No it isn't. I could say that I write codes into a dream journal that nobody can decypher except for me, but it takes me 30 minutes to encrypt/decrypt a single paragraph of text. What would be a useful application of that that couldn't better be handled by a modern computer?

uhhh child pornography, what else doust one encrypt?

Because you use that same idea of the journal, but you also use a Commodore64 with a 1542 disk drive you write to a 5.25" floppy.

Enough for what, exactly? /sec/ how? If you're coming from Windows then basically anything *nix will be more /sec/.

I'd start with Mint or Ubuntu though if you're looking for one to jump to in full. Some people might disagree, but as you learn more you'll almost certainly install something else you like the sound of anyway, so you might as well get comfy with Mint / Ubuntu.

Unknown.

I inquired here on an earlier thread but got no responses. It just lives on in the pastas and archive.org (I checked). Not sure about the maintainer, she never responded either and now I cannot remember her name either (sounded Nordic-ish).

OK so let's look 10 years onto the future: robots with reasonable AI is as common as cell phones. They do everything old fashioned housewives did in the 1960's, ironing your shirts, making food, the works.

And they will be tapped by intelligence agencies.

They were on 8chán's /cyber/ a few days ago: "I had to take it down when I started moving. As with every year, I'm out of the country for a while. I'll throw it on a VPS before I leave for good."

The clue os not weaker machines but older machines. Specifically before three letter agencies started filling up hardware with backdoors the customers have no idea about.

Watch the brouhaha over the Intel management system. Now imagine that is also in routers, switches, ethernet ports, SCSI interfaces, CMOS memory etc.

A 30 years old 6502 system is pretty comfy.

Any cybergoths here?

What is it about, a neat way to wear facemasks and colourful latex? Genuinely curious.
>>
>>60362330
Slow encryption is in some senses good encryption. You avoid some side channel attacks, and short of building an FPGA or your own dedicated ASIC for encryption, and then compiling a custom kernel in such a way that special CPU encryption instructions are redirected to your FPGA, you have no choice but to use what is probably backdoored hardware.

The other thing you can do is buy Russian hardware. You'll be backdoored, but it won't be by American intelligence agencies, that much is for certain.

If you store emails on disk with a client like Thunderbird what level of compromise can a malicious email cause? I assume the only thing stored is packaged html and plaintext which would have to be rendered and interacted with to do anything harmful. Winshit defender will flag what it thinks are malicious messages in your local folder however which makes me wonder how much of a problem they could be

I can't really find info on what the sec risks are of storing email locally (wdseml files). Anyone with knowledge in this domain capable of providing input?
>>
>Set up DNSCrypt
>Everything seems to be running properly
>Run a DNS leak test
>Comcast servers all the way down
What am I missing here? Why is my computer querying Comcast DNS servers rather than the ones I selected?
>>
>>60398635
cat /etc/resolv.conf
on both your router and your main machine

maybe if your DNScrypt setup is incorrect it's falling back to cuntcast?
>>
>>60398674
I'm tinfoiling my mother's computer at the moment, so Windows. I tracked the problem to the DNS Suffix settings and changed it, but now I'm getting a list of Google servers instead of Comcast. That's a lot better, but I'm still not sure why it's not using the servers I chose with DNSCrypt.
>>
>>60398926
sorry, I have no clue about the inner working of DNS on Windows

I just point any Windows client to a local DNS server that's configured properly. Never had a more complicated setup but then again I don't use DNS crypt

It doesn't even make sense to me why your machine is falling back to random name servers that are not the primary ones configured you assumedly configured in the GUI.
>>
>>60398926
The answer to "why is Windows broken?" is "it's Windows".

The way to do this is at the router level, if you have to deal with Windows boxes. Give them a default gateway and tell them to use it for DNS, then set up DNSCrypt on said router.
>>
>>60399262
>The way to do this is at the router level
Comcast router/gateway, kek. It's locked to Comcast DNS servers, but apparently I can still change to Google servers at the OS level. I got everything working properly on my Android phone as well, so I know it's not the router intercepting my DNS requests.
>>
>>60399543
the nicest thing you could do for your mother is call them up and bridge that consumer tier shit to some proper networking equipment (assuming cuntcast still allows this)
>>
>>60399740
Wait, is this actually a service ISPs offer for residential customers? I never figured that was even an option.
>>
>>60399828
back when I had cuntcast they offered it although it's an obscure option I had to request. This was a residential line. Had that shit bridged to good gear. I would imagine they still offer it because people can't put up with their trash hardware.

One more protip:
I stopped using cuntcast the second they started threatening me with caps here. Switched to a local ISP that is faster and cheaper with no caps and I bring my own modem and networking gear. Never had a problem.
>>
>>60396140
>Why is there only one male
Not sure latex and neon colouring become males.
>>
>>60398539
I am no expert but I know there are plenty of sub systems that trawl local disks all the time, including indexers and anti-malware tools. The letter group has been shown time and again to be in a bad shape in terms of security so it is possible a specially crafted mail file will induce a buffer overflow in such a program in which case you have a local problem going with most likely administrator privileges.

Use a IMAP server and you have a better control about what will touch those files.
>>
>>60393615
Apparently they are on the decline.

I read somewhere that the ubiquitous face masks were covered on the insides with wicks soaked in various chemicals. So liver and kidneys probably packed in and the cybergoths had to call it a day. And call the doctor.

BTW the UK also has pretty draconian laws for things like this. It seems a little feudal in some ways.

I mean those are two areas where really well known intelligence agencies reside. Using such a device there, which may well contain back doors not publicly known yet, will raise red flags like a matador.

If you decide to try it do make sure absolutely no signals leak outside your home. These agencies are not famous for their sporty sense of humour.

How safe is Veracrypt on windows 10? Long story short, I stopped dual booting on my main PC because windows 10 couldn't do sleep mode due to lack of windows based bootloader. I still have the encrypted file containers I made with Linux (Ubuntu MATE 16.04). I blocked Veracrypt in the firewall. I'm assuming Im still at risk of having my passwords leaked to MS?

I have nothing super important. Plain text file of all my passwords and usernames.
