a used monitor for 100 off of Ebay, Amazon Marketplace or Ebay Kleinanzeigen if you're from Germany.
>care to elaborate what part about it will bite me in the ass?
Build quality and materials are shit and cable management sucks ass. Friend of mine didn't listen and bought this exact case, he didn't enjoy building it.
If you're a first time builder you should get something better, otherwise you may find it a little irritating to build in.

This is a basic build you can use as starting template: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/YsK77h
The mobo is basic, that's the best way to describe it. The VRM is decent, ASRock uses the same on most budget boards. The RAM is slower, but still ok.
The EVGA 1060 SC offers excellent value. It's single fan but suprisingly good for what it is, actually it's better than many basic dual fan options.
With the CM N200 you get a great value case that suits the build, you can go cheaper but i don't recommend it.
The PSU is better than the Corsair CX, i don't recommend cheaping out on it. The monitor is good and i assume you can find it used for like 100€. Buying used monitors is zero risk, got my monitors used, too.
Change and upgrade it as you see fit, if you can buy a cheap used monitor and maybe a used similar GPU you should be able to stick a 120GB SSD for OS in there. Even if it exceeds your budget a little, SSDs for OS are worth it.

I have media and browsing down on this one, it's just games I want to be playing. I get unstable FPS in OW, and it's very hard for me to aim or play competitively. There's lots of games out there that I want to try and I don't mind playing on the absolute lowest settings. It's just the FPS that bothers me. Honestly something that could play overwatch at a solid 30 fps on the lowest settings would be totally fine with me.

Buy an i5/i3 prebuilt machine on ebay for $80-$130. Make sure it's not a small form factor PC as low profile video cards tend to be a bit more expensive than their normal sized counterparts. But absolutely make sure that it has a standard ATX power supply so that it's upgradeable in the future.

Or if you want to go even cheaper, find a Core 2 Quad system for $30-$60. Again, tower and ATX PSU.

A few years ago it seems big businesses and government organizations ditched their desktops for laptops, and some dealers are reselling decommissioned PCs they bought at auctions. It's a pretty good time to get one. Do note that the PC you get might not have a hard drive.

Add a GTX 1050 Ti if you want new. Look around on ebay for older graphics cards if you're willing to buy used. Do note that you absolutely will need an upgraded power supply if you're going this route as older graphics cards that are still worth a fuck tend to be much more power hungry.

Especially look for GTX 750 Ti, GTX 660/Ti, and R9 270/x cards.

Get EVGA 430W PSU if you need one. Depending on how crappy the OEM power unit is it might not even be able to handle a 1050 Ti.

>CPU is a unique shape

You're not talking about the Slot 1/Slot A processors are you?
>>
>>60886630

I hate to break it to you but 350$ just isn't going to get the job done. You might go ultra ultra budget and throw some old crap together to get low settings 30fps but it will only last for a year, then you're back to square one without any scavengable parts since you cheaped out.

I would highly recommend saving an extra 150$ (more is better) and start looking into an G4560 - GTX 1050 Ti setup.
>>
>>60886734
One more thing, eBay shipping can cost up to $25, so take that into account. You may want to take a look at what your local thrift store is selling.

Just make sure you don't buy one that has jizz stains on it.

I'm too retarded to find recent posts about this, so I ask here:

Are the issues with the x370 boards fixed now? Can I run 3,2 ghz RAM on them now?

Also why does a 200 bucks board have such a retarded m.2 slot placement (I'm looking at you gigabyte)
>>
Are there any drawbacks/concerns to "silent" cases besides higher cost? Like maybe worse airflow/heat dissipation, or anything else that would be good to know? No experience with them and I'm considering exploring one for next build, so any general tips/info/specific recommendations of cases would be cool.
>>
>>60886624
I'm having terrible availability issues on graphics cards, the only "decent" available 1060 right now is the 3-fanned 300mm long ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 ROG Strix so going microATX just to save a few bucks isn't worth it to me since shipping time is a factor for me.

Ideally I would like a cheaper B350 ATX motherboard and go for a r5 1600, less ideally I could downgrade to a A320 ATX + r5 1500x.
>>
>>60886840

Cases being silent or not is generally bullshit unless they have extensive sound dapeming (like the define R4 and R5 - not the glass versions obvciously). One thing that people often forget is that in this day of gpus that don't spin fans up at idle and very low TDP high performance cpus that can be run passively off large heatsinks one of the noisiest fans in your machine will be the one in your psu.
>>
>>60886809
>https://pcpartpicker.com/user/jeremyt6/saved/kJ6XsY
Yeah, you got for an R5 1600 bare minimum and a 1700 if you're feeling to get more powerful hardware, as productivity / editing software always benefit nicely from more cores.
For GPU the 1080p choice is generally a GTX 1060 6GB / RX 580 8GB (no stock at the moment). You can drop down to a 570 4GB if you want (no stock atm too)
In case you were thinking of keeping the cooler: please don't

That's nothing specific to the x370 chipset
It's been fixed for most with those few days old bioses. Just check motherboard's pages to see if they have a few days old bios with agesa 1.0.0.6, the vast majority of motherboard do have that update and the rest will follow soon.

Bought a x370 Gaming 5 last week along with a set of Gskill's Flare X. Had no problems running them on its rated 3200Mhz on 14C, even on the older bios. Enabled XMP and it just ran stable as a rock.

So just make sure you buy b-dies. The performance gain on faster ram (above 3200Mhz) seems really significant, and timings barely seem to affect it. So overclock that shit aiming towards 4000Mhz trading for sloppy timings.

Also the m.2 slot placement isn't 'that' bad. My placeholder GTX 660 barely runs any hotter than it did on a mobo without m.2.

Now does anyone know why the CPU temperature sensor on my motherboard seems to exactly measure 10 degrees celsius lower than the sensor in my R7 1700 (non-x)? I thought the 1700 non-x didn't got the temperature offset the X versions had. And even then, i thought they got rid of that a while ago.

Stay away from A320, you can't OC on it and it will have generally worse components. A320 is for OEM sellers. Don't think XFR isn't affected by shitty components, afterall it's still OC and that depends on the mobo quality like VRM quality.
mATX doesn't mean you can't use tripple fan GPUs, that depends entirely on your case, not your mobo. Many mATX cases support those large GPUs, i think the N200 does, too.

Right, the GPU-mATX compatibility was stupid thinking on my part. I am however, a sucker for case looks and I really love the sleek white bitfenix has going on. Since the case will be standing on my desk the looks are a larger priority than build quality. I can manage cables fairly well and a single-time more unpleasant building experience is worth the lifetime better looks of the case imo.
>>
>>60886903
It'll run, but unless your motherboard/cpu supports triple channel memory you're probably not going to see a significant speed increase. You'll just increase the amount of ram.

So if it only supports dual channel it might be worthwhile checking that out with just your two new sticks of ram.

Anything that you wouldn't be able to transfer over to a new system would be a waste of money.

And i think any new videocard would be seriously bottlenecked by the cpu.

So i'd just pot up the money and start saving towards a larger upgrade. Consider that a R5 1600 with a B350 and 8 (or even 16) GB of DDR4 ram can be had for around 400/500 bucks. And would be a serious upgrade.

Purpose: Temporary PC for light gaming, browsing, viewing media.
Budget: ~160 Euro (~180 USD)
Country: Serbia (we poor, hardware expensive)

My PC:

CPU - Phenom II X2 555
GPU - Radeon HD 4770
MB - MSI 880GMS-E35
RAM - 2 x 2GB DDR3
HDD - 500GB
PSU - Chieftek 400W

It's old and I admit: Poorly kept.

I will buy a 800-900+ Euro PC in the future (12+ months from now).

But I can't stand using my current PC... Just want to browse and play light games on Medium without hiccups.

I did some research and found potential parts to upgrade:

CPU - Athlon II X4 640/Phenom II X4 955 (30e/38e)
GPU - GTX 560 Ti/Radeon HD 6950 (60e both)
MB - Would keep
RAM - 2 x Samsung 4GB DDR3 (40e)
HDD - Would keep
PSU - Thermaltake 600W (32e)

I searched for a CPU by using the website called cup-upgrade.com and inputing my MB. Those two are the best ones I found... Then I searched for cheap used GPUs and these are the two best ones as well.

Thoughts? Would this function (aka without compatibility issues) or are there things that would make it not work (sorry, I'm a noob)?

Any help appreciated!

>>60887361
Yes it should because of four memory channels & higher clocks, but you shouldn't really be getting the 1800x when the 1700 & 1700x exist and most importantly the Skylake-X motherboard will be priced very high.
Also, threadripper will obviously have a 10 cores in there to compete with it.

Great!

One more thing: My current 400W PSU won't be enough for the new CPU+GPU combo, but do I need 600W or will 500W be enough?

I'd say GTX 1080 because even for 1440p 85hz it's better to ensures that maxing settings doesn't make you drop below that even if you play some very very intensive game

Sell the key and get the 1080. Fucking miners started buying out all 1070 cards too so expect them to be sold out or overpriced.
FYI the cheapest good 1070 was 384€ like 4 days ago, now the same card which is already sold out at a few shops costs about 410-420€. I read the same shit happens in the US, too.

Mobo is shit, get the ASRock Pro4 mATX. Get faster RAM, Ryzen loves fast RAM and price difference is marginal considering the crazy RAM prices in 2017, if your budget allows it get the 240GB version of the SSD and your PSU is dogshit.
As for the PSU get an EVGA G2 or Seasonic G 550W, both are great with good value. The GPU is good but the cooler on it sucks ass and the card is most likely sold out anyways. Consider a 1060 6G if RX cards are sold out which is 99% certain.

1080p gaming build.

This is the final version I came up with but I'm anxious to pull the trigger. r8/h8

Understood, I'll probably just buy a decent new one.

Thanks very much for the help again!... desu senpai?

Mobo is overpriced for what it is. Get the ASRock Pro4 if you want best value otherwise get the Gigabyte Gaming 3 for ALC1220 audio. Imho the rest is not worthwhile unless on sale.
PSU, no idea. Check Jonnyguru on that one. If you can get a EVGA G2 or Seasonic G 550W, shouldn't be much more expensive but both are so much better for OC.
Rest looks good, maybe add 1-2 case fans, Be Quiet Pure wings 2 are good and a SSD if you don't have one.
>1060 6G
>303 yuroshekels
That's a ripoff, get a cheaper 1060. Even the standard white 1060 from Asus is fine, Buildzoid reviewed the PCB and it's suprisingly good for a basic version. Idk about temps and noise, but should be fine.

Yo, recently built a PC for the first time, and every few days it randomly reboots, found the following critical error in Event Viewer:

Event 41, Kernel-Power "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Also, the Bug Check Code is 0, I'm not overclocking anything (not even XMP is enabled right now), and it has happened at idle, not under stress. Any ideas what it could be?

How am I doing so far? I feel I may be close to "pulling the trigger" on my first PC. Been a console gamer all my life so I am really overwhelmed by all the options I have.

How does this look and what do I change? I want to play Souls series, TEs, Fallout, Terraria, Overwatch, new genres, New Monster Hunter, I just dont wanna be limited much... But also not spend a fortune. $1,500 is my limit.

just installed a ryzen 5 1600 into a msi b350 pc mate motherboard, and the gpu only works when plugged into the x4 pci-e slot, and the computer stays black screen with no bios when the gpu is plugged into the x16 slot, any ideas on what might be causing it?

List looks fine. Did you try to run minimal setup with only necessary components and reseating them? Might help. Also check if EVERYTHING is connected properly, every single connector. Audio, power, controll pins, everything.
> or lost power unexpectedly
Check the PSU: http://deron.meranda.us/create/case-modding/avocet/water-pump/atx-power-bypass.jpg see if such an adaptor for the 24pin is included, the G3 has one, G2 should, too.
If nothing helps, try reinstalling windows, maybe something's wrong there, wrong driver or simply wangblows at it's finest.
If that also doesn't help something could be damaged, check all pins on everything, this includes the CPU. It's unlikely but it could be a factor.
If it's completely random, even at idle and the usual steps don't help it's basically you searching the needle in the haystack, it's frustrating but be patient and double check everything.
FYI: i once had a similar problem only that the PC died during load, some plug/pin was slightly damaged, look out for stuff like that. In my case it was the audio connector, never expected that.

Yes, the connector on the mobo was damaged, seemed like it was pushed in with too much force and damaged the PCB. Things so small are hard to find. Did you build the PC?
If so, did you notice some weird cracking noise, like wood or paper being torn appart? If so, that was the PCB. Some noise is normal since the mobo is not a stiff metal plate, obviously, but you should notice if it's too much.
>>
>>60889576
Yeah, I built it, but didn't notice any cracking like that as far as I remember.
>>
>>60889591
Shouldn't be PCB damage then. I'd say try the steps i mentioned, definitely check the PSU and if really nothing helped.. tough luck.
I hope it's only the PSU or some software issue. Biggest problem is that there seems to be no pattern to your problem.

I want to leave behind using a docked laptop as my main PC, and build a proper desktop. The mini ITX form factor is really appealing to me, however I'm a bit concerned I might be overlooking something and end up needing more than what that form factor offers. Are the drawbacks only the fewer expansion/memory slots or is there something else to pay attention to?
>>
>>60889487
Jokes aside, maybe you have auto updates for the OS? If it installed some updates while you were doing something it could crash.
>>
>>60889756
Fewer things to put in. Less ram, only 1 gpu, often less fan headers and less space for the CPU heat sink. What build and size are you looking at?
>>
>>60889756
I don't know why anyone would want those shitty cramps builds, it's a pain to put together.
>>
>>60889831
Something for general use, media consumption, and some light gaming. Not planning on overclocking either, so I think that the stock cooler that comes with a Ryzen 1600 will be enough, that seemed to have a pretty low profile.

I'll be building a separate NAS, and already have an external DAC, so I'm not sure what else I'd put it in other than a GPU. If I ever wanted to record my consoles, I figured I can just grab an external card for that. Not like the latency matters since I wouldn't be live streaming.
>>
>>60889931
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vnGjD8 would be a good start if the gaming is fairly light. The Ryzen mITX boards just aren't there yet and the budget gaming combo of 1050ti with a Pentium is always nice. The 1050 tu doesn't even need an extra power cable. Pro tip: get an SFX power supply with atx adapter bracket. More space for the other components. Look for silverstone or corsair.
>>
>>60890052
That looks pretty great, thanks for the suggestion. To be honest I didn't think to explore other case brands than fractal yet, the full aluminum design of that Lian Li one is pretty attractive.

As long as that GPU will handle madVR with reasonable settings (basically not the super intensive placebo ones) I'll be fine, gaming is just a nice bonus to have.
>>
>>60887418
A 6950 for 60 euro doesn't sound that bad, but fuck it'll be hot.
The 560Ti is garbage. It's worse than the iGPU in the G4560.

As for CPU.. you should really try to budget upgrading to AM4. The X4 955 will be significantly faster than what you have, but still like 5 times slower than an R5 1400.

You're talking about a 170euro upgrade. For that money you can actually almost get a G4560 system (CPU/motherboard/RAM), even if the iGPU is slower than the 6950 its CPU is way better. >>60887995 is right that the 955 and 6950 is going to be the best bang for your buck upgrade... but that GPU stopped getting driver updates a while ago, and there is no upgrade path with DDR3 that's worthwhile.
Ideally, a cheap AM4 build would give you the best future upgrade path so you're not in the same situation again.
>>
>>60888876
Ya. In the USA they're almost all sold out and $100 more expensive.

I bought 12 before the price went up too much.
Then needed 4 more and the best I could get is spending $420 on the ROG Strix OC 1070 since that was the best 8pin and the only one that justified its cost.

Miners might start buying 1080s and 1080Tis though. Not for Ethereum like the 1070s, but because Zcash keeps going up. The 1080Ti is at the point that it pays for itself in under 3 months mining Zcash.
