Yeah, no. Crescent wrenches haven't changed in like 100 years.

The computing world is constantly evolving and changing, and software tools need to be updated accordingly.

The debate still exists because many people need additional plugins to get full functionality from deluge, it has memory leakage and is overly cpu intensive on windows (inb4 lel windows), and there is still no client that is as lightweight as uTorrent.

>>
>>60583328
The torrent protocol hasn't changed and Windows still fully supports it. So what's there to update? An open sores project made up of monthly releases containing unverified commits by unpaid, pseudonymous code monkeys hosted on insecure servers is not what I'd call a better option than a client that has worked flawlessly for millions of people for 7 years without a single security flaw discovered.

If you're uploading bad .torrents, nobody will be on your site for long.
>>
>>60581538
I tried both, and could not find a way to make either client download a file and NOT create a folder. If there's a way, I'll switch, but I just think it's inexcusable not to have such a simple feature.
>>
>>60586537
They are fucking public torrents, which means there is no actual reason for me to share them at all. Only utorrent is realistically affected also.

Though I agree with you, 64MB pieces are kinda pointless. I should just block utorrent from connecting to my client. utorrent users always DL at shit speeds anyway, so I have no reason to waste my upload slots on them.
>>
>>60586594
Your client can't open new ones? uTorrent can.
I find uTorrent users to be the best uploaders -- the most worthy of my upload.

>>60586639
It can but why would I want to? Rather upload to rtorrent, those are usually on either gigabit or at least 100Mbit connections. Also utorrent users, best uploaders, good joke. They have no upload bandwidth at all.

In some rare cases I've seen utorrent users upload to me at like 1MB/s which is nothing.
>>
>>60586641
You're sharing this stuff over P2P? Are you sure that's a good idea?
>>
>>60586699
Most seedboxes ban seeding to public trackers. So why would you want to share to someone who can't share back?
>>
>>60586702
There's this thing called encryption. Who in their right mind would share these things unencrypted? Also, my government doesn't really give a fuck about this unless i sell it

>>60586698
That makes two of us then
>>
>>60586744
I'm talking about an overall strategy now. Which includes private trackers. Since I can't block utorrent users on public trackers and not block them on private trackers, unless I use different client for each. No reason to do that.
>>
>>60586776
If you want to block your connection to >50% of seeds, have at it.
>>
>>60586760
It doesn't matter if the files are encrypted surely anyone can just see your ip as you're downloading them right?
>>
>>60586798
Good joke. utorrent seeds are very uncommon, because utorrent users don't seed. When they do seed they seed small files for a few hours a day at best.

On public torrents it really doesn't matter because the swarms have tons of Bitcomets and qbittorrent clients and DL slow as fuck anyway, unless there is a rtorrent fag on it.
>>
>>60581409
Why are you using it? Arent the free alternatives (as qBT) better than an outdated client like that?
>>
>>60586884
Go to a public tracker. Pull 100 torrents with one seed. Post results.
>>
>>60586824
How do they know what these files are if they don't have the key to decrypt them? We don't v& people and torture them into submitting the key here. Government doesn't waste their agents to infiltrate our communities. Unless there's money involved.
>>
>>60586912
If it has 1 seed, I wouldn't even try to DL it because I don't have a week. There are alternatives. Like private trackers or DDLs.
If you miss the activity window on a public torrent, you might as well just give up.
>>
>>60586971
>he only downloads YIFY
Meh.
>>
>>60586989
Whoa there faggot, who said anything about DLing movies? I don't even touch movies on public trackers. Movies aren't something that you can't reliably find on private trackers.

Same goes for TV shows. Those are so well covered by private trackers that if it exists it's on one.

I do, on my HTPC. And why would it be preferable to look at folders? Again, you're not making much sense.

Point is, it's a simple feature that's important to me (and others), and ignored by Deluge/qBit

i switched to qbittorrent. only thing i don't like is rss downloads. utorrent had a smart episode filter that would stop multiple of the same episodes from downloading. the best qbittorent has is an option to stop looking for new a set amount of day. that doesn't work well if several episodes are released simultaneously. actually a big issue for me, and i kind of wonder if deluge does it any better. otherwise, utorrent sucks ass. move on.
>>
>>60593805
How does it differ from qbittorrent's episode? I actually haven't used it since it seems to assume retarded scene/TVDB names and I mainly watch animu, which uses sane numbers. And my RSS feed usually only goes back as far as I need it to snatch recent stuff.

my problem i discovered recently was with the new twin peaks episodes. 4 episodes were released, but my feed also contained releases from several groups for each episode. with the utorrent smart episode filter, it keeps a list of each downloaded episode from a particular rss download filter, so you won't download the same episode twice from a different release group. if i don't know what release group will be uploading first, or uploading at all, then i can't filter specifically for that group beforehand so that it's the only one i download. i don't see a way to do this in qbittorrent besides a dropdown box to set the number of days to stop searching after downloading an episode.

>>60594133
Whatever "smart" means in that case. qbittorrent has an episode filter in the RSS rules, though as said I never found use for it.

You can also filter resolutions or tags you don't want to reduce the number of unwanted result (e.g. I filter scene shit). Or just make it add the torrents in pause mode.
>>
>>60594133
unless i had my shit setup wrong, i was getting downloads from multiple groups. hopefully i just fucked something up and it does work. need to look at it again.
>>
>>60594236
yeah, i might've just set it wrong. that's what utorrent smart filter does. that's what they call it. they also have a box to filter for episode like qbittorrent as well, so that's where i get confused on it all. i mainly use episode filters for my ratio, so i can just jump on a torrent first for whatever series i'm watching.

System region and the nightmares that follow are mostly for when you run more programs in the non-english language than you do in English.

Yeah no shit dude, did you even read the comment I was replying to? Bittorrent and utorrent are essentially exactly the same, and they have this functionality. Deluge and qbittorent lack this feature, and it's a deal breaker for me

Read the thread to find out.
Protip: conduct a few speed tests with different torrent files both on qbit and anything respectable.

If a torrent contains a file no torrent client will create a subfolder for it (including qbittorrent)

So is every torrent client shit?

Any way to get queue functionality in rtorrent/rutorrent or does it require manual scripting? I need to batch download but pi dies when there are more than 30 active downloads at once.

Deluge and qBittorrent are the only acceptable GUI solutions. You could, of course, configure rtorrent or aria2 to use a local web interface.
>>
>>60600324
I dunno about that, from what I've seen, deluge is much better at downloading than rtorrent is because it's more reliable at pacing disk writes.

2.2.1 is a botnet version. 1.6 is the last version to not be botnet since it was the last version before the buyout.
>>

>Why use anything other than Deluge
Because I like to use my RAM for things other than torrenting.
>>
>>60597721
AA2 won't even run if I don't change system region, that's the problem.
>>
>>60600480
Deluge uses libtorrent as the backend just like rtorrent, if you run it as a daemon then only use the gui to connect when you need to add torrents then it will probably use less ram.
>>
>>60600463

Bzzzt, wrong.

Deluge uses libtorrent-rasterbar. rTorrent uses libTorrent-rakshasa. Completely different things. All libtorrent-rasterbar clients are fucking trash.
>>
>>60600502
It will run with either Locale Emulator or NTLEAS
>>
>>60600480
My deluge only uses something like 700-800MB of RAM and I have petty significant caching. So I don't see what the problem there is.

I could lower the RAM usage to almost nothing if I wanted to.
>>
>>60600530
Two different projects name literally the same thing. GOD DAMN IT. Also I've used both deluge and rtorrent and they both work just fine.

1.6 is literally botnet since that was the last remote code execution exploit. 1.6.1 fixed it.
>>
>>60600565
They are not named literally the same thing. libtorrent is not libTorrent.

>I've used both deluge and rtorrent and they both work just fine.
Except for how Deluge can easily use up to 1GB or more of RAM to do something as simple as downloading and uploading data without user input. Meanwhile, with rTorrent, it uses a few megabytes at most.

libtorrent-rasterbar is awful and every client that uses it suffers from being bloated and/or lacking extremely basic functionality. If you want a FOSS client that doesn't suck dick, rTorrent, Transmission, and KTorrent are your only options.
>>
>>60599586
>he thinks I'm retarded

I open a torrent. It contains 3 files, the movie and 2 text files. I choose to d/l the movie only. With utorrent, I can untick the "create subfolder" box and a folder will not be created. I cannot do this with Deluge or qBittorent. Even if I d/l a single file, it STILL creates a subfolder that I have to delete. If they can't implement something as basic as this, then I can't use it.

Now, tell me again, why is that retarded?
>>
>>60600621
I have a feeling that you are exaggerating, but I'm not at home right now so I can't check how much ram deluge is using on my desktop.

2,2,1 doesn't have the checkbox, but you can do it just by taking out the folder in the path.
Looking at Deluge, it seems you're right. I don't see a way to take it out there.

>>
>>60598384
I don't even need to to know that you're full of shit since qBittorrent already uses my full bandwidth.
>>
>>60601120
Maybe on well seeded torrents. To be honest I was downloading obscure shit when trying to switch.
Same machine, same time of day, same torrent files, more than 100MBi/s of bandwidth free so it couldn't be one client hogging all the bandwidth (and just to make sure, tried closing the other client, speeds didn't change).
I guess if you have poor Internet or torrent is superbly seeded then every client manages to use the whole bandwidth.

No need to reinvent the wheel.
Host it somewhere that won't care about uTorrent's outrage.
