>>60384076
Too unfocused.
It's trying to be a normie gamer board with hot swap and rgb backlighting, while also being an enthusiast board with full programming and a lack of gamer aesthetic.
So you end up with a $200 keyboard that most normies will look at and go "why would I pay that much when corsair exists and looks cooler???" and a decent chunk of enthusiasts will look at and go "ew costar stabs i can't tune and why am i paying for shitty kailh switches and tai-hao keycaps???".
>>60384690
>costar stabs
They got cherry stabs and the kailh switches are supposedly the best of the knock offs. I anxious to see what the 3rd custom switch they plan to offer. I will agree though, the tai-hao caps are garbage even if they are PBT.
Custom Keyboard anon here. I called around and found a local place that will let me print PCBs for like ~40 a per 5. My keyboard is BACK ON!

Huh, I swear I read Costar. I wonder why they switched over after using Costar for both the Whitefox and Ergodox Infinity.
And Kailh aren't anything special, some people really like them but generally it's considered Gateron/Cherry > Kailh/Greetech > other chinkshit
>>60384897
Yeah, well see. I'm gonna jump on it just to see, if the custom switch they offer turn out to be shit i'll just put a set of MX Clears in (with RGB housing) and be happy
>>60384897
Kaihua only get a bad rep because they made them shitty Razor switches. Kaihua Blues feel great.
>>60384873
do you plan on designing an alu case for this as well? seems like a neat project.
>>60384961
I'm currently working on the board layout. Once its done I'll take it any my plate and throw them into autoCAD and then design a case that the plate sits on and screws in. I'll most likely make it out of either aluminum or steel.
I'll probably make a few prototypes first before actually spending the extra money on ergo-clears and stabilizers. I'm hoping to learn about the fab processs. Maybe I'll start a little business or something. As it stands my design is 100-keys so it certainly sounds nice.
is there a better material for keyboard keys than plastic?
>>60385072
I wonder. We can rule out wood or stone straight away due to basically requiring milling, I'd say. Cast metal might be as easy and possibly cheap as injection molded plastic, but I'm not sure how you'd do legends? Stamp them in afterwards, have molds for each cap with raised legends, or some kind of double-cast system where you use two different metals with sufficiently different melting points so that casting the cap doesn't mess with the legend? I don't think stamped metal would be possible because of the stem, and welding a stem on after stamping the main cap from would be too complex probably.
There's probably a reason mass production of keycaps is done with injection molded plastic.
>>60385230
PBT keys will last years with only minor wear. The only thing that I say you might gain from changing materials is the feeling when it hits the plate of the keyboard. I've heard that even between ABS and PBT, certain backplate materials that can make the keys feel better.

plum84 which is the same design (but comes with topre clones or regular switches) also comes in white. plum84 is quite cheap with gaterons but i don't know what the shipping and other fees would cost from taobao.

>>60386117
I think the plum iis the new choc mini. Noppoo's store has no products available for sale and the stock of their keyboards that was on newegg, amazon, etc is just about gone.
If you look at the plum it IS a choc mini. The same tooling was used to make iit. The legends are the same and in the same position, the branding is in the same spot on the space bar.
Anyway if that guy wants to change keycaps I would stay away from the choc. The keycaps it comes with are all larger than standard so if you replace them there is more room between the keys than there should be. It's very slight but it's there. Pic related.

Jesus that's insane. I know the parts legitimately cost that much but still. We're in the golden age of keyboards now that the patents have expired. They're barely more expensive than an average rubber dome at this point. Even total casuals with no interest can easily afford a nice board with the switch of their choice.
Also I have a clear picture of my 75% finally. It was the stock app on the s4 causing the grain.
>>60390125
if you have unlimited money, why would you want this chinkshit that looks like shit, for $200 + the cost of better switches + the cost of better keycaps, just because it has hotswappable switches, you can get a much nicer custom keyboard for $200-300

My enjoypbt caps arrived yesterday, and I stuck them on my old rosewill board. Also, they did come with a keypuller, even though some anon in a previous thread said that they didn't.
The caps look awesome, except my numpad +, numpad enter, and left shift are slightly warped. The numpad enter and left shift are manageable, but the numpad + will totally stick down if I press it. Super disappointing given the cost of these things.
Has anyone here done anything to de-warp PBT caps? I've been reading online that you can possibly heat them up in some hot water, then try to bend them back into the right shape, or weigh them down on a flat surface. Are there any risks to doing that, seeing as how at least one of the caps is already unusable?

I have some:
Don't drink next to your keyboard
Suicide is always an option
Consider distilled water instead
Also use a needle to make sure the water/alcohol gets into the switch, and mash it a few times
If it doesn't work then desolder the switch and replace it with a new one.
If that doesn't then get a new keyboard
Maybe now you'll stop acting like a buffoon, but I doubt it.

Adding to this I don't see how a brick would break a thick pbt cap, it's not like I was trying to smash it. I just set the brick on top of it
Hey /mkg/ I know this probably is really not the place to ask this but idk where else to go and google isn't helping - sorry in advance.
I have a basic wireless mouse and keyboard combo with a USB dongle. I've since lost the keyboard but still have both other parts. The computer is recognizing the attached dongle just fine but the mouse won't work by itself. Is there a way to remedy this or do I just need to buy another mouse?

>>60404796
You could look into the Taihao Carbon set on Taobao, it could be decent. That is if Taobao is practical for you.
>>60407697
there are some like tomoko and velocifire but i'd prefer the quickfire tk because of the more compact form factor and the cherry mx switches (tomoko and velocifire have no-name chinese clone switches)
Check my updated split TKL case design, for 5mm acrylic. It now supports only costar stabilizers, since cherry stabilizers won't work with a thicker acrylic plate.
Also, I remembered to add spaces for the USB and connecting cable (I'm going to use a 9-pin serial cable) this time.
>>60407856
That higher-resolution export makes it hard to see, here's a lower resolution version. I'll probably laser cut it later today.

Hey guys, quick question; currently on a rubberdome board (Microsoft Sidewinder X4), I think its slowly starting to give way after many good years of service.
Saw an ad on Facebook promoting three keyboards.
One looks like a no-name and has very little details, so I'm ignoring it.
The other two are:
>Razer Blackwidow Chroma Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
> Corsair Gaming STRAFE RGB Cherry MX Blue Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
Is Razers mech switches any good? Or is it all just PR speak and memes? I know Razer is gamer shit but its potentially okay, right?
The Corsair board is using blue switches, which looking up on google, might not be ideal. I also don't like the fact that WASD sticks out so much, looks really tacky IMO. At least with the Razer board, I can turn off the LED's and have it look less tacky.
Anyone mind helping out a poor pleb who has no mech keyboard experiences to fall back on? If I could, I would just google it - but its all about preference and experience, so coming to you lot seems like the best idea.
Link to the website selling it in case anyone is wondering about extra details; https://www.overclockers.co.uk/peripherals/input-devices/keyboards?stockids=KB-086-CS,KB-066-ST,KB-092-RA
Like I say, sorry to make it seem like I want to be spoonfed, but I don't think there's a real alternative to asking people who might actually have some experience, in this case.
>>60405628
Oh, you're perfect to ask - the STRAFE RGB is one of the two keyboards I was considering, but I thought its probably not too great and just relying on brand name.
Shit experience with it, I take it?
>>60409955
Skip that shit and get a Ducky since they have much more stable macro support
>>60410009
>Macro support
Not an issue for me. I've got macro keys on my current keyboard and never use 'em.
However, I will definitely look for a ducky to see what they offer. All I really want is a standard QWERTY layout and numpad included.
>>60410038
Ducky has much better build quality then corsair and razer. I used to have a one and its a solid 8/10 keyboard
>>60410099
Two that caught my eye were Ducky Shine 4 Fire 69 (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ducky-shine-4-fire-69-series-6-colour-led-9-switches-usb-gaming-keyboard-kb-21z-dk.html) and Ducky Zero SZ (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ducky-zero-sz-mechanical-keyboard-red-cherry-mx-switch-blue-led-uk-kb-21q-dk.html)
Doesn't look like there's much difference between them, no reviews on either. Are these possibly good options or should I raise my ideal price cap above £100?
>>60386389
Kek, glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that.
>>60394055
Absolutely disgusting, that's why you clean your fucking keyboard every few months.
>>60410265
Those are old ass keyboards. The problem is that due to brexit ducky has stoped sending new keyboards.
>>60410349
Would that be a problem? How old a design is on something doesn't strike me as an issue, but like I say, I've no experience in mech keyboards, nor do I have any knowledge of how the technology has progressed.
>>60405628
Anne Pro is about £70 shipped from Candy keys: https://www.candykeys.com/anne-pro/
Not all switch options in stock however. I'd drop them a line and see when they're expecting more to arrive, as I'd personally want Gat Browns given the choice.
Alternatively, a Pok3r or KBP V60 you'll be looking closer to £100 for, but check out /r/mechmarket and you could find a used one for around your budget.
>>60409985
No no, it's actually been very nice. Only problem is I get an input interrupt endpoint issue on startup sometimes, no matter the distro, so you have to restart a few times to actually get the damn thing going. Flawless on Windows, ironically.
>>60410466
Forgot to mention the Anne Pro has Bluetooth which probably helps your portability requirement; PBT keycaps which although not very aesthetic are nice to type on, and RGB backlighting if you're on that boat..
why don't they make combined rgb+pure white leds. it's just 4 leds instead of 3 you just have to make them a bit smaller maybe and adapt the circuitry and the controller/software.
>>60410505
Oh, okay. Well I'm a windows user anyway; I've tried Linux, but it offers nothing to me personally so I'm fine with that then.
How are blue switches for general gaming? Looking at it, a lot of "gaming" motherboards actually have them so that makes me wonder if the red switches are only for the LEL E-SPORTS crowd who demand that slight difference for something like CS:GO.
I do type a lot, and blues are meant to be more for typing...
>>60410663
Probably because the manufacturing process for a single tiny LED with 5 leads is going to be much more difficult
>>60410695
Any switches are going to be fine for gaming. Honestly, I think reds would suck for gaming since accidental keypresses are more likely.
The only complaint I have with blues for gaming are the motherfuckers who don't mute their mics. You can always tell when some stupid kid has a blue keyboard, because their mic will get activated all the time.
>>60410735
Okay, thanks for the heads up. Figure I'll go for that then, might as well. Thank you for the advice anon, I appreciate the help.
>>60410695
I use Silents. They don't quite live up to the name, but they're comfy for a first-timer.
Finally. I ordered another one with gateron switches so I can test and compare.
>>60411167

Pretty literally so, since cherry browns are shit.
Hey fellas, this may not be entirely on-topic but I figured you guys might know something about this.
I'm interested in changing the color of the keyboard on my Thinkpad T420. I'd like to make them red, either matte or high-gloss.
It's not possible to buy different colored keycaps for them, so if I were going to paint them or coat them in some way, what would you recommend?

it's pretty well documented with the instruction manuals etc etc. i think the problem is that this "hobby" is a bit of a joke and may as well belong in >>>/toy/. the market is obviously hungry for innovation as evidenced by the demand for zealio switches and the hideous $200 chinkboard where the only distinguishing feature is the hotswappable switches.

A good tray will make sure that your keyboard is at elbow level, and tilted slightly away from your wrists. Basic ergonomic desks that do this cost between 200-300 bucks. There are chink ones for half the price, but I've had the arms break twice on them

Sorry this lazboy is just too comfy to sit on. I ain't switching. I switched my setup so it looks like this and it's the most comfortable I've ever been while at a computer. Spending $200 bucks on a desk might seem like a lot compared to a $40 staples one, but its well worth it. Heck you're in a general where people spend that much on a keyboard.
>>60417314
most keyboard trays are flat or slanted toward you (because of the cheap construction) but sure if it's slanted away from you it seems legit i just don't see how you'd use a mouse on a non-level surface
>inb4 "i don't use a mouse"
>inb4 "i keep the mouse on the desk 4+ inches above the keyboard tray"
>>60417581
Friction keeps the mouse in place and I just use that free mouse pad from when they were doing those a long time ago. I can see if you got a keyboard with a high incline or tall keycaps that might be a problem, but my g80 sits just fine.
>>60417581
I like the flat keyboard tray so the mouse isn't impeded. It's better to put the keyboard itself at a negative tilt, though not many have that built in (like the Matias Ergo Pro).
Don't fall for the K70 RGB meme. It's a waste of money. I had at least 1 dozen LEDs go bad on me. Corsair told me to send it back to them to be replaced. I had to pay for shipping to send it back and now they are telling me they won't accept it and want me to pay for it to be shipped back to me.
Their reason for not accepting is "NO/MISSING WARRANTY SERIAL LABEL". However, I have not removed anything from my keyboard, incurred physical damage to it, or modified it in any way. The only possible way it could be missing a serial label is if they failed to put it there in the first place. Fuck Corsair. I will never purchase anything with their brand name on it again.
