>How to assemble a PC, select components & more. (somewhat outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Build_a_PC

CPUs:
>G4560 - budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>R5 1500x - generally all you need for 60fps with power to spare. No i5
>R5 1600 - best value for higher fps gaming & mixed usage; 1600x if you don't want to OC
>i7-7700k - bad value but good; may have heat issues even at stock clocks
>R7/Xeon - compute/Multitask/mixed use

Graphics:
>G4560 iGPU is fine for LoL, dota2, rocket league, etc
>1050Ti at ~$105. Drop settings if not Freesync/Gsync on newer games; RX560 if discounted
>RX570 4GB - 1080p@60+hz, running most maxed; older games at 144+hz
>RX580 8GB - 1440p@60+hz, inject SMAA & drop settings for some games
>1060 - Generally outperformed by the RX 580 and GSync costs more; consider only if AMD is not an option (ie CUDA)
>1070 - 1080p@144hz/1440p@100+hz
>1080 - 1080p@90-144+hz maxed; 1440p at lower hz.
>1080Ti - 1440p@90-144+hz; 4k@60hz in SOME games, more at lower settings
>Freesync2 & Vega soon

General:
>READ PRODUCT REVIEWS to see if that cheap SSD/PSU or whatever is reliable
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>Stop fucking confusing any M.2 drive with NVMe. M.2 is a form factor
>Go mATX form factor for cheaper board+case
>1 SR DIMM is slower than 2 DIMMs

BE QUIET! BK008 Pure Rock Slim

Any used this CPU cooler before?, I hate the look of the Evo 212, so looking for an alternative at similar price.
>>
>>60483842
Cryorig H7 is probably better. It's $4 more though.
>>
I didn't realize ryzen cooling comes with already applied thermal paste and I lightly touched it with my finger. Is it still ok or did I fuck up and I got reapply it?

I haven't tried it, but the review make the be quiet to be a few degrees better, and much quieter. Don't trust people telling you to go for a 212EVO, it's a 8 years old cooler, better coolers at around the same price have been released during this time. The Be Quiet is among them.
>>
>>60483897
It's ok, people do much worse with their thermal paste like spreading it themselves on the CPU (creating a fuckton of air bubbles in the process), yet it's fine;
>>
>>60483931
Ok, thanks got a bit worried.

I tried to install windows on an SSD but I ran into an error (error 0x80070570)
so after trying a few more time I removed one of the two RAM stick but I still encountered the error
I finally swapped the RAM stick with the other one and the windows install just went fine.
Does that mean the other RAM stick is defective?

The S340 Elite which I ordered only has two fans. Should I get an additional fan for the front, maybe even two? Or is it enough to change the top fan to the front like I've seen in one video.
>>
Z77 Extreme4
Intel Core i5-3470
8GB of some kind
970 GTX 4GB

Is there any real reason to upgrade my system? It seems to run most things at decent resolutions and frame rates. I was thinking of making it 16gb ram but someone said there's not point and I should move to Ryzen cpu+motherboard but that's a little too expensive for me at the moment.

(Also I've noticed my cpu temp is in the range of 70-85 degrees celsius with the stock fan. Do I need to replace with an aftermarket fan?)
>>
>>60484633
possibly yes, try blowing on it and cleaning it with a tissue or something (lol)
or try another slot, maybe it's a defective slot

>>60484660
if it doesn't have any fan at the front, it means it will suck air from any hole available which means lots of dust will get in from non-dust-filtered holes.
either buy one fan at the front & move one of the already existing ones in there too, or buy two front fans.
>>
>>60484682
Are those high temperatures new?
If so buy some thermal paste;
If you don't feel the need to upgrade, do not do it. Better hardware is always on the horizon (Cannonlake, Zen+) and the more you wait, the more you get.
>>
>>60484807
Thanks. Would suck if more dust got in there because the fans are missing. I think I will buy two for the front then. I guess they just left them out there because of the people who put water coolers in their case.
>>
>>60484660
I have this exact case it has a filter in the front and u can add 2 more fans the same same as the other 2.
>>
>>60484682
>I've noticed my cpu temp is in the range of 70-85 degrees celsius
Clean your fan and reapply thermal paste. I've had i5 2400 go from ~85 on average during load to ~50 during load.
>>
>>60484893
Ok, I will do that. A little bit confusing for people who are new to pc building. I first thought that was standard maybe and only got some doubts after watching some pc building videos.
>>
>>60484833
>Are those high temperatures new?

Not sure, only checked the temp recently, (after I've added a hot swap bay a week ago and the 970 a year ago.)

>If you don't feel the need to upgrade, do not do it.
I've been checking recommended requirements and my RAM seems to be on the low side.
>>
>>60484960
until you actually notice slowdowns because of lack of RAM, don't make any decision

So /g/ I followed these threads and I really don't know that much about video cards but I got a 1050ti for my PC and got this.
There appears to be some sort of tape over the bolt in the board of pic.related?

I really need to know what it is and if I can take it off.

>>
>>60485000
Then I won't, should I buy more fans then? I just have one at the back that becomes relatively loud when playing games.
>>
>>60485104
$50 for 1TB, $75 for 2TB, sometimes can find pretty good 3TB discounts at around $80

>how do you know when to buy a new hard drive?
when you're lacking space or when your games load slowly. Your 6 years old hard drive is very likely to be noticeably slower than today hard drives.
>>
>>60485117
Yes, you can remove it. Dont not use a knife or any metallic object to do so, you'd risk damaging your card with scratches.

>>60485132
It's becoming relatively loud because it's speed increases the higher the CPU temperature is. Once you change the thermal paste and clean the cooler, it will not be nearly as loud.
You can always set a custom fan curve in the bios.

What could 2 short beeps followed by another beep about 2 seconds later mean?
I had an issue with my pc where it started giving no display after having issues with bsod, windows in general and then not being able to boot at all, assumed it was mobo after literally troubleshooting everything except cpu.
Now that I have a new one I got another issue, it doesn't even starts, cpu fans start for some seconds, 2 beeps come from the mobo speaker, then powers down and I get another beep before it goes into the same loop.
First mobo just gives me no display but everything runs, all fans and lights.

I'm testing this on a anti static bag over the mobo cardboard box

I'm fucking stumped here, this happens even if I disconnect the cpu fan and the cpu has absolutely no marks of anything bad, it was also never overclocked and had temps of about 60 tops with the heatsink.

>>
>>60480831

I wasn't aware that that getting win 7 running with an amd cpu would be an issue. Are there any good guides for that?
>>
>>60485394
not concerned with 7200rpm just want more storage, and i you always want to be over rather then under when it comes PSU
>>
>>60485412
It's not AMD specific, it's Kaby Lake (ix 7xxx, e.g. i7 7700k) or anything Ryzen. And technically there's no problem with it, except from poor M.2 support and microsoft blocking updates to force you into W7

Here you can find a script that will remove the "blocking update" update:
https://github.com/zeffy/kb4012218-19

As for mouse & kb drivers in the windows installer, you'll need
1. a W7 iso (nope, can't do it on an already existing bootable key, need to re-do the process)
2. a specific software for this, i think Asus has one
>>
>>60485456
>you always want to be over rather then under when it comes PSU
That's true, but at worst that thing is gonna use 370w. With spikes at maybe 450w, and that's the worst case scenario.

At least drop that down to 650 - 700w or something
>>
>>60485494
i should also note im going to put in my current 1080 into the build for SLI. So 850w is just right
>>
>>60485511
Oh, it's all fine then
>>
>>60484660
As you've already been told. Move the back fan to the front, so you have 2 intake fans, and 0 exhaust fans.
The air will find it's way out, the case is large enough that it really won't be suffering much from too much positive pressure. The CPU cooler will also give the air an additional push into the right direction.

Place them high enough that one fan blows towards your GPU, and one at your CPU.
>>
>>60485225
That's the issue anon, none of the beep codes I've seen match the one I'm getting, two short quick beeps and then another one after a delay right before it enters the loop.
Then there's the other motherboard having a completely fucking different issue, I have no idea what's going on.

coolers wasted on a non k, get a ti for the extra 1gb if he is editing. get faster memory without gimmicks, seagate barracuda drives are better and usually cheaper. probs get a cd reader and card reader cause mm and editing
>>
>>60485879
For an editing machine & workstation machine, an R7 1700/1700x/1800x makes much more sense than a 7700k.
And you don't want a liquid cooler in there because of the risk of leakage, not to say it doesn't cool much better than high end $80 air coolers (2 - 3°C at best)

You might wanna get him two sticks of 16GB for upgradeability.

>>60485928
Remove all these fans, unless she likes noise or something. The fan in there are good enough and so is the CPU & GPU cooler.
Why that audio card? Is she doing any work that benefits from such a highly priced one?
>>
>>60485958

Ryzen here is priced about the same as anywhere else in the US. It's something I've been considering and trying to get her to think about.
>>
>>60485928
tell her to kill herself because that builds abysmal. why would you get a sound card past 2007 is a shocker. im semi sure this builds a troll.
>>
>>60485999

Audio card because she wants to do some sound work too, recording and editing that as well. I felt she'd be fine with on board audio but hell knows if she's grabbing equipment that'll need a card.

Case: NZXR S340 Optionally buy a couple of NZXT fans to match it with, otherwise just put both at the front as intake.

Don't get those cheapass deepcool fans, get proper ones, S340 comes with 2.

Sound card is really necessary? Especially for that much?

That toshiba is probably server/enterprise, so it's gonna be extremely loud. Make sure you get dekstop HDDs. Possibly buying more of them, if she's serious about video editing, and put them in a raid.

Obviously, don't get 7700k, get R7 1800x, or R7 1700 if she can overclock it.

Also a normal air CPU cooler is much better, even get something fairly beefy. At the same cost, you'll get much better cooling, and much quiter as well.
>>
>>60485919
Most 2 beep signals show a RAM issue, and I've tried several sticks on different configurations already.

Old mobo was an asrock h97, new one is a Gigabyte b85m ds3H since it's hard to find older1150 sockets around so this is the best I could get, after double checking the manual again I couldn't find anything related to beep codes.

>but hell knows if she's grabbing equipment that'll need a card.
If she needs a card, she can just buy it later...

If it's because you'll build it for her... Show her how it's built. Then show her how she would install the card, make sure you also tell her that she needs to clear the capacitors by plugging out the PSU from the wall, while still keeping it on. To then press the power button a couple of times.

1050 ti is objectively better. It really just depends on price difference.

Primary recording drive for 2160p or larger lossless or raw format videos, and even then you'd need striped or JBOD arrays to make a decent length video fit.
Or use them as .vdi storage for running a dozen VMs at once.
Or use them as a primary or tiered cache for a HDD/SATA SSD RAID array.

Good answer that I couldn't bother to give, assuming >>60488766 meant NVMe and not m.2.

Suffice to say, anything over SATA, whether RAID for performance and/or NVMe, rules out 99.999% of users needs.

>>60488849
No. More RAM doesn't make it faster. It just makes it slow down less when a game uses more VRAM than it has. You're better off turning of 4K textures when you can't even see the benefits from them in 1080p. No game uses over 4GB VRAM with 4k textures turned off. And even if they do, it still performs fine with something using 5GB.
Not worth it. Save your money to ugprade when you need to.

>>60488895
SATA RAID or chipset/software RAID can get fucked if you hand it more than a single thread of work. A single NVMe drive does better than 4x SATA SSDs in RAID0 in mixed workloads for that reason alone, since NVMe can handle requests in parallel. That's why it's infinitely better to use a small M.2 NVMe drive to store primary .vdi files than a more expensive SATA SSD array.
>>

>4k 60hz
You should be getting a 1600X, obviously, even if it's games that mostly just use 4-6 threads like Overwatch. Ryzen is just plain better when GPU bottlenecked.
>the worst SSD you can buy
why?
>1070
probably ideal for those games if you've seen benchmarks that show they get 60fps at 4K.

Chage to a 1600X and a smaller cooler like 140-180w TDP and use those savings to get a decent 1TB SSD.

>>60488915
It handles them about half as well as a 1600X. You're better off getting a 4c/8t 22nm Xeon.
>>
Is a Noctua U12S decent enough for a 7700k housefire, or would it be wise to invest in the D14/D15. I'm really lost when it comes to coolers, the chart here confused me even more >>60483919

Also, is Noctua the only cooler manufacturer that doesn't have a retarded installation procedure? People complain about Be Quiet and Cooler Master a lot, but what about Scythe? The Ashura looks quite decent.

OP here, thanks! This helps a bit!
To be more specific here, I asked this because once I got the money for it I planned to put two Samsung 960 PROs in either RAID 1 or RAID 0. I was in the stupid questions general asking if they were already NVME compatible so, I guess they are.

I also wanted to take a bunch of WD Reds together and put THEM in RAID 1 or RAID 10 so I could maximize my space and have my data as secure as possible. I'm not exactly looking to use regular SATA SSDs for storage but, maybe that'd be a better investment given the lower failure rate? Though, using them as purely storage while the 960s do their job for speed and performance sounds like something I'd need to think over a little more. Any ideas?

i have a lenovo thinkcentre with an i7. however, i'm not a fan of the case. i also have audio static issues that I suspect are either the motherboard or the PSU, as even a dedicated sound card did not get rid of the hissing and electrical noises (which i can even hear coming from the computer itself)

i'm thinking about harvesting the i7-3770, 480GB SSD, and 950 that I have in there, and buying a compatible motherboard, modular PSU, and microATX case to get everything sorted out.

The thing is, I suck at building PCs. I'm nervous about harvesting the CPU in case I bend a pin or some shit.

Wondering if it's worth harvesting the 3770 and 950, and moving it to a standard case, modular PSU, and non-OEMshit motherboard.

Good luck getting an lga-1155 motherboard that isn't insanely priced or has been abused first off. Secondly, the static is usually bad motherboard or PSU. So get new ones of those as well.

Lastly, there are no pins on Intel chips, their pins are inside the motherboard socket. If you manage to somehow damage an Intel chip, you're truly special.

Help, I need a small-as-possible ATX case with two 5.25 bays. No other storage required, in fact the less the better to save on space. Needs all 7 PCI slots though, and it has to be reasonably sturdy.

Cases I've considered:
Lian-Li PC-A05FN - Exactly what I'm looking for in concept, but the rigidity of the case is questionable (there's a youtube video of someone flexing it) and I don't like the idea of having my airflow go from back > front.
Silverstone GD09 - Shy just one 5.25 slot, I'd have bought this already if it had two.
Lian-Li PC-TU300 - Very portable, rigid looking, but lacks 5.25 slots.

Need a new AM4 board cause ASRock.

Looking at the MSI B350 PC Mate (pic related). Good choice for a single GPU setup? I have a 1700 and just want it to get up to boost speeds, not hugely interested in overclocking.

NVMe is not faster in real world use. You're an idiot.
For $130 you can get a 512-525GB SSD instead.

BIOS update to 2.2 bricked it.

I bought it from a dude new for cash cause he wanted to avoid a restocking fee from the vendor, and vendor wouldn't honor me with an RMA cause I wasn't original purchaser. Shitty situation but downtime is a higher issue for me than a $129AU board.

2666 is OC ram. When you run DDR4 at a clock higher than 2133, you are overclocking your memory.

This is what I have so far. I have an RX 580 as my first choice to pair with my 1600, but because of >Australian prices I've been thinking about either saving some money by dropping down to a 480, or bumping it up to a 1070 for higher performance. This will primarily be used for running games in 1080p/144hz, so I also looked at the 570 prices here and it honestly doesn't seem worth it.

I also need help picking out my case. I don't have all that much space left, so I'd like something a little bit more compact if that's possible. I looked at my options and those cube shaped cases seem iffy to me.

All in all, I'd like to know if I fucked anything up in my posted build. I'm mostly concerned because I want to get the most bang for my buck.
>>
>>60491936
Well, you're only talking from your user perspective according to what you see.
Also i wasn't talking about a 4/8 ryzen but about a 6/12 ryzen which is what i'm
comparing 7500 to and is also the best value for money option from amd.
Also you still haven't addressed multitasking and how that affects your performance,
unless you're used to game with everything else closed on a single screen setup
i do find that specific part of i5s being the biggest factor for them being a dead
cpu line-up considering their price in comparison to r5 1600.
>also, have fun tweaking your 3200mhz expensive ram to run at 2933
The only people that have been having ram speed issues are usually the people
that don't know how to do proper builds or properly update their bios while backing
up to not brick their motherboards.
All low-end b350 already have a couple rams listed being supported at 3200mhz speeds
just fine and many more to come in the next agesa update which is less than a month
away. The issues people are having with ryzen are just usual issues people have when
buying very new hardware while not knowing what they're doing.
>just to get 5 more dropped fps on your 60hz screen
that will also mean having 5 more fps headroom for more demanding titles that will allow me
to stay at high settings for a longer time in the future, it is also more than 5 fps when comparing
to a 7500 in an user enviroment(things eating cpu usage in the background) instead of a benchmark
enviroment.
>>
>>60492068
No, 2666 is considered non-OC on Ryzen in the 2 main DIMM channels.

>on a single screen setup
>what is budget

>usually the people that don't know how to do proper builds

>All low-end b350 already have a couple rams listed being supported
>a couple
see?

>The issues people are having with ryzen are just usual issues people have when
buying very new hardware while not knowing what they're doing.
so what do you call the usually hassleless and zero problems experience people are having building intel systems? are they wrong because they didnt get to mess around with their hardware a little more? it is their fault amd rushed its products so now they have to make them work properly?

>in the future
when ryzen 2 launches with no 4/4 lineup, 2 years from now

ryzen is for people who already have pcs (ivy and sandy bridge pcs) and *enjoy* troubleshooting and tweaking their hardware frequently. it makes pc building less like playing with legos, which i am afraid, might make people less prone to switch to pc gaming. hopefully ryzen 2 will be more user friendly and more approachable.

>>60492709
You don't have to be actively using the browser. It uses resources in the background. Lots on a 4c/4t.

I don't really know anyone that turns off their browsers, irc, discord, etc etc etc just to play a fucking game.
>>
>>60492709
I don't understand how this shit is an argument.

I change from an i5-2500k which has the same 3.7GHz boost as the 1600X's all-core boost.
It's 2 more cores, 3x the threads.
The difference is incompareable for me.
The i5-2500k would stutter all the fucking time, freeze up just swapping between windows, and would use 100% of an entire core trying to decode twitch at 1080p60fps.
The 1600X just uses 1.5% CPU decoding 1080p60fps on twitch and never lags or stutters or anything.

Maybe there's some fucktarded benchmark that shows the i5-2500k is similar or even better in gaming, but I don't see that at all. The i5-2500k was bottlenecking my 7970 that came out the same year as it.

Shills on /g/ repeatedly try to defend a 4c/4t, but I don't see it. Yeah I know a new one has higher IPC and blah blah, but if you are playing a game that uses 4 threads(most do) while also decoding twitch to watch on your second monitor, you suddenly have a fucking 3 core. Enjoy it, dumb faggot.
>>
>>60492736
likewise, i dont see my 11 chrome tabs eating up 50% of my cpu. if anything, you'd need more ram to keep it in the background and return to it seamlessly.
>>60492795
next time try decoding video on a kabylake cpu, instead
>>
>>60492945
>next time try decoding video on a kabylake cpu
why, when my 1600X does 1080p60fps using only 1.5% of CPU and one of 12 threads without wasting die space on a dedicated encoder?
Just perfectly illustrates how dumb that shit is and how it's better to just have more raw power in most cases.
Why would I get a 7600k that's only like 30% better than that i5-2500k when the 1600X is 3-4x better?
Maybe if Intel didn't keep rehashing the same shit every year for 6+ years, I'd have bought it.

>you'd need more ram to keep it in the background and return to it seamlessly.
I had 16GB of fast RAM in that system.

You are wrong, most Ryzen buyers do not heavily multitask or do heavily multithreaded things. The R5 1600 is just straight up a better choice over any i5, except from a few fringe cases. That's why we keep recommending it. When the competition gets 85%+ usage with spikes to 100% in any AAA games from the past 2 years, of course we're gonna recommend the CPU with more core availables.

>>60492709
>how do you game, anon? you browse the web, watch video and use social media while gaming?
Software running in the background while you're gaming certainly do affect the gaming experience, especially if you have near 100% CPU usage while said gaming.

You can try validating your purchase as much as you want, everyone from /pcbg/ disagrees with your purchase. Buying 4c4t that gets to 100% usage in fucking GTA V in 2017 is madness. I hope you won't regret it too much. There's a reason Intel is also moving to 6 cores for mainstream.
>>
>>60493495
Get a 500GB SATA SSD instead.
And get a motherboard with built in wifi instead of the adaptor? Even if you have one already, it tends to be better than a USB one.

You could really probably get a 1440p monitor, considering what you play, too. Even with the same old GPU.

>>60493529
If you can make use of the 8 cores, OC is not needed.
The performances gained by OC'ing can be pretty decent, here is a x264 & x265 benchmark (something that can actually use the 16 threads) and you can see the 1800x & 1700x quite ahead of the 1700. You might not see is at a big difference but it is, considering the 1800x is scraping the ten cores 6950x, whereas the 1700 is under the 6900k.

For gaming, you'd see a decent performance increase, but you'd gain 10% or less FPS at best (which really isn't that high, that's 12FPS higher than 120, which really isn't worth the cost of the $50 cooler)

Getting higher frequency memory would improve performance more than OCing for gaming.

>>60495022
I personally agree with what it said though, it didn't say that AIO were bad but that they generally weren't the wiser choice, implying that they are great at some situations but for others you'd be wasting money
>>
>>60495032
You're right I forgot to check the prices.
>>
>>60494942>>60494841
Shit I'm still building it
All the typical garbage from LI's "exceptional"
7700
1080 ti x1
asus 270 mobo

HDDs would be a bunch of 2tb'ers, (4-6 if it's a raid), SSD would be <500gb

Aiming for 2-2.5k$

Hmm, say, could I set up a raid that only backs up my OS drive, since that's where all my documents are?
>>
>>60495032
The two posts you linked (004 and 009) aren't the same person. 009 is mine; the other is likely a resident moron. Anyway I didn't accuse you of being anyone in my post. Turn your eye inward, considering you're the pot calling the kettle black.

>>60495050
RAID isn't a backup. You have a lot of reading to do
>>
>>60495032
Would the case at least fit?
>>
>>60495066
what?
>>
>>60495070
Would the build at least fit inside of the slim uATX case?
>>
>>60495078
Yes, it's an mATX mobo, so it does fit in an mATX case.
>>
>>60495083
Including the low profile 1050 ti and the Mdisc writer?
>>
>>60495096
Yes. Cable management is gonna be pretty tight though.
>>
Does cable management actually matter? I have an old as shit non-modular PSU and an old case. Both were nice for 2008 but the cable management is terrible for a number of reasons. There are no SSD mounts, no real room to stow unused cables, and I also wouldn't mind getting a smaller mATX case since I have an mATX mobo.

Should I get a new case + PSU and if so what's good for cheap?
>>
>>60495031
I've had a large external sitting around not getting used since the goddamn thing has to sip data through a straw & it hogs resources while it's doing it.
Not to mention the nightmarish 3rd party software.
>Just set it to back up during the night
Fuck the goddamn wake-from hibernate/sleep/let it sleep and fuck everything up software assfuckery.
And fuck routinely leaving it on all night.

RAID sounds convenient.

Good to know with the xHCI business though, thanks, will read up on it more.
>>
>>60495122
You don't need a modular PSU for good cable management, you can always stuff all your shit behind the mobo
Cable management is better for slightly improved airflow and most important, being able to make any change to your PC without much hassle
I could change my PSU very fast because of good cable management, nothing is in the way of it. Same goes for mobo. just unplug everything from it, remove the part, place the new one and plug everything back. No cables to move around or anything, it's pretty quick.

No idea about which are cheap and good.
>>
>>60495032
Everyone knows it's you. Look at the multiple people calling you out for the same shit you keep doing every thread. You're so god damned stupid.
>>
>>60495169
Again, you're mistaking me for someone else.
I never get any retard calling me names except when i criticise that one retard trying to force his bad shill OP on us.
>>
>>60495169
You're probably confusing him with me. I'm https://pcpartpicker.com/user/pcbg/saved/#view=CmDHxr, the anon that the resident /pcbg/ morons love to hate.

>>60495191
>shill shill shill
You know how I know you're stupid?
>>
>>60495204
>the anon that the resident /pcbg/ morons love to hate.
So /pcbg/ hating on one retard trying to force his opinions on us is supposed to be bad or something?
>>
>>60495213
Guess what, 90% of my opinions are shared by this thread. You wouldn't even know about the benefits of fast RAM if I hadn't pushed benchmarks daily in the Skylake days. The only reason my tiered builds are labeled "bad" is that the resident morons fear me.

I challenge you. Find something that needs correction in any of these builds.

You could literally copy this thread build for all i care, your links still won't be welcomed

Also, the R5 1600 isn't even in there even though it's the best fucking vaue CPU there is at the moment, and the best for gamers too in term of overall strengths
>inb4 but in the description i say you can change to an r5 1600
That makes no fucking sense, the R5 1600 should be the go-to choice, not something you can change to
>>
>>60492221
Noooo.... the DDR4 spec list 2133 as it's operating speed. *ANY* speed over that is running above spec and is considered OC'd memory.

>>60495263
You are entirely right
He is confusing this and the official memory frequency support where Ryzen officially supports higher memory than Intel

The 1600 needs an aftermarket cooler to support even a mild OC, which increases costs further. In general I agree that it's the best price/perf CPU on the market, but the 1500X is plenty for gaming, and it's cheaper. No real reason to get the 1600 right now for gaming solely, especially considering that the upgrade path is a lot sweeter.

You will be able to more than double your CPU performance later when upgrading to an 8c/16t Ryzen2 or 3 CPU with greater efficiency and clock speeds. Six core to eight core upgrade is a lot less justifiable, so you're stuck with a mediocre six core if you get the 1600 now. But obviously to each his own, which is why the 1600 upgrade is MENTIONED IN EVERY RYZEN BUILD.
>>
>>60495255
If that's all you can come up with, my point is proven. There are no mistakes.
>>
>>60495032

It's good unless you're running an i7 or 1700x/1800x with a solid oc and you want to keep temps low. You can run a chip to its limits and keep it under 60c with a liquid cooler. Air coolers are less expensive and have less risk, but they just can't take care of heat as effectively
>>
>>60495322
>overclock all the things meme
Goddamn you're insufferable

>The 1600 needs an aftermarket cooler to support even a mild OC
Not really. It comes with the same Wraith Spire cooler the 1500X does, and can handle an OC to 3.7 GHz. A 1500X has the same limit with the same cooler.
>>
>>60495366

Some of us are running big boy CPUs
>>
>>60495391
>he thinks an LGA1151 7700k is a big boy CPU
come back when you have 16 or more cores.
>>
>>60495404

My 6700k goes toe toe with any of those 8 core AMD chips in gaming and most of them in number crunching. You guys make it sound like more cores is gospel but it's all about utilization
>>
>>60495366
>It comes with the same Wraith Spire cooler the 1500X does
Yeah, but the Spire has to cool two more active cores on the 1600 (+50% cores). It doesn't cut it. Notice the TDP difference between the 1500X and the 1600X, which is basically what you're trying to turn the 1600 into.

>A 1500X has the same limit with the same cooler.
Incorrect. The 1500X can easily hit 3.9 on its stock cooler.
>>
>>60495426
Gaming doesn't need big boy CPUs. 6700k isn't big boy cpu, it's kid gaming cpu.
