Something that is not busy as all hell on the dial, basically a simple diver type watch with perpetual day date

>>60525999
Holy shit, you couldn't have picked a worse brand to go jomashop-tier grey market route.

Joma don't hold stock; you'll likely be waiting for weeks to get what you want if you order. JLC join the cadre of makers that are inclined to discourage grey market purchases via servicing fuckery. Read stories about people that bought legit JLC from an AD and get treated like shit by richemont service?

Now no AD's got your back and your shit perpetually stays at the back of the service que as they have no incentive to prioritise you over those that have bought from their dealers.

Don't buy special delicate snowflake shit like JLC with servicing issues from junk grey market sellers; there are better grey market dealers out there that will act as proxy for you with the AD from which they got the watch from for cheap in the first place, so in that case there is a warranty, but it's just not in your name. Regardless, with a brand with as messy a servicing reputation as JLC, all these extra steps and hands the watch would have to pass through when there is a problem doesn't make it worth bothering with imo.

Pass, find a better seller, or save up and find an AD with good discounts (or buy used).
>>
>>60526696
>>60525999
Shit, my autistic rant still stands but your "discount jlc" pic finally fucking loaded for me (clover).

I still wouldn't bother with joma. The MB is simple enough that going to a more reliable grey dealer should do you. I'd pass on the shitters desu.

Any opinion/history on Helbros?

Two of them arrived just now that I got from Ebay. One is a mechanical that needs a new crown and winding stem (A. Schild movement, should be plenty of parts available). The other is an electronic balance wheel watch.

The mechanical ran a bit when I shook it a bit, which is a good sign. The electronic arrived ticking, with a battery in, but the hands aren't running, the geartrain might be stuck, I'll open it tomorrow at work, since I don't have any caseback tools at home.

Good condition on both of them, especially the mechanical.

What would be common causes of a watch simply stopping? A friend has some really old watch that works, but it can stop sometimes when crow up and it continues working if he gives it a nudge. Two of mine do the same sometimes, but one is just to cheap to deserve a service anytime soon, and the other one does that only when I use the stopwatch so I just don't
>>
>>60531976
Could be an infinite number of things. Are you looking to fix it yourself?

Could just be dirty, and in need of a cleaning and lubing. My little Moлния has to be jump started every time I start it up, but I'm not paying to service a $30 slavshit watch.

I am thinking that unfortunately I am going to have to buy small. I don't think my wrists are big enough to look good with a traditional sized diver on.

Actually had a Rolex fake Sub story a few years back.

>best friend and I went to a AD
>his dad bought a Subby Date for like $4k in 1992
>fast forward to 2013
>his dad now retired decided to give one of his sons a Rolex each
>he went and got them overhauled
>my bestfriend got his Datejust from American Psycho which he loved
>his older brother got the subby
>2016 turns best friend told me that his older brother got into a fight with his father because the subby was fake
>apparently he tried to pawn it for god knows what, he's been known to be a tweaker
>turns out both rolex were fakes
>today
>best friend now owns both of his dad's real rolexes
>apparently that was some cruel prank the dad played on both of them
>>
>>60535383
Not true. Older submariners didn't have the fat hands of today's models. It could still be fake, but not necessarily for that reason.
>>
>>60535585
Doesn't sound like a prank to me, sounds like he wanted to be sure they wouldn't just pawn the watch for drug money or something.

The older brother failed the test so your friend got both.
>>
>>60535592
The middle link part where the band connects should also protrude for Rolex of that era.
>>
>>60535612
Yea they're pretty old and his dad told him he's not paying to overhaul them. They still keep great time which is good. But he said instead of buying a new watch for graduation he will just pay to overhaul the Datejust next year.

It's not supposed to be a countdown timer, it's supposed to show time elapsed, Seiko have it on the correct side
>>
>>60535831
Yea, 40 minutes elapsed, and you hit the red 20 minutes telling you you're over 40 minutes since you set it. Which if you're a diver is about what you get out of a standard tank. A 20 minute elapsed time isn't very helpful.
>>
>>60535856

'Its function is actually quite simple: before a diver’s descent, the 12 o’clock bezel marker is aligned with the minute hand, allowing the elapsed time, up to 60 minutes, to be read on the bezel (which is why quite a few dive watches come with a particularly prominent minute hand). A unidirectional, ratcheting construction ensures that – if the bezel is accidentally moved – the time already spent underwater would be indicated as longer than actually spent, providing the diver with a safety reserve for his now more imminent ascent. The bezel/minute hand combination does not, however, directly measure how much air remains in the air tank, as still can be read quite often in press releases.

A standard scuba dive (in which the diver is equipped with a standard air tank) usually lasts 30 to 50 minutes, mostly depending on the depth reached and the shape the diver is in (basically, how physically demanding the dive is). This explains why the first 15 to 20 minutes on the bezel inlay are often more highlighted – the end of this sector theoretically indicates the point of return (exception: “countdown” bezels that mark the time of ascent). In order to correctly time decompression stops at the end of a dive"

TL:DR

The rotating bezel is designed to measure time elapsed.
Exceptions: watches with countdown bezel (used to indicate decompression stops)

Why bother
>>
>>60542412
>vibrations/shock get transferred evenly throughout body and objects (mechanical watch) touching your body during said shock/vibrations
>what can be done to stop this
Dont stress your watch. Or dont wear it during stress periods. Or dont buy a mechanical if you intend on doing anything except breathing (not too hard tho)
>>
>>60542359
How shitty are Rolexs if some vibration kills them? Even basic bitch Diashock absorbers can handle extensive angle grinding without losing a second.
>>
>>60543061
The watch can take the water pressure, in fact it's made to take it, but it's still not good for it.

Just like a sports car is made for high-performance driving, but it still causes increased wear.

In addition, a watch can experience peak water pressures greatly exceeding the 200m depth equivalent when diving from great heights.

What can it be? I prefer solar or automatic, clear dial with no crammed shit.

I can pay anything around 1k

Dressy or dressy sporty, but no crammed shit and "sporty" as in vintage militaristic sporty, not orange blue and yellow sporty with a rubber band.

I'm a wristlet, woman size

Old or new, as long as it's quality and looks good

Something for someone serious and professional and mature but not too tryhard.

I currently wear a casio gw-5610 but I feel it isnt adequate for higher end jobs

But is there a reason not to?

>stories about tards fucking up their springbars/straps because they leave their watches on while they sleep.
Yeah, those are bullshit.
>>
>>60544257
I mean spring bars are really cheap anyway. They won't break or anything unless the watch face isnt raised stopping you from leaning/laying on the bars, and the straps that would fug up would probably be cheap nato straps. Which is still really unlikely

You're in prime shitter territory for new mechs, I'm afraid.
Basically, you buy cheaper (<500USD) or 2k++. With very few exceptions, most of the stuff in the middle is filler junk. This filler junk, for the most part, is the same shit as the cheaper stuff, but you get ripped off more for it. That's all. Sure there are some exceptions, but not many.

If solar, go citizen eco-drive. Lots to choose from, all reliable and
>eregant

German:
For autos, look at the Sinn 556 - about 1kUSD. Smaller (38mm, if you're a wristlet, that's your max for a non-diver/sport) very legible and not flashy at all. For 300 extra you can get it on a bracelet.

For 1100/200 you can get a damasko DA36/34. I like it more than the Sinn, but to each their own. Strap only; bracelet is hard to get a hold of, and bumps the price up.

More germans:
You can look at Archimede for their smaller flieger, maybe up to 6-700 if you're into fliegers.

Swiss:
Shitters. Don't bother for the most part in this price range. There's some Mido's that aren't half bad for the price (Mido commander: has a retro sorta look you may not like, might be in budget).

Jap:
That Seiko Sarb everyone online froths at the gash for should do you well for something dressy, but has a bracelet too. Cheap cheap cheap and not too big.
There are some Orients that are nice too, but they're inclined to bigness now.

If I were you desu senpai I would save up more for something nicer. Get a neat ecodrive to tide you over (they last for ages so you can always keep it as a backup watch) for less than 200 and save for a used rolex explorer 114270, or that blue meme oyster perpetual new model that keeps getting posted here.

Save for the nicer automatics. Buy the quartz solar standby for now. I'm not familiar with what's available but there's sure to be something decent enough. Vintage you can do your own research; it's a minefield if you don't know what you're doing or looking for.

>>60544940
>1k is prime shitter territory for new mechs
I kinda agree, but what are your thoughts about the Seiko transocean for someone with an average 7" wrist?
>>
>>60544166
No. I was taught by my over paranoid mother to never wear a watch to sleep. I guess she was afraid of it being on too tight, or the wrist swelling in the heat in sleep or my wrist getting into a position where it would be pressured and the watch and band would dig into my wrist and cut off circulation. Whatever.

>decide to rebel when like 8
>wear casio terrorist watch to sleep
>wake up with aching wrist
mother always knows best, and I'm afraid of moths and coke cans in the fridge to this day.

>The Lies My Mother Told Me
I could write a book on all the kooky shit I was brought up with, but funnily enough, there's some logic to her madness.
>>
>>60544972
>Seiko transocean for someone with an average 7" wrist?
I've not seen that watch in person so I can't really say. But generally, 45mm is still pretty awkward big, even for 7" imo. Maybe it doesn't wear as awkwardly though? It's a case by case basis, really. Some small watches wear large, some large watches wear small. Add in the manner and dress of the wearer and one can only judge when it's on the wrist in question.
>>
>>60544972

It has integrated bracelet so fuck that.

I'm just wondering how you view it in light of the "1k is shitter territory" element (with which I largely agree).

I mean, it has a pretty good movement, but it's also found in watches 1/3rd the price.
But then it also has a completely ceramic bezel, AR coated sapphire, amazing bracelent, nice claps, and dat dial.

I decided to do my most Reddit picture yet, so r8 my NOS rubber strap I just got.
And the two West-German Helbros watches.
And my exactly 120 year old (srsly, year stamp is 97, with the companies 19th logo and font), and Billings and Spencer mini vice.

I also put in a screwdriver and an empty battery package for that extra watchmaker LARP points. And a Soviet Army pocket knife to annoy all the anti-knifeposters.

Polerouter is pretty often described as dressy sporty so maybe that's what you're looking for. Keep in mind you need to do your homework when it comes to vintage watches, so it being valid advice kinda depends on how deep down the rabbit hole you wanna go.
