Please put some effort into your requests and questions.

If you dislike a suggestion, explain why and try giving a better suggestion to whomever asked, unless the recommendation being given is HD800's as they are the best headphones ever and can be subject to no criticism.

What's your headphones btw?

I own both the shitstackuber and the fulla2, and I'm among these that can actually tell a difference with HD600.

FWIW, even if it wasn't the case, the extra gain the magni2 has is very appreciated on HD600.

PS. Bluetooth will degrade the audio quality and isn't generally encouraged around here.
>>

For below $50 assuming you're using them in public, Superlux HD 662 EVO's are pretty neat for their price. If you're using them at home 668B/SHP9500/HI2050 for open and Superlux HD 662(EVO)/669 for closed cans.

>>59945041
Yeah, exactly what my problem is. It's why I was never big on over ears and always got buds. I'm happy with these though. These are my first """expensive""" headphones.
>>
>>59944962
These were over $200 a few years ago, and highly reviewed at the time - currently clearance blow-out priced at $20, holy shit. I have a pair, as well as the redesigned "MKII" version... this original version is a little more bass heavy, but both versions of these will absolutely DESTROY anything in this price range.

Get them while you can, /hpg/.

>>
Need good replacement pads for my ath-m50x's.
I bought some shitty foam ones from amazon, wrecked the sound stage. Lows are way less pronounced.
Any advice?
>>
>>59945050
K240 has very rolled off bass and grainy treble. Comfort can be iffy with the stock stiff pleathers.

668B is bright with a fat midbass hump, they're not very comfortable with stock pads.

SHP9500 has neutral bass and is somewhat bright with grainy treble though very comfy for watermelon heads.

HI2050's are Takstar's knockoff of DT880's. Neutral bass with slightly recessed mids and boosted treble. Pretty comfy on smaller heads.

Superlux HD 662 EVO's are bassy with treble getting dark past 13Khz. /effay/ aesthetic with detachable cable and 2 pairs of pads in the box (Pleather/Velour)

I have Samson SR950's (Superlux 669 Clones). They're essentially closed 668B's. They can get muddy and bloated at times and can help be tamed with EQ. Pretty good soundstage for closed headphones.
>>
>>59945243
>koss pads give me the impression that in a near future they'll degrade

I don't know anything about the pads you posted... they might be great, I dunno. But I did buy the Koss 6-pack replacements a few years ago. I still have 2 pairs new in the package. They seem to last as well as any other foam pad, which for me is about 3 years if using them a few times a week.

but seriously, instead of paying $14 for cushions, spend $20 for these >>59945103
>>
>>59945306
Dude, I appreciate the breakdown but I dont really understand what you said.

I mostly listen to metal and I love to hear the double bass of drums. I also exclusively intend on using these headphones with my phone. That being said, what's good that's on amazon and under like $60
>>
>>59945306
>Neutral bass with slightly recessed mids and boosted treble

Tried these and sent them back.
The mids seemed very recessed to me, probably due to how bright how they were. Distorted guitars didn't have much clarity or crunch and vocals lacked presence.

They were very comfortable, about the only saving grace though.
>>
>>59945349
Unless you're treble sensitive, you'll probably like the 668B's with HM5 Hybrid pads.

Maybe if he wants open, gonna guess he doesn't.

Just get something super cheap like the Tascam TH-02 if you can deal with a long cable, or Monoprice 8323 if you can't.
>>
>>59945328
Thanks, but shipping to my 3rd world country would make that not an ideal buy, and yeah, seems like a silly amount to pay for pads considering how cheap portapros are. I'll stick with the stock pads, and once they show signs of dying, I'll decide on what to replace them with. Cheap eBay pads might be tried in the meantime.
Cheers m8.

Sennheiser HD 558's with the inner foam piece removed. No amp.

I know getting 558's without an amp wasn't good, I have to turn the volume very high to get any good bass. I do like really bassy music though. Essentially, what I want is to really improve on the bass without sacrificing the trebles or mids, because I listen to a wide range of music.

Also, does using an external amp/DAC cause latency >= 1ms?

I use the hd600 too. My fulla 2 honestly sounds great but if the highsa re better on the magni then I simply want that. I've already spend loads at this point anyway, an extra 100 won't matter. I don't have to go past 12 on the dial most of the time but now I'm conscious of the fact that I might not be getting the best quality when I do. And it's doing my fucking head in. at least with a magni I know I'm getting the 'best' out of it and on the plus side I'll still technically have a portable dac+amp in the fulla 2 so my setup would technically be better than a schiit stack when it comes to features. It won't look quite as nice but still decent.

So is it just stupid to get a non multibit bifrost? Wanna pair it with a magni 2u.
>>
>>59949292
yes it's stupid, just buy a modi uber
>>
>>59949292
From what I've heard, multibit dacs don't make an audible difference.
>>
>>59945993
I know getting 558's without an amp wasn't good, I have to turn the volume very high to get any good bass. I do like really bassy music though. Essentially, what I want is to really improve on the bass without sacrificing the trebles or mids, because I listen to a wide range of music.
HD600 is a major improvement over 558/598, including bass, which gets both stronger and less bloated.

A decent amp/dac to get started is the fulla2.
>Also, does using an external amp/DAC cause latency >= 1ms?
Most latencies for DACs are sadly unknown as nobody's been arsed to measure them.

Using spdif (like modi2uber's spdif input, which I use) might improve situation, but how much is unknown. Neither usb nor spdif do feel bad on gaming so it probably isn't terrible, but even if I do not perceive it, there probably is some latency.
>>
>>59949292
Either get a multibit modi or ditch the multibit altogether and get a modi uber.

People seem to like multibit for whatever reason, but it's not been properly double-blind tested, and measurements suggest a difference shouldn't be hearable.
>>
Anyone got the T50RP's. I'm looking for replacement pads
>>
>>59949453
hm5 pads are good on them but the sound is slightly worse than the stock pads due to the drivers being further away from your ears. I bought a few pairs of cheap chink pads from aliexpress in the past and one of them was just thick enough to be comfortable but still quite thin, it worked great before I sold the headphones. Buy a few and see if you get lucky. They're cheap as fuck so worth the gamble.
>>
>>59949292
It's stupid to pay for multibit anything for the sake of it being multibit. It performs worse and costs more.
>>
>>59950251
>costs more
Sure.
>Performs worse
According to which measurements? I did a little research back in the day, and it should be good, theoretically way past anything known to be hearable.

It *probably* sounds the same, too. But nobody's tested that properly. Lots of forums with people who say it sounds oh so good, but no serious testing.
>>
>>59950294
According to the specifications Schiit(which I believe is the company in question) themselves provide of the multibit and delta-sigma versions.

>hearable
I would bet money on all of the products offered by Schiit in "standard" or multibit configurations to be safely transparent. Both designs can be used to achieve extremely high level of performance if properly designed. It's just that the other is harder to manufacture and thus more expensive while not providing any sort of benefit in return, not even on paper.

All the listening impressions I've seen can be discarded immediately. Like the usual, nobody actually seems to be interested to know if there is a difference but everyone wants to hear one so standard sighted listening it is.

Hey guys, it's that anon who had the issue with the Fulla 2 on Windows 7 a few weeks ago. Hadn't been using my PC because was busy but I'm still having the issue. I've decided to try and record it to see if anybody here could make something out of what they see:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/m39xvd27w24h2xx/Fulla%20Schiit.mp4?dl=0

Notice how the audio device and music are all freezing and then the audio that accompanies the mouse click doesn't work when it's frozen too.
>>

Hi anon, have you tried the debugging steps outlined here?

The cable and/or the power management might help.
>>
>>59951076
I have. The first two don't apply to me because I have the driver on in my sound device and everything and I do hear audio but it freezes at a random point.

The solutions in the third one are what I've tried to no avail. And the weird part is that on my dual-booted Windows 10, the device works flawlessly.

>>
>>59952062
A fulla 2 (usb dac+amp) should suffice unless you want the volume pretty high. Some anon has as bunch of such devices, has done some tests and decided that it sounds better with HD600 than the e10k and the O2. YMMV, particularly with HD650. They should be about the same sensitivity and impedance wise anyway.

The next step is the magni 2 (amp only), which is what I use on my HD600, with modi2 as DAC, because my onboard audio sucks.

Advice is to just grab the fulla2. If you feel the gain is not enough (that you want even higher volume!), get the magni 2 later, but chances are you don't need it.
>>
>>59952840
The HD599 is a real improvement, getting it much closer to the FR of HD600.

But not if it's like 40% more.

wouldn't it be better to buy 598 and a dac
>>
>>59953818
Never. At this kind of question, get the more expensive headphone, always.

You might not need a DAC, your computer's might be just fine.

You might not need an amp if your motherboard has a headphone amp (many do these days). Without an amp, it won't sound like total shit either, just not at 100%.
>>
>>59953818
>>59953858
Once you have your headphones, you can test them on your smartphone vs your PC.

Smartphones do tend to bundle a headphone amp.

If your PC is significantly worse (and only if so), then you can get something like the Fulla 2 (very good usb dac+amp with lots of connectivity options).
>>

Do you have any suggestions in that budget that you think blows them away? Do you think most "reviewers" are wrong in their assessment of those cans?
>>
>>59956638
Name a few better alternatives. I can think of one on the top of my head but I won't say it.

I've bought headphones from this site already, it's good. I've owned over 100 headphones.

>Do you have any suggestions in that budget that you think blows them away?
AKG k612

>Do you think most "reviewers" are wrong in their assessment of those cans?
I think most reviewers think way too much of those headphones. I'm pretty confident majority of them have never owned better headphones and have never had a chance to compare them to anything else that's half decent. HD598 are very decent option at price point, but it's not second coming of jesus like some people like to believe.

>inb4 b-but you need amp for k612
It will sound better without amp too. And you can actually save up for dac/amp later and have headphones that will be able to utilize that. Or not, then you will have nice knob.
>>
>>59956847
>AKG k612

Sensitivity is too low for the average pleb that wants a simple plug in and use headphone.

I get it, you want to be contrarian.

people here prefer amps/dacs because they were specifically designed for headphones and are not an afterthought

not that an interface is bad, if you've got one no need to get a headphone dac/amp

>>
Anybody else feel like the difference in sound between desktop tower's onboard sound card with 48000 Hz and an amp with 96000 Hz isn't really worth the money? I think a good pair of cans is all you need.
>>
Do I need an amp to drive the X2?
>>
Tangentially related, whats a decent soundbar for 250 or less? A sub isnt fully required but would be very nice, if i can get a good bar and a sub for 300$ ill do it. Recs? Im a little unsure on alot of these ~150$ Samsung/Vizio/Sony type things. Im not chasing best sound just a good step up from built in TV speakers. on my new LG 4k
>>
>>59957274
For computer sound, good speakers/headset is more important then "muh sound card".
>>
>>59956643
I use a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6, but i got it mostly because of the 24-bit/96kHz resolution, comes in handy when working with stuff above 16bit/44kHz, the extras ins/outs are also welcome.
If you are only going to listen to headphones though i don't see why you shouldn't go with a specialized Amp for it.
>>59957274
For pleasure listening? Yeah, good headphones and speakers are more important.
>>
>>59956648
Bax-shop sells it for 277€.

No, they're very efficient and can be run off a phone or console controller.

It's literally perfect for laptops, or if you have to plug/unplug devices regularly.

FR disagrees.

HD599 is much closer to HD600.
>>
>>59957588
Probably not. If there is, you're probably getting 90/95% of the sound quality of X2's this is just my speculation.

e10k
- a bit cheaper
- "bass boost" switch
fulla 2
- way higher specs
- huge volume knob
- has line in (can act as standalone amp for another source)
- has two extra outputs (with and without volume), for chaining a big amp, speakers or whatever.
- made in the us
- anon who has both says it sounds considerably better with HD600.

Pretty much.

I would like to get a standalone microphone and headset so I could make videos, but grest headphones would be great either way.

thoughts on v moda crossfade m100?
>>
>>59958190
I'm looking for a midrange headphone that can be used for gaming and mobile listening.

I feel like the v-moda is crossfade m100 is a good compromise because it allows functionality with the microphone without looking ridiculous when carried in public.
>>
>>59957895
If you don't live in US don't bother. Schiit only cares about sales in US and it's only a good deal there. If you live in EU you will pay customs and taxes on top of paying quite a bit for shipping itself. At this point it's better to get different dac/amp.
>>
>>59958222
Cheapest option for that use I could think of are Somic MM185/Status CB-1's with a BoomPro. I'd personally would go Custom One Pros with a Vmoda BoomPro when gaming at home and the stock cable for when outside and it'd still be cheaper than M100's.
>>
>>59958222
>>59958190
>gaming and mobile listening
Sorry but that's fucking dumb. I will never understand the idea of mixing home phones with outside phones. Not only you get inferior product, you also end up damaging your headphones much faster.
Just get some chinky iems like kz-ate or pistons 3 and use that for commute while keeping your main headphones safe at home. Also this way you won't look like turboautist.
>>
It's getting pretty stupid with these amplifier questions and advice.

1. Every device that makes headphones play a sound acts as an amplifier and therefore is an amplifier.
2. Getting a discrete amplifier doesn't inherently entail any quality different for better or worse.
3. Purpose of an amplifier is to increase volume without doing anything else.
4. You can't answer a simple Y/N to people asking whether there's a quality difference or whether they need an amp in the first place if you don't know exactly what they want. This is because...
a) Headphone loads differ
b) Output qualities differ
c) Requirements for loudness differ

You can make an educated guess as embedded audio circuitry tends to operate within a certain output level range(0.5-2 Vrms) and explain it in simple terms e.g. "these headphones are quite insensitive so they might need an amplifier to play loud enough for you" or the reverse if the headphones are easy to drive.

Is the JBL Everest V300 good?

I wanted a Bluetooth headset, and this one is 50% cheaper here.
>>
>>59956643
I use that very interface at the moment as my O2 crapped itself somehow.

>why not use an usb audio interface, if most of you just only use your computer to listen anyway?
Usually not a choice for audiophiles. The headphone output quality can be poor or lack power. I have my HD 800s plugged into that. With EQ I need to turn the volume knob all the way to have good listening volume. It does its job but isn't ideal. I have some other gripes about that specific interface, too.

>>59957183
Nothing to do with age. Interface has its uses and it's a handy multi purpose device in some applications. I kind of wish there were more high quality desktop ones on the market.
>>
>>59958362

Wehrmacht Kopfhörer?
An issue would be the lower sensitivity compared to anything made in the last 25-30 years.
Besides that, nothing else electrically should stop you from being able to use them.
>>
>>59939323
Dumb frogposter.
>>59940040
It's surprising you haven't done anything about the piercing treble. The bass adjustments are decent but the lower mids shouldn't need boosts.
You need to set the preamp to -11 dB. I think the peak value meter is based around a midrange tone and ignores bass and treble boosts entirely.
>>59949086
The 8 kHz dip is strange and makes no sense if based entirely on measurements. You need to work out the treble for yourself. If you got an average pair of ears and an average pair of HD 650s, you're gonna need something like a 5 dB boost between 6 and 9 kHz.
>>59955326
>>59955380
Both of you should lower the preamp. The Q factors are not visible so I only have a vague sense of how it's going to alter the FR. >>59955380 seems to have the right idea, but it's unlikely you will achieve a great result with a graphic equalizer.
>>59955751
Looks really good. Consider adding 1-2 dB more gain from 20 to 40 Hz, cutting another 2 dB from 200 Hz to 1 kHz and boosting the 1.2-2 kHz area just a tad more.
>>59956379
Your intentions are good, but both the gain values and Q factors could both use some major adjustments. The boost to the sub-bass is overkill, the cut to the lower mids is nowhere large enough (both in gain and Q), and a cut half the size of the current one should be enough to deal with the 2-3 kHz peak. And you should stick to peak filters only.
>>59956694
I've been meaning to clean the pot for my amp, but I can't seem to find a screwdriver small enough for the screws in the chassis. Keep us updated.
>>
>>59960729
668B EQ boy here, the picture's oldish. The low mids are back to zero and the pre-amp is at -8 dB at the moment.

Closed, loud and nice bass. I mostly listen to awful quality hardcore punk, watch movies and play games.

Audio pleb here, what does that mean? I was thinking of picking them up because I like the aesthetic, but I am one of the people that would just plug it in and forget about it.
