Poster in the prev thread was claiming that soundstage can be created through EQ, others disagreed. Who's right?
>>
>>60235264
I disagreed. I also got an eq recommendation for a certain headphone at one point not too long ago, and it didn't add any sound stage whatsoever. Not really possible imo.
>>
>>60235264
That applies to headphones, yes. There isn't much left of the localization process needed to perceive actual soundstage once we replicate two channel audio mixed with and for loudspeakers through a pair of headphones. What we have left is mostly just FR differences and that can be altered with equalization.

To all of you guys I want to advice a model of closed studio monitors, the model no one seems to know about. It's GMP 8.35D GMP is for German Maestro. Good sound isolation and natural sound, decent stage. Very durable, you can literally throw them at a wall. May seems tight or a little uncomfortable with default cushions. They have velour cushions at official site. I bought myself a pair and comfort became perfect, my ear touches nothing inside them. Someone may not like a design though it seem industrial to me and I like it a lot. Also comfortable enough for me to wear on the street.

Audeze do a transferrable waranty so if u buy used you can keep the warranty. I think the warranty is 3 years, so you'd be safest buying a 2016 model preowned. You can pay for them to repair if its out of warranty. Just contact Audeze and ask.

What was your impression on the MSR7's sound? Could help with narrowing down options.

>>60242453
If comfort is important, Shure with oli tips wins. I'd pick MK5 over MC5. Etys and Shures are really different. Ety is deep fit canalphone with fairly neutral response. Shures are inverse fit IEMs that block the ear canal and the SE215 is very bassy. Both isolate a lot, Etymotics more.

>>60240773
Cold water, let it sink in it. Add some soap and rub gently. Just don't use hot water or the blood will stick. I don't know how it works on velours but that's generally how you wash out blood.

Sennheiser sells replacement pads through their site or you can get them from other vendors.

>>60240854
It's definitely not a neutral headphone.
>>
>>60237589
The driver placement and resonances alter the FR which you fix with EQ. Reverb times in headphones are extremely short and does not account for the sound on its own. Interference can still be a problem but that's unrelated to soundstage.
>>
>>60242570
I didnt consider the mk5 since they dont exist on amazon, but it seems I can get them for 60€ from reputable sellers on ebay
the SE215's look a bit "clunky" for sport use don't they?
>>
>>60242570
>What was your impression on the MSR7's sound? Could help with narrowing down options.
The sound is really good. Balanced imo, but lacks a bit of depth/soundstage that I have experienced in open-back headphones. Unfortunately it's tight making my head hurt after an hour of use. The pads are soft, but it's not that comfortable. Also not too big of a fan of total sound isolation.

Redpill me on M50x vs DT 770

On one hand, the M50x have the legendary value headphones reputation. But when I googled, most people from e.g. head-fi prefer 770. Also no one seems to agree on the sound signature from the 770, or which impedance version is worth getting

Well, look at the FR.

I own it and it's pretty neutral... bass is slightly stronger than it should be, but the overall response doesn't feel that different than my HD600.

Sound-wise, it's much closer to the HD600 than HD598 (which was my old main set) is.

>need to crank volume up...
I use mine at 8-9 o'clock @ fulla2, which isn't exactly loud. It sounds better under 10 o'clock. But it definitely needs getting used to, which the random reviewer clearly didn't do.

I only bought mine after watching/reading a lot of reviews, which were generally very positive, so I'd call that an odd review.
>>
>>60240871
I'd suggest the Magni 2 Uber for 2nd amp. The O2 isn't really competitive to it, according to specs and reviews.

They both try to be transparent (no coloring the sound / altering the FR). Schiit does it as a brand (all products).

They look so cute and by their specs they go down to the 30hz for such tiny speaker, altho people commended that they don't go that loud which won't be a problem for me since I don't have a separate flat and listen on medium volumes mostly. Planning to audition them along with JBL 305, they go for 600€ vs 300 € for JBL 305.

>mmustack in a few month
Instead, increase your budget now and go for the HD600. Headphone matters a lot more than dac/amp, and the HD600 is the best purchase of those three.
And there's no benefit to the stack over a Fulla2 unless you go very high volume (>3 o'clock @ knob). F2 is also better value/cost and a much better starter amp, due to its size and i/o ports.
>>
>>60241612

HD600 isn't really that much better than K702 imo. After listening to the HD600 exclusively for almost 10 hours, I came back to the K702 and I noticed suprispingly that there wasn't as big a difference as I expected. K702 is different, it's surely less balanced in the mid-treble region, but the HD600's peak at around 3.5 kHz makes me perceive it as bright as, if not even brighter than, the K702 in some music pieces. K702 still holds the best comfort imo; even after 10 or more hours, the clamp of the HD600 still feels very tight both on my head and on my cheeks.
>>
>>60245859
I don't find the headband on K702 to be that comfortable. Had one for 2 years and still never got used to it.
>>
>>60242666
The housing is not that big but it's also quite personal. Once inserted they do a good job of getting out of the way. Cable wraps over your ear and behind your neck if you want. Etys are smaller and while the housing is unobtrusive, the cable is a bit more problematic. Yanking on it will hurt and possibly damage the in ears and at least I can't successfully route it around the ear. A shirt clip helps and some Etys come with one.

>>60242740
You might be able to squeeze HD 600 in that budget.
>>
>>60245859
>even after 10 or more hours, the clamp of the HD600 still feels very tight both on my head and on my cheeks.
How long have you had the HD600 for? Mine are two month old, and they don't clamp at all.

Pretty surprising if they can get that good a sound out of such tiny speakers.

Am I reading it wrong, or is the ballhead stands another 490 euros as well?

I've got a pair of LSR305s and love them, especially after adding a subwoofer.

>>60246045
I agree. That's the reason why I applied a soft cushion on the headband. It's super comfortable now. This aside, I find the clamp of the K702 much better.

>>60246131
I've had HD600 for 3 days. Yeah, I know that it's not much, but I used them a lot in this period, then I expected them to get looser. Maybe they'll be more comofprtable in a little time.
>>
>>60245859
I've had similar observations with my K7XX and HD 6XX. They're really not all that different, and generally speaking the K7XX is more comfortable. I probably haven't worn them enough, but the HD 6XX's clamp is still noticeable and annoying. If I don't bend the metal a little before wearing them each time they're way too tight.

That said, I've found that the HD 6XX usually handles anything resembling rock/classic rock/guitar-heavy music a bit better between the two. I prefer the K7XX for games, general purpose use, and electronic music.

Yeah, you're gonna have to wait considerably longer. I also used them a lot (8h/day) and it took a good couple weeks to stop being skull drilling annoying.

On the first day, it even *hurt*.
>>
>>60246360
>Not even 3 days and switching back/forth with k702.
I suggest you put the k702 away and give yourself a good month or so to really get used to HD600.
Then you can try k702 again and actually see the differences.

I'm looking for some sub $100 headphones to use for running/cycling/general fitness, and I hate IEMs, I've been looking at the M40X but I think they might be too hot and have too much sound isolation to use for running and cycling. DT770's imo would be the direct upgrade from M50X's. They both share the same sound signature while the 770's do it better (Bass isn't as muddy, more treble, actual soundstage, etc.) and they're much more comfortable out of the box.

The thing is, it's not that much better but it's just about as close to perfect (okay I actually have the HD 650) as you can get with a conventional design. It sits right on the edge of cliff of diminishing returns in my opinion.

I also found the K702 headband annoying after a while and don't really notice HD650 clamp at this point.

Hah, they mistyped price. It is should be 49,00€ instead of 490€ http://www.abacus-audio.org/122-0-C-Box.html. They also have a new website https://www.abacus-electronics.de/c-box3.html. You can mostly find comments on their sound on german forums, but so far people been presently surprised with them including soundstage with only drawback being pushing them very loud which would start distorting the bass. JBL is no brainer but they are rather huge, these ones are a perfect fit for my desktop and since they are closed placing them close to wall should make no difference. They are not cheap tho.

Does anyone here have the wireless Sennheiser Urbanite XL? I'm looking to buy a pair of budget, wireless cans to use on the go, and from the reviews I've read and the price tag only being $125, coming from $250, they seem like a pretty solid deal

Currently using a pair of ATH-M40X, but after 5 years of constant use, the plastic hinges are now held together by zip ties and I'm tired of dragging those huge cables along.

Open the 600 headband fully and apply pressure to the metal band and bend outwards. The band is solid as fuck and wont break. You can fix the pressure issue right now as long as you don't bend it whilst holding the plastic like a fucking retard.

So I want to upgrade to an SR-007. I mainly listen to classical and want the most neutral sound possible. The SR-009 is from what I've read very analytical (and pretty treble heavy) and probably way too unforgiving for all the horribly recorded/produced music out there. The SR-307 and the lambda's in general have way too much treble, the bass feels bloated as well. Question 1: is this really worth the upgrade seeing it's 2k and it's basically just a different EQ with exactly the same technology behind it. I've read a lot online that you're supposed to have a great pairing amp with it. The output of the 323S is 400v and is 50 volts less that the 727ii (which is supposedly a great pairing, and the next level would be 5k for an amp). I don't really want to upgrade my amp and I don't care for tubes. Question 2: will my amp be sufficient in driving it?
>>
>>60249565
You're not wrong about it sounding more neutral. With that big bass boost, it doesn't sound as bright as I remembered my 681's. It has that nice bass boost I wanted coming from the 681's all collected in the wrong place. I think at some point I'll test the 681's again and its other F and B variants too see which I'll keep.
>>
>>60250241
SR-007 is worst STAX. SR-009 has less treble than most Lambdas from my experience.

None of them are close to neutral. I don't have experience with electrostatic amps to post.

No. The headband doesn't change that drastically. It takes months for it to loosen 50% of what you want. Don't be a faggot, and apply some pressure to the SOLID FUCKING METAL BAND. apply pressure, as much as you want and do it 10 seconds at a time. You will feel the difference after the first go or two. >>60250241
>which is supposedly a great pairing
727 is garbage for the 007's. Even after I did the feedback mod on my old one, it was still way too dark. You're better off with the entry amp at that point. 323S is fine too, and you can always build a nicer amp later.

Also, it's not the exact same tech. The stators and such are built differently. Omega frames are a straight upgrade over all lambdas in terms of detail, bass and all that.

No. Unmodded 007 Mk II's have a midbass bump that makes them sound a bit warm. Plug the bass port to make them like a Mk I and they level out.

Tonally, if you've heard a Spirit/Nova Basic/202/207 lambda, they're just a little less treble than those. Pretty close to a Nova Signature as well.

>>
>>60251878
007?
Like all Stax headphones and innumerable other headphones make, it has a 10kHz peak to it. Relatively speaking.
Unlike the other Stax, this one has a wide trough from above ~1.4 kHz to 9-10kHz, much like the earlier Audeze headphones.

The Lambda treble issues, if I remember right, are in the ~10 kHz peak and another one lower down, somewhere around 5-6kHz. Or maybe you don't like the peak between 1-2kHz?
Bass bloat is a fit problem. Ideally fitted Lambdas should be dead flat. This is a bit harder to do than it might sound.

Subbass is kinda lacking, port or no port. The vent on SZ2 and later lifts up the midbass somewhat.
Stax has made recent changes to the SR-007 fairly recently. I haven't kept track of that one.

>>60235264
>Poster in the prev thread was claiming that soundstage can be created through EQ, others disagreed.
Of course it can, although I figure you are asking about it in the wrong way.
Localization is intrinsically dependent on magnitude response shifts. More simple than that, it can provide loudness differences in sounds.
As a note, using EQ can also collapse the impression of soundstage.

>>60235158
>EQ works on all linear properties of the headphone. To the extent of what headphones alter soundstage boils down to just frequency response. You can tune it if you know what you are doing with it.
EQ can certainly affect everything linear. It only explicitly controls the magnitude, the phase is just along for the ride. To really control for phase/reflections, you basically have to define the inverse function yourself, via convolution. Same idea: you multiply the signal by some factor, the magnitude is multiplied by some factor and the phase is added together.
Of course, since a single driver is strongly in minimum phase, there isn't much to say about the linear properties besides EQ anyway.

>Headphone is the steak, main part of your course and also the most important one. You don't skimp on that.

Definitely. In this case, it's a no brainer. I suggest a Schiit Fulla 2, due to really good value/price.

Besides getting rid of the hiss, if your motherboard didn't have an amp, you'll get better sound from your HD598. These headphones have some crazy pronounced impedance variation across the frequency range, so they sound very different (and better) with an amp.

Audeze's customer service is legendary. Call me a shill. I own a pair of 2nd hand LCD-2s which were sent in for repairs a couple weeks ago.

If you're buying used LCD-2s that have cracked wood, be very careful.

Ask the seller when he purchased the headphones. This is very important!

If he feeds you the "They have a 3 year warranty!" meme, then he's trying to take you to pound town and you should report him on whatever site you saw his listing from. The 3 year warranty is only eligible for the drivers of the headphones. This does NOT include the wood rings!

The wood rings only come with a 1 year warranty, and it's likely the dude is trying to get rid of them since sending them in for repairs out of pocket could cost him a chunk of change.

I would contact Audeze customer support before you buy (tweet at them, email them, whatever) and ask them how much fixing a cracked wooden ring would cost out of pocket. (If you're nice about it, and you make it sound it it wasn't any fault of your own, they will usually do it free of charge depending on the revision of the LCD2 in question. The earlier versions had QC issues with cracking wood.)

Let's say Audeze tells you that it's gonna cost $150 bucks to replace the wood rings out of pocket (ignoring shipping). You can take this information and call out the seller and force him to lower his price even further because of that cost. Assuming that the headphones are already "cheaper" than normal 2nd hand LCD2s because they are cracked, you could be saving a lot of shekels.

Make sure that you check the serial number on the inside of the headband of the headphones. Make sure that number matches the certificate of authenticity. And check that number on Audeze's website to see if it is genuine. (in real time!)

Make sure that wherever the seller bought his LCD2s is actually an authorized Audeze dealer, and that he has the receipt. Otherwise Audeze will likely refuse to honor any sort of service on warranty.

I have 18 cm hands. Kinda do like a relaxed claw grip on the FK2. I kinda palmed the AM when I had that like 5 years ago, and clawed the original FK. This is smaller than the FK and FK1 I think.

Unless you're coming from an FK1+ I don't know if this is a great palming mouse. YMMV

It's funny you mention that, I'm looking back at my amazon orders and what I assumed was a choice of size between the EC1-A, was actually the difference between the EC1 and the EC2.

I assumed they were the same model, different sizes. but it's possible the EC2 is an improvement.

I also ordered the FK1 and FK1+, so far the only one with all buttons tight and functioning well was the FK1 standard size

am considering just going with a steelseries sensei to see if it's any better

>>

Not the anon asking for the gaymen headset.

Your points are valid and I actually agree with you, but different people need different things.

>why would you do that instead of getting a good pair of headphones + v-moda boompro/modmic

New modmics are 70 USD on amazon. Something like a HD598 without those yearly blackfriday sales are 150+ new.

Versus something like the HyperX Cloud II which is less than 100 USD.

Going higher end, something like the PC360 Game One is 180 USD.

>gayman headphones look really tacky as well

I agree with you here. They look ridiculous to me as well, but maybe the anon asking likes that look? Who are you to judge?

Of course it's music dependent, in fact heavily so, and it's very loosely dependent on the gear. It also depends on the encoder, format, data rate and your skill in listening for the artifacts. This is subjective and something that you train but requires knowledge of the compression artifacts characteristic for the codec. You don't become a golden ear just by listening and hifi gear doesn't necessarily aid in the process of spotting the artifacts. DACs and amps are completely irrelevant.

16/44 sounds fine to me
there is no point to go higher unless the audio files you are listening to are higher resolution than 16/44
so unless you listen to 24 bit or 32 bit recordings, there's no need
>>
>>60259050
If changing the sampling rate from 44.1 kHz and above changes the sound in any way there's something wrong. It's either a terrible resampler or a terrible DAC and in both cases the difference should be tiny. 44.1 kHz covers the human audible spectrum and if everything works, there simply isn't a a difference.

Bit depth just alters the quantization noise floor, the theoretical dynamic range imposed by the format. Your system's noise floor is likely far higher than what the output format limits. Keep it at 24 bit at there's no downside.
>>
>>60259150
I have a soundcard, some Xi-Fi thing, not sure if that matters. But yes I do hear an actual difference, and I agree that I obviously shouldn't hear one, especially not when listening to music that is 44.1kHz so it makes little to no sense that I do.

But it is definitely there. Even clicking that "Test" button there is a huge difference in quality of the little jingle that plays.

16 bit 44.1 sounds worse than my phone so something is definitely up with this.

>>60257459
I bet all of you use those headphones for mastering your audio recordings. Holy shit what a bunch of faggots.
Those kind of headphones are not meant to be used for home listening, they are industry standard because they seal well, are decently flat and very hard to destroy, which is really fucking important if you run studio and people use your shit. And last but not least, cheap. Have you ever wondered why no one here post their beyer dt100/150/250 ever despite those headphones being ACTUAL industry standard outside of japan? Because no one uses shit for professional work as home headphones. Those sony phones are only exception due to meme status and weebs like you eating this shit up because it's from muh japan.
Any $100+ open snapheiser or akg phones are better than this meme.
But as we all know, you care more about your meme cred than how your headphones sound.
>>
>>60259237
I think I figured it out. My audio control panel, the soundcard one, digital output on it is set to 48KHz, so I assume going below this clashes with the digital output setting itself making it sound like shit. That's why 44100 sounds bad regardless of bit depth, I can get 16 Bit at 48000 to sound good.

Snake oil didn't really do anything. This could still be weirdness because of the card. Reinstall/update sound card drivers, disable all possible enhancements there might be present. The titanium does all processing internally (on its DSP) at 96/24.

If you feed it 192 (or anything else really), it'll only get resampled to 96/24.

Definitely possible that the same issues with power and noise are transferred to USB DACs which are powered by the laptop. An external USB DAC with good power filtering can work. A device that has its own power source is a safer bet but can be unwieldy.

I will second the cloud recommendation. I just got mine this week and they're pretty damn good especially for the 45% sale I got them for. I got the II's though because I'm a pleb and enjoy virtual surround.

Is the Monoprice Desktop Headphone amp still a good buy or is it dated at this point?
I'd like to use it to drive my HD600 and my 250 ohm DT880.
I have a dragonfly black but it seems to struggle with the large headphones, although to be fair it does magic with my IEMs compared to my phone's dac.
I know the schiit stack is superior but it's way out of my price range.

I'm actually currently in the process of ordering a discrete dac+amp anyway

Yes, that's what creative tells you.

No, the DSP is locked at 96KHz 24bit.

Yes, you can bypass the DSP, using ASIO, WASAPI and such.

No, you won't be doing that normally, at all, so your DSP will be resampling that 192KHz down to 96KHz.
