I'm thinking about it. Build quality seems great, stock Android is nice, but I'm afraid the low end soc just means the body will outlast the internals.

But if you don't game it'll probably be good for several years. As if any of us has that kind of self control.

As long as Nokia doesn't fuck up the software, it'll be good for a daily driver
The 430 scores the same as the 617, and gets battery life and has QC 3.0

I like how it's built, but I'm not too sure...

The Ericsson GH337 was totally amazing. It was the best pure phone ever and the build quality was so solid that hammering nails with it was absolutely no problem.

This doesn't mean I'd buy a Ericsson smartphone (if I remember correctly their phone division was bought by Sony?) today. Not sure I want a Nokia phone either, specially since it appears that they will be using a very weak SOC.

Though I can say that their return has peaked my interest.
>>
>>59746283
>Very weak
The 430 is an octocore, not a dual or a quad
>>
>>59746071
>>59746133
A few threads ago some manchild was slamming the sd430, but it really is not a bad SOC. It should be able to do a lot more with that 3000 mAh battery than the S8 could. If Nokia (sorry, HMD) can prove to us that they will commit to software updates, then they have a killer combination on their hands. And if that is the case, watch for them rising like a Phoenix over the smoking ruin that shall be Samsung.
>>
I've owned one Mediatek phone. It was a piece of shit that had all sorts of weird bugs like podcasts not resuming from the right place, and then the screen developed a dead zone so I returned it.

Are Mediatek socs still complete shit? Or are they at least usable? Did I just get a bad one? It was a BLU Life One X with an MT6753.

I know there are cheap enough phones with Snapdragons but they're practically giving them away.

Locally is costs $222 for the basic 2GB/16GB model costs and the 3/32 model costs $331.

If you can get the 3/32 GB model for $200 or less then it's probably an acceptable phone for the price but not really a great phone for the price since it's only got a Snapdragon 430 SOC.

>>59746326
Yes, the Snapdragon 430 is obviously an octacore. It's 2017, not 2014. It's still Qualcomms current low-end SOC.

>>59746278
If it's worth it really depends on prices. It's absolutely not worth paying $110 extra for 3GB/32GB when you can get a whole phone with 3GB/32GB for what they charge just to upgrade from the 2/16 basic model.

I quite frankly don't get why they even bothered to make a 2/16 GB version. Again, it's not 2014.
>>
>>59746367
All that should matter is that the software is good, it could get 20 updates but if the software isn't written right it'll perform like shit, which I doubt it will but BLU some how fucked that up with the BLOX2

>>59746398
BLU software is shit, it wasn't much better in the Life One Z2

>>59746407
You're wrong, QComm's current lowest end is the 210 dual core, the 425 is a quad core, and the 430 replaces the 615/617, it's a budget SoC, but it's not the lowest
It's worth it for the 625 and the better camera, 229.99 for a f1.7 aperture? Yes it's worth it
>>
>>59746398
My mom has a phone with a MediaTek MT6580 and while it won't be setting any records, it's perfectly acceptable. She's had it for six months and no issues so far, but then again she only uses it for very, very basic tasks.

I initially wanted something small but now even considering 5+ inches. Would love a nice display as I dabble in photography and transfer photos I take with my reg cameras to my phone. 4k filming would be a nice bonus but not essential. That's why I'm attracted to the Sony Z3, Z3c or even M5.

Should I care about camera "features" like dual pixel autofocus and software gimmicks if I'm just going to shoot .RAW anyway?
I have an Xperia Z2 and I'm really tired of not being able to properly process my photos because Sony jews refuse to add raw support, so my next phone will be one that save .RAW files.
Should I care about anything other than sensor size and OIS if I won't use the auto mode? I've been looking at the S8 but it only has a 1/2.5" sensor while other phones have 1/2.3" ones.

Anyone got experience with the UMI Plus?
Right now I have a Flex 2 (the 16gb/2gb ram version) but the battery is starting to suffer so I thought about replacing it while it will still sell for more than chump change.

Going over some lists, the Honor X6, Moto G4 Plus and UMI Plus all sound like something decent that's in the range of what I want to spend.

Internal storage is not that important to me, I clean it up pretty often and just throw everything I want to keep but don't need constant access to onto my PC. Also you can just swap microSDs anyway.
Fingerprint scanner and wireless charging are nice meme features, but not crucial.

Hardware wise it looks like G4 Plus < X6 < UMI Plus with the UMI blowing the fuck out of the others in terms of specs.
But apparently its GPS is pretty fucking terrible and it has some software problems.

Also if there's any other phone in that price range I missed (which is preferably available in Europe) I'd be grateful for a hint.

A specific reason to avoid the Helio? Does it suck too much battery life?
>>
>>59750246
just make sure that version of the phone has either
a) a global MIUI ROM

b) stock Android ROMs

For certain devices (Like the RN3 Pro) they made a global version, which has a couple more bands, which work better world wide.
I've got the "china" version of the RN3P and it works ok here, you just have to check what bands your carrier supports

You're pretty much saying "it's possible for a camera with a 1/3" sensor to produce better images than a camera with a 1/2.3" sensor" which is true, but it's not an argument for not getting the bigger one if they're in the same category (current gen smartphone from non chinkphone manufacturer)

The KeyOne has Nougat, and the Priv took six months to go from Lollipop to Marshmallow. I imagine we will see Nougat at some point, probably after May, but after that it's likely going to be security updates only.

One thing I have to say is that Blackberry's commitment to monthly updates has been nothing short of excellent, especially for a dying company. I'm on the March 2017 patch whereas my girlfriend with her S6 is only on November 2016.

Does the Xperia M2 Aqua count? It cost me $250 new and unlocked. Overall it is pretty good, the Snapdragon 400 is still able to keep up with everyday tasks although it is not very good with 10 bit Chinese cartoons. Battery life is and always has been good. The camera was never really great for anything more than quick snapshots and it is usually really overexposed, but that's fine because I prefer my older G11 with the CCD image sensor for casual photography. The screen resolution is also pretty bad (960x540), pixel density is only 230 ppi on a 4.8" screen. I think modern budget phones have alleviated some of these issues but this was pretty common for stuff that was on the market in late 2014.

My favourite feature is the one that is not usually available on budget phones, which is waterproofing. Came in really handy not so long ago:

>Friends make fun of my old shit phone, they all have flagships
>Summer 2016
>Drought in Southwestern Ontario for most of the summer
>Suddenly comes to an end one day with a torrential downpour, we're out in the middle of nowhere and we're all soaked
>Of the five of us who were out, three have issues immediately develop with their iPhone 6, LG G4 and brand new LG G5, all have water damage
>Another friend has a Blackberry Z30 which was in a waterproof case
>Xperia is totally okay

I have (had) a iphone 5c but the screen just died and I figured I'll just get a new phone
I am on Verizon, I make phone calls and check websites and email with it so I don't need a superphone
looking to spend less than 250 USD.
I would like a phone that I could easily root/flash and generally fuck around with which is something I miss
is there anything good that I could just pick up before the end of today?
>>

unfortunately it's not on this list: http://www.spectrumgateway.com/compatible-phones

Y?
>>59754235

It's a good phone, I'm assuming the battery will last 2 years min since my s4 is still strong. At that point I can fix it if I need to.. and then I'll have a non water proof phone like every other phone on the narket?

asking this one last time before buying something:

looking for a smartphone for under $200 with the best camera possible. it'll probably be the Moto G5, but I'm open for other suggestions.

Huh? It uses the same signal as postpaid

G5+ Prime edition or ZTE Blade V8 Pro, I'm posting from one right now and I like it so far
Last charged the phone yesterday and went to bed with 80% woke up with 78% and have been shitposting all day and it's at 60% now

Samshills claim that touchwiz (now called something like Samsung Experience UX) is now good (like they do every year). However, I was just watching a preview video of the S8 and the presenter was complaining how their S7 has suffered from slow down and lag after a few months, even after a factory reset.

Samsung makes nice hardware, but really shitty software.

Verizon might have better service, but it comes at a cost. You can't just grab any GSM phone and stick in a SIM card, you need one with CDMA support and then you're at the mercy of Verizon to activate it since it isn't merely a simple matter of inserting a SIM card.

I pay less every month for more than you peasants could ever get your shit-covered hands on, why the fuck wouldn't I jump at the chance to have the carrier subsidize my phone when I'll be paying them for service anyways?
>>
When are the Nokia 3/5/6 supposed to hit the US? Still haven't seen anything about whether its going to have CDMA bands and its the only thing stopping me from copping a Moto G5+ which is annoying bc I just want off the Apple reservation already.
>>
>>59754501
As a Canadian it astounds me that some Americans are still on CDMA. Even in our incredibly backward cell environment, the two CDMA carriers (Bell and Telus) both switched to GSM ages ago. We don't have this "will it work on Verizon" problem.

IT'S JUST NOT FAIR
>>
>>59755025
The key thing isn't the CDMA, but rather Verizon's very restrictive whitelist. For example the Axon 7 has all the required hardware and software for VZW but it's not whitelisted so you have to try SIM swapping which may stop working at any time.
>>
>>59755107
It's got to be some stupid ancient contract between Verizon, Sprint, and Qualcomm
Proprietary bullshit is probably why Sprint sucks donkey dick because they can't afford it

There's a browser with built in webm support called Merlin. It doesn't have adblocking though, so it's still somewhat inconvenient. You can also open webms in VLC.

similar to your Note 4, my Galaxy S2 lasted 3.5 years. I used it with an extended 4800mah chink battery.

Samsung will never make good phones again ;_;

I'm 1.5 years into my Moto X Play. The aim is for it to last 4 years at least.

Reposting this from another thread.

Just got a pixel and with little force the charging port will disconnect (just a millimeter but enough to stop charging) and I have to push it back in

Is this the way usb c works or I need to return it?
>>

I don't like the interface for 3T, I'm very picky in terms of design and dislike the Axon 7 and Moto.

As for Honor 8 I don't really like the fact that the camera is only 12 mp but idk if it's better stabilized for video than the Oppo
>>
>>59754718

Your carrier subsidizes nothing, you pay that shit in full with interest, you just don't know it because americans are financially illiterate.
>>
>>59756361
Number of megapixels doesn't say anything about photo quality. Pixel, S7 and S8, iPhone 7/7+ all have 12MP too

Is there any way to make your browser ask what app to open when you click a stream link or video link (mp4, avi, wmv, etc)? Right now, these links open in the shitty embedded stock video player, whereas I want to get a little window asking what app to open the video with.

I haven't had to do this shit since the days of XP and it should not be tolerated with modern devices. My Windows 7 installation on my T500 is still the same fresh install I did in December 2009, just cloned from a hard drive to an SSD. The notion that you need to keep factory resetting phones every 8 months to a year is ridiculous and should not be accepted.
