>Tree views are underrated. In particular a simple text editor with hierarchical management like GJots2 has been a huge improvement for me. Write unrelated stuff, take notes, switch positions, all things that are simple but sometimes are not done simple enough in other applications.
Seems like a good way of *entering* knowledge but how about annotations, tagging, search and retrieval? Also, sharing? Revision management?

>Another huge improvement would be using a LaTeX editor with this tree view manipulation, something like LyX, and maybe image embedding.
Sounds good. I installed LyX too and it has some revision management which is good.

>But serious work can be done with a simple text editor with simple outliner functions. This is why I plan to learn vimscript to write a simple plugin for this but without heavy dependencies. Dependencies was what turn me off when I saw VOoM (Vim Outliner of Markups), I don't want an specific python library just for this task, I want the power of vim with a simple and fast way to save nested text in a hierarchical organization.
I am all for simplicity and text storage. Databases, while fast, are also hard to recover after a crash and somehow I have landed in a lot of SQL implosions. Ugh. Also text make sit easy to craft own tools. I have done a few in awk which have been plenty fast enough.

>Samefagging whinetard.
First of all, the majority of this are apparently either fine with cyberpunk culture, or came here for both cyberpunk culture and computer security.
So, your argument is baseless and one-sided in favour of pretty much only your perception.
A perception which is faulty, might I add.
Considering the fact that cyberpunk and cyber security go hand in hand, consider the following:
We live a world which grows ever nearer to the cyberpunk genre (high tech, low life) and in this world and the world that will come, cyber security will become ever more important to protect your data, freedom and others.
So, yes, you Nimrod, they go hand in hand.

Also, to add a caveat:
If you dislike it and wish to 'undo' the merger, then you are WELCOME to create your own /sec/ thread, without the /cyb/ content.

What is even your argument? You seem to have none, considering the majority of the thread don't agree with you.
Go and live in your elitist MUH PURE computer security thread then, buddy. :)

>u look dumb as fuck
You can't even see me you retard, what a shitty metaphor.

And the terms I used are correct.
A diatribe is:
>a bitter, sharply abusive denunciation, attack, or criticism.
However, it is isn't truly that as the whole thing is baseless nonsense without any argument attached, therefore 'faux'.
Faux meaning:
>artificial or imitation; fake.

So clearly, I am smarter than you at least.

Now, if you can pick up your teeth and return to your /sec/ thread, I'm merciful.
>>
>>60858144
>that poll can go wrong in so many ways
I know, that was a calculated risk. Still, if someone wanted to spend a lot of effort to spike the results one would have expected a huge skew in the results yet what we see is fairly uniform and not unreasonable.

It does however differ a bit from the 30 posters in here which may mean the posters and voters are different groups which in turn could be explained by time zones. Given another 20 hours will let us see that.

Also: there are many ways to see if statistics are manipulated, that is how the Greeks were caught out.

Reminder:

- waste water handling
Wtf, they don't show those details in normal apartments either, they're behind walls or under the floor or some shit.
- clean air handling
- temperature and humidity control, especially for the computer rig and the toilet
The first could be the fans and pad-like thing next to the stack of books, the second too, or it may be controlled through the computer, or just always automatically set.
- no shower, bathroom
The shower is in the corner of the bathroom we don't see.
When he showers, he shuts the toilet, locks up the toilet paper and just let it flush all over the bathroom. Probably a drain on the floor then.

What a dumb strawman image. It's not like Apple is the only phone company in the world or something. The other complaints aren't even comparable to the first. Complaining about the lack of features (seatbelts in that case) in a product is not the same as complaining about corporate ethics while voluntarily supporting the company.
>>
>>60863997
The flaw is that it reduces political criticism to consumption, and not the power structures that enable oppression to begin with.

It's like shitting on an abolitionist for wearing cotton, or eating sugar.
>>
>>60863930
Just what are you even trying to imply. That society hasn't been improving consistently for the last 200 years?
>>60863957
Just because there is a means for production doesn't mean there is an incentive, and once people basic needs are met, What purpose is there to improve? I will give you one thing, you have a lot of faith in the ideals of mankind.
>>

Well if you are paying a company while simultaneously bitching about their ethics when there are plenty of other options, you are indeed a hypocrite. It's valid criticism.
>>
>>60864022
>once people basic needs are met, What purpose is there to improve? I will give you one thing, you have a lot of faith in the ideals of mankind.

>>
>>60864034
>It's valid criticism.

...that doesn't negate criticism of a company, because consumption doesn't matter at all next to capitalism itself.

>>60864059

It's one thing to criticize the entire system. It's another to criticize a business you are voluntarily supporting.

>Trade resources and services, instead of currency.
Currency just exists for convenience. It's a pain in the balls to barter all the time. There's little you can do when you want something from the potato farmer wants something from the blacksmith, but the blacksmith isn't interested in 100 pounds of potatoes.
Tons of ancient societies developed pseudo-currency systems because of this. The Celts traded arm bands made of precious metals for things. Other cultures traded strings of beads, pelts, or even sea shells.

Favourite: that we get more opportunities. Or hopefully we will. Most generations have had a better chance than their parents though with the financial crisis I am not sure. It depends on when we get out of this hole.

Least favourite: A lot of needless muddling through things where appearances count for more than facts.

Since it measures traffic I think one should classify the types:
- autonomous: Windows updates, telemetry etc. Not much to earn as MS hasn't (yet?) started loading the update tools with ads.

- semi-autonomous: people using MS infrastructure for XBox and other things not thinking much about MS.

- fully interactive: Bing, news sites they own, traffic to companies they have bought etc. That is probably far ore diverse than the other big companies (Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google)

That's the thing, though: MSN was listed explicitly separate from Microsoft, in which case I'd expect eg. Bing to also be counted separately, but who knows I guess.

It just makes me wonder if eg. Microsoft and Amazon aren't overrepresented because they count for hits to Azure and AWS servers, which would put the numbers in a different light.

For an entry level position, probably a Sec+, CEH should get you some interviews. They don't really teach practical skills, but they show that you are interested in the field and are willing to put in the work. Also they're on the DOD8570 or whatever the number is so employers are looking for people who have those.

On the other hand, OSCP is very good at teaching actual 'hacking' skills. But its not on the DOD8570, so some (bad) employers don't even recognize it

im assuming using a public geoip database and matching the isp doesnt fit your requirements

first you'll want a list of the ISPs that serve the area
next find a complete list of IP allocations for said ISPs (should be fairly easy to come by)
now you'll need to work out which POPs serve the area
finally, match the ips to the POP

be aware that many isps don't operate with one fixed subnet per POP, so the data is likely to change

>>60860999
IP allocations are public information, retard. You don't need to "pirate" them.

For anyone looking to get into cyber security as a career, if you think you would be able to pass a top secret security clearance you should check out the Air Force or Air National Guard. They are desperate for 1b4s (see https://www.thebalance.com/air-force-enlisted-job-descriptions-3344422 ) and right now I think there's a 20k enlistment bonus for cyber. They also literally spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on your tech education, and pay for a bunch of certs. Plus a TS clearance is a valuable thing to have on your resume; I went to a cyber jobs fair last year and half the companies wouldn't give you the time of day if you didn't have clearance already.
