Stop asking stupid questions or calling everything you don't like a 'meme". That itself is a terrible meme.

Aside from the look, can anyone tell me why I should get a aluminum case? Wouldn't you want your stuffs to be lighter weight just in general?

700? I find this outrageous to say the least, but I must ask: What do this keybaords do that make it so special so people are eager to spend that amount of money?

Why does this board hate anything with RGB,especially on keyboards? Also you must have an expensive keycaps and keyboard like a chicken(ducky) one with $100 keycaps or your a degenerate normie...

Yes it is.

They originally cost about $450 in a group buy and any desirable Korean custom gets about an instant $200 markup on the second hand market, plus people generally charge for the assembly they did and the switches they used.

Most keycaps will be in the $30-40 range. It really depends on what you want.

So instead of getting a Strafe RGB, I should get a basic mechanical keyboard, what is the best type a 60% or a full keyboard, I'll probably only be gaming on it.

I also like the EnjoyPBT but those are crazy expensive, I wouldn't waste that much on them. $30-40 is fine, I am okay with paying that amount.

Looking for advice on buying a keyboard for work. I use Cherry MX Blue switches at home, but I think they'd be too loud for an open office environment. I used a friend's Cherry MX Brown keyboard once and liked it. It seemed a lot quieter than the tactile blues from memory. I've tried linear switches (red and black) and I don't like them for typing. I was looking at the tada68, but I saw someone complain about it wobbling and it doesn't have any kickstands on the back, so that is a concern. I like that it is programmable though. Also, I really like the feel of PBT keys, but I guess I could always buy some separately or switch them from my current board.

>Budget
Less than $250

>Location (continent at least)
Australia, but open to buying from overseas

>Preferred switch type
Brown I'm guessing. Open to suggestions

>Layout
Whatever the standard is with the US type enter key

>Form factor
I don't use the numpad, so maybe TKL or smaller. Not a requirement.

>Backlight
If it comes with backlighting, I want to be able to turn it off. I don't use it, plus it would look tacky in an office environment.

>Previous/current keyboards
Filco Majestouch TKL (Cherry MX Blue)
??? Cherry MX Brown

Maybe the tada68 is the way to go. I'm just concerned about the wobbling and the noise. Does the aluminium case dampen the noise at all?

I modified my tada68 to reduce noise by wearing headphones

I have a KBParadise V80 with Matias Quiet Clicks.
My roommate has a V60 with Matias Clicks.

The QC are great switches with a good tactile bump, but it's "soft" like a rubber dome keyboard. They're also very quiet.

The clicks on the other hand have a very sharp clicky tactile response, and are much much louder. You're going to want to put a mat down beneath your keyboard at a minimum probably. More clicky than a brand new Cherry Blue.

After using both, I honestly prefer the clicks. It's all subjective though. I put my V80 in an aluminum case and it's about as quiet as a keyboard comes now.

The only issue I've had is with some key chatter on one or two switches, meaning either Matias or KBParadise has questionable quality control. Probably both.
>>
>>59724398
From this and other things I've been reading, I get the feeling that I am going to want the clicks. It sucks that they don't have their ergo keyboard in clicks instead of just quiet clicks because I'm overdue for trying the ergo meme for myself. I guess I can try to get my hands dirty and just build an ergodox or something and go full meme.

>>
>>59724897
if you like traditional rubber domes the go for it I guess. Not many keyboard in that layout, but maybe if you like it enough you'll buy a HHKB with topres
>>
Well, I finally bought my first meme board: A 68-Magicforce with Brown Gaterons. It's not bad, though I don't really get the craze over smaller keyboards - I actually felt myself reaching for the numpad and the home/end buttons several times.

The thing that really bugs me though, is my CM Storm. Now, I don't expect Cooler Master to be the head of the pack on anything (I only bought it because it's all MX Green and I didn't know anything about mechanical keyboards other than that I type hard as fuck), but the Magicforce repeats keys so much faster than this thing does.

This is a manageable board otherwise, but now I feel inadequate. Damnit /mkg/, I don't need another expensive hobby.
>>
>>59725051
>the Magicforce repeats keys so much faster than this thing does
do you mean how fast the keys repeat when you hold them or like double tapping? because the first one is literally a Windows setting
>>
>>59724795
>$70 numpad
>>
>>59725098
To be fair it can be used as a calculator without being plugged in, and also has RGB.
>>
>>59725074
I thought so too, but I had them both plugged in at the same time.

The Magicforce repeats faster than the CM Storm - I held "F" and backspace on both and the Magicforce deleted the Storm's entries faster than it could type them, and the Storm couldn't delete the F's fast enough.

It's highly unscientific, but I can't explain the discrepancy any other way. They're both in USB 3.0 ports.
>>
>>59725139
That's pretty odd. Just tried this on three keyboards, one of which from Cooler Master (though not the same one), and they're all the same. Holding a key on one and backspace on the other cancel each other out, as they're going on the same speed. Probably not relevant, but one of them doesn't even have NKRO, and if I recall correctly the Magicforce doesn't either, so it's a bit odd that a "lesser" keyboard would be faster. There's probably something else screwing things up, because I don't think that should be a difference between the boards.

I have a keyboard with 2-3 switches that constantly repeat presses. I can press the M key once, and maybe it registers a single M, maybe 12.

What's the solution here?
>>
>>59725291
It sounds broken? If you're using Windows, it should repeat ad infinitum until you stop pressing the key.

At least I think.
>>
>>59725264
Now that you mentioned it, mine has the same thing that works over USB, but I never set it higher than 1x, which equals the repeat rate of my other boards. Still kinda weird that it's so slow.
>>
>>59725317
I don't really notice it, since I'm typing on MX Greens. I'm not exactly lighting up a storm (har), and that's not why I bought it.

It's still a bit weird though. Oh well, live and learn.

>>59729536
Well the new ones are just rebranded costar keyboards. The old rosewill 9000s even used the same controller since they too were costar keyboards. Since all these keyboards are the same look for the cheapest costar keyboard in your country
>>
>>59729536
>Filco
Decent to type on. They use costar stabilizers so aren't very good for gaming.

The factory keycaps are pretty shit but you should probably wear through them before replacing. Just expect to.

What he said >>59729576 and also consider Ducky in the layout of your choosing. Filco hasn't kept up with the times. They are quality keyboards, but so are many other offerings which have now surpassed Filco in features.

tl;dr Nothing wrong with Filco.

Thanks for the information, going with Filco since i managed to find a good one for a decent price in the autismo layout i was looking for
>>

what keyboard? this is the perfect layout
>>
>>59730413
Pretty much any Korean custom TKL
>>
Am I the only person who never uses the right shift button? I don't think I've ever used it and I've been typing for 20+ years.
>>
>>59730413
If you want something readily available, winkeyless' b.87 and b.87 EX have the option for that bottom row.
>>
>>59730506
Almost no-one uses it significantly. That's why pretty much any keyboard design that tries to make things more compact shrink it to 1.75u.
>>
>>59730506
I use it a lot, but only because it's my End key when I press FN
>>
So how would i use the function keys on a 61?

I use them a lot for my job.
>>
>>59730600
You can't, they don't exist, better buy a regular TKL.
>>
>>59730600
Pretty much every 60% has F1 through F12 bound to Fn+1 through =.
>>
>>59730600
If you're using this for work, don't buy a meme keyboard. There's a reason why the Model M became the standard.

Unpopular opinion coming through, meme size keyboards are alright if you're neet doing nothing useful, if you need to get shit done get a proper sized one

Are the legends on your PBT Taihao keycaps white or some wierd shade of pink/purple?

The taihao keycaps I see on taobao have a wierd pink/purple tint on their legends.

>>
>>59723360
Build an ergodox, get the monies for it from your employer, adjust desk height and chair to you, use a tray, adjust monitor height, maybe try alternative layouts like maltron, colemak or if you're a mouse user dvorak (lots of left hand usage)
>>
>>59715402
Magicforce
>>59713569
For standard cases this is dirt easy. Just get the pcb and plate and work from those measurements.
Use alu. working with stainless steel is hell.
You could also use wood. but that needs thicker walls. 4+mm
>>59709787
>not split keyboard
>>59700022
I do, i like them a lot. Mainly i want my caps to be uniform, blank and pbt, the rest doesn't matter so much. But only dsa can offer that.
>>
Can someone explain to me how to order off of taobao? I want a tada68 with gateron browns.
>>
>>59729437
is this the GB that just ended?
>>
>>59733508
You can use an agent to make it easier. I've made that exact order using Basetao and had no issues. Only slightly annoying part is that you have to "charge" money into your account to buy it, but after that it's pretty straightforward. They even take pictures of it when they receive it.
>>
>>59733026
patrician
except keycap sets are hard as fuck to complete
>>
Anywhere else one can buy a TADA68? It's sold out on Alie, too retarded too use taobao
>>
>>59733525
Is it possible to order off taobao directly?

I think so, but it's a pain unless you know Chinese.

Your understanding doesn't need to be very extensive, though.

In fact, jewgle translate would work for most encounters.

IIRC you'd also need an Alipay account.

what keyset does the cooler master quick fire TK use?

I've never used a silencer (but will definitely get a couple if the HPA ever passes). Are you supposed to be able to see over that can on the handgun or do you just need to give up being able to aim properly?
>>
Is there any full-size boards that don't have shit build quality?
>>
>>59733645
Its own.
>>
>>59733660
>>59733645
The entire bottom row is non standard. You'd have to buy sets that have those keycaps, so basically forget getting anything cheap
>>
>>59733708
Yes
>>
>>59733798
What brands, if you know any?
>>
>>59733637
>jewgle translate would work for most encounters.
Yeah, this is true. I bought enjoypbt caps from Taobao about six months ago. It's the only thing I've ever bought from them, but it was easy. Google Translate just works, and you can definitely buy shit from Taobao without having to know anything or ask /mkg/ or /csg/ anything. You can even do it if you're as stupid as me.
>>
>>59733804
Plenty depending on your budget. You've got Magicforce, Leopold, Costar, Cooler Master, Ducky, Filco, Unicomp, and Realforce. I'm sure that a few are missing, but that list is just of the top of my head
>>
>>59733913
Unicomp is good build quality for $85, but I wouldn't call it stellar if you're comparing it against all full-size keyboards.

I also have a costar (rosewill), and while the case *feels* great and high-quality, the USB connection occasionally goes out and I'm not the only one with this issue. Don't really know what qualifies as high build quality, but I would say that ought to disqualify it.
>>
>>59733607
European delivery as well. Thanks anon
>>
>>59733948
The newer rosewill keyboards aren't made by costar anymore so maybe thats why. Also whats wrong with Unicomp?
