Unplug your computer, wait for the light inside to go out, press the power button like 3 times, plug it in, turn it on, and then try.

If that doesn't work, you probably damaged a USB bus on the motherboard.

>inb4 universal serial bus bus
>>
>>60086423
Did you knock the USB connector loose? Sounds like you didn't plug something in correctly while reassembling. You could try disconnecting everything and reconnecting it again.

It's the Shoulder Screw, part of the Independent Loading Mechanism. Found the backplate + screws are Molex part number 47596-8830, there are a couple of US sites that sell them, https://www.onlinecomponents.com/molex-waldom-475968830.html?p=42986738&utm_source=octopart&utm_medium=inventoryrefferal&utm_campaign=octopart&ref=OctopartFeed

Alternatively, it's got a 6-32 thread, could just use a normal bolt + washer.

Or even leave it off entirely, just screw down your cooler evenly and suitably tight, that can be all the pressure it needs.

Anyone know of anywhere to buy reasonably priced SSDs in the UK? £70 for 240GB seems awfully steep considering thats the same price it was like 3 years ago now
>>

Ssd prices are high everywhere due to price fixing. Same with RAM.

There's chink ssds, but they're not that much cheaper and you risk the quality.

How do you curve text in an image using free software ? I tried using gimp and finally got aligned how i want but it does this weird outline only thing and i have no idea how to fill the text in. I tried using paint.net but the plugin to do it can use font sized larger than 288 and I am working on a rather large image.

Like all I am trying to do is write text along a slight curve instead of a straight line and its improving to be impossible...

Whats the middle team called ...

My grandmother describes working on a portable device project where there's a "user experience team" working on html/css and a little javascript, and a "backend team" working on the API and database from which the project draws. But there's also an intermediate team who use javascript to draw from the API and process into objects & arrays for the front-end team to use. What name does that middle team have in other shops?

No. You'd be improving performance from 100ms every couple hours that you open or save the file down to 10ms every couple hours

Caching is better for frequently used files such as for the OS where you'd be saving the 10ms every few seconds

Anyone have an idea why my wireless router only transfers files on the same lan to my android at only 400kb/s? It's supposed to be a gigabit router but even my normal internet speed is faster than this
>>
>>60090872
You will never receive max speed on a wireless connection, there is too much shit that can cause degradation.
The gigabit portion references the hard line RJ-45 connectors speed.
There is currently no gigabit wifi
>>
>>60090992
wouldn't it still be better than a shitty <1M/s? It's at 5GHz as well and I'm like 4 ft from the router. If I run a speedtest I get 15Mb/s and that's using internet. wouldn't the LAN speed be a lot faster?
>>
>>60090992
>There is currently no gigabit wifi
Technically AC can do more than that, it just requires a killer router and devices with the maximum number of antennas.

Did you disable your cellular data before running the test?

If those are 1Mbit/s then something is wrong with your network, use some Wifi Analyzer app to check if you're not overstepping some channels with your neighbors and to calculate the best channel for your device.

if it matters, I'm using an asus rt n56u
>>
>>60091219
There's almost never any competition on the 5ghz band anyway, given its short range. I'd try and pin down the source of the issue. Try sharing files with a wireless laptop, and try using ES file explorer for file sharing on your phone; it's bloatey, but it works well for testing purposes.

So, should i let it overheat till it hits thermal shutdown to see what happens?
In this kind of cases you use a heatgun over the GPU and thats it right?

Is there something wrong with PC gaming on a HDTV?

I often see console gamers say things like "who wants to game on a monitor?" To me it seems if you plug a PC to a HDTV via HDMI you can have the best of both worlds.
Or is this frowned upon because TV's don't have g-sync or something?
>>
>>60091219
>none of my neighbors are on the 5GHz frequency
You sure?, my ISP was giving away 5Ghz modems like candy a few weeks ago, that's how i got one so its not some top line AP either, of course nobody use them because no one has 5Ghz here on the far south, but they still leave their SSIDs open.

>smb
I have reached 1Gbp/s speeds on SMB on my wired network so i would discard that out.
Something might be throttling your connection, its the PC with the files connected to your rt n56u or another switch, if at some point you're doing NAT, or if your modem switch only has 100Mb ports could limit your speed.

there can be depending on how the external drive is connected. USB 3 is going to slow things down a lot compared to SATA
>>
>>60091466
USB 3.0 is 5 gbit/s
Sata 3.3 is 16 gbit/s

Current SATA SSDs are only clocking in upwards of 550mbit/s.

So no, a usb 3 connector is not going to slow anything down.
>>
>>60091273
my old laptop doesn't even support 5ghz, but on the 2.4ghz i'm getting 4MB/s from the other side of the house.

>>60091360
well I used a wifi channel scanner on my phone and it said there wasn't anything being picked up in the 5ghz band. All I have wired on the lan is the modem, router/access point, and the desktop connected directly to the router.
All four ports on the rt n56u are 10/100/1000 so I don't think that's the problem.
>>
>>60089431
>Is storing CDs/DVDs stacked as in pic related a bad idea?

CDs kinda, since the reflective side is pretty easy to damage since it's just a layer of lacquer protecting it. DVDs it's fine, since there's a full layer of plastic on both sides.

You dont have a graphic card, but a GPU, a small one inside your CPU, its not strong but werks.

All of your media files are already in a compressed format. You cannot compress compressed data.
If you wanted to store them together in an archive, sure, but you wont be saving any space doing so
>>
>>60092697

Profound sadness.jpg

tl;dr: PC randomly shutting down, what are some common reasons that could be causing it. Not overheating, ram, motherboard bios, and something not seated properly.

My PC is not overheating as I initially thought after reapplying thermal pastes and adding new fans cause the crash would regularly happen even when it's idle at 40 degrees.

It's not the ram, I would have weird issues occasionally after the crash where some of my ram would not recognized by windows and I solved that problem by replacing the ram but the computer still crashes. I just don't have ram issue anymore.

Google results gave me a few suggestions:
Reseat everything
Update or reflash bios for the motherboard
The rest I already did above
Check what the crash error says, it doesn't give any info other than unexpected.

It's still crashing and I cannot seem to troubleshoot what is the issue.
>>
>>>60092882
When you say shutting down do you mean it turns off completely, instantly?

Or do you mean it actually goes through the regular process of shutting down, just without you doing it yourself?

Also how frequently does this happen?
>>
>>60092921
Instantly
At least 5-10 times a week. Sometimes I'll have a good day and think I solved whatever the issue is and then it'll shut down once or twice every other day.

This has been happening for the last two weeks. I noticed I forgot to mention I bought a better PSU because I thought that was the issue (and it was very old, 4 years I think).

To add to this it's very noticeable if you plan to play rhythm games or fighting games where timing is paramount; i.e: needing to consistently time within a 16.7 ms window in IIDX [pic related].

I've also never been able to get a stable monitor check in rhythm games on an HDTV. It won't be a perfect 60 like a CRT but on monitors I can guarantee it to be something like 59.99X whereas if I connect my cheap 40" HDTV it can wildly swing between 59.1XX to 60.5XX.

So I've been reading about overclocking a i7 7700k and I keep being told it's simple in that all I have to do is change the clock ratio and voltage.

How come I'm seeing guides that do a whole bunch of other steps like this one for example:

http://edgeup.asus.com/2017/01/31/kaby-lake-overclocking-guide/3/

>Set IA DC Load Line to 0.01
>Set IA AC Load Line to 0.01

I don't know what any of this means and they don't explain it in this article. So what do these do and am I safe with just messing with the voltage and clock ratio? I don't really want to mess with settings I don't know about.

depends on the game you will see drops below 100 in processor heavy games like rainbow 6 siege but rx480 isn't an amazing card either. you're only going to see 144+ in cs and even then around 200fps which means your mouse movement feels terrible

>>
>>60097013
there are a couple things you can do to try and get more info. I'll just ask real quick though because I ran into this with Comcast: are you using Xfinity or something? Those routers provided by the ISP have a default functionality to try and peer with each other if they aren't properly segregated up steam at the box. I had to have somebody come out and install a piece of hardware to keep my router from trying to peer with my neighbors. It would go down periodically every time the peering was re-initiated by one of us (usually from us manually restarting after being pissed about poor traffic quality).

If you're familiar with wireshark it's pretty easy to set up a packet capture and see what is flying around the network. see if you can take a small capture window and maybe post it in a pastebin or screen-cap

take you time I follow these threads while I'm at work. It might be talktalk has similar tech but I'd have to look it up. I know that there are youtube videos on how to do a basic wireshark network capture

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkCSr30UojM

if you save your capture as a .pcap file it can be rendered specially by other programs

This may sound weird but I'm having an issue with my Firefox search history on android. It's displaying a number of sites as having been viewed today. Only I haven't viewed most of these sites in weeks or months. Is there some kind of error that could cause this?

Why there're no AC/DC adapters with female jack? I can't find any 6V adapter to plug a 3.5x1.5 jack into it, all I see are universal adapters with male jacks.

Impossible. You require a modem for internet connection. There are a lot of devices that are both a modem and router in one. You're probably using that.

Does anyone know if it's possible to apply the same function across rows in LibreOffice?

Basically I have a simple B1/2.2 for the value in C1. Now I want every row below to be the same, as in C2=B2/2.2, C3=B3/2.2.

Does this have a name I could research more?

Wew lad, thanks, works like a charm.
However, let's say I wanted to make it the default, as in, apply to ALL rows, is that possible? Kinda like how when you click on the row or column title to select all (infinite) rows and columns.
I don't know why, it's just seems cleaner that way.

I don't think that's it, I'm not signed into sync on my desktop or phone. What I think was really happening was that my phone was opening random pages that I had visited in the past. I just don't know what caused it.

When I opened the browser in the morning there was a tab open on bing images of a pornstar, one that I have looked at before. The search history has a few pages, some porn videos along with two pages from two different video game wikis and one google search for porn. Everything before that is just stuff that I had looked up before I went to bed.

You have a modem. You need a router. Any router will work with your modem.
>>
>>60098194
Sounds liek coax.
Your modem you receive your signal on will have atleast 1 lan cable on it,otherwise you wouldnt be able to connect anything to it. You would connect the router there and plug everything else in to it
>>
>>60098240
you can buy those tiny 2 port splitters that are technically switches but nobody calls them that because a proper switch should have 4 ports or more

Well, I'll make a damn scheme since you cannot understand. gimme a min in paint.
>>
>>60097757
usually if the TTL is exceeded it means there were more router hops than were expected so the last hop to get the IP packet when the TTL is 0 just drops it.

there is something misconfigured routing-wise on your network, or between your network and your ISP/this resource you are trying to hit.

pick something that you are having issues with and run a traceroute against it in the command line, the traceroute should show you at what point the TTL is being exceeded. Let me know when you've found that.

What do you mean by "power supply"? The wall outlet? Generally the adapter and cord are just one unit, unless you're talking like cellphone chargers that are just powered USB ports that you can attach whatever cord you want as long as it's USB-b on one end.

PS. cable its not your problem. USB wont explode when you will use it witch 6V. you need power suply that meets this req and cable that can hold 3A and have correct plug.
PSS uf u dont know that is diff between 5 and 6V dont use verb "idiot".

Are there any alternatives? once I've seen a PSU with a detachable cable with a 5.5x2.5 plug, I imagine they make them for 4.0x1.7 too but, I've already tried searching and there's nothing on ebay.
>>
>>60098447
That cable is intended for use in a standard USB 2.0 outlet. That's just what USB puts out. You would need a source that outputs more than USB does, so that cable is not what you are looking for.

I mean alternatives to my failed workaround, like a way to connect directly the plug to an AC adapter, if an adapter with a female plug like that exists in the first place.

ah ok i think I see what is going on.

see those addresses starting with 78,79? they're attempting to ping 192.168.1.3 (which is strange given that should be *behind* NAT) and you're getting ping traffic to 1.3 from 1.3's gateway 1.1 (i'm guessing 1.1 is your router). So there is some fucky traffic happening there for sure. You've got some external thing trying to do a ping to something internal and it's via some bizarre route. is 1.3 running some sort of service that connects somewhere external?

>>
>>60098781
i'm not telling you how to do it. i'm telling you what you should always do
>>
>>60098543
The cable itself would probably work if it was short, although cheap usb cables are notorious for losing a lot of amperage along the way (many don't even get 2.4 across effectively). The real problem is that you probably won't find any USB style power source that would output what you need.

The 6v is pretty much non-negotiable. Sometimes devices can handle a slight variance, but it's a bad idea. 3amp is a minimum. You really need to find a power supply that outputs 6v at 3 amps or more.

>>60098864
you can use netstat on windows It think to list connections to that IP address. Are there any rules on your router that are special for that IP? Typically ICMP isn't allowed past a router into an internal network. see if netstat on 1.3 shows any communication with those 78,79. addresses.
