Haven't installed Nougat yet to be honest, maybe that will solve some of the problems. It is possible that reviewers don't know how to test GPS and I just got a bad unit, but the detailed review site I go to seems to also complain about performance inside buildings.

Overall it is still a good phone, and honestly I do not drive much (17,000km a year) so 80% of the time the GPS is fine.
>>
Anyone got a review on this phone? I really want a good smartphone with a physical keyboard.

It's also on sale (at least in Germany), 342€ instead of 549€. Price/performance ok?

It's not a good phone. Overheats a lot, no more updates, terrible Blackberry software.

Unfortunately, there's not many physical keyboard smartphones. Other than this, you have the new KeyOne, the physical clip-in keyboard for the Samsung S7 and S8, and the older Blackberries (BB10 phones can run Android apps, although badly)
>>

Hey, >>60315218 here. Check out these reviews:

http://m.gsmarena.com/blackberry_priv-review-1350.php

https://www.notebookcheck.net/BlackBerry-Priv-Smartphone-Review.172051.0.html (more recent, after Blackberry fixed most of the bugs)

Overall I have had a pretty positive experience. Stock Android is nice, the phone is pretty quick in everyday tasks, build quality is good and the keyboard is a nifty feature to have. Battery lasts an entire day even with lots of SOT, I have gotten it to go 2 days with 10% remaining on light use. It does get a bit warm under load though, and sometimes the camera just takes inexplicably bad shots for no reason. But for that price it is a .lot of phone for the money.
>>
Galaxy S8 here, great phone, stellar build quality and design. It will take some getting used to because of the meme bezels, but otherwise, nothing to complain.
>>
>>60315218
My favourite phone before it broke was the OPO, so I don't mind the big screen at all.

>not that bad in most situations
Could you give some examples of situations where it was bad?

>>60315249
Well darn it, are you a heavy user? I'd be mostly using it for music, web surfing, texting, calling and the occasional Netflix (rare). Won't install bloats like SC, FB and IG. Won't even use the camera that much so I don't mind that.

Would the phone still perform poorly under these conditions?
>>
>>60315307
Is it easy to drop it?
>>
>>60315249
>no more updates

This is an outright fabrication. Running the April security patch and May is already in the works. In fact, it has been consistently updated every single month since I bought it in December 2015.

>terrible Blackberry software

So stock Android or minor Blackberry apps that can be turned off?

Check your facts matey.
>>
>>60315325
It's really only unwieldly in one-handed typing. Otherwise it's perfectly fine and comfortable to use.
>>
>>60315284
>https://www.notebookcheck.net/BlackBerry-Priv-Smartphone-Review.172051.0.html

That sounds really good (esp. the part about battery), as stated here >>60315325 I don't mind the camera and the phone certainly won't be under heavy load.

Also I'll probably leave it at stock android, but I would like to root the phone just to have adblock and remove bloat. Is that not recommendable with this phone?

Anyway, thanks anon! Will read the reviews now.

Yeah, I don't mind big phones at all and barely use my phones one handed.

>>

>Also I'll probably leave it at stock android, but I would like to root the phone just to have adblock and remove bloat

Not only is it not recommended, it isn't possible. Blackberry locked the bootloader for security reasons. Can't say much about the ads but to be honest there is basically zero bloat.

On the topic of heat, it does heat up under heavy load, nothing catastrophic though. Certainly not Snapdragon 810 housefire levels. I can watch Chinese cartoons for hours and it barely heats up at all.
>>
>>60315496
I should add, my old Samsung Galaxy S3 used to get wayyyy warmer than my BlackBerry Priv ever did. Fucking burned my face after long phone calls and the battery got stupid hot. The Priv runs cool as a cucumber in comparison.
>>
>>60315496
>>60315536
Oh well, since I won't be gaming much any more and I actually buy most apps I use I won't have to worry about ads as much then. Not having to worry about my face burning off is a plus, I suppose.

Western Yuropoor, needs more than 16GB ROM, good batery, waranteed official updates
>>
So I just wrecked my Iphone 5's screen today and its about time I got a new phone.
I am really not phone-savvy and need some help deciding which phone to pick.
After brief research i came up with these:

HTC 10
Samsung
any new Iphone, dunno which one

based in Germany, carrier will be Telekom.
I want a robust, responsive phone with good basic functionality. Camera doesnt matter too much. I use my phone for music and calendar purposes mostly.
What bothered me about the iphone a little is that your are not very accessible and that the battery was kinda shitty.
>>
>>60315654
I would say just to pick up a leather case. I personally don't use one with my phone because I find it too bulky and I've never dropped or mistreated it. All the cases I've seen have been either really good quality but expensive (order direct from BlackBerry) or very bad quality but cheap.

I did fall flat on my ass while the Priv was in my back pocket once, catching the corner of a stair. Just made a little cracked in the plastic and the screen didn't even break. I'd say the phone is pretty sturdy on its own.
>>
>>60315453
leeco: no nfc, no sd card, no audio jack and camera bump
Don't know anything about the other phone but why are you picking between a 5.2'' and a 5.7'' screen?
>>
Why wouldn't i buy a g4 play? G5 is ugly as fuck and i just want to go down to the shop and buy something cheap (130 euros)that werks....
>>
>>60316150

I really don't care about screen size, just want a good phone for ~$250. And holy fuck, I overlooked the audio jack thing. Quick google search tells me that there are no super compact 3,5mm Audio to USB-C adapters with no cable. Well, fuck all that.

No NFC/SD also doesn't matter too much. Still, that's another phone down the drain. I'm really running out of options here. Why do all these phones have such dumb drawbacks :|
>>
>>60316082
>I use my phone for music and calendar purposes mostly
Even a 100€ phone will do that just fine

>iPhone SE 64GB
>$345
https://aliexpress.com/item/SE/32795523498.html
Should I trust? It's seems to be used (not refurb).
I guess my only concern would be battery, but I kind of doubt it had over 200 cycles. Comes with fake USB / charger but I really don't care as chink MFI are cheap.
Between this ^ or local new 5S (16GB).

I just don't bother with Android (was kinda into Mi 5, but everyone just says >fault gps). Prefer 4.7"-5.15".
Also, I mostly use Uber/happn/PoGo and some browser stuff.

>>60316082
>Samsung
Just DON'T.

>>60316790

yeah, probably not a bad choice. Probably gonna narrow it down to the P2, Zenfone 3, Mi5s or the Z2 Pro. trying to act like an educated customer is hard.

How is jerryrigthings some kind of a top authority on mobile device durability when most of what he does is bend and burn phones?

9/10 phones get ruined by sudden impact trauma. Resistance to falls etc is the kind of functional durability that matters.

I have never had a phone get damaged by literal fire or because a gorilla grab and bend it or however the fuck that is supposed to happen

Mokee seems pretty alright. In the few minutes I spent looking, I couldn't find an official Lineage ROM, or I'd probably be using that. The battery life with Mokee is quite good and the last version I had installed was extremely stable, although the version I updated to last week crashes almost once a day. Also, unless you make a donation to Mokee, the download will probably be slow as shit. It might be better to go with an unofficial version of Lineage, which is what I used for the first few weeks I had my Z2.

Thinking about getting a Nokia 6 as soon as it realeses in europe. Do you think 230 euros should be spent differently?
>>
Just got the Moto G5 Plus on the advice of anons here, having a weird issue and was wondering if anyone else had experienced this. My 3.5mm jack will work perfectly fine with headphones with an inline mic, but if I try to plug in something without the mic it just keeps outputting to the speaker like I haven't plugged anything in. This is fairly annoying as I usually plug up to my car stereo for music while I drive and it's just completely not working. Anyone know of a fix, or am I gonna have to send this thing in for replacement?

>Xiaomi enters Mexico with Redmi 4X and Redmi Note 4

FUCK, this is great, i don't think you guys care about some random spic's opinion but this is huge, let me tell you why.

The Note 4 is supposedly going to cost 5500 MXN, for that price you're getting a 5.5" device with 3GB of ram, SD625 and a massive 4100 mAh battery, the closest phone to this one, the Moto Z Play, costs nearly twice as much (9500 MXN and you get carrier cucked with the worst provider here, unefon) and has more or less the same specs, it just comes with a smaller battery, amoled screen (which are shit imo, i don't like this "true blacks and saturated colors" meme) and the moto mod gimmick, which cost 1000-1700 MXN apiece.

Most low end phones here, i'm talking about shit like 2011 phones, those shitty samsung J, alcatel and LG K phones with sub 720p screen and less than a GB of ram costs 3000 MXN minimum, slightly less if you pay outright, at least the Moto G phones always have reasonable prices (less than 6000 MXN), the only downside is that they only bring over the ones with 2GB of ram.

Nay, the G4 Play is the exact same price or cheaper (got mine on target for 90 burgers) and it has more or less the same specs, iirc the G3 has better camera but a gb less of ram, the G4P also doesn't shit itself with SD cards bigger than 16 GB, google if you don't believe me, official lineage, aosp, RR and mokee support on the play too, i assume you meant lineage since cyanogen is dead.

I've heard the 10 has mediocre SoT and wifi issues, and the XZ is overpriced.

I see loads of people recommending the P2 but, what's the catch? It's only £200 here in the UK, it has an alright chip, 4Gb RAM, huge battery and I've also heard it's build quality feels premium. So what have they skimped out on to get that, is the software shit/bloated? It's a tempting phone but I've never bought chink before and I'm suspicious.

I have a V20, bought on release, and this phone has not been plagued by bootloop problems. That was something specific to the 808-series of phones (G5, V10, Nexus 5X). My younger brother gave me his old Samsung galaxy S3.

Just google LG V20 bootloop, there's dozens of videos about it and it seems it happens more on asia, it's rare on the west but it does happen, hell LG recently got into a serious lawsuit over all their expensive phones (Nexus 5/5X, G3/G4/G5, V10/V20) "mysteriously" bootlooping after a few weeks of use due to poor soldering, with the G4 and the V10 being the worst offenders.

And yes there's nothing you can do to prevent it, it WILL bootloop no matter what, it's just a matter of when, at least they don't cheat you out of an SD slot because with these pieces of shit it's a necessity, however this also means you have to do a full backup of your data every single day and you can't store any sensible information on your $800 time bomb because it's prone to shitting the bed at any given moment.

Get an HTC10 for the second best DAC and best software when it comes to audio in phones.

Both are shitty and won't be updated past 6.0.
S5 has a better resolution screen and smaller battery. J5 (2016) has a bigger battery and lower resolution screen, so it should have better battery life. The low end chip (410) on the J5 (2016) doesn't appear to be as good as the aging but high end (for 2014) 801 in the S5.

Both are Samsung phones so you'll have to deal with backwards back button placement and terrible software (Touchwiz). I'm not sure if I would use either unless I was super desperate. I'd rather pay more for a good experience than be frustrated by something I use every day.

I'm asumming you're a spic as well, in case you aren't the G5+ costs 6500 MXN and it gives you 2GB of ram with a SD625 and 3000 mAh battery, they didn't go for the 3GB one here, iirc it's exclusive to 'merica and as an added fuck you to the rest of the world the thing also records in 4k unlike every other model.

I don't have time to watch the whole thing, but I know the av sync issue was only in marshmallow. I updated it to nougat as soon as I got it and carefully looked for sync issues using YouTube test videos; it was perfect. If he hasn't updated it, then I have to wonder whether the other issues are outdated too.

Notifications are timely for me.

The internet speed is fine but I live in a strong LTE area so I can't really say.

I can't really tell what the colour temp of the screen is. I do know it's very high contrast and generally very vivid, which you'd expect from oled. It has a natural vs vivid setting which may affect this. But if colour accuracy is more important than contrast/saturation for you, you should probably get an LCD device either way.

I hold the phone in my right hand and it doesn't block the speaker.

Can't find in my country, also it would probably be at the same price as a new 64GB SE.
I wish there was compact Mi 5/6.

HTC 10 or LG V20?

If I get the "International Version" (let's say Chinese + languages), will I be able to install the Global Stable from miui.com without any problem?

Please be joking. This phone is fragile as shit. If you don't have Samsung care plus, I beg you to get it.

Nexus 6 (not the 6P variant) seems pretty cheap with good specs and rom support. Any other suggestions?

Alternatively, some other device that does the job, but I doubt you can get something cheaper.

basically any smartphone should be fine for that, just check it has all the network bands needed. A used Moto G/E is a good choice, if you're a burger you can get one of the prime exclusive phones off Amazon for $60

Mi5s vs. ZUK Z2 Pro

what matters to me:

>battery life
>custom OS support (at least some kind of LineageOS or something)
>good camera

there isn't really a clear winner, right?

Where can I buy genuine battery for my Nexus 6?
I contacted Motorola but they told me they don't sell spares, but can do it for me in their service.
When asked for price they say they can't provide it until I send them my phone, so they are basically operating on a scam basis.

What version of the Moto G5 Plus do you all have or recommend getting?

Is the Amazon Prime version a bad idea?
Do I need 4GB? Or should I just get an SD for increased storage
>>
>>60343587
Beggars can't be choosers mate. Get it from Amazon or Newegg if you feel those stores are more trustworthy.

I just wish there was a way to get motorola to tell me how much they gonna charge me, before charging me.

Get best buy to price match the Amazon prime version. You should be able to get the 4gb ram version for $240 without ads

Don't know where you can get one, but you should absolutely not buy batteries from eBay or Aliexpress. Specially not eBay. Search around a bit, there's a ton of stories about people either getting batteries that don't work at all or batteries that do charge work but last 10 minutes or so. I haven't heard of anyone who ever bought a genuine actually working battery off those sites.

I don't really know what advice to give here because Motorola aren't the only ones who refuse to sell you spare batteries, this is a pretty common problem. They clearly prefer that you go buy a new phone. So good luck.
>>
>>60343815
>batteries that don't work at all or batteries that do charge work but last 10 minutes or so
At that point you dispute and get your money back.
>>
>>60343941
still a waste of time
>>
>>60343957
If you really need a replacement battery you either waste time finding a replacement battery or you waste money buying a new phone even though you really don't need to.
>>
>>60339773
No. It's currently taking up 14 mb in the background.

I have the redmi 4x, got it for 150€ in Gearbest.

I can tell you it does hardly ever overheat and thanks to its snapdragon processor and the huge battery it has, it lasts like 2 days under normal use without needing a charge.
However, camera is not too bad but not great either and have hardly used its music player so cant tell.
>>
>>60344319
Your options are pretty limited for a budget phone compatable with Verizon. I think your best option is still the Moto G5 Plus, it SHOULD work. If it doesn't, return it.
>>
>>60344797
For €150 you could have got the superior Redmi 4 Pro
>>
whats the best new phone I can use snapprefs on
>>
>>60344319
>for Verizon
Why do americans always are looking for phones for specific networks? Why does it even matter? Or do you mean you are looking for a sim-free phone?
>>
>>60344786
Not faster per se, but with 4gb ram it'll keep more apps in the memory and for a longer time before it closes some of them. With 2gb you might see apps restart when switching between them. For example if you're playing a game and switch to the browser for a while, the game might reload when you switch back to it, rather than continuing from where you left. So 4gb is faster in the sense that you're waiting less for apps to load.
>>

Different technologies for cell service: CDMA vs GSM.
Some phones only support GSM. Some phones come locked to certain carriers.

tried replacing the digitizer but it appears that the lcd screen itself cracked alongside the digitizer and had micro break lines through which cleaning liquid went through

new lcd costs 60 euros

>>
>>60345924
All of Europe (and pretty much every other country in the world except the US) use GSM. Also 90% of Europe uses bands 3, 7 and/or 20 for LTE, so you can pretty safely assume a phone bought in one European country will work just fine in another. Meanwhile in the US you have both CDMA and GSM-based carriers, which all use different LTE bands so a phone from one US carrier won't necessarily work with another even if it is unlocked. A phone bought outside the US is even less likely to work properly, because the manufacturers usually make separate models with global and US network bands.
