>>60668839
>>60668863
Polaris is very efficient as long as clocks are low.
If it's like 1225MHz or less, battery life should be good.
The RX560 power consumption is competitive with the 1050, for example. Pascal was a much larger performance increase than AMD expected, and they had to clock them too high to compete which killed efficiency on the desktop. But for laptops? At lower clocks they're fine.
It's just like with Ryzen. At 3.3-3.7GHz or so, they use almost no power at all. Try to go over 4.0GHz and they suck down power.

I don't think this matters, not even a little. Vega iGPUs better be totally amazing for this to change.
I personally don't play games on my laptop. It's got an Intel iGPU and it can play videos and show a desktop just fine. That's enough. It really is. If you want a gaming-laptop then you should get one with a dedicated GPU. Both AMD and Intel has missed with their iGPUs, specially AMD. They either need to be just good enough to show a desktop (current Intel) or competitive with a dedicated GPU (AMD has had the best iGPUs for a long time but they haven't been anywhere near as good as a dedicated GPU).
>>60669379

How?
>>60669633
You can't really make any assumptions based on that presentation. It was just marketing, really.
>>60669601
>Nvidia GPU
>no GSync
Dude NO
>>60669633
It's a good thing you can count the FPS with your eyes.
Already forgot the Sniper Elite demo running 60FPS 4k with a single Vega 15 days ago?
Of course not.
volta is going to blow the fuck out of vega
>>60669659
I hope you like waiting til February.
>>60669655
that was frontier edition
>>60669633
>$600 Vega is the same as $200 Polaris.
You don't actually believe that, do you?
>>60669659
>bigger Pascal
Eh. I already fell for Kekler refresh meme once.
>>60669670
rx vega is unironically december 2017
Threadripper blender demo complete in 13.04s.
my 1600x@stock = 32.54s
32.54*6/16 = 12.2
So TR runs at slightly lower speed.
Guessing 3.4~3.5Ghz All core boost.
While Intel's flamethrower will run 2.8Ghz.
>amd wants to compete against volta
Another Massive Disappointment
>>60669670
It's less time from now to February than from the Vega hype starting to the release of Vega.
>>60669589
It obviously isn't here as quickly as anyone would like, but keep in mind AMD is a much smaller company than either of it's competition. Expecting them to deliver everything super fast on a huge budget and BTFO both of them at once is too much. Really, it's good enough that they showed threadripper and founders vega taking on some rendering tasks. IMO Vega is still only at most 1-2 months off their initial schedule.
>>60669620
No, I'm just not retarded enough to fall for the SLI meme. Waste of money. Getting a 500GB nvme SSD instead. Also a 1800X, because I'm sick of living in the last decade with my four cores. I rarely do video encoding, but even for that it would be worth it. Fuck quadcores.
>>60669646
Marketing that made the product look like utter shit?
>>60669647
I'm thinking off hacking the display port signal to enable freesync on nvidia. As far as I understand, freesync and gsync both use a variable vblank interval. I just need to get my hands on some DP debugging or validation tools. Also I would buy gsync, but all the gsync monitors that have the same panel look like kiddie trash. I refuse to spend 1k on kiddie trash just because pojeet feel for the HBM meme.
I HELD OFF ON BUYING A 1070 FOR SO LONG AND THIS IS WHAT THEY GIVE ME
>>60669672
And Raja said RX Vega is faster for gaming than Frontier.
Or are you trying to tell me a workstation card with firepro drivers is faster in gaming than a gaming card with the same hardware and higher clocks?
this event should've been:
that asus laptop, damn dat thing's fine.
x399 mobos, working on stage -- well, somewhere in the background with live feed and a couple of heavily threaded benchmarks, exactly like they did during the last event where they teased the yet to be launched Ryzen
something more substancial for that raven ridge apu and bit more time in the limelight, that thing looked cute, they definentely should've teased it a bit more.
and a fucking photo of 4 way crossfire FE Vegas + threadripper. Dat shit is pure porn. It would be all over the place before the day breaks here in the west, especially if they had it on that new zenith extreme asus board..
now, that would've been a pretty show show even after the massive disapointment
>>60669699
>Marketing that made the product look like utter shit?
It probably could have been better thought out. People are making assumptions that it's at 580 levels, that's a bad thing .. I doubt they would even bother to release it if it were that bad.
>>60669687
Yeah, it looks like Threadripper is still on schedule to BTFO Intel's HEDT platform. Too bad we didn't get any pricing.
>>60669709
If RX Vega is a cutdown chip then AMD just gave a big fat fucking fuck you to the gamers.
Which is a good thing, I can't wait.
>>60669615
Wrong. AMD takes a performance hit from the patch as well.
>>60669687
You can't assume 100% scaling, neither AMD(multi die) or Intel (2+ ringbus)
Also we knew nothing about memory used either, but it's looking really nice.
>>60669659
You dont hire a poojeet to do a white mans job. They had the right idea hiring based Jim Keller, but Raja comes off as another bullshitter like many Indians in tech do. The fact Lisa did the Vega presentation and not Raja is indicitive that hes in shit.
There is no reason they couldnt have had a working RX Vega to show. Just one prototype with drivers literally working only for the demo game would have been enough. Supply issues or not, performance or not, just get it over with, people are going to resrent AMD over this .
where is the Freesync 2 with HDR
>>60669754
Well if scaling is worse, it just means it's running even higher clock.
But rendering tends to be very linear with core count.
>>60669687
It felt shorter than 13 seconds to me, got a timer from start to finish?
>>60669693
dude, they could've had a quite decent show with the stuff they already have on hands instead of this shit show they just put us through.
seriously, that oem butt licking had no place in that stage when compared the sheer potencial of threadripper and even the FE Vega.
Yes, please AMD leave gaming GPU market once and for all so everyone will buy overpriced green trash.
>>60669775
Yeaah, gamers are gonna have to take a backseat to OEMs, that's where most of the money is, and licking OEMs is what even Intel does, much less AMD.
You gamer fags think of yourself too highly for companies that have over half of their revenue in nongaming markets.
>>60669714
Should work for their marketing, you'd be better than the tomato cans working there now. 4 Vegas on an Asrock mobo and that fuck huge socket? Hnnnnnng. Maybe the press will get some pics.
>>60669755
I tend to agree with this. Computex is the single biggest PC tech event of the year, now they're saying wait for Siggraph?. There is absolutely zero excuse not to have Vega ready at Computex for at least a paper launch or even a new game demo. When the hell did Vega tape out?
>>60669773
Upper left corner
>>60669732
the no pricing announcement I can understand. there's still for the competition to maneuver and fuck them up.
anyways, this was a fail. i can't believe I hyped myself up for it as much as I did... again.
>>60669796
>Vega tape out
November 2016.
>>60669796
>at least a paper launch
then you'd have people whining about no availability again etc.
my guess is amd doesn't have HBM2 memory, they are satisfied to sell the hard- and software to professionals (which are much more strict, you could never pull a 3.5 in that segment), they would probably release a consumer vega if they could too.
>>60669859
Don't be fucking stupid, they're selling 8GB HBM2 memory stack cards BEFORE they're selling 4GB HBM2 stack cards, the former isn't even in Hynix databook for sale yet, and was expected end of the year, how does this show a supply issue?
>>60669859
People tend to whine much less about a paper launch than the scenario of getting no info. Nvidia has gotten away with it forever. Just fucking give people something, at this point they either 1) know where it performs and aren't happy with it but are still trying to figure out how to spin it/market it as a success and where to price it or 2) are actually nowhere close to successfully launching it to consumers (pick some reason).
It's either one or the other, there's no other reason a business wouldn't engage in some competitive sabre rattling at this point if they had a successful product coming up right around the corner. They have nothing in that market whatsoever so they cannot harm themselves.
>>60669932
We'll have a pretty good idea when founders edition launches.
>>60669687
I just ran it on my r7 1700(4ghz) thread ripper is about 42%. faster so the core scaling is not that bad actually but I doubt you'll get a 4ghz thread ripper. Most will probably top out at 3.8 maybe?
>>60669960
42%? You got 22 seconds there.
Autosaging and page six (for that anon that asked to wait a bit, you're welcome, asshole):
>>60669975
>>60669975
>>60669975
>>60669975
>>60669913
>how does this show a supply issue?
because the professional market pays more per card, bigger margins.
if they're confident in the hardware, what else would them keep from releasing the consumer version already?
>>60669986
Obviously drivers and stockpiling cards(which are shared by 2 versions of FE, and instinct, and pro SSG) to avoid a paper launch?
>>60669959
yeah, june 27th.
What's messed up is that the enterprise card will come up sooner than the consumer one. That should tell us that gaming drivers are experiencing some difficulties, since it's usually the other way around, with certifications and real hardcore Q&A for the enterprise variants...
>>60670017
Or AMD gives little shit about gaymen market, which sounds extremely reasonable due to gayming market rooting for NVIDIA monopoly for the past seven years.
>>60669932
>People tend to whine much less about a paper launch than the scenario of getting no info. Nvidia has gotten away with it forever.
and the last time amd did it everybody was screaming bloody murder. either way, people will whine about something, and in the end even if amd is on top buy nvidia anyway.
if they only can do a limited amount of cards might as well serve the professional segment first.
people will bench the FE anyway which is free advertising.
Reminder that no matter how good Vega will be, people would still buy NVIDIA.
>>60669986
>because the professional market pays more per card, bigger margins.
the fuck margins have to do with lack of supply. It doesn't matter how much they are willing to pay for something when that something has no supply.
you're trying to sound knowledgeable and failing miserably.
>>60670017
Nvidia released workstation/enterprise cards before gaming cards as well though? Just shows what's more important for both companies.
Gamers take themselves for granted, the world doesn't revolve around their bubble.
>>60670059
NVIDIA's revenue is 80% gaymen cards sales though. It's AMD can allow themselves to ignore gaymers and focus on consoles/ pro stuff.
>>60670080
Yeah, but AMD's revenue is pretty much all over the place, their biggest revenue is CPUs, and you just have to look at Intel's revenue to see how much a bigger market that is than GPUs
>>60670080
I dare you to go walk into a creation studio and look for how many AMD processors or GPUs you will find
Answer: none
>>60670103
Because their last good card was Hawaii back in 2013.
>>60670003
>drivers
gl releasing shit drivers in the professional segment, they're solid or amd is really stupid
>stockpiling cards
which buys much less cards at a much higher price
>>60670030
no they do not. Not because they're gaymurs at heart, but because the revenue are way bigger on the consumer devices. One anon once proved my baseless intuition that gaming meant nothing for nvidia wrong (I used to think of super computers and stuff, render farms, etc), and with hard numbers.
I do get where you're coming from but you are utterly wrong. Gaming matters for them. A lot more than you would expect.
>>60670055
fuck off
>>60670124
Gaming drivers are different from workstation drivers you twat, the former needs constant shader bugfixes(no thanks to shit engines) while the latter needs stability most of all.
What the hell does your second paragraph even mean?
>>60670059
Granted, but wouldn't you agree that it's at least a bit counter-intuitive?
>>60670138
>imma proofs you wrongz with a completely unrelated graph?
>>60670174
No, beats having to spend millions on marketing to dumb manchildren and hearing their useless whining compared to dealing with professionals that know what to do with hardware.
Smaller market, larger margins, industry respect and name is far more important than gaming cred and I dare you to prove me wrong on this.
>>60670132
>+200% datacenter
Lol, you were saying?
>>60670205
yeah, because who on earth would ever deal with whiny manchildren in order to grab a slice of a market capable of delivering ~6
billion in net revenue per annum (of which your competition holds ~5 billion).
just quit talking, you flaming moron.
>>60670229
that's yearly growth son...
You just have to look at the numbers and see which are the bigger ones, it couldn't possibly be any simpler than that and yet you failed, somehow.
>>60670272
Because AMD has limitless money to shit out both 20 products for the CPU and GPU each while doing consoles, right?
I hope you're joking, it was even known Vega was pushed back a few months so they can get Zen out sooner.
I'd like you to tell me which is more important.
>>60670321
AMD loses tens of millions every quarter anon
>>60670337
Their graphics division is profitable, their CPU is not and I don't have to tell you why that was.
>>60670337
Just wait for EPYC to WIN.
If they could even get a fraction of Intel's xeon market share they'd be in pretty good shape.
>>60670360
The company as a whole
>>60670376
Intel has 98% market share in servers so Its gonna be tough for them
>>60670388
And what does AMD sell besides GPU and CPU?
If their largest revenue maker isn't profitable, obviously they wouldn't be profitable.
>>60670413
The company as a whole loses tens of millions every quarter
Thus dismantling your argument of them having "unlimited money"
>>60670388
it's actually gonna be a tough fall for intel, as things are shaping up to be.
if intel doesn't amend her jew ways, they're going to lose a a very sweet portion of that segment -- to a competitor that used to have literally 0%.
>>60670413
their marketeers may be stupid as fuck, but their accountants are god-tier.
>>60669693
>>60669775
Yeah agreed.
They have enough Vega shit to show people. They just didn't.
Their marketing is so fucking bad.
>>60670413
They are paying off debt still. That's where their profit goes.
