The core-utils don't put GNU in front of Linux. GNU is actually the system; Linux, the kernel puts the /Linux to GNU/Linux.

Whats the best way to host a website off my computer? Its a blog / file server for music. Ive made the html stuff myself and ive set up the download links. I want to host it myself and uptime isnt at all that important, nor is speed. I dont own a domain, but i figured i could just take one of those free ones, or buy one. I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

Never used Linux before, but what's a good modernish looking lightweight distro? My research so far has lead me to believe Lubuntu, Linux Mint and Zorin are good options.

Still keep killing yourself.
The reason people "switch" from Windows is because it's free software. You don't even know what you mean with monstrosity, you just use Windows as a comparison, without giving any actual, technical reasons why it's "like Windows" (comparing an operating system to just one piece of software).

Mint (built on Ubuntu) is the most stable but not as secure as some other distros. If you're new to Linux or just want a very reliable system id go with Mint. Ubuntu would also be a good choice.

Publishers often refer to copying they don't approve of as “piracy.” In this way, they imply that it is ethically equivalent to attacking ships on the high seas, kidnapping and murdering the people on them. Based on such propaganda, they have procured laws in most of the world to forbid copying in most (or sometimes all) circumstances. (They are still pressuring to make these prohibitions more complete.)

If you don't believe that copying not approved by the publisher is just like kidnapping and murder, you might prefer not to use the word “piracy” to describe it. Neutral terms such as “unauthorized copying” (or “prohibited copying” for the situation where it is illegal) are available for use instead. Some of us might even prefer to use a positive term such as “sharing information with your neighbor.”

A US judge, presiding over a trial for copyright infringement, recognized that “piracy” and “theft” are smear words <http://torrentfreak.com/mpaa-banned-from-using-piracy-and-theft-terms-in-hotfile-trial-131129/>.

I JUST want to install arch on my second HDD.
I've tried to install it a million times today and my fucking motherboard wont show the boot partition I made.

I made a forum post on Arch Forums and that did not help at all. I don't want to read walls of texts and blog posts about shit I don't care about. I just want the fucking OS to work.

Anyway, I have a shitty gay-men mobo (Asus Prime B-350-plus) and a windows 10 on an SSD which boots in legacy bios mode.
I'm trying to install Arch on a separate HDD. Nothing works I tried making it EFI and bios and both ways the partition won't show up when I go to boot selection.

Please any help would be great.

Upgrade went smooth.
For some reason a faux start-stop daemon was in /sbin, and the actual start-stop daemon was named start-stop-daemon.REAL.
Had to change the name in order to start services. God knows why.

Didn't anticipate that I'll be left without NetworkManager AND most importantly networking.
Learning how to manually networking without google took me a couple of minutes lol, completely forgot the commands for it.
I hate wicd with passion. Setnet.sh turns out to be a decent tool for setting up WLAN networks.
Not really a replacement for NM but I disliked NM anyways, massive resource hog.

So far so good.
Now time to actually learn how to use sysvinit. Any good maintenance guides?

You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. swap partition does not need to be wiped, only set as "swap".
root partition will be wiped by the installer.
If you want to keep the stuff you have in /home just set it as "keep contents" or whatever the option is.

I want to squeeze more battery life out of my GNU Slash Linux laptop so I installed the program 'tlp' and have been using the battery mode while unplugged with its default settings

any tips on fine tuning the configuration

also, is there a way to have it kick in automatically when I unplug the ac? i created a launcher on desktop BUT the program needs root priviledges to run

i would rather it just kick in when i unplug the way windows power saver mode does without having to type my fucking password

I spent a whole day looking for stuff i think i need in my life. These happen to be a gtx1060 desktop, an s8+ with a docking station for dex and a few more things. These will cost me about 3k and it will take a long to raise the money.

When the time comes i'm considering installing linux on my old desktop. I do not know a lot about windows and, god, I'm completely newbish to linux. I only know that there are different distros.

What is the best distro for my occasion?

The configuration file is magnificently documented.
You literally don't have to even open a browser, everything's in the comments.

>also, is there a way to have it kick in automatically when I unplug the ac?
tlp configuration features two sets of settings for each power mode.
AC and battery operated. You can configure it per power supply basis.

this is seriously kind of odd

can't find kernel-devel for 4.10.16-200.fc25, it just gets one for 4.10.17-200.fc25

but my kernel ain't updating either

wtf I hate Fedora now, I have not done anything odd to this installation either

Not an argument

No it's not.

this seems overkill, I think I solved it by adding modprobe.conf to mkinicpio.conf
