Asking again here:

So is the cheapest 'good' android phone on the market in the west the Zenfone 3? I seem to be able to buy on Amazon for roughly £250/$320.

Is there cheaper out there without any more of a drop in quality?
>>

depends on whether your carrier still supports 2G

Even a phone from 1999 would work with any sim card. It is the GSM band support that you need to look for.

No.
Zuk Z2
Honor 6X
ZTE Blade V8 Pro
Honor 8

all are better.
>>
>>60101410
>it only has 4cores on the cpu, won't it slow down faster than an 8core cpu phone?
it doesn't work that way. Pic related is for desktop CPUs but it's basically the same for mobile CPUs. You can't just compare the number of cores, a dual core CPU can be more powerful than an octacore one if the individual cores are more powerful.

Moto G5 comes with close to stock Nougat and the plus version has the same CPU, the Snapdragon 625, at a lower price than the Zenfone 3 but it doesn't seem like it's available in Britbongland yet, at least not on Amazon.co.uk.

it's exclusively sold by Carphone Warehouse in the UK, and they only sell the 2GB ram version, which is pretty ridiculous when the regular G5 is available with 3GB RAM.

>>
>>60101731
Eh, I'd probably get the regular Moto G5 with 3GB RAM over the Zenfone anyways, because the Zenfone has such a retarded skin which will probably slow down the performance. If you only need a phone that's good enough then I'd just grab the cheapest one available that isn't total ass like the Moto G5 and wait and see if there's any phones with killer specs for the price out in a year or so, instead of buying a subpar phone now and keeping it for longer.

You realise people can use your IMEI to report their phone stolen and get yours blacklisted?
>>
>People who prioritize battery life over everything else
Why? If you need to watch anime for 12 hours a day then just get a tablet or laptop which saves battery on your phone. Phones nowadays charge from 0-100 in less than an hour, what do you NEETs do where you need your phone to last for a week without having access to a wall socket?

Any recommendations on something newish, cheap with good rom support? I'm thinking a Nexus 5x or a 6P.

They are both shit.
5X is bootlooping, and 6P has a ton of hardware problem too. get a Moto G5/G5+ if you wanna experiment with roms on the cheap.
>>
>>60102283
What are the hardware problems like on the 6p?
Not looking to experiment with roms, I just want to keep my phone up to date when new versions of android come out, would probably just stick to lineage. I did look at the moto g5+ but if anything it's a downgrade to my galaxy alpha in some respects

Bootloops and battery shutdowns. Also they both only get Android O and that's it.
>>

>>60101633
As someone who owned the original Moto G , I can't help but shake the feeling that the newest ones are just sort of not amazing for the price. The quality of the 16GB version I bought was way better than you would expect for $200. You got ambient light sensors, a 720p screen, noise cancellation, completely stock Android and best of all, years of OS and security updates. The new ones don't seem to offer anything substantially better than the competition. I think it's a result of Lenovo resting on the brand's laurels; not necessarily making it worse, but failing to respond when the competition gets better.

When the original Moto G was around, you had to spend a lot more money to beat it. By the time I was looking at a G4, the Nexus 5X was not substantially pricier and you got a much better phone, so needless to say that is what I chose.
>>
>>60102307
>keep my phone up to date
>stick to lineage
lineage can't even keep nexus/pixels up to date as they don't ship updated firmwares and vendor images. so their security patch level is always a lie.
they only android devices that get actual updates are still supported stock nexus/pixel devices.
>>
>>60102054
Many of us are not NEETs, sorry to burst your bubble.

I have a Blackberry Leap. Cheap phone with low end specs but god damn, being able to consistently go two days between charges with moderate use is so fucking nice. Meanwhile my girlfriend's Nexus 6P is lucky to make it through the day. Helps when you have an OS that prioritizes power management and (for better or worse) doesn't have cancerous apps eating up your battery.

>>
Any chance I could get a phone recommendation in the budget of <$50? I just switched to Consumer Cellular (with an AT&T SIM) but my S4 only supports CDMA. I tried a Blu Jenny TV from Amazon, but I guess it doesn't work due to AT&T no longer supporting 2G.

Really, I just want a stupid cheap feature phone for texting and phone calls, with long battery life. I'll still use my S4 for everything else via WiFi.

I realize I should probably be searching local Craigslist ads, but those are mostly just iPhones and other totally-not-stolen devices.

I'd think that as old as feature phones are, there should at least be one go-to budget oriented phone made to work on modern netwroks

It's a bit more complicated than that picture shows in the mobile phone space too.

Mediatek 6750 for example has four A53 1.5GHz cores and four weaker A53 1.0GHz cores. The idea is to let weak cores that use less power do the work most of the time and use the more power-hungry cores do the more demanding work.

Most "8-core" phones are actually like this; they are just two sets of 4-core CPUs for different purposes.

If you can make a CPU-core that can scale down far enough to where it barely uses power that's still able to clock up when needed you're able to make a nice four-code alternative to the typical 8-core mobile CPU.

>>60102054
I prioritize battery life, it's one of the most important factors when I look at a phone. I used to have dumb-phones with a battery that lasted a week or more (before smartphones). That was great in so many ways. I've had several smartphones throughout the years.

If your phone doesn't last a full day of normal usage then it's just not good enough. I've had phones who didn't. But this isn't where the bigger battery is needed. It's those rare occasions where you use maps/GPS for long periods of time or so something else unusual that drains the battery that it's good to have that extra juice so you get through a full day anyway.

So my Priv arrived today, and I'm pretty damn pleased with my purchase. Nice camera, nice near-stock Android, nice device, even nice box. It does however get pretty damn toasty under heavy load though, and I need to get myself a new nano-SIM for it tomorrow.

The keyboard is super satisfying, though I'm still getting used to it as it's actually touch sensitive to gestures.

Surprisingly, some of the builtin software that it comes with is actually pretty slick too. Hub is a damn good email client, the productivity tab is a lot more useful than I expected, and DTEK is like a shittier Privacy Guard (one of my favourite CM features tho) but still werks. However, it is a shame I can't fully uninstall the generic Google bloat, but oh well.

I'd just like to give thanks to whichever anon told me about the sale a few days ago over here >>60072453, you're a pretty swell guy.

Haven't used a smartphone for 4 years but 1 week ago I got the Samsung Galaxy S8 and I both love it and have it. The hardware is undeniably sexy and insanely comfortable, however the software (Android as a whole) is underwhelming. Sure there are lots of apps, I can change the launcher and the icons, I can torrent, mo e the internal files and much more.

But the entire Android experience and interface feels unpolished and hacked together. Anyone know what I mean? For example, when you apply an icon pack, only the icons in the app drawer and the dock change. When you press the defence button all the apps still have their stock icons. Small details like this annoy me.

So here's my question: Would iOS and an iPhone 7 be better for me?

I have the possibility of getting either a Lenovo P2 or a Huawei P10 for the same price. These are the only options, and I need to decide quickly.
Lenovo P2:
+Huge battery (important for me)
+AMOLED Screen
+All right performance
+Decent Camera
-A bit too big
-Heavy
-1GB LTE,100 minutes of phone calls, 100 SMS per month
-Only available in a couple of weeks where i live
Huawei P10:
+Very good performance
+Good battery life
+Great camera
+Slim and light
+1GB LTE, unlimited 3G, unlimited SMS/phone calls
-Not as good battery life
-Not AMOLED display
I'm leaning towards the P10 but the battery is pretty important for me and my plan was to get the P2 until recently. Which phone should I choose?

I've only had my XA1 for like a day, got it from clove.co.uk for £230

The cam's great, battery drains slower than my Note 4 did, well made.

I really like how it sits in your hand with the buttons and whatnot. The power/volume always went off on their own in my pockets with the Note 4, but these are just right, and it feels quite solid.

Honestly if I could change anything I'd make the screen a higher resolution and maybe add the USB 3 the XZ Premium's getting but it was only £230 after all.

Actually expected to be disappointed but it'll do.

It looks as if it has stereo front-facing speakers. Weird because it seems to only use a bottom grille for a speaker. Guessing the front ones are for the ear speaker and mic.

Is the XA1 the same as the XA? Or is it the same as the XA ultra?
>>
>>60115982
P10 hands down. Non-Motorola Lenovo phones are garbage and are being pulled down from the marked.
>>
>>60116672
It's the new XA. There's an XA Ultra on there but I didn't want a fuckhuge phone, Note 4 was always falling out of my pocket at the gym unless I had zipped pockets. Better for running if it's small, too.

Looking to upgrade from my LG G3, budget is around £300. What do you guys recommend
>>
>>60116385
Hi. Look at the projected specs of the new one decide if that's worth the wait for you. alternatively, you could wait til the new one is out and buy the 3T when it's even cheaper
>>
>>60114095
Nothing wrong with it, it's just memes. The Z line is actually quite underrated and the G5 is a good budget option if you don't want to go full chink

So my old smartphone, which was given to me by a relative who bought a new phone finally fucking broke after years (Some old Sony Ericsson Xperia model) so now i need a new phone.

Thing is that basically all i'm going to do with it is use shit like whatsapp and listen to music while i'm traveling. And of course receiving calls. I still want at least Android 6, though.
Anyways, i'm not looking to spend huge amounts of money. Just want a working smartphone that doesn't shit itself whenever i use more than 2 apps.

The phone that caught my attention and seems to be recommended a lot is the Moto G4, however one of my main concerns is the fact that you can not replace the battery. It seems as thought replaceable battery is not something many reviews take into consideration when they rate the product. Is it not going to be a problem? I don't want this things battery to die after 2 or 3 years and not be able to replace it

Other than that i haven't really found anything better so far. This phone is 160€ here in germany. I heard the Plus version has a replacable battery but it got worse reviews.

Halp.
>>
>>60117499
Fuck, also just noticed that this one apparently can't playback FLAC audio format. What the heck? Even the old as fuck Xperia i have can do that.
>>
>>60117610
Flac is a meme and terrible waste of space especially on a phone

But if you're sure
Buy a OnePlus one on Amazon or swappa for ~$150
64GB storage without sim
3100 mah battery but also nonreplacable
>>
What's the census on the LG X Power? Had to make a quick switch, my last phone was on the edge of an hero. I think it's a pretty alright one so far but I'm curious.
>>
>>60117499
Sorry about your luck bro but most phone companies got away from replaceable batteries from affordable phones, Moto G5 had one and all the shotty LG variants probably do as well but I would avoid the LGs like the plague
>>
>>60117686
It's shit, all LG variants below the G line are garbage, what's your budget?
>>
>>60117499
Get a Moto G5, battery is replaceable

>>60117610
It can play flac, every android phone can
>>
>>60117725
Probably around 400 to 500 at most if anything
>>
>OnePlus 3T

>No one local sells it

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, I want it now.
>>
>>60117731
Oh. I looked it up on the Motorola website and it only listed MP3, WAV and so on, but no FLAC

I'm looking for a new phone with a great battery and (possibly) a microsd slot. I'm with verizon and can only get one of these phones, https://www.verizonwireless.com/smartphones/

Please help
>>
Is there any way to replace the battery on the g5 plus when it inevitably dies after two years?

Or will it be a complete brick after that?
>>
>>60118187
$145, was on a sale for $50 less. ironically, it cost less than my current, older phone, an Ace II X
>>
How's the google pixel? Is it worth getting the XL if I'm pushing a bit on money for it.
>>
>>60118245
I think you easily could've got a G 4th gen one for that.

But the g2 is still a great phone, even today. You can try Lineage if you want, I personally wouldn't do it unless you're unhappy with the stock one, since much can go wrong. So if you know what you're doing: why not?
>>
>>60118337
oh, shit, i have literally no idea wtf i am doing, so maybe i won't go with lineage.

I really just want to put 7.0 on it, frankly. I have a weird irk with outdated software, but the g2 ended support after 6.0.
>>
>>60111410
all of those are in massively different price ranges

>Mi 5s if you want good mix of performance and price
>Mi Mix if you wanna look cool and are ok to shell out the extra cash
>Redmi 4x or Redmi Note 4 for best bang for buck

My note 4 just went to shit after installing marshmallow.
What's a good replacement?
I want a big screen and mostly use it for music and podcasts. I have giant hands and I'm on at&t.

I want a good performing phone without spending meme $, might look into the mi 5s pro or op3t.

Seems pretty good to me, I haven't used the zuk z2. I installed that mokee rom, works well. No headphone jack is goofy but the earbuds and 3.5mm to USB-C adapter it comes with are fine.

Fingerprint reader is flaky though, like the sensor gets put to sleep when it shouldn't. Same issue with the official ROM (well, the shady ass "USA" vendor ROM the seller flashed).

I figure mokee is the lesser of two chinese evils when it comes to ROMs for this phone. LTE works on ATT.
>>
>>60117747
Damn that's a lot of choices, for that money I would recommend the Xperia X or X Performance

My Wileyfox Swift finally got the OTA Nougat update ready. Is it worth it, or did they fug it up?

This is a tablet question. Somebody has this problem too? Android apps on 4:3 aspect ratio screens seems to miss and entire right column in landscape mode that renders in an eternal loading animation.

I will never choose android again with their glorified phone apps right ported into tablets

woah

So, yeah, I'll try to install MIUI 8. Right now I have a 7.3.6.0.0 something and android 5.1.1. Will I be able to update both?
>>
>>60119734
I would say so, I would get the X for Quick Charge 3.0 and the larger full HD screen, but the 2 Plus is good if you want a phone with 5" 720P screen on it
>>
>>60101318
What's the least curry Custom ROM for ZTE Axon 7
>>
>>60119898
MIUI8 is just Xiaomi's customizations on top of a newer Android version (either 6 or 7 i'm not sure). So yes, you'll be able to update both if you find the correct ROM.
>>
>>60119997
lineage os has official builds iirc

>>60120093
They should go hand in hand. Try updating to MIUI8 and then see what your Android version is. I'm pretty sure MIUI versions are tied to Android versions.

Try a Zerolemon battery/case combo. Their batteries are great. My S4 Galaxy got one in 2013 and it still works fine.

What rom should I get for a redmi note 4 if any ?
>>
>>60103770

I'm not a Zerolemon shill but I fucking love their batteries since I use Waze for navigation. I'd get their battery/case combo and rock the S6. I'm still using my S4 with a 2013 Zerolemon battery.
>>
>>60118376
If you have a weird irk with outdated software, you shouldn't have bought an Android, familia.

Even if you put 7.0 on it, you're still 2 versions behind (7.1.1, 7.1.2).

Only way around that shit is to buy a Pixel or buy an iPhone. Even the brand new S8 launches with only 7.0. It's sad.
