he fell for the marketing meme. Swiss shilled the whole "mechanical has soul" line so that quartz wouldn't kill them and they could get a nice buck from subsequent servicing and repairs. Now everybody just spouts that line like a parrot.

The thing is electronic movements aren't even quartz, they rarely have an IC even.

>"I appreciate the movement"
>sure you do
Fucking this. I'm the guy servicing the movement right now, but I guess the guy looking at a 6R15 through a display caseback (when it's not covered by a NATO that is) once in a while appreciates movements more.

btw I'm done with taking apart the PUW, I moved on to my finishing my Citizen 7803A I think I got it this time. The day-date wheel deforms easily if the disks are obstructed, and there are absolutely no parts, apart from cannibalizing an expensive Leopard or Cosmotron.

Why would anyone drive a manual? Because it's enjoyable that's why.
>>
>>60595472
Yes because a balance wheel is the only component of a movement that is classic you got me there champ.
>>60595528
Don't use a marketing meme assumption as an excuse. Personally I find the entire complexity of even the most basic of movements very interesting. There is something charming, to me, about watch movements. It's not some Swiss bullshit, even the 2401b which was my first slav movement to disassemble, is interesting to me.
>>
>>60595972
>LOOK AT ME I'M SERVICING SOMETHING I CAN APPRECIATE THINGS MORE THAN YOU.

Please stop making assumptions and understand that people can appreciate things on different levels and that yes, despite how many assumptions you make, other people can like what you like too. You're not special.

I kinda feel you and >>60596113 don't really know what an electronic movement is exactly.

>>60596113
A transistorized watch will likely be far more complex than your handwinding shitter, kid.

>>60596143
>people can appreciate things on different levels
Yes, a way lower, more base level than me.
>>
>>60596193
No I GET what an electronic movement is. Part of the appeal to me of mechanical watches is the fact that they don't require batteries or electronic components. Can't you understand that the engineering that went into the watches gives it a superiority over electronic watches for someone?

you're not impressing me with the servicing either. You have NO idea what level I appreciate things on and don't try to assume either.
>>
The whole "appreciation of the movement", how is it even supposed to happen? Do you understand that work went into it and you say: "wow, this is pretty complex stuff, huh", which I can do with everything from cars to nuclear plants. Does the movement gives you fuzzy feelies in the stomach? I legitimately think it's mostly posing and "I'm better than you because I appreciate the movement and you, plebs, only appreciate the dial" logic
>>
>>60596273
See that's exactly what I don't want to give the impression of. I'm simply saying that I've taken apart a few movements and it peaks my interest on how it all works together. It's something I really like.

The service guy claiming how much he appreciates it is being ridiculous
>>
>>60596261
>You have NO idea what level I appreciate things on and don't try to assume either.
sure bro, don't worry, you'll be able transcendentally appreciate your 7s26 from the next plane of meta-appreciation. You're pretty much an appreciation wizard at this point
>>
>>60596302
I am not claiming things, you are
>>
>>60596273
I think mechanical watches are neat. And yes, I also think cars are neat. And microprocessors, although I don't really know how those work.
I find compact self-contained machines really fucking cool. And among those, I find mechanical watches much more interesting than quartz watches.
It's cool if someone doesn't give a shit and only appreciates dials. But I think they're missing out.
>>
>>60596261
>Can't you understand that the engineering that went into the watches gives it a superiority over electronic watches for someone?
Yes, your slav shitter and your 7S26 took soooo much more effort to design and make than an Accutron or a Ventura.
>>

$300 has full ss casing.
and i really hate that red fucking line
module is the same
but gw5000 feels great on wrist
>>
>>60600578
Same, if that red line weren't there it would be a great watch.

Heres an alternative if you can stand reverse displays. But again its $200. Did Casio intentionally make good watches high priced, then make an ugly watch low priced with the exact same components? I cannot imagine a full SS casing justifying a $200 increase.

SS casing?
>>
>>60600689
Stainless steel casing. For a G-shock, I would assume the plastic, or resin, cases would be more durable, right?
>>
>>60600391
I think I got it now:
-The Hand with the red tip at 12 o'clock is the shows the seconds when the chronograph is used.
-The one at 10 o'clock shows the minutes for the chronograph. Up to 30 minutes.
- The one at 6 o'clock show the hours of the chronograph - upt to 10

And I guess the hand between 7 and 8 shows the actual date. So it must have been the 19th June on this image.

Why would the use 30 min and 10 hours, is there a reason to this?

Nice. So its a stainless case, and doesn't have a red line.
>All this said, the comparison also reflects very well on the GWM5600 and what a bargain it is.

He also mentioned the Veblen Effect. I learned a new thing today. Seems thats what a lot of watches are; they cost more so the owners are convinced they are better.

It is a stainless case with some sort of black coating (anti scratch) it looks like new after 3 years. But since it's ss it has non g-shock feeling. weight is just about right. i think this is my final watch.
>>
>>60600904
I don't doubt that its a nice watch, but a backplate isn't likely to get scratched. A weightier watch is nice, but I'm asking about the actual performance; isn't a plastic case going to simply be more durable?
>>
>>60600954
i really don't care about scratches.
steel case is always better option and after all, the watch is a classic. but just go for GWM5610 if you can't afford this one. the module is the same. i just don't like purple solar cell and the red line.

forgot to mention that GW5000 has softer resin, but you can buy that separately.

It sounds like you've got your shit together and financially responsible, and I'm in a relatively similar situation as you so here's my line of logic on it.

Its a piece of jewelry that only serves to announce how much you've spent on it. Its conspicuous spending and you'll never get that money back.

If you really want one, then who cares what others think. Is delaying your retirement, home improvement, sports car, whatever else by $5-10k (whatever to Rolex costs) worth it? To me, no its not. But I can see why people like them.

Rarity mostly, and the fact that manufacturers like Citizen aimed for the top right away (though I got my top-tier 1974 Cosmotron for only about a new Seiko 5).

In theory they could have been made cheaper than any mechanical though, for example the geartrain has no load on it like on a mainspring driven movement, so it can be completely unjeweled and still last forever. But most manufacturers (especially the Japs) decided to go full autistic with the new technology and made them chronometers instead.
>>
>>60608237
A real shame. To me the electro mechanical meme feels like a nice and interesting mix.
How easy is it to repair them? Are spare parts impossible to get?
>>
>>60608390
>How easy is it to repair them?
So far they're a bit tricky due to having unique solutions for even the mechanical components, and electronics needing to be handled completely differently than metal parts. But I guess after my fourth of fifth restored movement they'll be as comfy as mechanicals

If you're going to get a Steinhart, consider a Titanium 500 or an OVM if you're looking at divers.

Today I changed the battery in a fake ladies Seiko. Ironically it had a Japanese Miyota 2035, instead of the expected chinkshit. The chinks might as well just used a Seiko PC21, I think it's even cheaper than the M2035.
>>
>>60609840
I had a quick look at a Titanium Steinhart that a guy at work owns and it seemed pretty nice. I wouldn't get one of the direct Sub homages though personally.

It's kinda industry standard to write 0 jewels on unjeweled movements.

Apart from chinks of course.

I have one of these, only no bracelet. Recommend me something /wt/, right now it's on a brown perlon.

Case shape is that typical "grammar of design" 45KS-style.

Quite nice, especially loving the Seamaster quartz, fucking sexy on a perlon, dude. Don't really like the CoWard and that Tag Heuer though.
If you personally like them, that's a nice collection.

AliExpress has quite a selection of steel bracelets in a variety of price brackets.

Thanks! I like the Trident because it feels pretty well built and is a sensible size at 38mm. The TAG just scratched an itch I had for a full lume dial. I'll probably sell both soon.

I prefer not to wear straight-endlink folded tuna cans for this watch.
>>
>>60612023
Totally different league.

The SDGM001/003 and now the SARX033/035 are finished to a way higher standard than the lower end SARBs are.

On my SDGM003, the case has five alternating layers of polished/brushed/polished/brushed/polished with extremely crisp transitions between finishes.

The dauphene hands are half brushed, half polished to maximize their contrast, the flats of the applied indices have a ridged finish in contrast to the brushed finish on all the slanted sides, the dial has both a guilloche and a sunburst effect, the bracelet is made-up of links containing five separate articulating links in two profiles with an alternating brushed/polished/brushed/polished/brushed finish, all the case and bracelet edges are much cripser and feature cripser finish transitions than the SARB.

Plus it has Diashield to reduce scratching and a double AR coated sapphire crystal.

I'm not exaggerating when I saw the case/dial/bracelet finishing blow away a $4,000 Omega Aqua Terra. It's absurd how good the finishing is on this thing.

The penis quartz is beautiful.

The Seamaster is not running at the moment I need to get it looked at to see if it can be repaired. I hope so as like you say they are supposed to be crazy accurate.

They have a 17 jewels decorated quartz movement, sexy as hell.

So a few weeks ago I was set on a Perpetual 39, I was about to pull the trigger on it until I saw it in person during my business trip to Singapore. It was a choice between it and these two. Now I am back to square one but at least I eliminated one choice.

My next business trip will be to Hong Kong in August, pretty much the market where used Rolex are by far the cheapest and the most abundant. My partner over there even know where to buy it for the cheapest possible price in the world. Its again down to two...

What do /wt/?
>>
>>60619016
Oh I almost forgot.

Explorer I ref. 214279 = 24,000 HKD used

Submariner no-date ref. 114060 = 45,000 HKD used

I might just go with the cheaper alternative since I love both equally. Its simplicity is why I fell in love with it, plus the bezel on it is flat instead of curved which is the only reason I didn't buy the Perpetual 39mm.

Dream watch.
Wish I had a spare $40K to burn on it, but sadly there are so many other things that my money would be better spent on
>>
>>60619420
True, I just spent $45k on a downpayment to a house. Luckily I saved $4k because I refused to pay closing cost and I told the owner take it or leave it. Not only that but my electric bill will go through the roof since this house comes with a waterfall pool. Also by the time it closed my wife said we need to go to marriage counseling so I might not even get to live here...
