Im currently using a x131e that I got for free, pretty comfy to use for assignments and watch my shows on.

Only gets 3-5 hours per charge.

It has ulv intel specs, so a celeron 1007u 1.5 dual core ghz

Does what I need it too, and my college isnt asking for software to download so it might be my dedicated one.


I give it a 7/10 for my usage (cant use pc for usage right now, have a tablet, and a phone)

The harddrive and actual laptop is old but almost never used so Win10 loads in less than 45 seconds. 299 gb out of 320 gb, would like an SSD, but feel like it would just be wasting money on it.


As a main thing? You might want to look for something else.
No other option?or just want to have it? Go nuts.

I've been leaning towards a t540p (muh sockitz). I'd of course switch to a t450 trackpad.
What concerns me is the keyboard layout. If they hadn't added the numpad and shifted the trackpad to the side, I'd snatch one off ebay no question.

Its here! X200 feels just as fast as the x220 for shitposting and youtube(on i3 arch). Cpu intensive tasks like compiling and ffmpeg are quite a bit slower but it's to be expected. The screen on the x200 is pretty bad compared to the x220 ips but the superior keyboard material and no annoying trackpad even that out a little bit. Waiting for my pomona clip and aetheros wifi card now so i can libreboot this bich. If anyone wants me to compare anything between these two feel free to ask.

Do you mean key switches or trackpoint buttons? I was talking only about the trackpoint buttons. I'm using a ThinkPad E130 at the moment with very nice near silent but tactile trackpoint buttons. My X230 has louder clicking trackpoint buttons which I don't like as much.

I know that ALPS keyboards are shit on the xx20 series and everyone only recommends NMB and Chicony, but the big differentiation for me would be the trackpoint button feel and sound because obviously that's very important.

After an hour of errors with my 380ed I've got it working again.
Simple dead cmos error turned into keyboard error 301 and ram error 76
One of the three keyboard cables didn't seat correctly
The ram must've been bumped when I changed the cmos battery, all is well now.
(How neat is it that I can get an identical battery to replace a 20 year old laptops' in 2017?)

Now I'm playing around with Sony Soundforge 4.5, and I think I'm gonna end up creating vaporwave at this point.
I wish I could upload video with audio here because I got a neat short video of some synthy sounds

You can find plenty of cheap T420's/T430's and Elitebooks on Mercadolibre, for less than 300 burgers
If you want bulky an W series or comparable Elitebook's/Precision's are your best bet, they aren't as easy to find as 14" T series but they appear somewhat frequently

Beware though, on 14" laptops the HD+ (1600x900) screens are pretty fucking rare, discrete graphics are much less rare nowadays though, if you want an acceptable screen you will have to import one from eBay and install it yourself

What does the /tpg/ think of Lenovo Y50-70 i7 960m edition with clean windows 7 and 16 GB of RAM. Everything running out of an ssd? It's meant for older games like Fallout 3 with mods and World of Warcraft. Maybe if somebody had one or has one then share some experience? I've heard they've got screen defects.

Anyone have any luck installing Ubuntu, debian, or arch on the T470? I've tried all 3 and my wireless doesn't work on any of them, I'm a bit of a noob and don't know what I should do.

On Ubuntu it says I'm connected to wifi, but the internet doesn't work. Plugging in ethernet makes it "load" forever. I gave up on debian and arch.

Price isn't a problem. Preferably something that has a decent 1080p screen, and a good quad core CPU. Also nothing ridiculously heavy like 2.5-3kg or more. It seems like most thinkpads are dual core/shitty -u CPUs. Are there any 15 inch quad cores?
