The FM Radio is the most underappreciated feature of a phone.

Especially when you have no internet, it also uses way less battery.

Glad my new Moto G5 Plus has one built in again, I really missed it.
>>
>>60023535
No. literally all chinkphones OS's are pure shite. you buy them for the unbeatable perf/$ value, not their subpar software.
Zuk is much easier to root and flash roms to, since you don't have to ask Xiaomi for permission to unlock your bootloader and deal with the EDL locks they started putting on their phones.

>camera is just right
>speedy, no stutters (yet)

Minor gripes:
>fingerprint sensor, but it's actually pretty decent if you're a big guy
>no dual cameras, but those are kinda of a meme
>edge screen can sometimes take a couple of attempts to bring up
>samsung software (not lag, but minor regionalized things)

Cons:
>gyroscope for potrait/landscape is a bit oversensitive
>a bit taller than I would like
>No, i don't want bixby, I want to change the volume

Moto z play vs the samsung a7 2017, which of these two has the better camera?

I want to get the Galaxy Note 8 when it comes out, but I also want a sick phone that I can't afford just for shitposting because I have no friends. My last samsung phone was an S3 and it was honestly the best phone I've ever had. I have an LG G3 right now but it's a worthless piece of garbage and I haven't even bothered getting it activated.

If I sign up for Verizon and buy an S8+, how will an upgrade to the Note 8 work when they start making those? Will I have to pay off the $840 on the S8+ and then trade it in for like $200 off of the Note 8?
>>
Anyone ever tried ordering enough stuff from Oneplus to get free shipping for a $100 order then return the excess, unopened stuff to them? I know they have a 15-day warranty for refund and replacement but can you simply say I want to return it because I don't like it/over-ordered?
>>
>>60027676
They'll hit you with a restocking fee, just like everyone else in the world would.
>>
Does Sprint let you replace your phone with a different one if it breaks and you have a warranty? Like if my v20 bootlooped, could I replace it with an s8 even if I was still on my contract?

Is there a prepaid plan out there at all that uses Verizon towers and lets you bring in your own phone? Oh and also doesn't have full retard rates?
>>

>>60026769
It astonishes the fuck out of me how they included a button for bixby. If bixby were like Siri i.e. I could actually talk to it, then that'd be fine. Luckily you can disable it completely from popping up.
>>
How necessary is package pro disabler for the S8? I can't find a way to disable badge notifications
>>
>>60026769
Aside from aesthetically, is there any advantage to these AMOLED screens?

I feel like people keep going on about how they work but they don't seem to really add that much for how much they cost.
>>
>>60028197
if you use Verizon's towers it has to support CDMA, and that limits a lot of options for you.

just for example, the following phone lines don't work on CDMA unless they specifically make one for the carrier:
>Sony Xperia
>OnePlus
>ZTE Axon
>Nokia's upcoming Androids
>LG's non-flagships
>most of HTC's phones
>basically all of Huawei's phones
>Asus Zenphone
>the list goes on
>>
>>60026392
The screen and battery and haptic feedback are all miles better. I'm happy that I upgraded.
>>
>>60029081
but is that worth nearly twice the price? You can get a refurbished or "new" s7 off Aliexpress for like 300 bucks.

Judging by how incredibly baller the S8 battery life has proven to be, even when in QHD+, they're probably a lot more energy efficient.

So, on the topic of the S8, I tried pressing the Bixby button, looked at the Privacy Policy, and was already irked. I don't think I want to actually try that. Do you guys think I'm being paranoid? Or do you agree? I was actually really excited about Bixby initially, but it sounds like in its current state, it's garbage. But I want a use for that damned button! Google Assistant sucks so much goddam dick it's not even funny, so I don't really wanna use that with the button, either, necessarily. Why are all the voice assistants such fucking garbage?

Also, the S8 is I believe a lot better at low light photography than the S7. Check out this surprisingly clear photo taken on the road in the dead of night.
>>
>>60029164
I thought the camera on the S8 was more or less just a repeat of the S7? I heard it looks almost identical.

as far as voice assistants, they're great for simple tasks but usually very limited due to the complexity of human speech and roundabout wording of commands.. I've heard Amazon Alexa is leaps and bounds above anything google or microsoft has put out, but I've never seen or used one.
>>
>>60029022
Let me try and explain my situation.
>bought a used unlocked (Verizon) Galaxy S7 a month ago
>was told it would work 100% with any providers that let me bring my own device
>go with H2O
>this is clearly not true
>have only been able to use 3G
>have tried multiple APN settings and still nothing
>also can't into voicemail for some reason
I really like the phone but at this point I wish I just grabbed the new S6 Active for the same price.
>>
>>60029210

Okay /spg/ I need purchasing advice
>Country and carrier
Okay here is the thing, I live in the US and use sprint as my carrier, but I also do a lot of traveling and normally I have two samsung note 2. One is for domestic use, while the other I use abroad. Now one of them has died due to all the abuse I've put it through. Now I've been thinking about getting a phone with two sim slots so that way instead of bringing two note 2s with me I only need one phone.
>wanted features, budget and size
As far as features go I want a dual sim, dual active, dual 3G/LTE phone. I also prefer larger size phones like the samsung note series, but if I have to go smaller that's fine. As far as the budget goes I'd like for it to be under around $300. I can go up to $400, but I'd prefer for it to be around 300 bucks
I walked into one of the t-mobile stores and they had blu life one x for 250 bucks. I liked it, but only one of the sims can be used for LTE, while the other only gets 2G. I don't mind chinese phones. As long as both sims are active and get at least 3g that's fine.
>>
>>60034121

Any phone with snapdragon 820 and up should be capable of running dual lte. So look there. Some chinks phones are missing some lte bands in europe so keep that in mind.

What's the best ROM to install at the mo?
I don't know too much about android phones, more of a PC guy. Is cyanogen still cool to install, think it's discontinued now or something, I don't keep up to date with smartphones.

Got my phone as a photo viewer, text reader and mild browser.
Mostly just use it for my hue lights these days,

It keeps reverting my settings, the amount of times google play just vanishes from my phone is annoying, like some severe security measure.

Sick of it turning off features I've gave permission for.

Expandable storage helps. Its nice to be able to offload photos, videos, etc onto a separate storage device when your phone fills up.

You have to ask lenovo to unlock your boot loader too... It takes maybe 2 minutes in total(make your account on lenovo, then fill out the bootloader unlock form that asks for your email and phones serial #) It gets emailed to your instantaneously. Theres no human going through and matching you up.

It was actually the easiest part of unlocking my Z2. Hardest was realizing i had to install new windows drivers while it was in fastboot mode(didnt ask, didnt give me an error... just said it was looking for devices.)

no, only vendor can update binary blobs
see:
>Second, many users have likely read about the Quadrooter vulnerability coming out of DEF CON. Here, we have a bit of bad news. Of the four reported CVEs, weve been able to plug the ones that affected OSS code (ie the kernel), specifically CVE-2016-2059 and CVE-2016-5340. However, some of the reported vulnerabilities lie within OEM binary blobs, meaning we dont have source access to resolve them.
>So what does this mean? Unfortunately, for many devices we may never be able to completely resolve the outstanding issues, as OEMs are unlikely to release updated blobs across the generations of devices CM 13.0 supports, many of which were end of lifed on Lollipop or even earlier.

Wouldn't get the P8. Huawei's Android skin was pretty terrible pre-Nougat which the P8 won't be getting.

The Moto G5 Plus has a pretty good camera :

https://www.androidpit.com/camera-comparison-lenovo-moto-g5-plus-vs-samsung-galaxy-s7
>If we had to give a performance grade to the Moto G5 with respect to the Galaxy S7, we’d say that, if the photos of the S7 get a 10, in good light, the G5 Plus would get an 8 but in low light, thiswould fall to a 7. In any case, this is quite respectable for a device that costs less than $250. It could very easily be the best mid-range camera out there.

I got this piece of shit for free from T-Mobile when I signed up for my plan and I hate it. Shit microphone, shit battery, shit camera, 4GB usable internal storage, the thing is slow as hell (input lag? really? I thought they solved that problem decades ago before there were even multicore CPUs), and a lot of other shit that I could go on about for this entire post.

Are phones in general this shitty, or is this thing just exceptionally bad because T-Mobile gives them away for free? Do more expensive phones perform better or do they just have better cameras/sensors/other gimmicky shit to jack up the price? If so, at what price range do they start to become decent? If it's more than $200-300, fuck that. I can get a used Thinkpad for that much that will outperform any phone on the market.

Well first off, your phone has a chipset from 4 years ago, and on top of that it has a poorly optimised Assmung ROM.

So if you get a budget phone with a 625 or a cheaper 820/821 phone, it'll improve exponentially. I upgraded from a phone that's better than yours by quite a bit to an OP3T, and I can guarantee you that better SoC + more RAM + non-shit Assmung TouchWizâ„¢ ROM = flawless performance.

You can fix up most Android phones via installing a custom ROM, even if they have older hardware. Hell even just stock Android, even earlier versions, performs surprisingly well on what is pretty low-spec hardware if you bother to remove all the bloatware.

Of course, if you'd rather not actually fix any problems, yeah, you will never get a phone that works like it should. That's your own fault though.

I can't decide between a iphone SE and a 3T. My 4S is okay-ish, bit no 3G and 6gb storage.

How's android these days ?
I'm rather satisfied os iOS but I kinda find the iphones overpriced, it's difficult to decide myself.
>>
So far im happy with my S8.

the things i can point out,

I do NOT miss my S7 and S7 Edge after switching, the S7 both feel outdated next to the sexy s8.

Like everything about is better except for a few issues,

>fingerprint censor is a joke, so i just use face recognition
>And the phone is slippery. but i dont want to put it in a case just yet.
> i semi regret not going for the s8+. its not that much bigger and you get better battery.

Other than that i find no other downside to the phone. it just looks and feels amazing.

I'm on the verge of buying an xperia z3 compact for $200

Reasonable price? It doesn't have as much RAM and gigabytes as I'd like but that battery life tho, and I'm upgrading from a total piece of shit phone anyways.

My battery usage details menu on my Huawei android 7 device kinda sucks. The diagram is not that clear. I want to know the percentage of battery consumption in any interval of time. Any good app for that /g/?
>>
>>60026505
Official AICP, no bugs, has OTA and good battery life. Varotone's Lineage is great too but screen off battery drain is a bit higher.

>>60032896
Mokee is shit, still has bugged home button, no proper changelog and you have to pay for OTAs which break more things than they fix
>>
>>60039815
Aicp? You mean the official chink ROM?(mine came with international)
I think I would go with the chink one, but I already unlocked the bootloader, and everything I've read said that once it's unlocked, you can no longer get ota updates... And I definitely need root, which requires it be unlocked...
>>
>>60039949
No, AICP is a custom rom which looks like stock android

>bought a pixel XL 128 two weeks ago

huh, maybe iOS fags were right. a phone that just works is better than a bloated phone with tons of useless features
>>
>>60039986
Awesome. Didn't know that existed. I'll probably give that a try. All I want is a stock, secure android ROM, with the front button thing still working.
>>
>>60040037
That's the best reason to get a nexus too. Specs aren't great, battery life is usually substandard... But there's no stupid fucking bloat or bs lockdowns... Which, after dealing with chink phones(who're the worst at that. Specs : cost are among the best tho) has me wishing I had maybe spent the extra $150 and gotten lower performance with the 5x.

If the regular Pixel had stereo speakers or 1440p I would've bought it. I don't like 5.5" phones and the Pixel seems like a ripoff when there are other phones offering better hardware and features for about the same price
>>
>>60040448
this phone is a fucking dream for me

I am coming from a Note 4 and the last thing I wanted my new phone to have was 1,000 useless features. I miss the removable battery but so far the XL has incredible battery life. Other than that, I miss absolutely nothing about my Note 4.
>>
>>60035775
g5 plus or g5 for a cheaper option
>>
>>60040538
>the last thing I wanted my new phone to have was 1,000 useless features
oh I agree, but this thing is a minimum of 650 bucks and doesn't have stereo speakers, 1440p, waterproofing, expandable storage, or even a very good design. That's a really high asking price to me. If it were $550 starting price I'd be all over it.

Stock android and that camera is great, but it's a steep asking price for what a phone from last year can do a little slower but priced well over $100 cheaper.

Hi /gentoo/men

I am on the fence about the Nexus 5 or 5X, I don't know which one to pick.

I feel that the 5 is better, although it is older. I want an unlocked bootloader, good price and a good quality. I don't have a SINGLE USB-C cable around the house, so it seems that the 5 is a better option. Plus, the wireless charging would be quite welcome.

Anyone got experience with both? Care to elaborate on your feelings?

Any help appreciated.

interesting, it just so happens that those two CVEs are the ones my one m8 are vulnerable to

Don't get either. The 5x is shit LG bootloop crap and the 5 is too old at this point.

if you're going to do a nexus do a 6 or 6p, otherwise look elsewhere.
>>
>>60022757

had warp 7, screen smashed from a 2ft slide off my bed unto a wood floor.

have warp elite, screen smashed when some pressure was applied to it when getting into my car and squeezed between the steering wheel and the phone being in my front pocket.

I should just buy another warp elite as aside from the babby thin screen I was content with it, but really hate spending money on something I already had/have.

Currently on Boost, I don't mind switching carriers.

Whats an ok sub $100 smart phone. yea i'm poor, have no interest in a 2yr contract

Requesting purchase advise:
Country: Germany
Carrier: T-mobile
Current Phone: Oneplus 3 (Cracked screen, replacement expensive as fuck)
Budget: <800 eurobucks
Features I want/need:
Headphone Jack
>= 1080p display
Non-shit-tier build quality
>= 64gb rom and/or microsd slot
Dual-sim
Lineage or other pajeet rom support

Things I despise:
Curved edge display meme
Google assistantâ„¢

I was half way preordering the mi 6 when I saw the missing headphone jack. How is it even legal that they advertise a 3.5mm jack on their website when all I get is a gay dongle?
Is there even a phone that suits my preferences?

I still insist on avoiding those phones. I personally wouldn't buy something over a year old as you'll get more mileage out of a more recent phone.

>>
>>60040900
Thought about that, but it's a rather minor upgrade and I'd prefer going full next-gen. Replacing the glass would be cheaper than buying a whole new phone and the 3t doesn't really have enough to offer to justify the price I think. Isn't there an obscure Chinese company I haven't heard of yet?
>>
>>60041019
Yes, the phone is very easy to unlock

>>60040876

>>
>>60041084
I'm assuming you can't buy the version with Amazon ads since you're not a burger. That one can't have the bootloader unlocked. All other models are easily unlocked.
>>
>>60040830
You can get a Verizon prepaid Moto G4 Play for $50 off Amazon, or a BLU R1 HD for $60 with Amazon Prime (the lockscreen ads are easily removed)
>>
>>60041258
Verizon phone can only be used on Verizon, the BLU can only be used on GSM carriers.

I'm pretty sure Boost isn't even BYOD so he's fucked if he doesn't want to buy something directly from them, or change carriers.

Burgers get the unlockable version too, it just costs more than ad-subsidized version. It's not like they're forced to buy the version with ads.

>>60041382

There's no reason to get a bigger gapps package, all it means is that you have to download more apps from the store. Ultimately you have more choices because you have fewer non-removable apps.

I am looking for a youtube channel I saw on /g/ a few months ago in /spg/

It was just this autist with a monotone voice taking apart new phones/tablets and then trying to put them back together afterwards but usually he would just take them completely apart while talking about the components.

Okay boys, need help. Canadian here.
I'm on Rogers. Don't do much special with my phone. Take pictures, watch videos, listen to music, browse the internet, social media, email, etc.

I can get a G6 for $180, an S8 for $250, an S8+ for $320 or a Google Pixel XL 128GB for $480.

These are just the regular prices, and I intend on waiting for a sale on whichever one I choose, but they'll still be discounted the same, so the differences in the base prices are really the most important.

What do you guys think I should do? I'm weary of bootloops on the G6, weary of hardware failure, TouchWiz and Bixby autism on the S8/S8+, and I'm not sure the Pixel is the best value compared to the others.

The Pixel's hardware and software don't worry me in the slightest, it's just that it's pretty expensive compared to the others. If I wait for a sale I'll be able to afford it for sure, but then the sale prices for the others will be even cheaper...

What do you /g/uys think I should do?
>>
>>60031431
lmao ok kid
>>
>>60041258
It looks like they're both the same price, dunno if its a current glitch, both colors prime or not is $150.

I ended up having bestbuy price match an LG X Power
5.3" 720p
Cortex A7 Quadcore
Adreno 304
4100mAh Battery
1.5gb ram

Unfortunatly the intl ver comes with better everything, but thats been the norm for a while.

Battery life is pretty great
performance is pretty bad but that was expected its a $70 phone

Overall its a meh phone, maybe next time I can spend a few hundred burgerdollars on one but I wasnt even expecting on buying a phone then my zte warps screen cracked badly and I cant stand using a phone with a broken screen
