>>
So how bad are blues for gaming, exactly? Is it just the problematic double-tapping? Because I can't think of any games I play which require extensive double tapping, unless it's so bad that you can't properly strafe dodge but then that would actually be bad for typing. How is the general feel though? Anybody here plays games using blues and could lend some insight?
>>
>>60848787
Never had any issues with them. Besides in china blues are marketed as the gaymer switch and the chink e-sport teams seem to have no problems with them
>>
>>60848807
Kek, so what are reds marketed for in China?
>>
>>60848871
Chinks aren't stupid enough to buy that awful switch.

Logitech K120, always.
>>
why do they put legends off-center? legends on backlit keycaps need to sit on top of the led for obvious reasons but why does everyone put legends on the upper left corner on on-backlit keycap sets except on dsa profile
>>
>>60848935
>on-backlit
non-backlit
>>
>>60848532
I used to be massively interested in mechanical keyboards; the history of various manufacturers, various types of switches and its force curves, materials of keycap and methods of legend printing, artisan keycaps, diy artisan keycaps, spring swapping, soldering and desoldering my own keyboards, etc.
but you know what? I realized that I only need one fucking keyboard that just works, mechanical or rubber dome or whatever. Mechanical keyboards are time sinks and wastes of money, don't ever buy more than one, if you are autistic enough to fall for the meme.

Best non-mechanical for WASD/MMO gaming? Centered numericals, close F keys, etc
>>
>>60848956
You know that's why its called a hobby
>>
Is there a keyboard that exists with the f keys directly above the number keys without any gaps or offsets, like the choc mini, but also has a ten key? And the ten key has no gaps between it and the arrow keys or the home/insert/back/delete/pgdown/pgup keys? Basically no gaps on the keyboard but it's just all keys. Preferably something in cherry red, or gateron red/clear.

Blues have a hysteresis (how far you have to back them off after activation to reset) of 0.75mm while reds only need 0.1mm. Except you can't feel the actuation point on a red switch so the smaller hysteresis is unfeasible to take advantage of.

Browns have hysteresis about the same as reds and would in theory allow you to feel and float at the actuation point for multi-tapping. Except cherry tactility is complete shit so they're nothing more than sandy reds in practice.
>>
>>60849079
they all mostly follow the same recipe

1.75u shift and 1.5u/1.0u bottom row are fairly common or you can get rgb/cmyw modifiers

the right hand side keys you can use with improper profiles (excusable because they are "special" keys which don't have the same ergonomic needs as the alphanumeric keys) or blanks or a flat profile

Its a buckling spring over membrane. That's why it has 2kro and a lower life cycle then cherry MX switches. The model F was a capacitive buckling spring, but the only ones with a somewhat normal layout cost close to 250 bucks
>>
>>60849108
This may surprise you but not all membranes are rubberdome over membrane. The model M is a mechanical membrane keyboard.
In a similar vein the model F is a mechanical capacitve keyboard, and Topres are capacitive rubberdomes.
>>
>>60849253
And to be specific, cherry MX is electro-mechanical.

The closest you can get would be the kmac mini which only has 1 nonstandard key depending on the layout you choose. The F keys are on the left instead of on top, which some people prefer since they aren't aligned with the number row

finally got my hands on a m0110

why does everyone cum over vintage alps, these tall creams have terrible stabilization. if you try to depress them on the edge of the key, the travel becomes very resistant. modern mx browns are 10x better at this, you can apply force at the very edge of the key and its still as light as if you pressed the very center

Are there even any other keyboards with the Pro M's layout? I've been wanting to get a smaller keyboard, but don't want to go full TKL because I use the numpad quite a lot.

I'd get TKL with a separate numpad before I bought one with meme LEDs. But I'd also rather just keep my Filco before I bought TKL.
>>
have das keyboard with cherry blues

want something less clicky but still tactile and without the arrow keys

will probably end up with browns
>>
>>60849558
I think there have been keyboards with similar layouts, but the Pro M is the only one that is easy to get.

The biggest problem with numberpads is that most of them aver very limited in their programming and a lot have terrible key-codes or layouts.

I've been considering just programming my own numpad for a while.
>>

>>
>>60849602
nah man i did a fun little project with browns and reds mixed in and there's the smallest difference, and when you type fast there is no difference at all, browns reds and blacks are complete shit
>>
>>60849633
My colleague uses reds for typing.
I'm used to typing on browns, and every time I have to type something on his keyboard I just cringe... It feels horrible.
When you're comparing them side by side, yeah, there's not a whole lot of difference, but when you use one switch for hours on end, then move to another, there's a massive difference.

Not really corsair has LED problems, and has some of the second worst stock keycaps. Its not the worst, just second worst. They'll end up looking like pic related after a couple months since they are thin laser etched ABS. The worst part is that since they are nonstandard finding good replacements is hard and if you do, you'll end up paying more for limited options. The build quality of the case isn't that impresive since only the top pannel is alluminium like most chink boards while the rest is plastic. A shine 6 is cheaper and has much better build quality, with even more software features. Corsair software is littered with bugs and some macros will even crash the keyboard requiring a reboot. In the corsair marketing blurbs they make a point how the RGB software can let you play snake since its so advanced. But the cooler master pro can also do that, and its much better since the software is easier to use. The cooler master keyboard is also cheaper and has better build quality then the corsair

Fuck. I don't know how you can stand it. I was close to snapping with the squishiness of that keyboard at work. Not even shitting on it for being non-mechanical. I found an old Silicon Graphics membrane keyboard in a common area and just swapped the HP for it. So much better. No one complained because I'm assuming they thought their shitty old SGI keyboard was upgraded to a snazzy new HP squishfest.

Nothing in particular. Thought about getting a Ducky One with Cherry MX Blues and donating 2 or 3 of my current boards, but then I remembered I don't really care for blues and the buckling springs already covers my tactile click switch.

My first mechanical keyboard were MX Browns because I didn't know shit and wanted a babby's first keyboard. Now I'm typing on it again and it's not bad. I don't know if I should keep it or not since I already have too many boards.

What about Gateron browns? Are they better than "just sandy reds"?

I'm trying to see if I can not compromise on typing while still being able to game properly. Judging by the replies I'll probably just go with blues - and if it's really horrible, get myself a gamepad like a logitech g13 or something, but or sounds like it will be fine.

Thinking about a Varmilo VA87M. They come in Cherry and Gateron switches.

I'm coming from an old Apple Aluminum scissor switch keyboard and like it's actuation force of 80g, never had problems with fatigue. I tested MX browns but they are way, way too soft and light, can't feel the tactility at all. Blues are okayish (I guess the additional auditory feedback makes it feel a little more tactile) but I'd prefer a little more resistance.
Unfortunately I couldn't test Clears and Greens. Going by force diagrams it looks like Greens are more similar to what I'm used from the scissor switch keyboard while the Clear's tactile bump looks really mushy (or not sharp, elongated on the diagram).

Opinions?

Diagrams:
Scissor switch: http://www.ergopedia.ca/images/key_force_comparison_graphs.jpg

>The tactile bump is basically nonexistent on Gateron browns.

Granted all MX-style switches have shit tactility compared to real tactile switches, but Gat browns have a more pronounced bump like on Cherry clears.

>>60853307
Their linears and tactiles are buttery smooth and highly regarded, but their looser mfg tolerances aren't appropriate for the two-part sliders in clicky switches, leading to large inconsistency.

>>60853348
>Smoother browns is nothing but disaster.

They're objectively better than Cherry browns. The bump is actually larger and the smoother slider travel means the sensation of the bump is more pronounced than it would otherwise be.

Speaking from personal experience I've used most cherry switches *Not green*. I personally love clears because they are stiffer browns, and my biggest problem with browns how light the actuation is. They do not feel mushy nearly as mushy as browns, and are very easy to touch type with. I would recommend.

>If you want blues stick with cherry instead.
But the keyboard I'm looking to buy only has a choice of gaterons. This is literally babby's first mechanical keyboard - I've only used a shitty gayming mechanical which probably has reds at a friend's house a couple types, and never extensively used any mechanical switches.
Are gateron blues still worth avoiding, or will I be fine since I don't know any better?

I'm really torn between blues and browns, but I'm leaning towards blues from a general perspective (i.e. kinda want to get a clicky kb). Should I forgo that and get the browns instead purely due to the fact that they're gaterons?
>>
>>60859694
get the gateron blues. there's nothing wrong with them.
>>
>>60859731
I actually just had my switch tester delivered and the gateron blue seems slightly less tactile than the cherry blue, despite the clicks being quite similar, the effect being that it seems like it would be easier and more comfortable to only press the cherry up to the click (because you have the tactile bump there) than the gateron (because the bump is much less pronounced and you, or at least I, end up over-pressing and bottoming out).

Is this just me being autistic? (Could very well be just confirmation bias since I was just told gaterons are worse, especially since a single switch is in no way representative of the typing experience.)

There is a TKL buckling spring. The nice thing about it is that it uses a slimmer case then the normal model M. If you do want a 60% buckling spring those do exist as either a new production 4704 model F, or a moded unicomp.

I have it. It's decent. If you get it for $20-25 it's a good deal. The LED's aren't super bright, the keys don't sound very mechanical, and that wrist rest is near impossible to remove once you clip it in.

The LED's are either on or off, no variation. The volume knob is super convenient though.

I was moving my stuff around and accidently broke one of the risers on the back so I can't prop it up anymore.

7/10 keyboard. You can probably get better chink keyboards though for the price.

Right, so if I ever want a small buckling spring without too much hassle, I have until the end of this month to order.

Could I expect the resale value of these to go up, or at least not fall, once the production run ends? I might actually get one if I could have the option of getting most of my money back if I end up feeling like it's not really worth it and getting buyer's remorse. Or am I being an idiot and falling for an epic meme?
>>
>>60862269
Don't expect to double your money right away. It would take atleast two years before that happens. Also the whole project will be made available to public after its shipped, so it is possible for someone else to come along and make his own version

>>

Forgive me if I'm being a retard, but since the original ibm designs are not patented anymore, what research was involved?

>Set up the tooling
Now I'm definitely being a retard, but if everything is set up for production, why the highly limited run?
>>
>>60862449
the activation on a cherry switch relies on physical contact which completes an electrical circuit. the activation on a model f buckling spring switch is capacitive.
>>
>>60862488
i wouldn't imagine that the patents go into very much detail about the production process and there are many other things that go on "behind the scenes" like choosing the backplate material and thickness and so on to get a faithful replica

the limited run comes down to funding. if he could pay the factory millions of dollars they could make a lot of keyboards but he wouldn't be sure if he could sell enough of them to get a return on his investment. but the factory might make a bunch of extras while they're at it to get a bigger profit for themselves or a chinese businessman might pay the factory to make some for him.

Oh hey me too, finding a keycap set is going to be a bitch. Also if you know that the boards are above avg quality why are you shitting on it then?
>>
>>60864392
$500 and its yours. Bolt modded of course :^)
>>
>>60864402
Cause you're a faggit. There's nothing wrong with cheap keyboards like the james donkey, or even the ajazz. Just you and your cancerous discord community. I mean it from the bottom of my heart: Fuck off!
>>

>There's nothing wrong with cheap keyboards like the james donkey
There is, it's ugly.
>>
>>60864452
for $30 beggars can't be choosers
>>
>>60864435
uh yeah there are nothing wrong with them. What discord are you talking about? The fags at /csg/? My complaint is people are shitting on a clearly above avg board.

>>60864408
Not when this exists.

I've already gotten one from there after an anon linked it a while back. To my surprise it actually came in and works.
Im thinking about doing the bolt mod. How hard is that to do btw?
>>
>>60864469
how much was shipping?
>>
>>60864464
I'd buy Redragon with Outemu switches instead.
>>
>>60864530
You would rather get a shitty board then an above avg one? Alright, your own dumb mistakes then.
>>
>>60864559
I'd pay for inferior product that not hurt my eyes.

Thats one of the worst keyboards out there. I'd get the tomoko instead if you wanted something in the $20 range.

>A keyboard literally hurts your eyes
wtf are you? 5? autistic and 5? Considering you buy a keyboard to type on you would buy a keyboard that would have superior switches. How about paying more for an aesthetic you like, poorfag.
>>60864575
tomoko are shit...

what is different between the brown one on black vs the brown one on what appears to be clear
>>
>>60865238
top row are all cherry brand?
bottom left row look like gaterons

I believe gaterons require a bit more pressure and feel smoother compared to cherrys. both have a tactile bump.
>>
>>60865400
oh ok. i use the cherry browns and was thinking that they'd be even beter if they were harder like blacks. so would you suggest rather using brown gaterons?
>>
>>60865672
difference would probably be negligible. I was trying to look up the force required for activation, but they look the same. 45g.
cherry browns = gateron browns
